This has to be the Celtics year to win it all, was firing Steve Wilks the right move? | THE HERD

So for the last couple of years probably three to four I have been told not trying to be cynical nobody wants a cynical SP Sports talk show host uh that the Boston Celtics this is the next Dynasty well last night uh they won by 50 points uh again they’re number one in

The NBA and point differential in fact the Celtics have the best record in the NBA they’re almost unbeatable at home 26 and three they have made the most threes they have the best rebounding team in the league and they have the number one net rating on offense they don’t do a

Lot of things poorly they’re a dominant team especially in the east in fact all their perceived rivals in the East have clear holes Philadelphia is good I liked them this year but embiid just got hurt and if Joel embiid’s not 100% you’re not beating the Celtics I like Dame de

Milwaukee but they’ve already fired one coach Dame and Giannis doesn’t feel like it’s a perfect fit and they are bad defensively I think think the Knicks are a great story I don’t think they’re a great team I think they’re limited offensively and Tibido can wear teams out with hard practices and long minutes

The Cavs are young their best players Donovan Mitchell they’re not beating the Celtics the Celtics are the only team in this league top five in scoring top five in defense they don’t have much of a bench but nether does Denver if the Celtics do not get with relative ease to

The NBA finals and at least take Denver to six or seven then I am done listening to this is what they’re going to be instead I’ll shift to this is what they are there are no excuses they are 30 and six against the East I’ve heard promises

They’re going to be this Jason Tatum’s the next this they won by 50 last night that’s hard to do in high school almost impossible in college in the NBA it doesn’t make sense they’re number one in rebounds and threes and point differential best home record best record overall they rarely have a

Clunker and Jason Tatum’s a wonderful kid and plays really really hard but man I’m done listening to what they’re going to be and I want to eventually see what they are and this is the season with a weakened Eastern Conference where Dame and Giannis really isn’t working quite

As well as you want and they’re bad def defensively where Joel embiid got hurt where the Knicks did not take a huge swing at the trade deadline the Cavs are too young and nobody else is really going to challenge them this has to be the year that they walk through the East

Couple of sweeps get into the finals and if not win it take Denver 7 there’s no reason they can’t I’d argue Denver’s the only team in the league whose best four players are even close to the Celtics best four four players the 49ers fire defensive coordinator Steve wils after

One season he took a lot of the criticism it didn’t appear uh Kyle Shanahan was overjoyed happy in the second half when he had to burn a timeout because he thought Steve wilss defense was aligned too obviously I think it’s more this um the previous two San Francisco defensive

Coordinators very intense raw raw motivational inspirational Robert Solin now coach of the Jets and Deo Ryan now coach of Houston um Steve wils isn’t that he’s much more stoic San Francisco doesn’t run you read complicated schemes it’s that Seahawks cover three they don’t Blitz exotically they just line

Dudes up we’re better than you we’re going to be aggressive and go after your quarterback so maybe motivation game after game after game Salah Deo Ryan provided that so there’s a couple of things here K Shanahan is stoic so San Francisco’s probably always going to be better served with somebody on the other

Side of the ball also on the staff who’s a bit of a yeller and highly intense if you look at the Rams Shawn McVey huge energy yet his defensive coordinators a Brandon Staley and a Raheem Morris are more chill Dan Campbell in Detroit he comes out swinging press conference

Sidelines yelling at refs he work works very well with Ben Johnson more cerebral Dem o Ryan again player chest out alpha Big energy Bobby slowick academic quiet his offensive coordinator a former PFF guy Steve wils like Shanahan would rather bury his head in a play sheet that’s who he is and the best

Staffs are often a mix remember a couple of years ago when Philadelphia got to a Super Bowl Nick serani is yelling at fans he’s yelling at refs he’s yelling at anybody but Jonathan Ganon and Shane styken very reflective very chill Jim Harbaugh staffs he provides the intensity everybody else is a notch less

Nick Sabin Alabama older defensive coach barking constantly his best coordinators younger more chill Lan kein Steve sarkeesian so Steve wils has gotten a lot of jobs in his career I never thought this was a great fit yeah in that Super Bowl when Shanahan had to burn a timeout you could see he wasn’t

Happy and uh in the biggest games and the biggest moments you can’t make a big mistake and it looked like Shanahan thought Steve wils had with his alignment so they make a move hi everybody it’s me Uncle Colin subscribe here to get the latest from the herd including exclusive behind the scenes

Videos and more wherever you may be however you may be watching thanks again for making us part of your day

The Boston Celtics absolutely dominated the Brooklyn Nets 136-86 and are the third team to win by 50+ points this season. They lead the NBA in many categories, including point differential, made threes, rebounds per game and more. Colin Cowherd explains why this year has to be the Celtics year to win. The San Francisco 49ers fired DC Steve Wilks after their Super Bowl LVIII loss. He only served as the team’s DC for one season but was it the right move despite reaching the Super Bowl? Colin defends the Niners’ decision to let him go.

  1. Firing Steve Wilks was absolutely the right decision. His mistakes cost them games. His mistakes cost them the Super Bowl.

I feel like I’m the only one who noticed that every time they managed to make a play defensively, moving them into second and third and long situations, the defense would ALWAYS back up 10-12 yards off of the receivers, giving them an easy quick pass, and yards after catch, getting them back ahead of the chains. Then they would get easy third and fourth down conversion’s. It was clockwork and predictable. It was infuriating to watch, like “who are you afraid of burning you? Tyreek Hill ain’t on that team anymore”, even though I picked the Chiefs I would have been enraged if I was a 49ers fan. Yes. Steve Wilks needed to go.

  2. Hold on knicks made some moves tho, got bojey and got OG cmon Colin just cause you don't know who these guys are doesn't mean they didn't make important moves

  3. Colin hates the Celtics and Tatum. Luka, Embiid, Lillard none of these guys have done half of what Tatum had done in the postseason but he never says anything bad about them. Ya'll remember when he tried to ship Jordan Poole to Boston? He wouldn't shut up about it. Either it was a clear attempt to sabotage the team or Colin doesn't know sqaut about bball….either way not a good look for Colin.

  4. They made the finals and lost to Steph in a tough 6 game series. Last year they would’ve made the finals if Tatum didn’t sprain his ankle in game 7 of the ECF. And who know against Denver. They have been right there for a while. Boston is going to break through. This is the best team they’ve had since 08 and maybe longer than that.

  5. Colin cant go against his boy Kyle He literally made an excuse based off personality? The defense was literally the ONLY thing that kept then in it to score more points and make that lead even higher.

  6. just listened to the opening of Colin’s show and 100% agree with everything he says about gun reform. he wants it to be fixed, but politicians don’t care.

  7. “Celtics don’t have much of a bench” yea alright tell me you don’t know what you’re talking about without telling me

  8. Lmao hearing Media members that hate the Celtics is hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂. They dont watch games consistently. We done listening to Colin.

  9. I'm a Celtics fan, and Colin isn't wrong. As long as they're healthy, they should win the title. If they lose this season it's time to ask some tough questions. I don't care if they make it to the finals and take Denver to 7 and lose, they have to win it this season.

  10. What a hilarious attempt at rationalizing the decision to fire Wilks after one season. I do love how he conveniently left out that the 49ers defence with Wilks was rated higher than with the previous coaches. Firing someone over a single moment in the championship game, which wasn’t even proven to be a his mistake? Alright…

I’m so over people idolizing Shanahan as some God. I’m a results guy, praise needs to be earned with getting the job done. 2 Super Bowl appearances is impressive, no doubt. But until you finish the job, there’s a cap on that.

  11. Celtics have a solid 3 year championship window at least and with Brad Stevens at the helm, Tatum and Brown about to enter their prime, and solid supporting cast they will likely have more than that. This team IS the next dynasty. at least 2 ships in the next 4 years

  12. Anything to defend the biggest choke artist in nfl history. Old Kyle S. keeps making fall guys everywhere he goes and somehow stays blame free.

  13. I didn't think Wilks was the problem. When you don't take the ball in overtime and your team loses the game. Who's fault is that? Colin is right. They're not a good fit.

  14. That offense in the second half or lack there of is the reason why they lost on Sunday. You're reaching with the Wilks take.

  15. Honestly not a bad big picture take. If healthy, they should cruise to the finals. There’s no one in the east that should really threaten them

  16. Heats almost beat Boston with a depleted roster gtfoh we nobody fear celtics. Let's see if porzinguz stay healthy by play offs. 50point win means nothing. Are they playing to win the regular season or are they planning to win the NBA finals

  17. As a niner fan it's a damn shame nobody on staff got balls enough to hold Shanahan accountable. My name is will not win anything because Shanahan sucks at situational football. He's all about his scheme and if that does not work he can't adjust.
