The Dallas Mavericks return to action in a couple of days against the Phoenix Suns as the All-Star break is almost over Harrison Graham and Jeffrey cooperstein with you on today’s show we are ranking the most important players on the Mavericks for the second half of this season and Coupe it’s a first of

All it’s really the final third of the season games remaining and second of all um Mavs are hot six games in a row let’s see if they can carry that momentum and make a push you wouldn’t know that they’re hot if you watch ESPN or any

Other talking head show there in uh NBA media but they are indeed hot six in a row a big game against Phoenix coming up I believe Phoenix has a one game advantage over the Maverick it’s a massive game man so it it’s a huge game

And a good test coming out of the gate here so hopefully the map can get off on the right foot uh before we get started with today’s show though this just popped in my mind and I was thinking about this earlier what is your favorite

Not much not much more to be said about Marie omx Prosper you know he’s still developing we’ll see if he gets some rotation opportunities obviously with you know Maxi Cleo playing well PJ Washington in here his opportunities will probably be few and far between I think for him it’s you know continued to

Continuing to develop for next season to be a part of this B yeah development year for omx hopefully he can continue his trajectory and and be a big part of this team going forward for sure Dwight pal culture guy um he’s now in his proper role he’s your number three

Center he’s going to play on occasion you know he’ll be kind of On The Fringe of the rotation some nights he’ll give a few minutes some nights he’ll be dnp um the good news is is when he he plays he’s not going to have to play a lot and

In very short spurts he still gives you a little something offensively but now you don’t have to rely on him you kind of hit it right on the head there I think this is exactly where Dwight pal needs to be and where the Mavericks have tried to get Dwight pal in the rotation

For it seems like a couple of years now uh he’s now the third Center on the roster maybe even the fourth when we talk about the next guy and pal is a guy that should not be playing more than 10 minutes a night and he really won’t be

Doing that uh if he even plays it at all so I think the Mavericks finally upgraded their Center position to the point where Dwight pal is no longer a nuisance on this team especially yeah look ideally he’s a guy come playoff time that never has to play there you go

I mean that’s that’s really what you’re looking at here Maxi kleba you know he this is the first player that you could you could kind of debate like you know where you rank him now recently I would argue he’s been more important but in general like I don’t think you have to

Bank on kba he’s kind of a luxury at this point C if he’s given you quality minutes like he has recently that’s great if he’s not it doesn’t kill you whereas earlier this season they felt his absence when he was injured because Dwight pal was having to play more they

Were having to try rwn Holmes so now Clea is kind of just a luxury I think right now he should be in the rotation with the way he’s playing but yeah if if he starts playing poorly you don’t have to play exactly if Maxi is playing well

Then more power to him and get him some minutes but the Mavericks no longer need Maxi to be a key part of their team uh if he can can give them the defense that he’s been showing over the last month or so before the All-Star break then that’s

Great but right now the Mavericks are basically 11 deep and Maxi is that 11th guy so that’s kind of where the Mavericks hit right now after the trade deadline we’ll get into the top 10 in just a moment but listen we have a subscriber battle going on with Warriors

Been trending up recently and uh look you know you and I have both said you could still use kind of that third ball handler maybe he be he’s that guy you never know maybe he’s a guy that come playoff time does get some rotation run yeah it’s going to be between Jaden

Hardy and this guy Dante exm as far as who gets those minutes and it’ll be an interesting choice that Jason kid has to make between these two uh he kind of messed around with it in the first half of the Season where he kind of split those minutes between hardy and exom I

Kind of think here in these final 27 games he needs to pick one and just run with them obviously that’s not ideal for the guy who kind of gets left out of the rotation but I think it would be better for team cohesion uh if he picks between

One of these two guys yeah and look exom hasn’t done himself any favors he hasn’t been playing much recently hasn’t been healthy du just some minor injuries so you know at one point it looked like he might be a firm starter on this team and there’s a scenario where he’s not in the

Rotation the the first month and a half of the Season Dante exen was probably like the third most important player on this team behind Luca and Kyrie he was so good for sure and then he uh he got injured and he really hasn’t played since so we don’t really know what’s

Going on apparently Jason kid said he’s supposed to be at practice uh either today or tomorrow getting ready for that game against Phoenix so we’ll see what happens with XM but uh he’s going to have he’s going to have a choice to make between these two guys for sure yeah let

Us know who should play more type zero for Dante aom one for Jaden Hardy I mean it’s it’s kind of a classic defense offense thing xm’s the better Defender Hardy’s the better off and he’s the better ball handler too um so yeah it’s it’s going to be interesting to see what

Happens here let us know in the comment section below DK Jones Jr has kind of been trending down Coupe but the good news is is again with the some additions they’ve made they don’t have to rely on him as much hopefully this break he’s able to kind of recoup a bit cuz he’s

Played more minutes this year than he’s ever had so maybe he just hit a bit of a wall early in the year there were times where he was like the second best player on the team and the good news is is now he doesn’t have to be that can he have

An impact with the Lesser role if he can that would be huge yeah it’s not a good thing that he’s trending down because he just hasn’t been playing great I think over the last like two months he’s shooting less than 30% from three so he’s really cooled down uh from there

Especially but it is a good thing that he is now lower in the pecking order on the rotation because again the Mavericks were aggressive at the trade deadline went out in main moves got PJ Washington who plays the Derrick Jones Jr role uh he’s just a more talented player I think

On especially on the offensive end on the defensive end Jones probably gives you about the same as Washington but his offense is obviously uh what moves him up in the pecking order so look the the the better players that you have down in the rotation uh that’s good for Jason

Kid and it’s going to be an embarrassment of riches going forward hopefully we got Tim Hardaway Jr at number seven and you know Tim’s such a tough kind of evaluation here because he also might win you a playoff game or two uh come playoff time with his streaky

Shooting but he’s not a great defender when he’s cold he’s kind of a negative if we’re being completely honest he haven’t been playing great recently but again coming into the year he was kind of viewed as this team’s six man so you have him at six or seven that’s kind

Kind of what you were hoping for coming into the season yeah they actively tried to trade him this offseason tin came in the first half and for the most part outside of the last couple weeks before the All-Star break he was really consistent was playing really well the

Reason I have Josh Green at number six over Tim Hardway is because green is playing the best basketball of his career at the right time and this is the most important players uh for the second half of the season and if green continues his trajectory and how he’s

Playing I think he plays a bigger role uh in this Mavericks run than Tim Hardway does yeah he probably gives you a tick more ball handling he’s been efficient from the field recently uh we know he’s a better Defender than Tim so yeah I think I would uh I would agree

If he’s a guy that’s going to defend at a high level then uh that’s going to be a huge thing for this Mavericks basketball team yeah I I was unfamiliar with PJ Washington’s defensive game so I apologize to him I mean sh in that game against uh against the Spurs where Jason

Kid put him on wemi to start the second half he kind of clamped up wemi man I mean he’s played really well on the defensive end guarding fours even fives at some point uh he has range too he’s really long and he’s he has a big wings

Span so he gets in the passing Lanes as well love what PJ Washington’s doing he’s going to start knocking down the threes because get so many open shots and when that happens man this Mavericks team is going to be absolutely frightening yeah and Thursday will’ll be interesting he’ll probably get the Kevin

Durant sign at least a good chunk of that game so we’ll see how he holds up there how about the other new member of this team Daniel Gafford who in the three games he’s played he’s you know probably been a top two or three he unbelievable excellent rebounder we know

About his shot blocking ability as well he can start he can come off the bench um I I think it’s really fair to just pair these two guys together bring in Derek Lively like they’re pretty interchangeable to me gafford’s more experien um you know maybe he’s probably

A little more polished as a shot blocker just CU he’s been in the league a little bit longer but they’re both great lob threats with Luca they set good screens they rebound so these two guys together I think you know you put together their per 36 minute stats like they’re it’s

One of the best sitter combinations in the league I would guess in the three games that they have played or that Gafford has played at least how nice has it been to say oh my God we have a center that’s not Derrik Lively that can do basic Center things and catch lobs

For Luca I mean to have one of these two guys on the court for 48 minutes a game is going to be fantastic for Luca and for Kyrie and for this Mavericks team hopefully coming back out of the break Derek Lively is even more healthy he

Might have to wear the mask for a couple more weeks but that’s no big deal and then the Mavericks will just there’ll be a force to be reckon with up front man with these three guys with Washington with Gafford with Lively throw Maxi kba into that rotation is kind of your

Fourth big as well you can throw Derrick Jones in there the Mavericks are all of the sudden very lengthy and they are very good on defense and they can rebound as well up front yeah that’s a big deal when you’re not giving up Second Chance points which the Mavs

Haven’t really been doing the last few games uh top two are obvious Kyrie and Luca donic um look we could talk about the role players and they certainly are going to play a big role there’s no doubt about it but this team will go as

Far as Luca and Kyrie take them to a certain extent now obviously you know guys got to help them out you need those bigs to impact shots and rebound and all those sort of things but if those guys are going to shoot you know 48 50 plus

Perc and be efficient from three and combine to average 60 points per game I mean you’re going to have a chance against AB team so that’s that’s a good sign we’ve talked about Luca’s defense on this channel he’s having a career year on that side of the floor as well

And Kyrie recently has been healthy and very productive he’s been that fourth quarter assassin that we know he’s capable of being so so look The Vibes are high right now the guy the guys have had you know a little over a week off so we’ll see how they come out of the break

But uh I’m excited for this final third heading into the playoffs all I know is that Kyrie has been back in the Mavericks are six and0 since he’s since he’s returned so notable more or less when Kyrie plays this team’s really good uh when he doesn’t play they definitely

Have a void so and I’m hoping that Kyrie plays every game down the stretch you just never know with that guy I want to believe in him so bad because every time I watch him play I’ll text my buddies and be like this guy is just unbelievable on the off he’s one of

Those players that maybe not every night but most Knights like he’ll do something that it’s like w will wow you absolutely the Mavericks are one of maybe three or four teams that have two guys like that they are they must watch TV every single night Luca could go for 73 Kyrie could

Just do some ridiculous finish cross over I mean his like pette finger roll is in all time time B he he he is so good on the offensive end and when he’s healthy and this team is cooking man they can beat anybody in the league I mean I believe they are title

Contenders if those guys are healthy I really do especially with this new just Center combination I mean they’re they can hold up against these teams with quality no DS which is which is an absolute Game Changer there’s no doubt about it predict the Maverick’s record over the final 27 games they’re

Currently at 32 and 23 18 and N gets you to 50 yeah I mean look I think if you win I don’t know what number is I think if you go 16 and 11 you get into that top six I mean I I think 48 wins has got

To be the number you’re identifying to avoid the play I think if you do that you’re going to be in good shape and look I don’t think under you can understate or overstate this first game against Phoenix I mean it’s it’s kind of a two game swing if you win it you’re

Kind of like tied for that five six spot if you lose it you’re a couple games back so you really need to put all your eggs in this Phoenix game and really try to go take it man yeah it it’s a big game on Thursday for sure it’s a TNT

Game so the NBA uh World basically will be watching is it in Phoenix or is it in uh it’s home it’s home it’s home here so the crowd will be rocking it’s an early crowd so probably a late arriving it’s an early start So Pro probably a late
