[Lewenberg] Barnes on showing frustration last night: “I had 3-4 turnovers in the 1st quarter… and it led to easy fast-break points. Showing emotion & not getting back, it cost us. It’s more me being frustrated with myself & the way I’m playing, not really anything to do with anybody else”

At least it’s himself that he’s frustrated with and not the others. I just want him to make an effort to control that emotion and not let it get into his head.

Channel that frustration off court into your practice and game prep, on court show that you are a leader. Be the 4 we know you can. Rise up over adversity. You have a whole country ready to support a Hustling, Hard Working leader. We lack those at all levels of our country right now

Gotta learn how to play through the frustrations

Last time we beat the spurs it was because of our 3 point shooting and we sucked at that yesterday, driving into the paint wasnt doing us any favours

Glad he cleared it up. Hopefully he runs his ass back to defend from now on and plays with effort

I hope this story ends as soon as possible, otherwise things like this will continue. We are not having a good season, these events are just adding salt to the wound

Love Scottie but he needs to control his emotions a bit better

  7. It’s good that he holds himself accountable. It’s frustrating to see his attitude at times on the court but if he has this level of awareness, he’s more than capable of addressing it and working on it. Not all players can say “my actions negatively effected us”.

  8. waferking

If he needs to learn hard lessons now is the time.
    He’s got this

Making mistakes like this is totally fine for a young NBA player but it’s the learning and bounce back that comes after. We need to start seeing less of this because he’s the All-star. He has to set the example and others will follow.

  10. Hope he gets it together cause some of our own fans are already turning on him and it’s ugly.

  11. Rockin_Zombie

I mean this is obvious, he is the most unselfish “star” in the NBA. He is in his own head a bit much. I am glad he is addressing this head on. He will learn.

  12. Accountability, this is what I want to see 👏👏

  13. Let’s work on that cardio my boy. I’ll promise to get my fat ass back in the gym as well.

  14. Man… it’s almost like… he’s a young player, learning how to deal with adversity, losing and also being looked at as the face and leader of this team…

By Buddha’s light people… REALLY go back and think about what you were like at 22. Do you REALLY think your 22 year old self had it all together and had emotional maturity?

  15. Toronto-MapleLaffs

Yeah well if you wanna be paid $30 million per year you better start learning to handle frustration more maturely.

  16. At least he’s being accountable, now he can learn from this

  17. FriendlyFireHaHa

The “not really anything to do with anyone else” sounds so passive aggressive because it implies there is still something beyond himself that he has issues with. He should have made it less open ended and more certain, and take full responsibility and say “nothing to do with anybody”, that’s what I would want from my leader. Some aren’t cut out for it.

  18. Fantastic_Drink2777

Some play angry from the start, others learn. He will get there.

  19. bloopcity

what wemby does to a mf. i’m scared for the future, how do you handle him?

  20. I swear yall are fucking doomers. Asking a 22 year old to be a leader and the future is helluva task. What he did last night wasnt great but he will grow from it. Some of yall acting like you were more mature then him at his age foh.

  21. amydancepants

Good answer, now follow it up with some action. Nothing wrong with showing emotion, Scottie just needs to learn how to manage them within the game. He clearly gets in his head when he’s constantly complaining and as a result he lets the opponent get easy buckets. Just keep moving, Scottie.

  22. pdappadon

At least he’s self aware & blaming himself. He has to learn how to control his emotions & stop sulking on the court. If he’s gonna be the “franchise” player, he has to be more disciplined & consistent. I think we need an established veteran coach to hold players accountable, & pit defense first. I have serious doubts about Darko

  23. Glad to see him showing some accountability and acknowledging the problem honestly.

  24. an_immature_child

Good to see him address it, even if it was under duress by toronto sports media (and us).
