Allstar Weekend is officially over and we got some surprise news this morning that caught me off guard by coach jacqu vaugh being fired by the Brooklyn Nets we’re also going to discuss a extension that just recently happened with the Minnesota Timberwolves and point guard Mike connley who is 36 years old is it

Let’s get into the topic at hand there today and that is jacqu Von fired now I know the Nets have not played very well and they’ve had some pretty bad losses as of late but I just didn’t see it coming for jacqu Von to be fired the

Team overall has been playing kind of all over the place individually as players and some of the schemes weren’t necessarily the best but I didn’t think that they were going to make this move so quick of jacqu V being let go however it happened and this is what I saw this

Morning Jac vongh issued a statement to the ESPN after being fired on Monday morning and said following his dismissal as Net’s coach to Joe sa claraa WOAI Ali Weisberg Sam zusman Shan Marx and front office Nets coaches staff players BSE family and the entire Brooklyn borrow it

Was a pleasure being your head coach I hope each individual I interacted with felt respected and valued just know I gave you everything I had every single day on to the next chapter am more FTI and that is interesting for him to say for sure um really didn’t see that

Coming uh you know at least he really enjoyed his time there it seemed you know he gave it his all as we know he came from an assistant coach came up through he really has worked to be in the position that he’s in Jac Von and it

Was uh you know it’s sad to see him have to go from the Brooklyn Nets but they simply weren’t getting things done we could see here this season they’re 21 and 33 they rank 18th in offense they’re 20th in SRS they’re 23rd in Pace they’re 21st in defensive rating and 21st in net

Rating and they’re expected win loss at this point in time well should have only been two wins better but I definitely think that the uh front office for the next thought that they were going to be closer to 30 wins right now than 20 wins uh after some success they had last year

I know they made the moves and still made the playoffs after losing a whole bunch of games that whole drama last year when Kevin Durant was moved to the Phoenix Suns but I really did think that this team might have still been a playing Team the way that they played

Towards the end of the year last year but I do think a lot of players have digressed taken a step back especially mcal bridges on the defensive end and that’s not necessarily just um or even any of it being Jo B’s fault but that sort of thing just happens sometimes to

Players in this league and I feel like a lot of them are really discouraged and some of them disgruntled and it just has been working out in Brooklyn so maybe a new look is what they need but I’m not sure if that was the right choice Kevin

Oly however is a potential Target for the Brooklyn Nets and he’s been on the team now for uh almost a year now he’s been joined with the Brooklyn Nets sign just before last season in the offseason and uh if you’re wondering what position he’s been in you can see it right here

On June 20th Brooklyn Nets named Kevin Oly will Weaver Jay Hernandez and Ronnie Burell as assistant coaches so that is exactly where Kevin noie is now he coached at Yukon before that and is obviously if you know anything about Kevin noly he was a journeyman in the

NBA playing the point guard position and now he will be taking over the Brooklyn Nets played the same position as Jac Von and uh yeah we’ll have to see how that works out point guards as NBA coach just doesn’t always work out Steve Nash didn’t work out with the Nets but now

Jason kid who didn’t work out with the Nets is having a great job with the uh Dallas Mavericks and yeah we’ll have to see maybe this is the right move for them being it Kevin Oly it’s not just somebody that they had to panic and get

Maybe this was a move in the making they were waiting for olly to be ready and maybe they just decide to make the move because they didn’t like V anymore I’m not really sure but we’ll have to see we’ll keep a close eye on how Kevin Olie

Does with the Brooklyn Nets and keep you updated as soon as we know now moving on to second topic today it is Mike connley to stay in Minnesota now I thought that he’d stay in Minnesota but I didn’t know if the contct contract extension was really going to happen it seemed like it

Might just be a deal that they do in the off season however they wanted to sign to an extension right away Mike Conley is 36 years old but is this the right move for the Minnesota Timberwolves right now well that’s exactly what I want to look at and break down for you

Guys here and we can see exactly where they are playing with Mike connley in the lineup so he did sign this morning a 2-year extension and it is $21 million so not a whole lot of money for a veteran po guard that’s playing well with the team but it still is enough

Money for a guy that’s 36 years old be 37 next season by the end of this 38 and it’s definitely something to think about uh this keeps him on the team obviously in their back court through 2025 26 do they think that he’s going to be as good

As he is right now in two years that’s really hard to say cuz once again as we mentioned other time is definitely undefeated and this is not something that you want to play around with PJ Tucker’s currently on a contract that isn’t so great and that’s been a big

Issue for the Clippers to try to move him he wants to be bought out he’s not getting playing time hopefully a similar situation doesn’t happen with Conley I think he’s a much better player than PJ Tucker is and even was a few seasons ago so maybe he can still remain this pace

And uh hopefully he can perform still for the Timber rolles by the end of this deal now with them all time I mean the timber rolles are 4925 with Mike connley I mean that that looks great they obviously that’s a 66% win percentage and yeah they’re putting up about 114

Points per game 27 assists with him there you can see the stats down there below they’re even shooting 39% from three and 49 from the field with him on the court that is some crazy crazy uh numbers for a point guard to put towards a team when it comes to winning and that

That shows the impact that he still has at this Advanced age the timber wolles also have record of 37 and 13 this season so that’s even better when you look at it I mean overall the team was uh 12- 12 with him before this season

And now you can see that they are 37 and 13 so that is a great great marage in the season he’s really put things together over there he’s kind of figured it out and he definitely has been their point guard not of the future but of

Right now you can see that he has a whole lot of badges there when we look at the crafted NBA he is one of the better passers Shooters he’s a big and tangible guy he fits everywhere where he’s so versatile he is only 5′ 11 but

Does have a 66 wingspan so big wingspan on a point guard there for Conley he is unfortunately 36 years old but then when we look at his points per game and his numbers this season he’s playing one minute less still shooting 44% from the field and 44 from three is the best of

His career by a decent margin actually on five attempts a game still putting up 11 points points three rebounds six assists 92% from the free throw line on hardly an attempts but still very efficient and only one turnover he has been great throughout his whole career on not turning the ball over but

Especially this season it’s been great I mean what else could you ask for out of Mike Conley this year nothing in my opinion he has been absolutely Stellar but you do have to take into account that he is 36 years old and the chances of him slowing down could happen at any

Time now last thing we want to mention here is just how is he doing at the advanced metrics well you couldn’t get much better for a guy like Mike Conley his true shooting percentage 84% shot quality 94th uh he doesn’t get the free throw line often but everything on

Offense that you can see there even his offensive rebounding is very very good and is one of the best passers in the entire NBA which leaves him with an 83rd uh percentile for his crafted offensive plus minus he gets just above League average deflections causes more defensive turn turnovers he even grabs a

Solid amount of offensive rebounds for a guy that’s 5’1 he’s not going to the rim or getting any blocks but once again 5’11 the versatility on defense isn’t as high because he can’t protect the rim but he doesn’t foul very often either and his overall defense is still very

Solid at the 82nd percentile Conley still performing at a very high rate in this league uh just as always he’s always one of those great starters in the league he’s been a fringe all start for a very long time past couple years years obviously not so much but he has

Been very important to the Timberwolves as they do make the make do make the look a uh look to make sorry a dent in the playoffs and if they do so it will be a lot to do with Mike Conley he has been absolutely phenomenal come this
