Shaq Is TOTALLY Wrong About Luka Doncic, BUT Luka Doesn’t Care.

Shaq Is TOTALLY Wrong About Luka Doncic, BUT Luka Doesn’t Care.

Shaq just blew everyone’s minds when he   said he’d take SGA over Luka –  but Luka doesn’t care one bit. Really, Shaq? Luka and SGA both came in the league the same  year – the 2018 draft. Since then, Luka’s been

First team all nba four straight times since his  sophomore year, and since they changed the way   the All-NBA lineups work this season, there’s no  way that streak will end at the end of this year. Luka was dropping 29-9-9 by his second  season when he was 20 years old. Dude

Was almost averaging a 30 point triple double  for a season, and he couldn’t even drink beer! He is the scariest offensive player  to face in the NBA right now. He’s one of the top few passers in the league,  ripping off unreal assists from every angle.

He has the one-arm rocket bounce pass  through defenders like LeBron… or the   no-looker while driving to the basket  like Rondo… or the lobs like CP3. Luka’s listed as a point guard, and  in the modern-day sense of the word…   maybe? But it’s totally irrelevant what  position his trading card says he is,

Because the fact is, he’s no worse than a  top-three passer in the league right now.   Who would you have ahead of him? Jokic,  Haliburton? Let us know in the comments. But the funniest thing is… he’s  also the best scorer in the league. Are we allowed to say that, considering Embiid led

The league in points per game the last two  years, and is on pace to again this year? While Luka might not have the most athletic  physique in the world, it doesn’t really matter. He’s never been a stellar three-point shooter,

Even though he takes a lot – but this year,  he’s at a career-high 38% from deep while   hitting the second-most in the league. If  this pace keeps up, he’ll be unstoppable. Because if he’s hitting from out  there, how else can you stop him?

Nobody in the league is better at  weird angles than Luka. It doesn’t   matter where he’s leaning or falling  – he’s going to get the right roll. It’s sort of like Kyrie, just way slower.  And Kyrie does not have the backdown ability

That Luka does. That’s why it’s so hard to  call him a point guard – he’s so strong!   When have you ever seen a 6-7, 230 pound  point guard back guys down in the paint? That combo – along with his totally  underrated competitive spirit – is

Probably why he’s dropped the two craziest  lines in the league in the past two years. On January 23, Joel Embiid dropped 70  points to break Wilt’s Philly record. Three days later, Luka wanted to prove  that he’s the best scorer in the NBA,   dropping 73, fourth most ever,

Against the Hawks – the team that originally  drafted him, trading him for Trae Young. Atlanta probably wants that one back. By the way – Shaq’s comments came ten days before   Luka put up 73. You think that’s a  coincidence, or did Luka hear him?

And is that 73 point outing as good as  his 60 point triple double last year? Harden was the first guy to put up  60 in January 2018. In December 2022,   Luka joined him – and for good  measure, grabbed 20 rebounds. 60-20-10. Insane. Has SGA done that?

Ya, Shaq was talking about SGA. Shai  Gilgeous-Alexander. He would take SGA over LUKA! You wanna hear something really  crazy? Shai has never – in his   entire career – had a game with 34  points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists. If Luka put up those stats tonight…  his averages would go down.

So what’s Shaq got against Luka? After  they partied together in Croatia,   we thought they were friends! Then Luka taught Big Diesel some Slovenian. Part of it might be overcompensation.  Jason Kidd was a little too high on Luka,   saying he’s better than  Dirk and in MJ’s atmosphere.

Luka has an insane amount of NBA  records. 42 points in a playoff debut,   three triple doubles in his first seven playoff  games, first to get a 60-20 triple double,   and the youngest player to lead the  league outright in triple doubles. That being said – he is useless  on half of the basketball court.

He’s not particularly athletic, he doesn’t have  defensive instincts – but most importantly,   he just doesn’t try on that end. He’ll kick  it into high gear when the game’s close,   but when your effort’s been low all game  on defense, it’s hard to pick it back up.

But is that such a big deal? Isn’t it worth  it to have him basically rest on defense so   he can be full-go on offense? And with today’s  rules, it’s not like defense matters, anyway! Tell that to SGA. That’s the argument for SGA over Luka.  He’s putting up 31 points, 6 boards,

And 7 assists on way better shooting numbers  than Luka – and he does it all while maybe being   the best defensive guard in the league,  at least among good offensive players. He’s leading the league in steals right now, and  he’s top five in blocks among guards this year.

Shai tries on both ends of  the court, every single night. Is that why his team is better than Luka’s? More importantly – is Shai a  better fit with his teammates? You can talk about the Mavericks’ incompetence  in team building – Jalen Brunson and Porzingis

Both are thriving after leaving the Mavs – Luka’s  had less help than any star of the last few years But is that less about the Mavs getting Luka  help, or the fact that Luka’s hard to play with? Listen – this isn’t fantasy basketball. There  are more important things than basic stats.

Luka is a high-usage guy, the type of player who  never wins titles (except Michael Jordan. Sorry,   Jason Kidd – Luka’s not MJ). There’s some  balance of remembering that if he has no help,   he needs to have high usage  and realizing his high usage

Is hurting his teammates – but which is  it? Because SGA’s been able to find that   balance – are the Thunder that much better  at building a team than the Mavericks? Between how easy it is to  play with SGA versus Luka,

And the fact that Luka is just not interested  on one side of the court – are Shaq’s comments   that crazy? Or is it just obviously Luka –  no question? Let us know in the comments. You know who Shaq was totally wrong  about too? Wemby. Watch it here next.

Shaq is totally wrong about Luka Doncic, but Luka didn’t care. Shaq recently said he would take SGA, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander over Luka Doncic right now. The NBA world went crazy with Luka Doncic 73 points vs the Hawks, which makes you think Luka heard what Shaq said. Who would you take between SGA and Luka, right now? Let us know in the comments! 1. No way you still hear saying Luka has bad defense… like cmon actually watch games and not just box scores

  2. Luka has had some crazy growth this year and for me he is the clear MVP, with the 3rd most injured team with lower quality team members he has carried the Mavs to their current position which would be drastically lower than what it is. SGA is a fantastic player, but he is 3rd after Jokic in my estimation.

  3. There are a lot of videos about Luka on Youtube. So you better get it right if you want to stand out. Saying he is useless on one side of the ball while playing his best defense this season shows you don't watch his games. Or at least not the defensive side.

  4. You're wrong about Lukas defense and the roster around him. Time will prove that. His usage rate is why kyrie is so important to the team.

  5. Regardless, if you been watching the mavs this year, luka is a lot more locked in on defense, and complaining less to the refs, compared to other years.

  6. It feels like Hoopers Ln. hasn't watched the Mavericks or Luka all year. Luka is in the top 10 for multiple defensive metrics and is 7th in the league in steals. This is while leading the league in scoring. And when last the Mavs played SGA and the Thunder, the Mavs beat the brakes off a full strength Thunder team.

  7. Wow, he does play Defense my guy. He ain't all-NBA but he he ain't a liability like Dirk was. I mean come on, the dude is 8th in steals this season.

  8. This video just seems kinda outdated. Check out Luka’s recent defensive numbers. They are scary good. And the current Mavs team after the trades – doesn’t look like he’s hard to play with.

  9. First it was Trae or Luka, then Ja or Luka, now SGA or Luka. Always someone different every year or Luka. Next season it'll be Edwards or Luka. Can't accept the not explosive white European as the best PG.

  10. Shaq comment is just a compliment to SGA for his hardwork. But team involvement? Luka statistics of triple double with high scoring and high assist than SGA is a bias comparison by Shaq. Luka takes over a game to win and not unselfish way because he involve open team mates but if they dont makes the shot thats the time he takes over.

  11. 3:18 – I definitely don't think Luka was trying to go out there and have a 70 point game, because he only took 33 shots and had to shoot 76% on FG to do it! It's once in a lifetime to drop 73 only 33 shots!

  12. You're tripping calling Luka useless on defense! 7th in Steals, 29th in Blocks and Steals combined (6th amongst Guards). Luka ranks 1st in the NBA in post-defense, and 10th in the NBA in iso-defense.

On Christmas day, Luka joined Anthony Davis as the only two players in NBA history to have a game where they recorded at least 50 Points, at least 4 Steals, and at least 3 Blocks. This game netted Doncic the 19th highest gamescore ever, and he is the only player in NBA history with 3 games that rank in the top-20 all time in gamescore.
