Allstar himself but first Joey how the hell are you buddy I’m pretty good I’m very excited about NBA I God it’s the worst um because I’ve always wanted to tell a robot to make a video um make a basketball game I’m watching look like NBA Live 95 on the PlayStation one which
Is what happens when they tell it to look like a Spider-Man movie in that demo uh the guys look insane and bad it’s crazy that we’re selling that so hard it’s very cool the sports business environment we’re in where all of the ideas are very good and things people
Are definitely asking for it’s cool uh like I said we’re going to get into some skills challenge talk coming up as uh Joey much like me is a skills challenge acolyte the best part it’s goodba Saturday everyone else is it should be longer and like uh I I look
I’m just into obstacle courses in general tend to very much agree there and I do think our wish for a longer more prolonged skills challenge might actually come through with the format they have for this year we’re going to run through the format we’re going to run through our favorites we’re going to
Run through Scotty barnes’s involvement but we should start Joey with Scotty Barnes himself sure he’s an All-Star uh an injury replacement but an Allstar in the he’s also in the Eastern Conference but again an an All-Star nonetheless and you know all not all allstars are
Created equal I I did want to take a second here you are a I would say a a sort of historian of NBA Allstar weekends over the years you watch a lot of basketball you know a lot of what has happened you can recall things that have
Taken place no one appreciates the John Collins airplane dunk quite like you greatest moment in television history I have never I’ve never laughed harder than watching John Collins do the airplane dunk uh in my life um pretty fantastic um but before we before we kind of dig into the skills challenge
Stuff I do want to talk about where Scotty kind of sure falls on the Continuum of All Stars well I want to offend Raptor fans but fine they’re offended very easily that’s that’s on them it’s cool we have an adversarial relationship and that’s the way this
Works um but so all stars again not all created equal some are Devin Harris some are Shaquille O’Neal every other allar is kind ja a whack allar actually like really I mean as a guy great I mean Tracy McGrady threw it off the backboard to himself in an
All-Star Game he’s the first guy I remember doing that um because I rank it based on fun right and Shaq is not a fun Shaq’s game was not fun in an All-Star game right sure he was more Antics than game I suppose right Shaq is a Shaq is
Fun around the All-Star Game and Shaq’s a fun guy but his game is still backing it down and very slowly and then drop stepping for a dunk I mean he was kind of fun but I don’t know I think your most your most fun Allstars ever are
Like guys who are G to try and dunk all the time right it’s like Russell Westbrook was a really fun Allstar um I would say T-Mac of course Vince Carter sorry Raptors fans um that’s okay the cool Allstar Vince was while he was a raptor you can never take
That away from us um I mean Steph is a fun Allstar because he’ll just start shooting from half court um uh I would say one of the worst modern All Stars is uh James Harden cuz he’s hung over every single time um he does not try in the game where no one is
Playing defense and like foul grifting doesn’t really work when no one is playing defense right right uh I would say on the Continuum of fun All Star Scotty is somewhere in the middle yeah what makes you say that because I think there are Arguments for and against him as a cool and good
Allstar like he’s not really gonna he’s not going to do the three-point shooting exploits or anything like that a lot of his has come from defense this year which is obviously not you know exciting in an All-Star game but although you are man we had he does he does throw crazy
Passes that’s true he also dunks hard he can dunk hard but he’s not famous enough where guys are gonna be trying to throw him Alle oops constantly right and you just can’t be like a guy who’s gonna play eight minutes in an All-Star game uh and be a fun Allstar you know that’s
That’s fair so let’s go through Raptor’s all stars of Y and compare Scotty Barnes as far as just All-Star quality obviously like uh I guess most recently was Pascal seaka would you say Scotty cooler or less cool All-Star than Pascal his game fits better I feel like
Um but he doesn’t have a he doesn’t have the spicy P nickname I would say they’re about the same they’re about the same level of fun allar okay uh previous to that kawi Leonard kawh Leonard is a terrible Allstar has heon MVP of an allstar game
Before I did he he might have I don’t think so though um he might have he did in 2020 he won won allstar MVP weird I don’t remember that uh so I mean I guess he’s got above Scotty simply because he won the MVP of the All-Star game he wasn’t even the the
Coolest he wasn’t a raptor during that season he was that was his first year with the Clippers that was the year where Kyle Larry of course saved the All-Star game taking charges on him it was cool okay so where does Kyle Larry fall then compared to Scotty if you’re
Trying to take all charges in the All-Star Game you’re at the bottom a charge is the least fun thing you can do in the NBA uh because inevitably you’re taking away a dunk and if you’re trying to do it in the All-Star game it’s embarrassing no no absolutely not and I
Love Kyle Lowry I want to make that very clear this Kyle Lowry allstar game is one of the best things that’s happened to Toronto Raptors fans since the NBA championship in 2019 I mean it’s not like if you’re gonna piss anybody off it’s with this insane take it was cool
He made the All-Star Game competitive and fun he made people try he pointed he did finger guns at Kawai after taking a charge on him trying to take charges is not gonna make people try this is this is this is copium you are this is insane
If an Indiana Pacer was doing this you would have lost your mind you would so mad certainly would have it was kemell Walker doing it of course this is bad this is bad for the allstar game but Kyle Lowry doing it he’s the reason I still think charges are cool um but
Anyway that that All-Star Game he’s also dunked in an All-Star game before Kyle has which I think is helpful small guy dunking is cool yeah um but I’m guessing you think below Scotty as far as cool allst stars go I mean it’s I think he’s above Scotty
Even though I hated his behavior just because of how memorable it is you know okay okay you know what I’m saying like um I just don’t expect Scotty this year to do it anything all that memorable in the All-Star Game and I could be wrong I
Love Scotty I hope he throws some cool passes be same I hope he does that thing what he did in college where he goes behind his back to dunk it um uh I forgot about Fred Van vet also a former allar terrible bad allar sorry
Fred not a good allar Demar D rozan good Allstar loves to dunk it lot of big dunks um yeah dear’s just a cool guy anyway he’s he’s up there he’s he’s your leader so far interesting okay uh we got Chris Bosch next I didn’t even like him
As an allar when I was young Raptors fan I will say he’s above Kyle okay because he was the first guy I remember making funny videos to try and make the allar sure sure the car salesman the car salesman commercial good stuff yeah yeah that’s fun All-Star Behavior because look Paul
Milsap maybe one of the worst Allstars ever from a fun standpoint but before the game he gave a bunch of interviews declaring he was going to be street ball Paul and people were G to be very surprised at how fun his game was and then he just played normally that’s
Hilarious that makes him a like a top 20 alltime funny like all time Allstar like that is amazing it’s the greatest I think about street ball Paul this time of year every time and that’s why you’re on this podcast you’re bars gave an interview saying he was gonna be street
Ball Scotty he might be the top of this list uh just a couple more previous Raptors allar we mentioned Vince Carter is Vince Carter like a like a like an S tier Allstar historically he’s pretty am yeah and then the other Raptors Allstar to ended on a dud Antonio Davis better or worse
Than Scotty as an All-Star way worse but he’s might be at the bottom and anonio Davis or Jamal mcore is the real question from that same year I mean I Antonio Davis is worse than Jamal M mcore because Jamal mcore is such a weird and bad Allstar it like Rises him up you
Know what I’m saying like yeah yeah I get that does it make sense that Antonio Davis made an All-Star team it never has made sense that Jamal mcore made one yeah yeah that that I think is he averaged like 13 and nine when he made that allstar game crazy stuff and was on

Pools really good uh like um I don’t know like some kind of monkey bar thing where you dunk off the monkey bars you know some something like that um even something where like you have to score your bucket at the end but it’s like against a mascot of some other team dunk
On a guy yeah yeah yeah yeah like Rudy goar just out there to get dunked on or just like a coach with the big foam things that they you know what I mean like um for sure also more passes M uh there should be way more passes in it I
Want to see you got to throw an outlet you got to throw a bounce pass you got to throw a behind the back uh pass you know like because that’s always what messes people up absolutely the thing that gets me with the passes Joey is they they always
Give the cop out of well if you miss three times you move on take that away that’s got to go just like make someone sit there for 20 minutes if they have to trying to feed a pass through a whole 10 feet away that to me also think there
Should be levels to it right like I want to see instead of what it’s very weird that we’re like okay um Paulo bang Caro and Anthony Edwards are the same thing in this skills challenge right Trey young and Victor wanyama same same you know like I want to see ones where it’s
Like we’ve done all big guy ones before and it used to be all guards but I want to see an even deeper level to it right where it’s like backup centers it’s like dayron sharp out there it’s like doop wreath versus Kevon Looney you know what I mean in the skills
Challenge well they have changed the format for this year Joey and I do think some of our wishes have been granted I see nothing in the PDF from the NBA regarding alligator pools or monkey bars however there are some changes to the format and so uh are you familiar with
The changes you know the format is going to be okay I know they’re teams again which I’m never into when they do teams in these things so yes except for shooting stars shooting stars was a good team challenge bring back shooting stars yes also fully endorsed uh so okay three
Teams of three this year uh you have Team Pacers Tyrese halberton Benedict Maan a for mentioned in the ad read and Miles Turner those three guys will be going at it for the Pacers you have team top picks just guys taking first overall very stupid paloo Anthony Edwards Victor
Wanyama cool team but stupid the way they got there yeah and then just team All Stars which is Scotty Barnes Tyrese Maxi and Trey young uh team All-Star injury Replacements almost if not for Maxi um so those are the teams that’ll be competing let me go through the
Format it’s a three round format that features a team relay a team passing round and a team shooting round and I think there’s some pretty interesting stuff in all of here so the relay uh I’ll just read straight from the NBA this might be dry podcasting feel free
To stop me anytime Joey if you have thoughts that you want to interject with teams compete one at a time all players from each team participate in a timed relay each player must complete the course it begins with a 35 foot Outlet pass at a moving Target from the
Baseline complete the pass to move on or Max three valid attempts that’s bad more it should be at least five agreed you can just Spam the quick three passes guess valid attemps stringent then you get dribble down Court through three moving pylons oh they’re moving yeah all right all
Right I you I wish they would make them do like a behind the back dribble behind one of them around one of them you know like stipulate you have to do a move around the guy you know that would be cool that would be sweet we might get
There we’ll see there’s lots of text in these rules uh the next is a short shot in the lane Max three valid attempts move on after make or three attempts left corner three-point shot Max three valid attempts move on after remake uh and in this case they do have automated
Defender as a thing that’s involved here so all right like some sort of NBAA nbii brought to life to defend you in the corner Batman version of Victor wanyama I don’t know um but that is a thing to to note here then dribble to the opposite goal make a basket dunk layup
Jump shot Etc so open to your interpretation I guess that’s cool I suppose better than just a layup uh then next player starts when either’s uh rebounds the previous player shot or receives a pass from the previous player after the ma basket and then the first
Team sets the time to beat and then everyone else is competing against that time the winning team earns 100 challenge points which is I don’t know there’s a currency involved here all right yeah the currency is then dispersed by King cake baby or something uh I mean in a dream world uh teams
Choose one player to repeat the course for a tiebreaker uh the team with the fastest time in the tiebreaker round wins there so the tier will be let’s see if we can guess it’ll be uh Tyrese halberton versus Tyrese Maxie versus Anthony Edwards probably yeah that sounds probably right although Scotty is
A very accurate passer maybe they want not that accurate passing in there for I think they but I think if you’re these guys you’re you’re just like you view foot speed right yeah that’s fair Maxi is very fast yeah uh round two is team passing teams compete one at a time each
Team has 30 seconds to a mass points all three players participate together each team must make at least one pass attempt at each Target indiv indiv individual players cannot make consecutive passes at the same Target this sounds confusing for the players involved All Passes must originate from the designated areas
Near the Baseline and must be made at the Target immediately in front of the designated area so you get The oversiz Passing targets is a 35 foot Outlet pass forward and back moving Target a 20 foot bounce pass at a side to side moving Target and a 25 foot chest pass forward
And back moving Target each worth round is just G to be guys missing passes it’s going to be depressing but there’s no there’s no cop out here though you got to pass until you get as many points as possible so that’s good uh the team with
The most total points you get two points for the 35 up be really longest set up there’s gonna be so many commercial breaks in this I’m I’m so excited for how mad it’s going to make people it’s great um the tiebreaker is uh the most number of passes made the second tiebreaker is
Number of chest passes made and the third tide breaker is total number of Outlet passes made so there you go and then the top team of course gets 100 challenge points then team shooting this one sounds like it could be kind of fun teams compete one at a time all three
Players participate with one ball each team has 60 seconds to amass points while shooting from five different spots in the court each team must attempt their first shot from spot five which is a right slot 30 foot deep three-pointer um you have each player uh alternating in shot locations teams cannot repeat
The same shot consecutively so the spots you can shoot from right side 10- foot shot outside the lane left elbow extended topof thekey three-pointer left corner three-pointer and right slot 30 foot deep three-pointer ascending from one to Five Points in value from each of those but start from five everyone
Starts shooting a five-pointer okay yes and they only have one ball to do it with between the three of them so there’s like some coordination going on here I don’t hate this Joey it sounds almost like they’re inching towards bringing shooting stars back a little
Bit Yeah Yeah um and so the tied teams will in a tiebreaker will choose one player from respectives uh from each team to shoot from spot five each player or the first player to make it will move on and then the tiebreaker at the very end is a halfcourt shot competition if
Everyone’s tied then the teams compete one at a time the first team to hit a half court shot wins the game uh thoughts on the format before we dive into our predictions on the other side of the break thoughts on this format Joey are you hopeful for what this can
Be yeah I’m a little worried about Scotty in that last round going to be honest shooting one uhhuh yeah hey man that’s a 36% 3point shooter you’re talking about I know but 29 in the last month feels like Trey Trey might be carrying team Allstars based on what I just heard there

Challenge you got team Pacers team top picks or team Allstars Joey who are you leaning I think Vegas has a team top picks as the favorites as if that is a thing you could actually go bet on I don’t think team top picks is going to be very good at the
Passing yeah I mean yeah Anthony Edwards I don’t think that’s like his bag necessarily right I think team Pacers is easily the favorite here actually a because because the NBA always kind of rigs it for the home teams and any of these things um uh and I think when it comes to
Shooting you just put Miles Turner at the top of the key and Tyrese halberton at the fivepoint spot and Ma in running around rebounding yes I also wonder about like is Turner the guy who can dribble the least of this group and does that hurt obstacle course part is we and Yama too
Big to dribble it that might be a thing I think wemi is going to be awesome in this I worry more about Paulo in this actually um cuz like poo is super skilled and amazing obviously but it’s in sort of a different way than dribbling around moving targets um and I
Worry about Edwards in the passing and the shooting kind of actually um yeah I but I think wem’s gonna be awesome at this um I think Trey young is probably Trey young is probably going to be really good at this um uh because he’s a really good passer
Um he’s not as good of a shooter as people think he is but when no one is on him I imagine he’s pretty good at it yeah yeah yeah uh but yeah I don’t think Maxi is gonna be that good at this I might be wrong but also a really good
Shooter man I don’t know I kind of think team Allstars is gonna win it’s a good mix of this is not a homer pick either because I really don’t care Max to me seems like a guy who’s GNA brick so many passes that’s a distinct possibility
He’s used to just throwing it in the general direction of Joel embiid and not really having to pinpoint a Target I get that um I just I feel like the shooting the passing I think Scotty and Trey are very clearly going to outshine these other teams like halberton on his own
Will do a good job I’m not sure I’m pretty worried about Turner and Maan on from athletic standpoint right just like straight line speed like Maan and Edwards are like above A Cut Above All these guys Max the fastest guy here I think yes his whole thing it’s
True but it’s ALS he’s also a guy who physicals weren’t so strong he was a lottery pick it’s true I do think Scot Barnes is also like sneaky fast for a guy who’s 69ine like he can go but like he’s not like I mean mathine look to defend Benedict mathine who is

Just I think Turner his handle I feel like is going to be a liability and I think the passing one’s going to be a challenge for the Pacers I’m down to top picks are all stars and I think Allstars has has the juice man I don’t know I
Think they’re gonna be B I think I think you are overring Scotty’s passing he’s like a good NBA passer but there’s always a guy you think is going to be really good passing who bricks like a thousand passes maybe it’s halberton I it’s not gonna be halberton halberton it’s not
GNA be halberton or young it will be any of these other guys and unfortunately I think it might be Scotty and Maxi wow the locked on Raptors faithful are going to come for your head Joey well I don’t think Paulo or Edwards are going to be

Oh you are you against the idea of Steph against SAA sabr escu no I it’s fine I just think the the three everyone always talks about how good the Three-Point Contest is and I find it to be incredibly boring it’s like the home run without the the big home runs it’s just
Uh the same thing over and over again there’s no uh like creativity to it or strategy it’s just shoot threes it stinks it’s bad and I’m going to tell you right now he’s my favorite player ever no one has brought me more joy in my entire life than Steph Curry he is
