Lakers but it still was an awesome event an awesome turnout shout out to sacyard too I’ll tell you more about them a little bit later in the show but Kings fall to the Suns 130 to 1225 and we the the the Sacramento Kings are in the thick of growing pains right now now

I’m a lot of people are surprised when they meet me they’re surprised to to realize that I’m 6’4 I’m I’m I’m pretty tall now I did not use that height for any basketball ability there’s a reason why I’m talking about the game and I don’t play the game I suck at basketball

I just think I know the game and and and can blab about it but I am 6’4 and that always surprises some people and I bring that up because I went through a massive growth spurt from my from from sixth grade or rather eighth grade I ended

Junior High at 5’4 Believe It or Not went through a summer of Hell started my freshman year of high school at 5’7 by the end of my freshman year I was almost 6 feet tall from the end of 8th grade to the end of my freshman year

I basically slept in a bathtub in hot water because my legs hurt me so bad those growing pains were the worst and right now I feel like the Sacramento Kings are going through some of the worst of their growing paints it’s not that they’re necessarily playing terrible basketball but just big

Mistakes especially in tonight’s game in the fourth quarter which will lay out whether it’s consistency with how they play growing pains on the defensive end of the floor which are are obvious especially when it comes to three-point defense growing pains with effort on a nightly basis by certain guys growing

Pains with shooting the basketball at times like the Kings have have had nights where they’re they they can’t miss from three-point range and other nights where the entire team cannot seem to hit a shot and they take too many three-pointers right there’s there’s Growing Pains scattered throughout this

Season for the Kings but tonight there were four significant growing pains and unfortunately they all happened towards the end of the game the Kings turned the ball over three times in the fourth quarter ouch that one stings how about the Kings going two of five from the

Free throw line of the fourth quarter including dearon Fox missing two free throws after he uh drew the flagrant one foul against Grayson Allen who shocking Grayson Allen a flagrant foul never would have seen that coming but he he swings and kind of just a reckless swing

Across the side of dearon Fox’s head the Kings I believe had the lead at that time in the fourth quarter he misses both of those free throws those are two points that that Kings lost by five so I guess it didn’t decide the game but had

The Kings made both those free throws I think the circumstances of the game would have played out significantly differently the Kings as a whole tonight 18 of 24 75 % from the free throw line now that percentage is not as bad as we’ve seen it many times this season but

75% still not enough you left six points at the line you lost by five easy math there of course it’s not an A to B comparison but once again free throw shooting is another thing that we can point to especially clutch free throw shooting where Sacramento struggled then

There’s a growing play pain Mistake by Keegan Murray right the Sacramento Kings are only down by one and the Suns call a timeout to advance the ball past half court so they can inbound on their side of the floor actually I’m sorry I think it wasn’t after a timeout I think the

Kings had a foul to give and used it and then Keegan fouls I think it was Devin Booker before the inbound meaning you get free throw free throw and you get possession of the ball back of course Deon Booker hits that free throw that hurts it makes it a two-point lead Suns

Lead instead of a onepoint Suns lead and then the Kings foul Deon Booker again play the foul game Deon Booker Only Hits one free throw meaning the kings are only down three misses the second free throw and the Kings don’t get the rebound the Suns get the offensive

Rebound they foul Deon Booker again he wins this game essentially at the free throw line puts this game Out Of Reach those two M plays right there at the end that Keegan Murray foul on the inbound and the Kings not securing the rebound after Devon Booker missed a rare clutch

Free throw these are just those are winning plays that you have to make you just you just have to make right and and if you don’t make plays like that like you’re you’re going to lose now these are plays believe it or not last season that the Kings especially dearen Fox

Being the clutch player of the year the fourth quarter the Kings made a lot of those plays last season this season there aren’t too many games that I can point to such obvious blatant mistakes like this but the last time the Kings played the Suns they blew a 20-point

Lead in the fourth quarter the Kings had a chance to beat the uh the the the uh Milwaukee Bucks on the road made some mistakes that led uh to that game winner by uh by Damen Lillard so there have been a handful of of incidents in the fourth quarter where the Sacramento

Kings should have tightened up and cleaned things up to secure a victory and instead they made some big mistakes and it’s directly caught them uh cost them losses and now these losses are starting to pile up because while the kings are going through their growing pains and and and taking those bumps in

The road to get to where they want to get to the West isn’t waiting around for him right the West doesn’t care the West doesn’t feel sorry for you the West is once again ridiculously good the Kings benefited from a down Year from the West last season to where they could be a

Third seed now the kings are seven games over 500 but with tonight’s loss they’re down in eighth place eighth place in the old days that was the final playoff spot now that’s the second playin spot now here’s how everything shakes up here’s here’s the good news the kings are only

A game and a half back of fifth place so it’s not like oh God the gap between eight and fifth is massive except the team that’s in fifth place is the Phoenix Suns that you just lost to now here’s the bad news The Ninth Place Lakers are only two

Games behind you the 10th Place Golden State Warriors are only three games behind you this King season is reaching very dangerous territory right because it’s not getting any easier right here come here’s the upcoming schedule for the Sacramento Kings they play tomorrow not only do they play tomorrow they play against the Denver

Nuggets in Denver yeah the same nuggets team that they just beat a couple nights ago the same nuggets team that they have beaten twice this season and both of those games the Nuggets were on the second night of a back-to-back and the Kings had the advantage yeah you best

Believe the Denver Nuggets are probably going to be a little pissed off number one and number two they’re probably looking at this Kings team and licking their chops and I don’t blame them there’s a great chance that the Kings get their butts kicked tomorrow now I

Hope they don’t I hope they resp respond play well and win this game on the second night of a back-to-back but all expectations are and should be that the Nuggets will win tomorrow’s game after the Nuggets doesn’t get better well shortterm gets better you have the San Antonio Spurs at home

Except the Kings just lost to the Detroit Pistons at home they also have lost earlier this season to the Charlotte Hornets at home right this is where these losses are starting to pile up so who knows if the kings are going to beat the Spurs or not they should but

Who knows if they will and then after that the Clippers who have destroyed you this season the Miami Heat that just beat you on the road by double digits the Denver Nuggets again in Denver and then the Minnesota Timberwolves best team in the west or amongst the best team teams in the

West it’s not getting any easier for the Kings it’s not getting any easier at all Sacramento is in dangerous territory here and if they don’t clean things up and minimize these growing pains and get back to the way that they were playing earlier on in the season if they don’t

Firmly establish themselves as a playoff team and show and play like they belong here guys there’s a chance that they could be sitting in the ninth or 10th spot with the threat of maybe even falling out of a playin spot in total by March now we all believe this team is

Better than that I look at this king’s team and I believe that this is a playoff team and hey maybe maybe this will start kind of a sense of urgency a little bit we saw a sense of urgency tonight from how dearon Fox played certainly saw a sense of

Urgency with how Damon sabonis played but will the rest of the team will they catch up will the king’s coaching staff will the front office Anybody Everybody will they catch up and recognize the urgency and the significance of the situation ahead of them we got to talk about that we have

To talk about damont sabonis who once again had a monster triple double tonight his 18th triple double of the season but you’re not going to like the Kings record in games that sabonis has a triple double I’ll explain more in just a second before I get to that though

And kind of a weird platform to stand on on a night where dearon Fox dropped 40 and Malik monk had a a really good night with with 22 points right those two guys were really really good and we’ll get to them in a little bit at least offensively but Dand sabonis once again

An absolute monster tonight 35 points 18 rebounds 12 assists three blocks and one steel it is his third straight triple double this is his or he is the first player in the NBA this season to have three consecutive triple doubles he is also it is also now his 18th triple

Double of the Season which leads Nicola yic by three so he’s taken a firm lead of course he leads the league in double doubles leads the league in rebounding it’s his 50th triple double of his career he’s just the 11th player in NBA history to reach 50 career triple

Doubles he’s also the first player since Larry freaking bird to have a 30 plus Point 15 plus rebound 12 plus assist three plus block game I mean what what more can I say about Damon simonis well the more that I the more that I have to say here is

Concerning in the 18 games this season that damont sabonis has a triple double the Sacramento Kings are Nine and Nine they’re 500 and it gets worse in the last 10 games that damont sabonis has a triple double the kings are three and seven the Kings have lost seven games

GES of the last 10 that damont sabonis has had a triple double now a lot of people are going to take that number and they are going to run with it and use it to fuel their anti- sabonis empty calories sabonis does not impact winning arguments and you know how I feel about

Them right they’re foolish because if you’re actually watching Kings basketball you would see that nobody on this roster is playing harder and giving a damn and consistently making an impact on a nightly basis more than demonto sabonis is nobody it’s not close not dearin not Malik not Keegan

Nobody damont sabonis has been the consistent Force for this Kings team especially lately while the Kings have been sliding damont sabonis has been there knocking on the door triple big plays making impacts influencing winning and the rest of the team hasn’t helped him out as much as they should

Right the reality is sabonis his teammates are letting him down now it’s not every single night and it’s not every single player right different guys on different nights are letting him down like I mentioned tonight dearen Fox had a super big night dearen Fox did not let

Damont sabonis down tonight he and Malik did in one area which I’ll get to but if I’m damont sabonis I’m incredibly frustrated and sabonis actually is the one that we’ve heard from the most during the the the bad stretches this season and he’s the one that has worn

The emotion on his face on his sleeve and said the words that he’s used Express that frustration if I’m damont sabonis I’m looking around going guys we cannot be 500 in the games where I’m putting up these monster numbers like every once in a while if we lose a game

Where I have a 12 13 and 10 triple double okay yes the king should never be losing a game where sabonis puts up 35 18 123 and one and only one turnover by the way as well King should never ever be losing a game with sabonis putting up that

Monster of a stat column if I were to tell you that sabona scored 35 and had that monster triple double dearen Fox had 40 points and flirted with a triple double and Malik monk had 22 points you would have told me yeah the Kings won that basketball game and

Yet tonight they didn’t now let’s talk about dearon fox for a little bit because he had a big bounceback night I think he had a night that maybe the loss changes how you feel about it but I had a lot of Sacramento Kings fans reaching out to me and expressing

To me their concern with the Aaron fox in fact I had multiple uh fans and listeners of the podcast asked me directly about dearen fox and my thoughts on him tonight at the watch party had I done a lock on Kings podcast over after the Oklahoma City Thunder loss I

Would have told you that I was not as down or Doom and Gloom on Fox and and how he was playing in that game compared to some people now it wasn’t just his numbers that were down a little bit some people had an issue kind of with his

Effort and him being laxidasical there are times where I think dearon is coasting and I’ve talked about this before I’ve talked openly about if dearon Fox is hurt it wouldn’t surprise me I know his ankles bothering him I know his shoulders bothering him that being said if he’s cleared to play if

He’s going out there that’s not an excuse to me right you’re expected to be the star you’re expected to be the leader go out and Lead so I’m I’m not really going to even talk about that or use that as an excuse maybe he’s not at 100% he certainly doesn’t look like he’s

At 100% but he he probably should be playing better than he is and and the the the the the injuries or or being banged up and bumped and bruised to me that’s just not a valid excuse for a player of his stature at this position

In the season it’s just not for me not that I’m not trying to take away anything from him and I’m not trying to say that he’s 100% healthy and that he should just fight through the pain right because I’m certainly not going through it but I don’t think do dear would use

That as an excuse the Kings aren’t going to use it as an excuse so why the hell would I but I didn’t I I wasn’t too concerned with dear and I do think he coasts from time to time I also think this king’s team coasts from time to

Time if you listen to my lock on Kings podcast after Monty McNair’s trade deadline press conference one of the things he said in there was he he mentioned like hey like we get to the playoffs and that’s where we think our experience from last season in that playoff series against the Warriors will

Really pick up and really shine and what I took away from that is man this Kings team might just be trying to get there and once they get there then they believe okay that experience will kick in they’ll take off dearon Fox will go to that Superstar level damona sabonis

Is going to play better in the playoffs than he did last year Kevin herder and Harrison Barnes will make more of an impact Keegan Murray is the best isolation defender in the league plus is improved on the offensive end Keegan Murray will be better for a full series

The Kings bench will be better for the full series I understand like that that betting on internal growth for the Sacramento Kings that’s been kind of their whole Foundation coming into this season that being said I don’t want this Kings team to just Coast because here

They are in a situation in the standings they where they cannot afford to Coast but dearen Fox bounced back tonight 40 points nine rebounds six assists three steals but six turnovers of course I mentioned the the clutch free throws that he missed it is his fifth game this season

Where he scored 40 or more points of course he has a boatload of 30 point games on top of that so we know dear can score it’s his first game over 20 points in the last five games since February 3rd he bounced back but speaking to the conversation that we just had about

Damon sabonis he consistently needs to show up as much as sabonis does and he doesn’t and that again there could be un like a ridiculous amount of circumstances for that being banged up having a a baby at home like life happens guys and he’s human too it it sucks to see guys like

Shay gilis Alexander or other stars in this league put up big numbers basically on a nightly basis where Fox will have these stretches where he just struggles to I think he’s figuring some things out in that sense too dearen Fox absolutely has to be better I’m not making excuses

For him but I believe dearen fox is fine the team the team has issues we going to talk about Malik monk in a second going to talk about Keegan Murray in a second also a Target that I thought the Sacramento Kings should be interested in and should be targeting or

Going after during the trade deadline Royce O’Neal Who now plays for the Suns because the Suns traded three second round picks for him he had a big night against the Kings and you’re right at stings I’ll talk about that too in a second today’s episode of the lockon

We all know the Kings had opportunities to improve those holes ultimately Monty McNair decided that the moves that were out there were not the Right Moves for the Sacramento Kings to make but one of the moves that their competitor made in the Phoenix Suns was to send three second round picks that’s

All it took three second round picks to the Brooklyn Nets for Royce O’Neal now did I expect if the kings were to get Royce O’Neal would I expect him to come to Sacramento and suddenly make the Kings title contenders no absolutely not but do I expect Royce O’Neal could come

In and Shore up a playoff rotation absolutely because he’s fit right in to the Phoenix Suns rotation and here he is tonight with a maybe you should have traded for me game n points four rebounds five assists four steals he also hit a clutch three-pointer when the

Suns were making their run to take the lead in the fourth quarter look I’m not going to overreact too much to this because it’s one good game by a role player but this is another example of like boy boy the Kings could have used that tonight right they were missing

Trey lles Tre lles was out with with an illness tonight unfortunately and when the Suns went small the Kings really struggled with that because they didn’t have Trey and unfortunately they’re now going to be without Sasha ven for an even extend more extended period of time he suffered an ankle sprain I believe

It’s a Grade Three which is the worst kind of ankle sprain you can have uh he suffered that during practice so Sasha venkov down for the count for a while so the king’s depth is hurting a little bit but regardless even if they were at full strength I think Royce O’Neal would have

Helped on both ends of the floor but especially on the defensive end again tonight four steals made a big defensive impact also rebound of the basketball which the Kings couldn’t use helped move the basketball five assists hit some big shots too and it a winning player that joins a team

That’s expected to do a lot of winning in the postseason not going to overreact to it and say Monty you’re a fool why don’t you go get Royce O’Neal necessarily but it’s just another another asset that the Kings could have used that one of their competitors went

Out and got and you’re seeing the results of that right away let’s talk about Malik monk really quick really good night tonight right really really good he sabonis and fox were the big three for Sacramento tonight 22 points four rebounds six assists you love to

See that that but what you don’t love to see is five turnovers so that means dearon Fox and deont and Malik monk combined for 11 of Sacramento’s 13 turnovers your two primary ball handlers your two leaders with the basketball turn the ball over 11 times you’re going to struggle to win when you

Do that right and a lot of those turnovers unfortunately were costly turnovers cost costly costly costly especially those three turnovers in the fourth quarter now I go back to the argument I made last segment right damont simonis needs more help well Matt Fox and Malik monk combined for 62

Points they were helping him yeah tonight offensively scoring wise they stepped up but those guys turn the ball over way too much tonight they don’t do it often they don’t do it every single night but here’s an example of they take better care of the basketball the Kings don’t

Waste that monster triple double that zus had the kings are at least 10 and8 not n- n in the 18 games that simonis has a triple double you know who else needs to step up it’s Keegan Murray I’ll be completely honest with you Keegan is not playing good basketball right now

He’s not he’s not making enough of an impact defensively I know he’s statistically the best isolation defender in the league he had some good moments against Devon Booker and and some against Kevin Durant tonight unfortunately gets into foul trouble a little bit too much or he has been

Lately and then offensively Mi freaking a right Keegan Murray in the seven games that he has played in February is averaging six point oh excuse me tonight he had six points went three of nine from the field in the seven games in February he’s averaging just eight

Points he’s shooting only 40% from the field and 21% from the three-point line now he’s shooting 100% from the free throw line the only problem is he’s getting to the line like3 or 6 times a game he’s not getting to the foul line we talked a lot about coming into

This season the Kings need Keegan to step up as an offensive player step step up as another go-to primary score and in some instances in some cases he has but I’m a little bit concerned I’m not going to lie to you I’m a little bit concerned that Keegan has slowly started

To offensively drop off a little bit he’s been kind of up and down all season but he started to drop off a little bit as the kings of to emphasize Harrison and emphasize Kevin and emphasize other guys more Keegan has to find his way to be offensively impactful and then when

He does he has to demand the ball more and the Kings have to do better to get him the basketball because that’s been an issue as well Keegan gets going and with the exception of that near 50-point game that he had earlier this season the Kings aren’t feeding him the rock enough

Growing Pains growing pains for Keegan growing pains for the Kings involving Keegan the West is isn’t waiting how you feeling Kings lose 13125 it’s just another loss and the record is still good but your record is only good or bad marginal or or in relation to your conference that you’re in doesn’t matter

That the East is weaker than the West it sucks if the kings were in the East they’d be in a better position but they’re not they’re in the west it’s hard as hell you just have to deal with nobody feels sorry for you how you feeling about the Kings how you feeling
