Yay or Nay?

Would Atlanta do it? Only things we really would be losing is a 2027 first rounder and Keldon. The rest are ATL’s picks, Zach Collins (for salary reasons, but him off the team is an automatic plus), and Tre Jones which is Trae Young at home.

If we could get a nice shooter like Risacher in the draft and another shooter or bench PG with the Toronto pick, plus Trae, I think that’s a pretty solid off-season.

    No thanks.

It is less about the assets (which I personally, still do think is an overpay – even if others don’t agree, I just think that when push comes to shove Atlanta will realise that Young isn’t actually valued that highly around the league).

It is that we are 1 or 2 years away from needing to make this kind of move, and should be saving our assets for when we are ready and can get someone who truly takes us over the top of not just being a contender, but being a championship favourite. Trae is not that guy, and there could be better guys available over that time period. I would only get him if he comes really cheap: and this (4FRPs and Keldon) isn’t really cheap.

If in 2 years time no one better has become available, and/or we haven’t been able to get a good versatile PG in the draft, then sure. But Trae is not the ideal answer, and so there is no reason to rush into him now and use up half of our draft assets (and in fact, potentially 3 of the best future picks we own)

Put the Toronto Pick and the Chicago Pick and the Charlotte Pick and take KJ, Tre out and 2027 1st too. Oh, I wouldn’t even mind Capela tbh, negative asset for negative asset lmao (capela-collins)

This is basically Keldon, Tre, Murray, cap dump and a draft pick for Trae and the ability to draft Wemby, right?

Gun to your head, you take this deal and feel ok about it. But it feels a little heavy.

Even Tre…not a big fan but he’s a capable 2nd unit guy and it would be nice to let the starters sit without everything going to shit.

This is probably what it actually takes. Atlanta will get 4 1sts from someone for Young. If OG gets 2, Trae gets even more. This would be fine with me (would like to keep Jones if we can) but would want to substitute that 2027 spurs pick with Raptors 2024 or Chicago 2025 tho Atlanta probably says no to those

That said I would do this coz the likelihood of any of those picks turning into Young level players isn’t high. Take perimeter wings with shooting and defense this draft and then in 2025 still have ours and Chicago picks

  5. Friendly-Transition

It’s probably close to fair value. I’d probably try and keep Tre because he’s a great backup and helps our ball movement all 48 minutes

We could take Capela as a salary dump and I’d add the Chicago 1st and hope that works instead of Tre

  6. Significant-Iron-475

I think you can get this done without Tre jones.

Basically we give them all the picks they gave us back and figure out the money.

My money is on them moving both players and completely reloading but they can’t do much of that without getting the picks they gave us back.

I’d do it. Maybe take out our 2027 pick und add the Chicago pick next year or something like that. Player wise, as long as we keep Vassell and Sochan I’m good. Tre is redundant with Trae here, Collins is whatever, Keldon stings a bit but understandable.

Trae is a legit star. You’ll have to pay for that level of player.

  8. Id get rid of the 2027 Spurs first, give them a couple of the hundreds of second rounders instead.

  9. Everybody coming to bat for Tre but I’m a Blake Wesley truther and think that he’ll be a very very solid backup for a long while

This is a FANTASTIC way to become a middling play off team that never gets over the hump and never receives another good draft position until Wemby leaves out of frustration. We don’t get star FA, and this trade would give away pretty much most of our trade bait.

Trae young would be AMAZING, but RIGHT NOW there is no way he fits in our timeline. In 2 or three years, sure.

  11. Thebussinessman

I think it’s fair value. But it takes a lot of courage from Hawks front office to admit they made a mistake and trade their best player in decades.

  12. Subject_Proposal3578

Yeah no way I’m giving 4 ones I can draft me a point guard with those picks or get someone close to Young for much less.

  13. Inner_Emu4716

As someone hesitant to give up assets, I would absolutely do it. Wemby, Trae, Devin, sochan, and potentially 2 top ten picks this year is a really solid foundation to build off of to become a contender soon. A few more trades/drafts/FA pickups and we could become a contending team sooner rather than later.

As for whether Atlanta does this, I’m not sure, but tbh they might. If they’re trading Trae, that means they’re rebuilding and will value picks highly, and I can’t see any team offering any picks more valuable than their own. If they get their own picks back, they have control over how good those picks end up being, and they can be in the running for a top tier prospect in 2025 like cooper flagg or ace bailey. Throw in the fact that Trae seems to have expressed a desire to play in SA, I would assume the hawks would honor that desire if they’re getting a decent return

  14. We’d be assuming our 2027 pick wouldn’t be all that amazing anyway so I think it’d be fine.

  15. NihilisticTaters

Keep Tre. He’s the perfect backup PG. Put in Malaki instead.

  16. Neckrolls4life

Who are the Spurs bidding against? The Lakers? What is the max they can offer for DeJounte? Trae? There’s no need to overpay if there’s no one else in the market.

That being said, I’d take out the Spurs ’27 and sub in the Chicago ’25 Top-10 protected and the Hornets lotto protected picks. It keeps the teams own powder dry for the future.

  17. paxusromanus811

I’d do that for sure. I think the Hawks would push for one more pic though.

  18. Mangoseed8

Replace the 2025 ATL pick with one of our future picks (2029) We should hold on to every 2025 pick.

  19. No

That’s way too much capital to give for this guy.
