Hassan Whiteside has retired.

Not too surprised he didn’t try to make a comeback in the league. Regardless how he acted towards the heat his final 2 years or so, he was a breath of fresh air when he first came into the scene. Enjoy retirement big fella.

  1. Damn he really doesn’t wanna get his 2K stats up anymore

  2. Damn. I’ll never forget his highlight with dragic vs the hornets

I just don’t understand the hate he gets. I know it seems like he just got lazy after getting the 100 million. But, it’s not like anyone actually expected him to do anything with the Heat to begin with. He was out of the league and playing in Lebanon then just chilling at the local YMCA before signing a minimum contract with the Heat. I’ll remember the good times he gave us…bursting on the scene like a revelation. Regardless of how his time ended with the Heat and in the league, He exceeded all expectations. “Nobody doing it with blocks”

  4. What a wasted talent. He had the same problem Bynum had, had the skill but not the drive

Dude could have been a Heat legend if he had a better attitude and work ethic.

Hassan Whiteside ego is so big, he’d rather retire then to stop being lazy. He could contribute big here, if he really wanted to, be that backup Center for Bam, and win that mf championship. Imagine a pre contract Whiteside? Jimmy would probably have 1 or 2 titles rn.

2015 – 2017 Whiteside was better than any year Deandre Ayton

Buzzcut Hassan was special and that Heat team could’ve at least given the Bron Cavs 7 games if not for CB’s injury.

This dude had me fighting and coping about him being a top big in the league, I still have two Whiteside jerseys rotting away in my closet lol. I should’ve known the day he release that corny announcement he was gonna stay with Will Smith’s Miami playing in the background (I was absolutely happy at the time tho cause we stuck it to the Mavs).

He didn’t look bad last year and I think he could’ve been playing for a couple more overseas leagues.

I appreciate Hassan. Brought me a lot of entertainment watching the Heat. He can enjoy his earnings and be relatively healthy.

He couldn’t stand being compared to Ain’ton

Might be a little early but… Yeah, always struck me as a kind of guy who was in it for the money and not basketball. All fair, most of us would be the same.

One of my favourite basketball memories was him dominating Rockets on both ends of the court while their announcers were malding at this seemingly random dude popping off out of nowhere.

Enjoy retirement big fella, your first few seasons with the Heat were awesome and kept me sane as a fan in that era.

  12. He couldn’t stay out of his own way. I always found it frustrating how so many “Heat fans” would always find a way to try and blame Spo for Hassans’ shortcomings – like they do any time things are bad for the team or that particular player – rather than hold the player to account.

Be it on the Heat or elsewhere, he could have had a quality career for a longer time if he had a better attitude. He was an example of a young talent – who eventually found early success and just didn’t know how to handle it.

A heat legend for sure if you were there in the beginning I remember being a freshman just always saying HASSAN WHITESIDE after blocking someone

  14. People going to say he was a wasted talent but he did far better than anyone expected him to. He obviously had his priorities messed up after getting paid. He was hardworking but Whiteside lacked the coachability and other intangibles that make good players great. This dude provided us with lots of highlights and good times on pretty bad Heat teams on and off the court. His videos from that era are still hilarious

I’ll never forget prime Hassan man bro had 4 triple doubles with blocks and one of the bench against the hornets in like 20 mins ,when he wanted to he was such a force man if he don’t get hurt in 2016 and had to start amare who knows man

  16. KayRay1994

If anything, he had a memorable career – he was both the underdog winning story and the unproductive stat padder. Shame he never bought into this system (or any system tbh), he has the skill, talent and physical qualities though had serious ego and maturity problems

Hassan had a solid run as a pro ,
Solid player but this was the dark years for us in free agency. I though Hassan was a key piece but he wasn’t a max contract type player. And I think it didn’t help that dwade and bosh were gone.

Pat Riley picked him over dwade and we could have had a straight up trade for Dwight Howard,

I do wish he was there in the big 3 era

To think he could have played with LeBron if he resigned. I think he was developing in the practice squad during that era if I’m not mistaken.

The whiteisde breakout was a welcome distraction for a team that barely missed the playoffs , and honestly if we don’t lose Bosh we had a lot of potential with him in the lineup

  20. TheKing_OA

I would take PRE-contract Whiteside off the bench right now if I could.

  21. Money-Rip95

My favorite whiteside memory was when he shot a fadeaway 3 last minute on Steph curry game 7 and hoisted the finals trophy screaming “Miami! This is for youu!”
Can’t believe he came back 1-3 in the finals too
    Ahh good times
