Coby White Balls Out, But Not Enough in Loss vs Cavs
I know it’s easy to crack jokes about the Bulls being competitive given aka’s comments at his press conference post trade deadline and we’ve all made sarcastic comments about it here and there saying hey at least the Bulls have been competitive but that game last night against the Caps was as
Competitive as they come and the reason I found this one more impressive than the games we’ve seen since the trade deadline is that the bulls actually played well against one of the hottest teams in the NBA one of the best defensive teams in the league going into
Last night the Cavs were what 15 and three since the start of the new year they’ve finally been fully healthy and have been absolutely balling and climbing their way up to second in the Eastern Conference but give the Bulls a lot of credit in this game they held
Their own and really aside from a few missteps at the end of the game and as well as some bad calls they had this one for the taking and would have been a big win going into the All-Star break to get a win on the road in Cleveland and
Finding themselves just one game below 500 but even despite the loss there were a lot of things I like seeing from this game and even though I hate using this phrase especially when it’s this deep into the season but a moral Victory if there ever was one this was it some not
So great things about this game as well but either way let’s talk about it now real quick if you’re ever looking for a fantasy app sports betting app or if you like doing player props and pick thems then you guys have to check out Underdog fantasy and they’re great offer that
They’re giving viewers of this channel for those that aren’t familiar with Underdog let me tell you about the app and my personal favorite that I use on the app NBA pick thems with NBA pick thems you can pick higher or lower on most player stats and win money based on
The ones you get right select higher or lower and you can win some money and guys they’re offering viewers this channel an exclusive offer if you use the promo code bull Central you’ll get your first deposit doubled up to $100 who doesn’t want free money it’s really
That easy and it’s also a great way to support the channel as well I’ll leave a link to the site and the code in the description if you’re interested and let me know what picks you guys end up making now I mentioned this on Twitter
As well as on the Community page but the reason I didn’t put out a video on the game last night was because I wanted to spend some time with my wife for Valentine’s Day if the Bulls had one eh maybe it would have been a different
Story and I would have tried to eek out a video before date night but it was good to just have the night off and not focus on basketball so that’s why the video is coming out a little bit late hope you all understand that now like I
Mentioned this was one of the better Bulls losses we have seen on the season and it really boiled down to the bulls having a few miscues at the end of the game now surprisingly in this one the bulls actually started this game out very strong opened up the game on an 80
Run had a very strong showing in the first quarter and we playing great defense kept the Cavs overall scoring down in the first quarter forcing a lot of turnovers to them the Bulls were moving the ball around well getting good shots up and at one point the Bulls led
By as many as 17 in the second quarter but no lead is ever safe in today’s NBA and even by halftime the Cavs were able to whittle that down to just six that said the Bulls never really led up going in the second half really throughout the whole second half the game remained
Close neither team led by more than five points from the fourth quarter on both teams battled you heard players from both teams mentioning it in the post game that this was a playoff type atmosphere environment it really felt that way now now here’s what I take issue with in this game the officiating
Was not good let’s be clear on that and I’m not normally one to complain about officiating but in the second half they really started letting the refs control the game and I’ll be honest it was on both ends the Bulls weren’t getting calls initially when Drummond was
Getting hammered in the paint guys were getting hit on moving screens that weren’t getting called Billy got fed up with all the calls and ended up getting a te himself which is rare and then on the flip side there were some questionable calls down the stretch that went against the Cavs that probably
Shouldn’t have and they kind of felt like makeup calls but honestly the biggest call that I think turned the corner on this game at the very end with less than a minute to go I believe it was about 43 seconds was that call on Alex guso on the inbound play where he
Was guarding Donovan Mitchell in my view that was just two guys battling for positioning on an inbound play trying to get the ball they were being physical but not overtly physical if anything you could argue that Mitchell pushed off on Caruso to get free and it should have
Been an offensive foul we’ll be curious to see what the last two-minute report comes out with on that today but in my view it should have been a no call at that time the game was tied instead the Cavs get a free throw and the ball they
Hit the free throw but then don’t convert on The Possession so instead of it being a tie game the blls are now down one which completely changes their approach on the offensive possession since by the time they got the ball off the Miss they had about 30 seconds in a
Tie game they’re likely going to run as much of the shot clock off to try and get a go-ahead basket and leave the Cavs with as little time as possible to either come back and try a tie it themselves or if the Bulls miss it little time for them to hit a game
Winner instead the Bulls are rushing on The Possession and Kobe white forces a turnover and being a little too quick and a bad pass to vuich I saw a lot of people blaming Vu for that turnover while he probably still should have caught the ball it was a bad pass by
Kobe even Kobe acknowledged after the game that he was being a little too frantic and quick with the pass and wishes he could take it back I actually appreciated that Kobe took accountability and the way he was reading the film on that play showed great awareness and maturity on his part
And also just overall growth and knowing what he’s going to need to go through in terms of learning experiences and end of game moments but anyway with the bulls turning the ball over now the shot clock off the Bulls are forced to foul and the rest is really history from there in
Terms of them being able to come back and just trying to hit a three to tie the game which they almost got by the way I actually like the look that Kobe got it was a tough shot but it was a good look it was the right shot coming
Off a screen C switched and had Evan Moy on Kobe which was great D to make the shot more difficult and he almost had it just a little bit long I had no problems with Kobe taking that shot in fact I was happy Kobe got to take the final shot in
This game I kept saying to myself if they have deardo Rosen taking that final three when Kobe has been very hot from downtown I’m going to lose it so yeah I left this game feeling good obviously I wish the Bulls would have won it but
This is the kind of game that can give them some confidence and momentum going into the allstar break getting some much needed rest which they’re all going to get because not a single bull will be making an appearance in any of the All-Star festivities this weekend I’ll
Take it also can’t say enough about Kobe in this game because he was phenomenal amazing handles was hitting really difficult in contested shots 32 points on 17 shots 11 for 17 from the floor 5 for eight from three seven rebounds four assist I need to do a video on Kobe and
Why he really is a top candidate for the most improved player of the year award solid game from DeMar as well 24 points nine for 16 six assists no turnovers you obviously saw Billy Donovan going with the Twin Towers in this game starting Drummond and vich together which was the
Right call with the big Cavs lineup and having Drummond in there to clean up the glass which was key 10 points and 15 rebounds for Drummond vuvi though yeah rough game four for 16 from the floor one for five from three just nine points had a really rough time operating in the
Paint against Moy and Jared Allen and was uh kind of embarrassing they were just letting vuvi shoot It Wide Open from three didn’t even care to guard him and vvi was clanking it every time he did have that one3 that he made and he was actually somewhat contested on that
One three but yeah after vuvi had a solid last five G games or so not this night and it really cost the Bulls as they needed his interior scoring with the bulls getting outworked with points in the paint being 52-28 against the Cavs good to see Caruso back after taking the last game
Off he was great Off the Bench so was Tory Craig bull shot the ball decently well but what was concerning was the fact that they had 18 assists as a team compared to the Cavs 31 Bulls also turned the ball over a little too frequently for my liking in the second
Half which enabled the Cavs to keep things close and eventually take the lead and ultimately win the game but anyway a good Valiant competitive effort Bulls get a onewe break off before they take on the League’s best team when they come back against the Boston Celtics at
Home at the United Center I’ll have content out here and there throughout the week when the Bulls are off let me know some of the content you guys would like to see during the break let me know about that on the comments as always be

Vouch cost us the game simple
Vooch pissed me off so bad in this game I was screaming at my tv. This guy that’s shooting 27% on 3’s is shooting 3’s in clutch and missing, not to mention missed a ton of easy around the baskets shots. Inconsistent vet. Billy not challenging that call on Caruso at the end also was terrible from a coach. And Demar doing ISO on 3-4 possessions at the end that ended up clunking. All cringe moments. And to be honest I didn’t even like the last possession how slow they were giving Coby the ball. I felt like Vooch didn’t set a good screen.
Personally, I only believe in wins and losses in basketball. This was a loss full stop. If the Bulls front office were serious about this team and made the relevant changes and trades, we shouldn't being talking about moral wins. Moral wins will not move the Bulls up the league standings. What this loss shows is that this team needs changes that AK and the rest of the front office are not willing to put in effect. Last night's loss is just another instance of what the Bulls will continue experiencing until the end of the season. Big wins and heartbreaking losses.
As a fan who doesn't live in Chicago, I normally can only follow the games when the Bulls are on national TV (which is rare these days), through the Google box score and live tweets, and/or watching recap videos like this afterwards. So for us fans like myself who aren't able to watch every night (is that actually a blessing in disguise?? lol) I want to thank you Jamaal for doing all of these videos even during a tough season. Just know that it's greatly appreciated!
It's nice that the Bulls were on national TV last night for a change. Despite the loss it was a good game.
Here's my takeaways from last night:
-Coby should 100% get MIP this season. He was awesome last night, just like he has been all season. We'd probably be where the Nets or Raptors are in the standings without him, maybe worse.
-Demar had a good game overall. It seems obvious AK wants to keep him around. If he gets extended, I hope Demar would be willing to take a little bit less to help build a better team.
-AC was terrific on defense as usual and Craig (at least in the first half) was very good as well. Haven't really heard anybody mention how he played last night. He was a big factor in building the first half lead with his shooting and defense.
-Drummond was by far the better of our 2 bigs last night. I think Billy waited too long to bring him in during the 4th quarter, seemingly waiting to match up with Cleveland bringing Mobley back in. Drummond's rebounding and overall presence around the basket was huge last night.
-Ayo had a decent game playing hard and making some 3s. Love the way he's played the last month or so.
-Vooch and JC….I don't know where to start. In Vooch's defense, he's been playing well the last handful of games but was not good last night. His passing was decent but that was about it. Shooting and defense was atrocious. Would've also liked to see him get a couple more rebounds, but it was against a big team so I guess the 8 or 9 rebounds he got is fine, especially since Drummond dominated the boards. And even though he only played like 5 minutes, what in the world was Carter doing???? On a fastbreak where nobody was within a mile of him, he pulls up for 3 with no teammates in the vicinity to get the rebound in case he missed. And not only did he miss, but he air balled badly. And then a couple minutes later on another break and only a couple seconds into the shot clock, he launched another bad 3 and barely hit the rim. He wasn't good at all last night, I don't blame Billy for only putting him in for a few minutes.
-Terry and Phillips are both too raw to be getting any significant minutes in the NBA right now. I'd like to see Sanogo get some spot minutes here and there to help add size in the lineup when Drummond or Vooch need a breather.
-Last but not least, we're finally at the All-star break. I think the Bulls need the break more than any other team in the league as Coby and Demar lead the league in minutes played. They earned the rest. Hopefully shortly after the All Star break PWill comes back and is able to help out. Coby and Ayo are playing great, it's his turn to follow suit. Maybe we pick up Joe Harris or Gallinari on the buyout market to bolster our shooting when we hit a slump.
Anyways, regardless of what type of season we're having I'll always be a Bulls fan. Who knows, maybe they find a way to give us some hope the rest of this season and beyond. Let's go Bulls!
3 things that stood out to me in this game:
1 the play you mentioned with mitchell and caruso… 100% absolutely shoulda been an offensive foul on mitchell… dunno why billy didn t challenge especially at that point in the game
2 it shouldn t have been a double technical on that play where white and niang were jawing at each other… but, that being said, niang shoulda gotten another T cause he wouldn t stop chirping at the refs after that play. HE SHOULDA BEEN T'ed UP
3 the play in first half when caruso dove to steal the ball and carter decided to repay AC s hustle with an AIRBALL smfh!! it broke my heart, and, he had SO many other options in that moment… drive to the basket please!! which woulda resulted in an open lay up, and/or, a foul, it woulda coulda shoulda been the difference in the bulls winning that game or at least taking it to overtime
i liked what i saw from demar: he had a couple of moments where his defense was amazing, he had some heads up plays where he was making the right decisions in sharing the ball.. all in all he played a really good game on both sides of the floor
sorry for rambling lol, i just had to leave a comment regarding #3 that moment really got me going…
GO BULLS!!
I’ve about had it with Vooch, man. He’s so frustrating. We blew a 17 pt lead also, not all on Vooch but damn. Coby did amazing, Ayo was solid & demar was good. W Drummond too.
If this was a moral victory there’s also moral losses, the moral loss is vooch is not that guy, and that showed last night.
That shot at 5:06 from Coby was sooo tough
I'm sorry, but I gotta keep it real:
Vuc shouldn't be getting more minutes than Drummond. Point blank period. For anything, Drummond needs to start over this man. His three point shooting attempts are herendous. His interior defense is equivalent to a free spinning turnstile. In regards to how much the Bulls has given up for him, the man sucks.
No, I disagree that pass to Vuc from Colby was a bad pass. It probably wasn't the best pass, but it was definitely catchable, but Vuc's hands are made of butter or something. It's ridiculous. He was one of the biggest reasons we lost that game. He and Donavon's subpar @$$ coaching, from taking Drummond out of the game in pivotal moments to his lack of challenging questionable calls when it's obvious to do so. He sucks tenfold!
Lastly, the NBA refs, they pic and choose who they want to swallow their whistles for and what team they want to call in favor of. They suck the worst of all!
That's my keeping it real take.
There is no such thing as a moral victory in my mind
What’s counts is the final score
We led by more than 15 at one point
And led through most of the game
But we made mistakes that cost us the game
Unacceptable in my eyes
Could we get a what if the Bulls rebuilt around Jimmy Butler would love to see your opinion on what you think would happen
This will only get worse, have you guys seen the schedule they have ahead? ☠️
Seeing Javon Carter chuck up shots this game was killing me 😭
You should win those kind of games. Almost 3 quarters in front. That's why we are playing team.
Are we not going to discuss Javon Carter shooting an absolute brick wide open from 3 when he could’ve got an easy 2? 🤦🏽♂️
Even those last games where Vuc is putting up numbers his defense is just so brutal. I really can’t stand his “finesse” style that seems to only be getting more predominant. The tear drops, the tip rebounds, and the “wasn’t me” hands back defense. Brutal trade/resigning
Yes I definitely see an improvement in coaching and player development, however I feel like Billy strongly relying on his vets to close out the game which he should, but I think he could've have Ayo and a more athletic lineup to finish the game, Other then Vooch and DeMa defensive liabilities.
Billy D should have challenged that Caruso "foul". They had both challenges. And it was deemed an incorrect call by the 2-minute reporting.
I wonder why always the refs are against the Bulls. I mean almost every game we play the refs are against us. Quite honestly if not bec of those calls we are top 5 in the east.
we refuse to keep big leads
A video on Coby and Ayo would be nice and the impact of AC and Demar on winning and ver leadership.
