For free terms and conditions apply and Doug 123 103 Victory and welcome to Brooklyn shrer the shooter Spencer didy who don’t even remember Man by that name I AP it is look I mean post trade deadline with the first look at the team as like as it’s

Going to be for the rest of the season assuming they stay healthy we get to get Cameron Johnson and Daron Shar sharp back here eventually but you know starting to round out to the team that we’re gonna see going forward and Dennis shuder in his first 27 minutes was like

I I mean honestly one to one everything we wanted dinwi to be this year and just he either couldn’t or wouldn’t and it’s like unclear which one of those was the bigger Factor the couldn’t or the wouldn’t but regardless with shuder here now he literally did every single thing

That we’ve been hoping that didn’t what he would do attack opposing bigs getting to the Lane run pick and roll pocket passing on drives with Rim running centers running in parallel like all like literally the stuff that didn’t what he did last year and just kind of

Stopped doing this year and shuder I think kind of maybe proved that it might have been D what’s choice and not by Design because they I mean he was honestly I’m being ser and looking very fluid in the moment and I don’t want to like go crazy because I think we have a

Big sample size of who shooter is but in terms of like what the Nets needed and kind of needed to stabilize going forward around cam Thomas and around male Bridges and Ben Simmons and these guys he might be kind of like the perfect complimentary piece which would

Be hilarious because it might have just been an afterthought kind of trade like ultimately when it all said and done but you I mean literally could not have had a better Brooklyn Net’s debut yeah as a byproduct of wanting to move on from Spencer dewitty because of whether it is

Age or time or a person decisions whatever the case may be the Nets end up with a player that they really need listen I don’t even want to make it I want to go as complimentary towards shuder as possible here in saying that like his his natural mentality is is

What the Brooklyn Nets need right there is this world where where Spencer Dy was always being asked to do a bit more of things that isn’t really his true identity as a basketball player capable of doing it saw it last year but then coming into this season maybe for

Whatever reason his own agenda included just did not want to be dialed in on I need to push the pace I need to get into the teeth of the defense I need to find open Shooters and shuder the other compliment I’ll pay him here as we just

Remind everybody that this was a 15 and 12 assists night for shrer six of 13 from the field three of five from Beyond The Arc obviously came in knocked down his first three shots that he took including two from Deep so it was just like everything about him stepping onto

The court was electric tonight but but he has the mentality even defensively and he’s a wafer the Net’s got much lighter as well in these transactions at the deadline he’s bodying up against wenyama in the paint he just seems to have like the tenacity we talk about

This with Dennis Smith junior I think you the Nets have needed that to be a part of their identity and schruder at 30 years old veteran in the league but this has been a part of who he is he’s a guy that that that has a bit of a grit

To him plays at a very high clip at a high pace and that’s something that that’s needed more of behind Ben Simmons because we saw how Ben Simmons impacted coming back off the injury getting this team running up and down the court nobody else pushes the pace like that

Until you seen shuder tonight really easy to do it against a bad team like the Spurs but again you could not have a better sample size of what this guy seems to bring from a my intention when I step on the Court is set up other people first push the tempo second and

Get a couple good looks for myself as well only 13 shots like didn’t go high volume here either that’s a big difference between him and Di Woody too di Woody still always wanted to get his shots when it felt like it was his time to get those looks yeah look big time

Floor razor Off the Bench we’ve talked about when they shipped in with he out they were going to need to get a point guard back simply because there weren’t going to be enough ball handlers on the court on the court that could really like punish the defense they have other

Guys like Dennis Smith Jr Lonnie Walker but those guys really aren’t pure point guards right they have capabilities they do different things obviously but you know they have little bits of that in them but they’re not going to be able to sort of just like common offense down

Again Run High pick and roll be able to get in and like just rim run with some of these guys be able to finish the basket which he’s done pretty well for his career like those are the things that they just kind of needed and again

Like not to not to you know go negative on DIY here but because DIY did do those things in years past he just wasn’t doing it this year and was it was the problem and there was many times and the shot clock stuff they needed to get

Bailed out it just wasn’t there in the way that we kind of expected and if he’s going to be able to come in here play 25 you know 24 25 minutes off the bench be able to run the second unit which it looks like they’re going to be able to

Do they were able to pair him with Cam Thomas it’s an extra small back court but they you know got Claxton out there to be with that group to make sure that there was defense and you’re GNA have DFS to be able to um add some overall

Size as well he’s gonna be able to play with a lot of different combinations with this Nets team and they just really kind of need that again we’re only bringing the DIY up thing di thing up two two reasons one I got traded for him but two it’s like they just needed this

Very specific thing for a lot this year too many times we just saw you know too much just Bridges and cam Thomas being like kind of the only thing team team other teams can just figure that out they kind of had figured that out and dinwoody had been relegated to sort of

Just like a weak side corner three-point shooter at times and that’s just like not good enough so if you’re gonna be able to do those other things like you said push the pace ball distribute already feels like probably claxon’s like favorite teammate right like get got him so involved on multiple just

Lobs and just really Picture Perfect uh perfect lobs even the one that end Ed the quarter where basically right into the basket for right like just the easiest two points and assists you’re going to get like all those things do add up and I think you could kind of

Feel the energy on this team make a little bit of a comeback soft landing spot with the Spurs who were 10 and 43 or whatever like they’re not a good team but that’s fine like sometimes you just need to have an easier matchup to start putting the pieces together to build off

Of and that’s exactly what felt like happened tonight yeah and again because it’s the oneto one when you watch the way shter passes the way he finds players right pushes the pace and also Outlets to cam Thomas on the wing cam Thomas getting more open Easy looks in

This game we talk about him being able to take and make really difficult shots but you want him to find easy ones and you mentioned claxon as well the interior presence of mind to say yeah I’m getting into the teeth but I’m also finding players and putting them in

Really good spots to be successful again it’s just the archetype of the player didn’t witty if he was going at the basket which he wasn’t doing as much he was trying to finish and not always getting there when he was giving lobs to Nicholas Claxton they were going to the

Third row right like it just things did not click with him specifically in this season so really refreshing really could end up being a nice bonus here in terms of a what felt like a soft move the Nets made at the deadline could actually could pay big dividends here coming up

In a second I want to talk about not only we got talk about Ben Simmons and his performance tonight which continues to give more positive returns but what are the expectations for shrewder inside of this team as you get Cam Johnson back on the floor as you get Lonnie Walker

Deadline want Positive Vibes back in for your team before we talk Ben Simmons can I actually maybe you can tell me if you feel like this is out of order for us but I also will say that for whatever jack vaugh is not as a head coach or the

Areas that we think he has issues I gotta tell you when you put Dennis schruder into the rotation you take out Spencer dimwitty it does also make me look back and go right so how often were you asking something of of Spencer diwy that he was either incapable of doing or

Indifferent to doing and how much better does whatever this scheme is the set plays everything looked to be a lot more crisp and a lot more free flowing and a lot more communicated on the offensive end of the Court like I I will be curious to see how this carries forward

For this team when they get into some more difficult matchups and how it reflects on Jack fa and the coaching staff yeah I mean well one thing that like really helped tonight was they just kind of got healthier right like dor Dorian finix Smith back Dennis schroer

In shuder into the mix here they got Lonnie Walker back right so they’re just getting more of the guys that they expected to be able to play that alone is gonna help we’re seeing growth from Jaylen Wilson as well I’m sure we’re going to talk about him sort of like as

The rest of the season goes on I think they’re G to feel like pretty confident playing him they played another 30 minutes here but overall so I think the one I think that overall just General Health helps because these guys are just the better basketball players two if you

Just have a guy who might just be a better Style istic fit and that could be also too because again we’re comparing him to dwy but he is a little different here there’s a like there is some more fluidity with the basket uh with the basketball like there are some other

Pieces to his game that just are different right it’s a little operates a little bit more in the flow of the offense there’s there’s not as much stagnation we saw a little bit of isolating opposing bigs but not tons so I think overall again it’s like hard to tell if

It’s a feature or a bug but I do think just watching it worked stylistically it made a lot more sense and and it really helps I think for shudder too before we get into Ben Simmons like he’s just a really confident basketball player too and with

This group that does help like that like with this group specifically who has guys has a bunch of guys who are like probably all good very good role players on teams not all of them but like a lot of the guys in this team are like mostly

Just like super role players to have a guy who just can fit in with that from a a confidence perspective and like just I’m as good as all of you or I might be better and I can kind of just command this thing like I think that this is a

Group that where that’s really gonna fit pretty well so I think it’s I don’t think this was just a I don’t think this was just a one-off and I’m not sure it was ju I think it’s more of a shrewder thing than it is a team thing and I

Think he was just like oh it’s like oh this kind of guy might have just been the right personality to add too yeah seems to have I was about to say the right kind of mentality when he gets on the court and then also he has playoff experience right he’s been on

Championship caliber teams and done done had deep playoff run so if you think about him relative to male Bridges and young Cam Thomas and these other guys you can step on and say Hey listen don’t worry I I know where I know where I want to get you the ball right and that’s

Also a big part of it here too you’re in the backourt you’re trying to set the table 12 assists on the night that’s always going to make the teammates that’s really going to ingratiate you to teammates if you go oh what what am I doing I’m gonna go ahead and get you

Into really easy looks for yourself and he did that throughout the night Ben Simmons here then this is also if it wasn’t for the debut of Dennis schruder I think we would have come out of the 22 minutes for Ben Simmons feeling as good as we have about him in his return from

Injury six of seven that’s seven attempts from the field got to the line uh one or two there only three rebounds only five assists but gives you the 13-point performance to go with two blocks there as well and three steals again the most aggressive that we’ve seen him there’s been some really big

Moments obviously going back to a couple of the previous games but if we’re if we’re trying to be excited that he looks like he’s getting healthier this was another really good example of player in Ben Simmons who attacked downhill six seven eight times in this game and also

Took little turn away Fade Away jumpers like he was looking to go at the basket looking to get shot attempts for himself that really matters if this team is going to be successful on the back half of this year yeah turn around turn around fade away in the lane which we

Really haven’t that went down so really haven’t seen they went in not side Rim went in had one of his more aggressive takes it was actually ended up being a travel but I thought it was one of the better takes he had taken he um just where he looked like he was confident

Trying to get to the rim to finish over uh a b a Defender that was on his heels and he ended up traveling but I thought like I was like oh that’s a good sign I didn’t really mind the travel he did take extra step but it showed that he

Was trying to make he was trying to finish over a guy in transition that he knew he was bigger than and I think like those kind of things a lot of it’s transition stuff but some of but not all of it and I think that he if he can be

Good I mean seven shots in 22 minutes for him is enough to keep defenses at least a little honest right and like that’s we’re at the point where with him now where we’re not looking for you know we’re not looking for 14 shots a game here but we’re looking

For guys not having knowing Defenders don’t can’t play six feet off of him because they can essentially play a pseudo drop defense against him because he’s never gonna do anything while he just does d Joe stuff into a single Defender and it doesn’t really matter

Right like so if you can’t do that as a defense as a defensive scheme because you he might turn the corner and try to finish at The Rim on you like that’s kind of the next piece that to keep defens is on us and I think we started

To see some of that the turnaround you know Fade Away was just kind of icing on the cake but this was for sure the most confident he looked like getting the basket and I have to say like thank God it was six for seven from the field right because we’ve seen other times

Where he tried to push this this Tempo and like this agenda early and it just didn’t work out it was like over for threes over for fours and then he would just and he would get away from it yeah so it’s so com well not comforting it’s really

Encouraging that the times tonight that he tried to do it it all worked out and I think that is a really good building block for him again nice spot to have it happen San Antonio stinks but they desperately need this other thing to happen because they need his driving

Kick game to work really well too and they just look he’s like six foot 10 like he needs to be able to finish at The Rim also so yeah I think overall really really encouraging game I thought it was probably his best game back in

Terms of like how he looked in from a Comfort standpoint I want to get into the bench a little bit and then talk about rotations going forward I also had a thought about the big picture for these Brooklyn Nets the rest of the season but got to tip the Hat here to

Nicholas claxon as well the other big or five or pseudo five whatever we end up labeling these guys he goes and gives you a double double 20 and 11 from the field 10 of 15 won the tip to start this game by the way against wanyama which is

How I knew that the Nets were going to absolutely dominate when you have a guy in webaba like we don’t need to spend time on him he’s absolutely insane he’s a rookie he has limbs that look like they should be snapping apart if he steps but then he’s also Crossing guys

Over and everything that he can do but Nicholas Claxton as we’ve said now throughout this season even going back to last year a little bit he likes to be he likes to be an irritant like he likes to get underneath dude’s skins and and I think when he comes into a game like

This against the guy that’s going to be the Rookie of the Year he takes a big step back and says okay like we’ll go ahead and we’ll see what this looks like he got in his face a handful of times had I think he actually landed on him

Coming off one of those jams where he kind of settled himself onto wy’s shoulders there before getting down he continues to have a really strong back half of this season and I think again take the Spurs for what they are but Claxton is now building kind of that

Resume that that’s getting back to the place of well why don’t you want to why do you want to avoid trading him why do you want to keep him around this roster because you can see how good he is and schruder actually helps to highlight in

A game like this the spacing the pace of play all those things makes the offensive end of the floor for Claxton look a lot easier and a lot more efficient and effective yeah I thought he was awesome on defense tonight I thought he was um like you know I said

Before that when they run these smaller lineups he’s a guy that they have to play and he and he was able to clean up multiple like situations where the other guys were getting taken advantage of because of their size and he helped off and like one he had a great help block

Um earlier in the game and he was just able to change shots enough at The Rim when if they’re going to run these like Lonnie Walker plus dsj lineups which are really really small right dsj is a good at The Rim Defender but I mean still he’s still a small guard right like

They’re going to need they’re going to need help I thought his help defense was really really good in this game he clearly is still playing with a chip on his shoulder right against kind of everybody it feels like and I’m fine with it like the Nets the Nets need some

Of that right they don’t really have they just don’t really have guys like this and he’s one of the few guys that kind of has I was gonna say negative energy but that sounds bad it’s like a it’s just kind of like an energy where he doesn’t like he wants when he dunks

He wants to let you know he’s going to hang on the rim for an extra second he’s going to get your face he’s gonna doesn’t argue at all but he just wants to let you know if he did something like the Nets are kind walking away he’s not

Helping up opposition he you know he’s like yep you went down that’s your problem like I like I am playing my game right yep yeah he’s again he’s playing with a chip on his shoulder and I like it and the Nets need that kind of guy

Tonight was the first night or not the first night but it was a reminder about why to me at least why he was in the defensive player of the year consideration last year when the team was actually good remember to get doop your team has to be good the Nets aren’t

Going to be good enough for him to be be considered but there was times tonight where it was just another reminder it’s like oh yeah you can see you can just see why he was in there so I don’t know it’s like we’ll talk about roster

Balance here in a second but I think that like it was just at least this nice comforting piece where like these pieces just seem to make a lot more sense together and as Doug said the team is getting healthier but still waiting for cam Johnson Lonnie Walker just six

Minutes tonight waiting on drron Sharp what is this team going to look like going forward and where do some of these bench players fit in not just Dennis Smith Jun but also the young rookie and Jaylen Wilson who had another nice performance for himself we’ll get into

That coming up here in just one second all right before we finish that off going tell you about our friends over at Nissan you’re the kind of driver that likes to push things just a little bit further you ever wonder what a venture could be like like around the

All right so as with Ty B on the 123 103 victory for the Brooklyn Nets at home against the San Antonio Spurs a team that they will see again before the year is over and that matters in a big way because I do want to set the table for a

Strong stance that I took ahead of this game over on social media before we do though the bench unit we say we’re still waiting for Cameron Johnson to come back and get healthy this made I think is 13th game or 12th game that he’s missed this season so there’s obviously some

Concern there let alone the performance on the court but Dennis Smith Jr this is also a nice one when you get schruder Smith Jr and Wilson combining for seven of 11 from Beyond The Arc it’s also the best of all worlds in terms of the shooting good contributions from Dennis

Smith Jr 24 minutes six of nine gave you six rebounds the two assist that the defensive value is there the 14 minutes how do we see this shaking out though Jaylen Wilson still getting 30 and he went three4 two3 from Deep gave you eight minutes again another solid

Performance but what about when camon when cam cam Johnson gets back and he’s healthy right what about how you balance these two rotations we we acknowledged on the last episode getting a little too excited about how many minutes Jaylen Wilson would be slated for do you think

Can he play himself into a position where the coaching staff says well we have to give him like we really do need to give him minutes he’s earned them that has been something that jock vaugh has preached this season at least philosophically if you earn the minutes

Then then you get to be on the court and play in big spots so far he’s done nothing to say that he’s he should be sent back down or be buried on the bench here yeah I mean shooting 47% from three through I mean fewer than fewer than 20

Attempts I mean also one thing the Nets haven’t been all season is fully healthy so it’s almost like he’s not that big of a risk to lose minutes because they just haven’t been healthy and it’s hard to imagine a situation where they’re able to maintain the health I mean one just

Because few teams can just like Get You know guys just get hurt so it’s nice to know that he’s still he’s going to be there I think when everyone is healthy you will see these minutes really tick all the way down and that’s fine like you know Cameron Johnson’s going to play

Over him they have they have Dron sharp there and I know people are going to say well how does Dron sharp affect his minutes well it affects it when you like you’re thinking okay well you’re gonna play Dorian finny Smith at the five now right and like then you can play Jaylen

Wilson at the four or the three well now you put de on sharpen there you can still play DFS but now you kind of shift everybody up um or down or down one sorry up one position so like those things do end up mattering for the current construct like the Nets the Nets

Aren’t just a 24 minutes or excuse me 48 minutes a true Center kind of team if sharp isn’t out but when they sharp is there they kind of do end up being like that with maybe a few maybe like 43 minutes or something like that of true

Center so it all does matter for these guys I think it will be harder to find him minutes but I think it’s also fine I think he’s already proven that he can play at this level I think we’ve kind of know that not sure like what the ceiling

Is but the floor is easily high enough and I think like that’s that alone is good enough for where he is now and the other thing here too that was we said to go back to the top here debut for Dennis schruder guess what he’s gonna play more

Minutes than maybe we initially would have earmarked him for whether that was you know 22 to 24 minutes he played 27 minutes tonight because you see what his impact is here I just you have to anticipate him getting consistently over 25 minutes a night here in certain

Matchups maybe more maybe a little bit less watching what happens with like Dennis Smith Jr you mentioned small back courts does he become a little more selective value because he doesn’t have have the offensive shooting upside right seen them pair small pairings even with Thomas or if it’s going to be with

Schruder you’re always going to have the Brooklyn Nets by the way small back courts like that that that is what they’re going to be the rest of the year unless you really start to push guys down here and play male bridges into into a two spot the other thing that I

Want to touch on there’s two things the quickly since I mentioned Bridges is just again San Antonio Spurs we understand that a game where the Nets win by 20 and bridges plays 33 minutes four of 11 three ass six six rebounds three assists 14 points again we we

Talked about this with him and with Cam Thomas how if these guys aren’t going to give you 25 to 30 points a night each you’re gonna have a hard time winning basketball games this was a nice example of double digits scoring two of them off the bench four double- digit scorers in

The starting lineup as well again I want to see schruder continue this but it makes it easier to think about different versions of winning night in and night out as opposed to if not these two guys Thomas and bridges I don’t know if we can win basketball games that does feel

Different now that you kind of reset the rotations here again not to bring it all the way back to to deny from the beginning but like this is what the reason we said that about those guys was just doing nothing on offense like and so the reason we said we need

They need Bridges and cam to car carry so much of the scoring load is because they had another guy who maybe again not to re litigate this but unsure if he was unwilling or unable to do it but because he wasn’t doing it all then that was the

Problem insert a guy who can pick up some scoring load without making it you know without being an absolute chucker or whatever and now you or that keeps other defenses honest because the assist totals are high too and now you just don’t need that as much right it’s not

Gonna be perfect every game and they’re going to struggle in some of these better matchups for sure but overall adding balance to the offensive attack knowing that you don’t need everything from these dudes will make a difference the only again just last time the only reason we said that about those guys is

Because no one else really stepped up into the fill the void right no one okay I’ll I’ll help in this area it didn’t exist you didn’t have that guy or like you know they did early on like with guys like Lonnie Walker but then he was

Hurt for a while right and so there was there was some other situations that just kind of got away from it Cameron Johnson really hasn’t made the leap into that kind of score like these other guys was just kind of you know a couple different reasons why it wasn’t

Happening among the remaining group but if you can add a guy who can just do it and has kind of you know at this point a proven track record Intruder of being able to do it it it it lessens the load considerably for those guys and if you

Can beat up on a PO and you know one thing the Nets were able to do really well in the beginning of the year and honestly it’s really probably the reason that they had a good record is that they just crushed oppos opposing bench units like they would the the starting units

Really were okay but it was the bench units that just really really made hay against these other teams keeping them in close games and then they were able to you know pull off some W’s but they got away from that through health and just kind of a guys just not being

Around and they were weren’t able to do it as much recently they might be able to get back to that where they’re able to just get in these into these second rotations and just really put a hurting on these teams and then it kind of does lessen how much the the starting lineup

Needs to do back to just to your point right well oh the Nets are not the the most topend talented team but they are very deep the second unit can punish you the second unit can win their minutes right that was the recipe here and it’s almost like it becomes forgotten because

You lose you know you go seven and 20 over 27 games because Den witty is not performing at that level or in that role you kind of start to go I don’t know it’s just the bench unit and it all looks kind of muddled and no one’s

Really taking charge so if they can if if shuder can be the Catalyst of elevating that second unit back to the place that we that it had been early in the year then you start to win some games in the margins right then those teams that are in and around a little

Bit by above 500 but are more topheavy yeah win our bench minutes and all of a sudden pick off a couple more games here which would be really positive obviously for the Brooklyn Nets as they are 21 and 31 after all that excitement and joy this is a 2131 team trying to reset

Itself and and I will just say we’ll we’ll we’ll look back on this at some point much much further down the line for a GM and Shawn marks who has been known to find guys and scrap Heap players Etc Dennis shuder is not a scrap

Heap guy by any sense of any sense of the word but this trade was not on the radar Toronto Raptors Dennis schruder Bates deop like this wasn’t talked about for the Brooklyn Nets at any point along the way if there’s a world where Shawn marks really angled for this player for

How he fit that would be a really nice feather in terms of pivoting at the deadline and finding a way to recalibrate your roster and turn the back end of the season around I’m not going to give him credit before we we can really know for sure but it it he

Has shown the ability to do this in the past so I do want to at least leave that door open of saying maybe he knew maybe he knows exactly what shuder is as most of the NBA does and knew what his value would be to this team well I mean he

Still did the move like move right you have to get credit for doing it you did it he made the move and remember Toronto instantly waved him so like like honestly whether he knew it or not he was still able to get the deal done Toronto waved them because they’re like

Another 1.5 million for games played no thanks you know right and so and that was like literally all it was going to cost them to to basically do it because they still had to eat the eat the salary and so the like I don’t know like maybe it wasn’t

In the grand plan but even when they made the move I I we were able to see ital but better like we saw it we said it right at the time we’re like this makes sense he they need to add another guy like this and I don’t think it would

Be this good but it like it at least made sense conceptually and if the and if the alternative was you know if you’re taking him because again like Toronto’s that you can see why they did it they’re like well you know we won’t hit the 1.5 bonus on di wy’s contract

And we cut him and we don’t have to pay shter next year because we’re moving on we’re moving a different direction we have other guys right but for the Nets like it was easy to exactly see how they would use we knew he was going to come

In and play like I had him for like 25 26 minutes tonight it was very obvious how they would use him uh like coming right out of the gate so I think I mean you have to give him credit for that move especially if the alternative was

Gonna be like w waving him which is like again what the other team did so like I think that that has to be looked nothing short of a huge w there we go man a great debut for Dennis shuder A great win for the Brooklyn Nets trying to get themselves on track

Obviously they will not be back on the floor until Tuesday night and that’ll start a uh home and home there against the Boston Celtics so soak up the Vibes now because we’re going to have some tough games ahead certainly for the Nets but you take the wins whenever you can

The Brooklyn Nets got a good one tonight all right we’re gonna get out of here we’ll STI on it for a few minutes um in YouTube we got a bunch of people on YouTube really appreciate everyone here that jumped in to YouTube live make sure

You go to weot nets.com grabb a C of the free ebook five stories over the course of five days about Brooklyn Net’s history some you know recent stuff some stuff that happened you know back in the day all really cool stuff and best best news all totally free go to weot

Nets.com grab your copy in honor of our new German player Dennis schruder Totten Sean May alte Deeds Say More Than Words unknown oh one unknown one of the alltime great poets we’re back again tomorrow in a moment on YouTube talking more Brooklyn NS basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball Frank footer yes

Basketball yeah oh when the postgame podcast ends the bonus postgame podcast podcast begins talking with you the fans obviously chopping it up after a good win and an excellent debut from Dennis shrer as Doug said sticking around Saturday Night Special we’re not going to stay forever but we obviously

Appreciate everybody being in here and I highlighted a couple of a couple of ones here but I do want to ask you a question Doug as I crunched the numbers for the remainder of the season for the Brooklyn Nets first off you better believe it Claude and marks sweet trust I wouldn’t

Even take off the LOL I believe in him what a guy did did they did the heroes journey and he’s doing it right for us we also had uh Patty come in here with feeling good about shuder taking the point guard role in the last five minutes of the game when Ben can’t

Actually something we didn’t talk about because this will unfold as we go forward it wasn’t Germaine to tonight’s game but yes like the other problem here was closing closing sequences uh p 66 very good point closing game lineups having guys ball handlers on the floor guys that can get their own shot guys

That can knock down free throws that’s the other thing that shuder brings that again pre-trade not just Spencer Dey the roster they did not have this option to go to for late game sequences potentially yeah good stabilizer that’s a good great point I hadn’t really thought about that and that is an

Excellent point uh that he just probably will end up closing games as the point guard right like if they’re worried that Ben can’t shoot free throw so good job uh um you go ahead but good good good looking good looking ahead nothing else to say about that we go ahead and we

Screen we screenshot that one you go over to uh locked on Nets over on Twitter my friend and you’re going to see yours you’ll be tweeted out little shout out to a fan with a great observation the other thing you throw up any other ones you see Doug but the

Other thing that I looked at here was coming into this game and really the back end of the season right because the Nets the net signaled okay we’re not we’re not tearing this whole thing apart we’re not selling everybody off so we want to win basketball games and they’re

The 11th seed in the Eastern Conference they have the fourth easiest strength of schedule remaining over the back end of the season now it’s hard to look at the next two games against Boston and and fully wrap your head around that but I still came back to their win over under

Win total was 37 and a half at the start of the year I think 37 wins 37 wins and beating the Atlanta Hawks the two games they have on the schedule with them they probably still get into that 10th seed and get into the play in tournament when

You go and look at the other schedules for other teams do you think understanding fourth easiest strengths of schedule they’ve got the Toronto Raptors on there three times they’ve got Detroit a couple of times they have some real winnable games can this team including tonight go 17 and 14 the rest

Of the way and find themselves in that playing tournament which is clearly a goal for this franchise this year um I mean probably like if they if they if they maintain relative Health at this point um they should at least push toward it if you’re telling me my 37

Over 37 and a half wins is live like that’s all I kind of want to know about too because I put that thing that thing was so dumpster that that that bet has been that thing is not seen has not seen the light of day for months now and if

Like if we’re starting to crack some sunlight on that thing I will happily start rooting for I mean they need to be really good to probably do it but I mean like you said before the roster built to at least have a high enough floor to

Stay in games they should be able to beat some of these bad teams like they did tonight and if it’s just a matter of just staying mostly healthy again huge if for this team but they could probably even withstand you know once Johnson and sharper coming back and their timeline I

Think is in the next couple games yeah like I think that they can still withstand another injury or two and still probably be maybe okay Bridges would hurt cam Thomas would hurt but outside of that like they have enough Firepower here I think to just like be

Okay and that’s you know that’s saying what it’s saying but that’s I think that’s where we are 11th easiest schedule remaining for Atlanta and then for Chicago if you even look up one more chain of command they have the 12th toughest they’re an interesting one because I actually think that Chicago in

Spite of being you know I’m putting this in quotes better than relative expectation I think you’re going to see them tumble I think they made another poor choice by not getting rid of some of their big Talent here at the deadline I had this one from John frequent I’ll

Tell you another one real quick is that well actually how do they do tonight let me check this real quick cuz they were oh they’re the game’s not over yet because the Sixers looked like they stink and I was wondering how far the Sixers are going to fall now they they

Banked so many wins that like it’s probably not goingon to matter but they’ve looked play in the close out the year last game of the season they’ve looked rough without embiid and um again they banked they banked a ton of wins along the way so it’s probably not going

To be like this bad but I mean they’re as we’re speaking now they lost they lost to Brooklyn obviously they Lo lost to Dallas they lost to Golden State now some of this was without Max but even now they’re fighting for their life against Washington and it just

Hasn’t looked very good and so I do wonder about where they’re gonna end up going they’ll probably they’ll probably be fine I don’t they’re gonna they’re two their last 10 games to your point what’s that they’re two and eight over their last 10 well they they they’ve

Totally stunk with that like the record is I think it was like four and 15 or something it was it was bad now again Maxi was out for a few of these games they play with the total Skeleton Crew but like they’re back tonight and I was

Watching them a little bit before I was watching them a little bit before the Nets game started and I was like yeesh like this like this it’s not Doug nor special not great well the defense is gonna be the defense is gonna be rough and you know that’s like the your point

About Nets being able to like oh you know some players but for the most part you know even some injuries it’s okay you don’t just replace Joel and beid right like when you have one of those guys if they go down then that it dramatically changes is the outlook for

Your season like Alca like any of these high you know any of the high towns yeah look look any team that loses and beat is going to be bad but I’m saying I’m just saying that like you can fall pretty they could fall they could have an interesting path here anyway that’s

All uh the other from John frequent flyer here hey guys hello uh do you see Dennis schrudder be uh becoming or having that Russell Westbrook sixthman role where he can dish out assists impact the offense and get the team style basketball flowing yeah I mean I think that’s essentially what you saw

Him do tonight and I think that’s what he’ll continue to do going forward like this is this is what you needed this like I it’s beating it’s beating the drum here of it’s what Spencer demy could not or would not or was unwilling to do this is what the second unit needs

And and it’s in a different way than the other player that we praise coming off the bench and Dennis Smith Jr he just isn’t that offensive player now he can run hot sometimes with a couple of his shots he can get downhill and attack and he is a facilitator but you need a

Little more on ball easily we didn’t say this in the episode truder is what is he the where do you rank him as far as ball handling and facilitator on this team now two behind being like just a pure point guard I he’s the best per pure

Point guard oh yeah be a best P point guard on the roster now right which is interesting saying that he’ll maybe be coming off the bench this season I mean honestly like I mean that’s did what he was before too right pure point guard right like and when I say point guard I

Mean run pick and roll right right like be able to space the floor enough um be able to tack bigs right like be able to tack off the dribble and get to the rim like do assists like you know be be a lob threat like the things that

Basically a point guard can do like oh he’s the best one on the team now other guys are better players right like but um and but they all do different things yeah terms of Point pure point guard I don’t think it’s even I don’t is there even a discussion is there anyone even

Close I mean who’s the next closest guy no and then the other thing was G say like you know you’re probably right and you’re you know and he’s he’s growing into that role quote unquote but then even facilitation Wise It’s like oh Ben simm is the only guy like okay well

Clearly clearly schruder is now the you know the the number two and I’d argue they’re one in onea just because the different type of player and position that they play where schruder can do that you know possession over possession with consistency whereas Ben Simmons we

Know right it’s going to be a little bit up and down in terms of who he’s paired with on the floor and the defensive matchs and all Simmons is like a wing trans is like a wing transition player he’s like a center who he’s like a center who who’s a a

Transition threat like he’s not you know he’s not a point guard in the in the general sense of the word because again he can’t run pick can roll he can’t space the floor at all and so he’s just not that but I again I’m like mostly team like position lless basketball they

Just play your best Five Guys for the most part but yeah in terms of like that one spec but you do need a mix of guys that do different things right like you do need a guy who can facilitate the offense slow it down take an end of

Possession shot right like like those kind of things if all I have the ball in my hand then I can do anything that we want to do on this possession four seconds left on the shot clock and I have the ball and I could do a couple of

Different things here like those kind of guys they they didn’t really they don’t have many of those guys on on the on the roster Clash Bandicoot my guy man happy to have you in here great job as always guys I know appreciate your effort we know every single time8 days a week

Sometimes nine what do you see as the potential for the rest of the season fully healthy can we squeak into the eighth seed uh well so again like I think having the goal be Go including tonight 17 and 14 get yourself to 37 wins beat Atlanta head tohe head that

Gets you the 10th seed Chicago is interesting to watch because again like I went and looked through their records without holding my feet to the fire they have the 12th most difficult strength of schedule remaining I can see them being a well under 500 team over the remainder

Of the season so when I went and looked back at the back end eight n and 10 I think the Orlando Magic in the eighth seed have the easiest strength of schedule remaining by the way so they should be on in on track to hold on to

That Chicago can fall here I think that I think that eight n and 10 am I saying that right yeah8 n and 10 so Orlando in seventh eight n and 10 can all end up being 36 37 wins like that’s kind of the ballpark that I think these three teams

Are going to live in barring one of them going on some type of insane run maybe Atlanta has that in them but when you look at their schedules I just think it’s going to be a real Clump back there and depending on how bad Chicago runs yeah technically the Nets could do that

I’m not saying that because they go with 22 wins over the back half it’s just that I think all these teams are kind of okay and if the Nets stay pretty healthy and run some good BAS basketball yeah they’ll be in the mix 37 wins could be

Enough yeah I just looking at this real quick yeah I think it’s just going to be it’s going to be a fight you’re right between these 891 or eight just counted eight I just said 891 my goodness um is the weekend No One’s Gonna really check that Saturday night

Nine o’clock been watching basketball all day and I just counted 891 or I don’t even know what I was doing there or 810 810 well I don’t even know what I did I remember know what I was saying now oh it’s GNA be yeah it’s going to be

Between these these nine 10 11 teams and then we’ll kind of see what happens with Toronto I don’t feel like Toronto is like crazy incentivized to go to go nuts here I I I I have the feeling although I gotta check that purle situation because did they did

They trade their first round pick in the yaka purle thing I gotta check that one anyway um they’re getting crushed by Cleveland as we speak so I think it’s gonna be between those three teams I don’t see any of these teams catching the magic necessarily once they really

Dial it in um I don’t I don’t think they can make the eighth seed the that’ss no I think they’ve they I think ninth seed yeah would be my you know I think even that’s going to be tough honestly because it’s I don’t think like there’s

You know the Bulls aren’t some total dog team here like they still have guys like when they when they decided to St Pat it was under the idea that like they’re gonna beat some of those bad teams too with d rozan and kobby white and Kus right like that’s not a bad starting

Vive so I think even that one will be tough for them the Nets to catch I think it’s going to be between them and Atlanta yeah and they do have Toronto by the way three times over the remainder of the Season too so you want to keep

That team away from you you want to help yourself up in the standings they’ll have the head-to-head ability to go ahead and do that so yeah and sorry when we’re throwing all these numbers I was you know 9 10 11 the Nets are 11th Atlanta 10 Chicago nine nine is as high

As I think they can go because to your point I just think Orlando secures that they’re 28 and 24 right now I think that they’re going to be a team that’ll be above 500 at the end of the year I’ll say this because I saw Clash they say my

Mic’s messed up did someone say say am I do I sound all right budy that’s all that matters um all that matters is how I sound to you pal the uh I’ll say this the Nets desperately needed like some positivity like they needed this game bad from a positivity standpoint come

Out out to the trade deadline have some of these guys back play really well blow the doors off the Spurs I just from a fan standpoint because uh Clash I think said it up here like basically just being I can’t find it oh yeah he said some positivity and hope right exactly

That’s what I’m talking about some positivity hope for the back half I was desperate too for them to just be some positivity here because once they decide to stay the course and not blow this thing up or whatever I’m not I you know hate to news flash here

Spoiler alert I’d much rather see them win than right than and and I’ll tell you right now almost 200 people in the Stream right now there’s no way there’s 200 people in the Stream if they lose on a Saturday night to the Spurs that’s just how this works works like just tell

You how the podcast again Works they win more people want to talk about the Nets I’m a fan of that like of course and so I I think from a positivity standpoint it was just a fun game to watch last thing for me I think before we’ll close

Out here on a Saturday night special is exactly that you know we talked a ton about what should they do right should they be getting maximizing value for male Bridges getting back control of their own picks all these things that were important narratives to discuss and examine leading up to the deadline the

Deadline passed they made the moves they did didn’t what he gone schruder is in Royce O’Neal is gone now it’s only about now it’s about the basketball games right now it’s about the basketball games and trying to see if this team can win trying to see if Ben Simmons can

Stay healthy and increase his minute loads a little bit and seeing how these combinations work here including by the way as my lovely little footnote when schrudder when sharp gets back on the court I now love having Ben Simmons shuder Dennis Smith junor like Dennis Smith Junior’s already showed a nice

Connection with Dron sharp as well the the The Bigs Claxton and drron sharp specifically are really going to thrive here with these couple of players now you include Ben Simmons when they end up Crossing up some of their minutes and something that we didn’t get to talk

About maybe we will ahead of Tuesday’s game they still kept Claxton and Simmons on the court together for big chunks of time there were there was chunks of this game where neither one of them was on the floor while they went with some small versions of lineups trying some

Different things out so there’s a lot of combinations that I’m excited about but that’s my focus now is seeing if this team can be above 500 the rest of the way and and carry over some positivity leaving this year making the playoffs and feeling like you’ve got you’ve still

Got something to play for yeah and the Simmons claxon combo is more palatable if Simmons can try to attack the basket more right like like that’s really kind of the whole thing if he’s not gonna attack the basket or if he’s just gonna go stand the dunker spot or something or

Like even worse what he was doing sometimes last game was just standing like weak side corner three I mean is there like a guy you have to guard less that like is a guy you have to guard less when he’s standing weak side corner than Ben Simmons and you know like like

The the helper can tag like whoever’s coming like in instantaneously like it just like those things are such a disaster so if he can be attacking the basket at all and like I said I mean on a permanent basis he definitely did it tonight seven shots in 20 minutes is

Like right pretty much where he needs to be probably even a little bit more that’s fine I think you can live with Claxton on the court a little bit it’s never gonna be perfect um and but like defensively I mean they really got after it defensively at times this game and so

I think like that’s because that’s what you dream on it’s like if you had these two guys defensively you’re going to switch a lot of stuff and that’s going to be problems too and then those guys plus DFS those guys plus DFS in the starting lineup now you’re not so

Worried about Cam’s defense right um and you’re switching you’re switching two through five or every time between M all the way down that’s a problem like that’s a good that should be a good defense um yeah and so maybe that makes up for like what they probably would

Lack on the offensive end no I find it all I find it all really fascinating so that’s win 21 and 31 Boston coming up next two games here starting on Tuesday night so obviously a big challenge ahead for them but we’ll see even Beyond wins or losses can shrewder can this team

Start to find some of that chemistry that makes it fun exciting basketball to watch was exactly what we got tonight all right we’re gonna get out of here much appreciate everyone that came here for you got a ton of people it’s always hard to jump out when we know we have

Lots of people in here but go back and listen to what we talked about Dennis shuder my new thinking about becomeing a Dennis shuder Stan account uh what do we think about this like just kind of just going that’s just that’s just going to

Be my guy I may have done that I think I may have done that tonight on on Twitter I think I may have accidentally turned myself into a stand account because I just could not stop I was just oh I definitely did it I I did I did

Everything but change my to change my Twitter handle like I like basically the rest of it the rest of it all lined up all right we’re gonna get out of here much appreciated everyone that came and stopped by go grab that free ebook weot nets.com we’re rtin D roet he who rests

Grows Rusty another great unknown oh unknowns bringing it tonight we’ll be back again next week talking more Brooklyn that’s basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball yeah

The guys talk Nets vs Spurs takeaways with a focus on one of the trade deadline acquisitions Dennis Schroder. The backcourt veteran brought scoring, facilitation, and speed to the Nets bench unit – all while playing a tenacious style of basketball fans can appreciate.

  1. Dennis Schroeder! Dennis Schroeder! Dennis Schroeder!

That was the chants raining down from the Barclays fans after a fun debut from Dennis….

From the jump Dennis made an impact with his quick dart assist passes that quickened Brooklyn's offensive pacing…

He also found ways to impact the offense with his own buckets….

But the instant chemistry Dennis found with Nic Claxton was the story of the night and they definitely found their rhythm together…

Overall a good team win and I look forward to this team ending the season on a respectable note….

  2. Always been a Schroder fan. I love this trade. I hate the Spurs, Popovich & Wemby. I love Clax intensity. Tonight was great. Keep playing Jalen Wilson.

  3. Schroder is on his 8th team in his career. Too bad he have a history of wearing out his welcome on every team he played for. Definitely just a stop gap fit…definitely not a "culture" guy.

  4. I wouldn't be surprised if Schroder told Spencer that he's going to love playing for the Lakers….because he use to play for them. LMAO

  5. Schroder want to be a starter. He shouldn't be too concerned about that…he will. I predict oft-injured Ben will spent a lot of time on the bench for the rest of the season. (in designer clothes)

  6. Lakers fan here. Nets fans are going to love dennis! he’s got that dog in him. Top tier competitor, elite point of attack defender, Excellent at getting down hill and to the rim, streaky shooter but when he’s on, he doesn’t miss. Great FT shooter, very underrated passer of the ball. Just a great all round player to have. Great pick up for the nets!

  7. Some of the Nets chatter had been about Spencer, Royce, and DFS being too old (all 30 years) and they should traded. They traded Spencer and Royce, before the deadline. They received 30 year old Dennis Schroder and 28 year old Keita Bate-Diop, who will be 29 on 1/23/25. I'm sure DFS feels uncomfortable, knowing that he's the last of the "old guys" that the Nets will focus on moving after the season. That could, possibly, affect his present performance. I wont be surprised to see a drop-off in that. (a la Harden/Dinwiddie). Not many players are going to give 100% effort to a franchise that plan on trading them away.

  8. In sprite of being a Nets fan for many years, I can't help but feel good about how some former Nets players, in Sean Marks reign, faired after leaving them. Since they left, DeAndre Jordan and Bruce Brown have championship rings. Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert are key rotation players for an up and coming Cavaliers franchise. KD is thriving for the Suns, (soon to be joined by Royce O'Neale) James Harden is part of the Pacific division leading Clippers, and Kyrie has found a fit for the 2nd place Southwest division Mavericks. Now, Dinwiddie could, potentially, be a steal for the Lakers. I think the Lakers will be a better team as a result since he bring a lot of the positive intangibles to the team and just as important, he's an iron man.

  9. Usually, franchises build their team around all stars. Since the Nets don't have any, Bridges, Claxton, and maybe CT is close enough, huh?
