Pretty interesting to hear it 25 years later. The one part I disagree with is framing it like dudes got traded for supporting Spree. Whatever helps him sleep at night but that team was truly terrible in the wake of the Webber departure.

The most “really that happened” thing to me about the incident was Matt Steinmetz had some really good reporting on the story. People think of him as the radio guy. He was the dude who reported the Spree saga to me.

  2. I always liked Spree better than PJ and always figured it was something like this, nice to hear a players take.

PJ is a fakkin jargoff coach anyways.

Spree’s fall is a sad story. I think he would have been more successful in today’s NBA but who knows.

PJ just has a punchable face and I bet his breath stinks.

  5. Growing up in the 90s , spree was and is still my favorite warrior. Always knew that PJ was the punk, nice to hear the rest of the story

  6. for those who weren’t around or don’t remember the warriors were god awful to start the 1997/98 NBA season

when this choking incident happened the warriors record at that time was 1-13

they began the season with a 9 game losing streak, won their only game in OT, and then lost 4 straight after that before that the altercation in practice took place on the first day of december

after that the warriors went 7-33 over the next 40 games including losing 14 in a row & losing 21 of 22 games during that 2.5 month stretch

that moment and season in general was truly a low point for the entire warriors franchise
