[Goldsberry] The 73-win warriors of 2015-16 had the top offense in the NBA. They would rank *21st* in offensive efficiency this season, below the Raptors, who are 19-36.

> The KD-Steph Warriors of 2016-17 that won 67 games and broke the record for most efficient offense in NBA history would rank *18th* in the NBA this season, below the Jazz and Timberwolves.

All star game sucks, defense sucks.

What happened to the game I love?

bring back punching people on the court. you get up to 40 points defense can just start doing Jon Jones moves on you.

Because the Raptors are so much better that’s why

I think ppl are missing the point with the defense bad comments. This is more about how crazy the league has quickly caught up to GS pace and amount of 3s taken

  5. Warriors were also famously 3rd quarter warriors who messed around the first half, roared in the 3rd quarter and sat down for the 4th. If you do per quarter, that 3rd quarter offense would probably rank high.

  6. 2015-16 Warriors ranked 1st in 3PA on 31.6 per game. They would rank 25th in 3PA this season. Just wild.

  7. Yep, league makes it so easy to score now. It doesn’t feel satisfying looking at those nasty 144-129 scores. Give me some beautiful 97-94 games fr fr

  8. This kinda exposes how flimsy OE is as stat.

I’ve seen the Raptors offense this year, it’s dogshit.

that year was also the last NBA year that a team (the excellent Spurs team) had a sub-100 defensive rating, at 98.2.

the team that was worst in the league that year in defensive rating was the Lakers, with a 110.3 defensive rating. That rating would tie today with the Cavs for the 2nd best defense in the league.

Please move the damn 3pt line out. Like 3+ feet.

  11. Rockets revolutionized offenses 10 years ago, only taking 9 mid-range shots per game. The second team was taking 16 per game. All the teams beside Rockets were taking 16-26 (already a steep decline from 10 years before, but some standard in the league). Rockets just ideologically cut an element of a game in half in one year, that is unprecedented.

Now, no team in the league is taking 16 mid-range shots per game. The range is 6-15.

Some people love to say “Curry changed it” but Rockets very visibly and obviously started changing it drastically in 2012-13, before Curry was called an All-Star.

  12. Make it harder to draw a foul on drives and remove the short corner threes

The real takeaway is how are there 10 teams who have a worse offense than us??

Guys from that era could never play in todays game. /s

It’s funny but everyone points to the Warriors as the offense that has formed the modern offense.

I don’t think most offenses even approach what GSW have today when it comes to off ball movement, (maybe sometimes illegal) scene setting and passing. Teams like Denver, Indy and Sacramento (no brainer) have mimic’d it for sure.

But to me, it’s that Houston offense..the one that was right there with GSW with Harden that has been copied more than anything because it’s so fuckin simple. You have your best guy, who dominates the ball and starts the possession, he calls for an iso or P&R, sometimes he gets fouled, sometimes finishes at the rim. If you double him or help, he kicks it out for a 3. There’s really no way to stop it if you have a guy that can break down a defense and in todays nba there are a ton of them and the rules cater to allowing it.

It’s funny, but sometimes I actually enjoy watching teams play more without their ball dominant star entertainment wise even if it’s not as good of an offense on paper. They seem to cut more, set more screens and get a little more creative because they have to.

Defense being dead is why I appreciate the likes of Draymond green and Patrick Beverley and Alex Caruso and ayo dosunmu more and more every day

  17. Hoping 5 years from
Now we can enable handchecking etc

  18. They don’t allow teams to play defense anymore. Guy with the ball runs elbows the defender, who’s going straight up, hands straight up – defensive foul. Now, some have said “But the foul rate isn’t any higher!” Yeah, because defenders have learned not so much to breathe on people as they go to the rack. IMHO has made the game hard to watch. Not to mention the shit is rigged – the NBA has clearly instructed the refs to make games close, so people don’t tune out, and to beat the spreads. If one team is down by 20 at the start of the 4th, guess which way the calls will go in that quarter? Ugh.

  19. Let’s be real, the 2016 Warriors would have by far the best offense if they played in today’s league.

  20. The-Pharcyde

I always knew this year raptors were better than that 73 win warriors team!

  21. tatuanphong

I think they should reset the clock to 24 instead of 14 with new possession. The game kinda going too fast.

  22. That team still man handling every team in this league lol
