[Dumas] It sounds like Klay Thompson will be coming off of the bench for the foreseeable future. Steve Kerr mentions he’s excited about a CP3/Klay bench tandem: (1:32)

Good decision. I can see Klay thriving off the bench with CP3.

So I guess it’s Curry, Podz, Wiggins, JK, Dray to start. CP3, GP2, Klay, Saric, Loon/TJD as second unit (once CP3 is healthy?). I could live with this. I like Klay as a 3 in the 2nd unit.

It’s just too important to have another ball handler/passer (and even rebounder) with JK and wigs since u wanna run with those 2 and Steph spacing out to the arc.

  4. CP3, Klay, GP2, Otto Porter (likely imo), TJD (hopefully) is a killer backup 5

CP3 and Klay Thompson as your 6th and 7th man is pretty crazy!

Kerr’s body language is fascinating. The reflexive body hugging through this clip, as he makes his points for the decision is like he feels defensive.

The bigger question is why it took so long to come to this point

Those of you bashing Klay need to remember how special he was. Lights out shooter. Don’t forget, this is what we looked like with a microwave shooting guard in the lineup.

  8. For Klay and CP3, playing other teams’ bench has to be like turning the game’s difficulty settings down to a lower level

This is fine as long as Treymond and Podz can knockdown the occasional 3 and Wiggins/JK take turns being aggressive and are actually able to finish around the paint.

CP3/Moody/Klay/GP2/Saric is a very good bench. Would have 3 shooters, an excellent on-ball defender and active younger hustle player, and CP3 to limit TOs.

Man, I’m just not sure how JK & Podz are going to handle being 2nd & 3rd options against playoff teams. So different when good playoff defenses treat you as big threats & the pressure that comes with it. Going from two all-stars with years of playoff experience, to someone with no playoff experience & a rookie is such a drastic difference.

Hopefully Wiggs & Klay pick up their offense massively soon (at least Wiggs has his 3 back)

  11. RIP to defense being this team’s main focus again and godspeed to soon to be 34 yr old Dray at the 5 with a Steph/Podz POA (because lolz why would you want to take advantage of JK and Wiggs’ defense and athleticism at the POA when you can add another small guard that forces them both to the wings and off the POA 🫠 /s obviously) 💔

Edit to add: also we’ll probably see the return of passive Steph again, although this time out of necessity/not by choice, on account of opposing defenses being let off the hook having to choose between Steph or Klay. Steph’s shooting splits in this lineup vs. formidable teams and/or teams that actually play defense (aka Lakers, Clippers, Suns, Kings, and Jazz) – 30.4% overall (7/23) and 23.1% from 3 (3/13). He’s 4th in this lineup in total pts scored with 19 pts. Draymond has more with 21 pts, to really put things in perspective. 😭

20 min of cp3, klay, saric bench mob min and a deep playoff run is possible. No more. Right now he’s got Kuminga subbing early to anchor bench units but he’s put out there next to Klay and Looney who are to slow defensively to enable semi transition offense. Kuminga doesn’t look good in that lineup. Coaching is more complicated than chess pieces because the pieces are alive, but he’s got to get to these lineups eventually and play what’s obvious to scouts if he wants the season to end on a good positive note.

Props to Kerr for starting to see the light. This season is absolutely salvageable. Klay and CP3 with TJD (and Moody imo) would be a very solid rotation.

If the Warriors go 20-9 or better and make the 6th spot I think Kerr should get some consideration for coach of the year. Which is insane to think given what I thought of Kerr two months ago. Dude took way too long to make the right decisions but he has eventually come around to make all the right decisions. I’m extremely hyped for the remainder of the season.

  15. Then TJD should be with that lineup too, CP can’t do anything with Loon.

We’ll see what happens. Keep Looney away from Klay, Steve.
