We should get the MVP narrative running

Jayson Tatum this season:

27.1 PPG
8.5 RPG
4.8 APG
60.5 TS%

Only 3 other players have put up 27/8/4 and 60 TS% on a team with .750 win percentage — Giannis, Malone, Kareem. All 3 won MVP.

  1. I don’t think we should, while I’d love to see JT as the MVP this will come as a talking point if we win this year anyhow.

I’d be more interested in pushing All-nba JB, All defense STOCK Exchange, maybe all nba KP, DPOY DWhite.

Having DWhite as a top3 in DPOY, JT in top3-5 MVP, all nba JB and all defense Stock Exchange seems much more telling of this team.

No his numbers don’t justify in comparison to others.

  3. Swarthykins

Please stop this dumb schit. He’s a great player but he’s not the MVP of the league. Fanbases’ bullshit pandering is just pathetic.

  4. Yaboiii777

He doesn’t deserve it this year guys it’s ok. We need the fmvp more

  5. AirJordan6124

Just like Draymond said, JT ain’t winning it unless he wins a chip

  6. Nah, Jokic Luka and SGA are the only ones with a shot

  7. JaDamian_Steinblatt

Do you think Jayson Tatum is the most valuable player in the NBA?

  8. Wonderful_Eagle_6547

You can’t use raw ts% to compare players from different eras. When Kareem put up a .639 ts% in 1980, his scoring efficiency was more than 20% better than league average. Tatum’s 60.5 ts% is about 4% better than league average.

He simply doesn’t have the numbers… and that’s fine.

  10. SAS is already on this train (along with Perk).

  11. Brad-Stevens

Tatum would be a runaway winner if this were 20-30 years ago

People care more about stats than winning since the Westbrook charity year

  12. I_Set_3_Alarms

It was exhausting just doing that at the beginning of last year.

He’s not going to win, let’s just worry about being ready for the playoffs

  13. AdmiralWackbar

He won’t win. At a bare minimum it’s a narrative award and the media has already been spinning the stories that we should win a championship and if we don’t it’s a huge disappointment. They’ve already decided they’re not impressed by anything we do this year. It’s great, I love the hate. Were the best sports city in America we don’t need their bs

  14. Hopefulmisery

There’s a media/fan narrative Tatum is the NBA’s Brock Purdy. Just a product of an excellent system. Which is very unfair to Tatum. They also hold the ‘22 finals against him and the lackluster G7 vs Miami.

Is that all fair? No, it isn’t. But that’s the vibe I get.

  15. HairWeaveKillers

I think the team is focusing on the larger task in securing a banner . I think all the mvp talk can just be a distraction

  16. Routine-Spite-4167

I would love to see him win one but I wanna see him win a chip before anything. Prove these haters and casuals wrong talking about tatum always stinks in the playoffs..

  17. CrackaZach05

He’s not the best player in basketball, guys. Love JT, but quit lying to yourself. He still has work to do

  18. FlyingMocko

No need. Unnecessary pressure if he wins an MVP and doesn’t do we’ll come playoff time.

He just needs to get his chip then NO ONE can’t speak on him with their Luka better, Shai better nonsense anymore. I’m sure JT knows this too.

  19. Captain_Starwind

An MVP narrative would be distracting at this point, and to be honest I get the sense Tatum doesn’t care. I’m sure he would be happy with it, but let’s be real, he wants a chip and would 100% rather finals MVP.

  20. PlaceInvaders1

These last 2-3 weeks he’s been arguably the best player in ball. His scoring, defense, passing, and rebounding has been world class.

However, even as a biased Celtics fan, he needs to average 35 for like the next month if he wants to even sniff the top 3. It’s just hard to justify putting him over Jokic, Luka, Shai or Giannis and I even hate the way Luka plays lol. It’s much easier to argue that those guys are more valuable to their teams than Tatum is.

That’s not to say Tatum isn’t the most important piece on this team, and if he gets hurt our title chances are over, but playing with 2-4 other all stars it’s hard to argue he’s “more valuable” to his team than Luka, Jokic, or Shai.
(depending on how you define all stars obviously. JB obviously but I’d say KP is also an all star level player, Jrue was an all star last year, and White was the 3rd closest Celtic to the game this year)

TLDR: his team is too good so his stats don’t compare close enough to the top 3 guys to really argue his case. And because those guys stats are other worldly and they’re viewed as “the only guy” on their teams while Tatum is viewed as one of the many pieces. (hyperbole but like Jokic and Jamal or Luka and Kyrie isn’t exactly as amazing as JT, JB, KP, DW, JH lol)

  21. KokeyManiago

    Nikola Jokic:

    26.0 PPG

    12.1 RPG

    9.1 APG

    65% TS%

  22. Feature_Failure

He’s going to get one eventually. Hope the focus remains on the real prize.
