PISTONS PLAY TOUGH LOSE 112-106 TO CLIPPERS! CADE,IVEY, FONTECHECCIO SCORE 20+! CLIPPERS 13 MORE FT!

[Applause] Welcome to the Piston fanatic I’m your host Dave Dalton and I’m excited to share my passion and perspective of our Detroit Pistons as we go on this Fantastic Voyage together I’ve been a Die Hard piston fan since the days of Dave Bing and Bob laner I’ve also been

The varsity basketball coach of a very successful program in northern Michigan thank you very much for listening Please Subscribe the more subscribers and likes I get the more my podcast gets presented to more people so please do that for me but what a game tonight the Detroit

Pistons we lost 112 to 106 to the Clippers the Clippers have been the best team in the MBA since the 1 of December we go on the road and we are ahead of them we we well we actually we started out 12 and0 12 to2 run they started out

12 to2 they had 12 we had two so it it looked like we were going to get blown out and there playing with four hall of famers on their team and we just looked like we were overmatched but then we just snapped right out of it and we tied

It up 14 to 14 and you know we were head at halftime we were head at going into the fourth quarter and then we hit a drought going into the fourth quarter um so that was tough we made 14 out of our first 18 shots in the fourth quarter and

That kind of was the deciding factor in the game but we still hung in there and hung around and still made it come back and started making some shots down the stretch and yeah we were head uh well we were we caught it was 9694 after assar

Got a dunk and then things went downhill a little bit after that so anyway um big story of the game and again you might get tired of this but the Pistons get no respect from the referee so when we we outplay performed them we we killed them

We killed them in the paint points in the paint were 68 to 34 We outrebounded Them 57 to35 they got zero offensive rebounds against us I’ve never seen that happen and yet they shot 25 of 26 on free throws we shot seven out of seven and we’re in the paint we’re shooting

Seven 68 points we scor in the paint and took 66 shots in the paint and got seven foul shots that is just insane and you know it’s just frustrating against a lack of respect and then they get calls you know Paul George he pushes off and

You know it’s a foul on us and they take off and get f way far back away from the basket and they and Harden gets an n one and somebody goes by him and he gets three free throws and he didn’t have that really good of a game but anyway

Let’s talk about our Pistons I’m excited we have a team we got these new guys who have never even practiced with us and especially um Simona panto he 20 points 10 re nine rebounds in 32 minutes and he never played with us before and he said

He’s excited to be here and you could tell by the way he played and Kade was talking to him all the time and he can do everything you know he he can drive the ball he drove it in and dunked it he passed the ball he you but we we made

Lots of great plays our team is exciting the core four got to play together and I’ll tell you this assar did not have a great game shooting wi he he was three for 10 in the first half and took some funky shots and missed him he in the

First half and so you know but he’s got to play and I he does so many other things he he did a lot of good things tonight and but that was just um crazy game and but here’s the thing we played 11 players tonight so Monty’s got his

Work cut out for him I wish I had more faith in him because we played 11 guys and we don’t even have the guys from the Knicks that are going to be on our team and what you know the one of the best players Quinton Grimes he’s you know his

Knee is um he injured his KN so he was out of the lineup for the Knicks for I think like at least two weeks I’m not sure how long but the quickest he would play would be uh Tuesday against the Lakers but I’m not I wouldn’t hold my

Breath on that but I hope he does so we got a couple days off after this I am going to have a podcast probably tomorrow breaking down the trade deadline and going a little bit more in depth so I really would love if you would listen to that podcast I have some

Insight about into some of the guys that we traded for and I again I you know we all wanted a little bit more value for we wanted a first round pick but I’m going to talk about that tomorrow that you know nobody got first round picks hardly very few first round picks were

Traded and we’re going to talk about how you know we but we got good players we got good players that fit our team that can play defense and shoot Threes And it it’s just really exciting so um I love that Monty he started muscala and I I

Don’t see mcalla getting a lot of minutes for us the rest of the season I know we got excited about him and he played did some good things for us he’s a smart player and he can shoot the three a little bit but he he played 10

Minutes and he was minus nine so that was you know again sometimes PL plus minus isn’t exactly accurate but yeah we led by 13 points at one time in this game we we were had 81 to 76 at halftime and no at the yeah at the end of the

Third quarter and uh we made a had a fast break and made a layup right at the buzzer to put us up 81 to 76 and then like I said we started out bad and shooting and we had a try to fight back but they and then Paul George started

Hitting a shot bunch of shots Paul George had 33 and kawhai had 24 and so they they’re they’re great players but we we did a good job on them like I said we LED most of the game and we look good though I mean it wasn’t just you know

That we just um hung in there with him we we had some great players Ivy and Cade trapped uh Quai in the corner once and he threw a pass out of out of the Trap and AAR comes flying up and takes steals it and goes to the other end and

Dunks it and then right after that uh Kade comes down the court and Alie oops it to assar for a dunk and then like the very next possession we get a fast break opportunity and Kate comes down and he throws a bounce pass to to dur for a

Dunk and it just was really exciting basketball at the end of the game Kade Kate drove right down the middle and threw traffic and did a two-hand dunk yeah it was it was a cool game and if you’re a piston fan you got to be excited and you know we don’t like to

Lose nobody likes to lose we won had won two in a row and but it’s very encouraging I’m not saying that everything’s going to happen I’m going to be really interested to see what happens you know we got those games against the Lakers and the Suns back

Toback on the 13th and 14th and then we got uh eight days off for the All-Star break so we got our rising stars going iy and Duran they they’ve been rising right before our eyes and they’re going to be rising stars and they play get to play

On the same team at the on the all-star weekend so that’s pretty cool but um yeah Ivy threw a lob to Duran for a Duncan that put us up 77 to 67 that was a cool play but again assar he played 28 minutes so I’m I’m proud of Monty you

Know he he he made made like I said he took some shots that were ill advised and he had some turnovers but he were because he tried to dribble too much a little bit and you know I and Duran did that too Duran you know they’re experimenting with things and they’re

Trying to do things and you know they just got to be smart they’ve got to learn from their mistakes but assar and Duran they you know Duran is fourth in the MBA in field goal percentage with 65% of his shots making and then uh assor has been shooting really high

Percentage lately but and um but they were both five for 12 today so that they 10 for 24 they combined and they usually are high percentage Shooters but also during this fourth in the NBA in rebounds per game with 12 rebounds per game so he’s an impressive young man and

Jay Navy had you know he’s had he’s been on fire and his three-point shot has been on fire and he he’s um he’s uh had 12 in a row he had 12 threes in a row and then he finally missed one he made a step back three

That was really cool today too so uh I you know for the last 10 games the Pistons have been like first in the NBA and threes and we were always last in the NBA and so it’s you know exciting you usually got we didn’t shoot the three especially good we did in the

First half but not in the second half today but anyway back to SAR 28 minutes 5 for 12 0 for two on three uh threes four offensive rebounds eight rebounds total he had five assists 10 points and he had some steals but he again he he took those goofy shots but he still

Needs to play and he still does good things mcalla 10 10 minutes 0 for two zero points minus n Duran 35 minutes but he five for 12 only so you know he struggled usually he shoots against such a high percentage 65% for the whole year 18 rebounds so he was the dominant

Rebounder and you know they they have zubac but they don’t have a lot of size but he had one assist two steals one block he had an awesome block he the problem with Duren is he’s not a quick jumper he and he timed it he has to time

It right you know but he can get way up but he did on this block he got way up and put it in the bleachers but um he had 20 he had 10 points and he had three turnovers so and that’s the problem he now he’s really getting

Confident or really liking to dribble the ball up the court it it usually works out he usually gets it over half court but his turnovers come after he like picks it up so Cade was started out slow didn’t hardly shoot I don’t even know if he hardly scored in the first

Quarter he had at least four assists in the first quarter he had six assists in the first half at halftime he I think he had seven points six assists and five rebounds at halftime but he played 35 minutes nine for 18 one for three three on threes three for three from the free

Throw line six rebounds 10 assists one block and only two turnovers and that as much as he handles the ball in those minutes he was tremendous so Ivy got to play 36 minutes minutes so he uh was 10 for 21 and two for six on threes one for

One from the fre throw line four rebounds two assists three turnovers which is too many for the M HC handles of allall but he had scored 23 points but here again so the start of the fourth quarter Cade missed some shots and SAR turned it over and Ivy hardly

Touched the ball in the fourth quarter so I still he just has to get some touches and Kade seemed like he tried to do so much too much but then down the stretch at the end of the game Cade made like five or six baskets in a row just

Took it right to him and scored over right through them and over top of them didn’t get fouled ever or wasn’t called I mean but um he took it to him so uh ponio 32 minutes 188 for 19 like I said three for nine on threes he he’s got a

Good stroke he he’s going to be a good shooter he’s been a 38% shooter last year and this year so he he’s one for one he and he had nine rebounds like I said one assist but he he does a lot of things he’s a smart player he moves

Really well for he’s big he’s pretty big and strong but he can push the ball up the court he passes you know smartly so it’s going to be a lot of fun having him and you know I’m going to talk about that tomorrow about what we’re going to

Do in the future with him um Troy Brown Jr 19 minutes so he came out there and he was ding up and looked really good and I think he hadit his first two threes and then he in the second half unfortunately he shot a airball on a three and then he

Hit the side of the backboard on another three and so that didn’t look so good but um it’s going to be interesting with him so we got all these guys in this trade but we can’t play everybody so we have all we played 11 guys today and

There’s like three guys coming over from the Knicks plus stew so is just going to be impossible for Monty and I hope he doesn’t try to play too many I I was pleased with the minutes distribution overall you know SAR 28 Duran 35 Kade 35

Ivy 36 uh vanto fonio 32 so those are all good um but I’m going to tell you Grimes is a player and he’s going to need a lot of minutes so I think Kade and iy even I I’m goingon to be fine with him getting their minutes cut to 30

30 or 32 when you once you see Grimes playing once he gets rolling so again we’re going to talk about that tomorrow too so um but he played 19 minutes two for five he he just shot threes he made two for two on free throws two rebounds eight points Weissman came in played

Really hard and again you know there’s a lot of haters but 13 minutes only two for four three rebounds and one assist Four Points Shake Milton so he’s he’s gonna be the that man out he I I think he’s got to be and he played good he

He’s been a good player you know in his young career I mean he’s not a great player but he’s been a really good role player really serviceable but he only got to play 12 minutes two for five 0 for one on threes um one steal four point

They brought in a muday and he played hard he didn’t he played only six minutes he didn’t do anything he didn’t get any stats but he played hard and the last game he you know against uh Portland he lit it up he was you know a

Big reason why we won but it’s going to be hard you just can’t play everybody you just you know you can’t try to play a bunch of guys 12 minutes or nine minutes or six minutes or 13 minutes you you you’re better off playing guys um 30

Minutes and then some guys 20 minutes you know and having guys so they can get in the flow whatever but Sasser I you know I want him to play more he he looked over match especially in the first half he had he played 14 minutes

The stats look okay two for four and one for two on threes and two rebounds and four assists really good two turnovers so but he you know playing against some better Defenders he struggled a little bit he sometimes he dribbles too much he just dribbles dribbles dribbles but then

You know against good defenses he you know sometimes has a hard time but I I still want him to play so that’s the bottom bot line we’re in that we got about 30 games left only now and we got to maximize so you we not completely wasted but we really have not taken

Advantage of the first 50 games like we should have the first 52 games so we have to really be smart and can we trust Monte I I’m not too optimistic but again I think he’s catching on a little bit better and getting a little bit better

Idea but we were 40 we shot 44% they shot 45% we were 9 for 30 on threes which isn’t great only 30% so that was part of our downfall besides the free throw discrepancy they were 13 for 39 which isn’t great 33% because I’m sure they’re better than that usually but again the

Free throw thing that was just ridiculous 7 for seven for us 25 for 26 for them like I said we dominated the boards and we dominated the points in the paint and and to not get you that when I was a kid growing up when I was a

Little kid first watching basketball I had no clue and I couldn’t figure out why the why when the referee call the foul sometimes you got uh to shoot free throws and sometimes you didn’t get to shoot free throws and why you shot one free throw or why you shot two free

Throws I figured it out when you were in the paint and you got fouled you got to shoot two shots well that we all know that’s not the rule but that’s what I figure out because you do get fouled more when you take the ball to the

Basket we were taking the ball of the basket and to have that discrepancy that kind of helped decide the game but um I’m just really excited about this team and I hope you can watch my podcast about the trade deadline and about what you know our new assets and going

Forward I will be fascinated to see what happens with Monty and I I think there’s room for you know Troy Brown Jr to play maybe but not for everybody there’s not room and hopefully you know again we start Von Teo I hope he starts against the Lakers so he’s he’s certainly not

Afraid of the moment and so it was a really exciting game really encouraging to be a piston fan this is what I thought was going to happen before the season I’m glad that you know again we can overreact you know we lost I guess you can overreact to that and say oh s

Old Pistons but if you watch the game especially the first three quarters you saw a team that wasn’t afraid and you know I think it’s finally the the core 4 get to play together finally they haven’t played all year and then the last few games they’ve got to play

Together and so that’s really cool and really positive thing to do to see but anyway I’m really appreciative of each and every one of you that have listened again subscribe Please Subscribe and like be the reason that somebody feels cared for and loved and go Pistons

Pistons lead 81-76 going into the 4th! Cade 22/6/10, Ivey 23, Simone Fontecheccio has 20 pts & 9 rebounds in debut! Pistons 7-7 on free throws while Clippers go 25-26 despite the Pistons outscoring them 68-34 in the paint!

  1. So is Monty going to play 13 guys next game once Fournier and Grimes arrive? Playing 11 guys in a close game is silly. No wonder why no one can get any rythm on the team.

  2. Still resorted to Cade forcing it too much in the 4th…..not enough ball movement…too much 1 on 1….

  3. You know you’re a true fan whenever your team loses and it’s disheartening. SMH.

  4. Stop playing Cade at the point. A possession here and there is fine but not the whole game.
As far as the reffing, that's the NBA, they give the benefit to the stars so that the casuals watch more.

  5. This pistons team has lost SOOO many games that they are in, it isn't like they are getting their teeth kicked in. They are consistantly in games, and lose many games in the 4th.

  6. As much as I normally come for Bounty's head this time I won't. Thenrefs gave the clippers this game. 25-7 free throw discrepancy when Cade and Ivey were getting thier ass beat driving to the basket is ridiculous. They even took a clear foul away from Ivey. Overall, this team with no practice and no chemistry almost beat the best team in the league. Cade and Ivey look great together both offensively and defensively, and Duren is looking like something truly special. However, this game was truly revelatory of the fact that if Weaver built like this from the beginning and had Bounty Williams played Cade and Ivey together, this may have been a play in team.

  7. The Clippers coasted for the majority of the game. Afternoon games are always landmines for veteran players especially going into the All Star break. Pistons were only in the game due to the element of surprise and the Clippers lack of energy evidenced by the offensive rebounding advantage. Pistons are still extremely far off from being a bad team due to roster construction. Guys like Simone should not be able to come onto this team and force 19 shots. This takes away from the ball movement the team had established prior to his arrival but more importantly stunts the offensive development of Duren, Cade, Ivey and Thompson

  8. Cade played iso ball in the 4th when he got in the game for 3-4 possession it got the offense out of rhythm.

    That led to the loss.

Offense is more fluid with Ivey as the main ball handler

  9. Troy Weaver had a press conference today. Finally spoke to the media about the state of the team and the thought process behind these recent trades.

  10. New commenter and sub. Maybe Monty watches your vids. I really respect your analysis on the Stons. Go pistons!

  11. Great show coach love the content .
We need to use more shooting options in the 4th, to many iso plays ,
Monty needs to be more flexible .
Ivey will never get credit from Monty it’s disappointing .

  12. Piston's 7-7 from the line – Clippers 25-26. On one play Cade is hammered so hard under the hoop that his shot didn't even hit the rim. Cade stares at the ref – the ref stands there looking like an idiot and doesn't blow the whistle – but one of our guys puts in the rebound. We had 68 points to their 34 points points in the paint! Freaking amazing how the refs can do so much to insure that the "right team" wins – by simply doing nothing when they should be blowing the whistle.

  13. Overall excited for the team and moves
But as soon as monty picks his new favorites he will mess up the line ups again.
That ball has to come out of Cades hands period
