This is kind of like how our strength of schedule is low because we are the only team that doesn’t have to play the Celtics. Jayson Tatum has always been on super teams because when you put Jayson Tatum on the team it becomes a super team.

This really isn’t that good of a thread, overdramatized.

What Tatum super team narrative?!? The only time it was even close was 5 minutes his rookie year.

  4. I feel like there’s more of a “people don’t give Tatum enough credit” narrative than a “Tatum doesn’t deserve as much credit” narrative… He’s been an All Star starter 4 years in a row, 1st team All-NBA 2 years in a row (with a good chance to make it 3 this year), 6th in MVP voting 2 years ago and 4th last year, not being seriously considered for MVP currently but still hanging around 5th in MVP ladders…

Sure he gets clowned for some stuff, like the underperformance in the Finals… but he did underperform in the Finals. And every big player gets clowned when they underperform.

    This is a non story

The “Tatum has always been on a great team” argument is stupid. Very stupid. However, it’s important to note that almost all of his peers that he is frequently compared to (Luka, Ant, Shai) mostly were either drafted to way worse teams, or played with way worse teams, in the case of Shai. I don’t know why it matters because the team that you play with has nothing to do with how good at hoops you are, but oh well.

I can tell most of the people on here don’t spend time in the trenches of NBA Twitter. Consider yourselves lucky.

Such great context. Dray had done an annoyingly good job lately propagating this narrative. Someone should enroll him in the jelly school. All because Chuck called him out saying he wouldn’t make it far enough to see the Celts in the playoffs.

It doesn’t feel like the players have unreal expectations, it sounds like the fans do. We’ve been spoiled by Boston sports early 2000-2010s. These two are hustling and it’s because of their hard work we are where we are. They can improve, Brown can make better decisions, Tatum can stop whining so much, but man am I thankful we drafted them.

Super team is when other superstars agree to team up and try to manipulate their situations to this end. Celtics last few years haven’t met this definition.

The people that make “Lol Tatum” arguments are usually just trolls looking to bait Cs fans. If they’re serious then they’re just idiots.

Facts like these don’t matter because it’s not even about facts in the first place. It’s just internet trolling.

I mean he joined an already well established roster, yeah. He did take us to game 7 without Gordon or Kyrie as a rook- counts for something

They are pushing the narrative early because we are the most legit threat to win a championship. They want to downplay Tatum before he wins a chip. I wouldn’t even worry about it.

Would it be OK for me to crosspost this to r/nba? I’m quite interested in how other fanbases will interpret this thread

  13. this is the only superteam hes ever been on and the one ill talk the most shit about

That’s a W, each summary gave me mental snapshots of each year.

It’s true this team has been through a ton, and it’s the Jays that have been the rock through all of it (along with Brad and Smart)

It’s crazy looking back I didn’t even have any thoughts or opinions of the Tatum draft, that year was all about powering to a championship with the Big 3 of Kyrie, Hayward and Horford.

The Jays fought for their spot and it has worked out with tremendous success for the most part
