NBA Execs Sound off on Miami Heat ‘Near-Untouchable’ Trade Asset

How does everyone feel about this? Is he truly untouchable? Will only be traded for a whale?

  1. untouchable in the sense that he hasn’t proven enough to get back a haul so we’d only get teams trying to buy low which wouldn’t be worth anything to us.

  2. I told ya’ll he’s a caron butler prospect. You would never see in any nba teams that the main assistant coach develops a prospect directly. It’s either you train w team or develop through g league. For him, he has both + direct guidance of coaching staff (only specific for him)

You would see him on some games on the side doing other stuff and on warmups that he has different set of warmups. The heat management is very high on jovic

This is the same case when mke got giannis raw, jokic showing his raw potential, bane breaking out memphis and sengun developed in rockets

For everyone who doesn’t want the click bait, it’s Jovic.

You always have to read these things with a bit of skepticism and also a little closer to suss out what’s real and what’s bullshit.

First, just because they’re interviewing an “executive” doesn’t mean it’s someone who is actually at the top of a front office and has any kind of material insight into relevant matters. There are many “executives” in the league responsible for various duties related to the function of a NBA franchise. Sean Deveney could be talking to a finance guy for all we know.

Second, you have to think of the framing of the narrative here. This, for me, is a key quote of the article that is intended to express one thing to generate engagement, but is really ultimately meaningless:

    >“It is not like teams put out a list and say, ‘OK, here’s who is untouchable and here is touchable,’” one Eastern Conference GM said. “That’s not how it works. **But anyone who asked about Jovic, it was a pretty firm no. They have never been looking to move him.** He has been a near-touchable, at least.”

So obviously the writer wants this quote to frame it as if the Heat view Jovic as a long term franchise cornerstone. And maybe that’s true. He certainly has promise and the potential long term fit goes without saying.

But think about the bolded part of the quote a little more. Now, ask yourself: In what context were they asking about Jovic? Because if the conversation was something along the lines of “Hey, would you take this generic role player on an expiring contract for Jovic?” then it becomes obvious that the competent front office response is a “firm no.”

The Heat front office, for whatever their faults, are not stupid. They are not going to trade a 20 year old still on his rookie contract for two more seasons (which under the new CBA has become much more valuable) for just anyone, and it’s more than possible that all these hypothetical conversations that have occurred according to these anonymous “executives” are all about that. But because this reporter wants a story, he has to frame it in that way to make it look exciting.

The reality of the story here is probably much simpler: The Heat value Jovic as a project and will not trade him simply to make a trade. They are willing to be patient on his development and hope that it means he can be a quality starter on a championship team. But, if an all-star were to become available, he would not be “untouchable.”

  5. Our assets are bags of chips according to everyone. So not sure what they are sounding off about.

Sometimes it feels like we are the most polarizing team in the NBA.

    Edit – spelling

Why trade for a whale when you can nurture your own? The time of hunting for whales is a thing of the past. Look at Lebron’s teams when he arrives and the roster flips. Look at James Harden jumping around from team to team trying to create the Avengers. The success rate isn’t consistent. Now look at Golden State and Denver’s approach. Everyone credits Pat with the success of this franchise and he rightly deserves the credit. But what we’ve seen since Lebron’s departure I firmly believe is Spo’s vision. Development.
We’ve got a young core that is getting playoff experience very early on. Everyone gets upset when we don’t make moves to help Jimmy his window is closing. Its a justified reaction. I want Jimmy to win a title with this team so badly. I also want this young core to dominante the league like Denver is. I think both are achievable, and I honestly think we’re on the verge of that tipping point. Bam, Jovic, and JJJ are going to pave the path to glory that Jimmy is currently grinding on.

If we inject tzatziki sauce in his shoulders, then will he become like Giannis with a 3PT shot?!

He’s not untouchable but they’re not gonna trade him for some random ass player.
I remember y’all wanted to trade Duncan for Christian wood 😭

I mean yeah if we can get him to get consistently play like at least 60-70% of the Milwaukee game then he is definitely super important. Now, there are a lot of talented players that have games like this but never get consistently good at all so we have to hope. Having a good 3 pointer is a very good start for his drives

  11. Either he becomes great here or his value inflates and he lands us something great–either way I’m happy.

Ain’t no one scared of this guy gtfoh with the nonsense

  13. binokyo10

He’s perfect next to Bam. He just need to fix his turnover and defensive woes

I just love his play-making. The stuff in transition stands out, of course, but even in the half court, he doesn’t often force shots and will make the right pass even if it isn’t one that leads directly to an assist. Always looking to make that extra pass or get the hockey assist. It doesn’t show up on the stat sheet, but he gets guys good looks.

I thought he was a terrible defender last year and even to start the year this year, but he’s improved so much in that regard. Fouls less and can play much better positionally and straight up. Really impressive stuff from Jove.
