I think Melo’s point was that they tried to insult him & his legacy by allowing a 2nd round pick to put on his number. Denver thought Jokic would be a nobody & they hated Melo for leaving. So when Jokic came in asking for his usual number, instead of saying “you have to earn this number cuz the last guy who wore it took us to the WCF & helped rebuild our franchise”, they said “oh you want 15? Sure who cares. The last guy who wore it left us anyway.”
