Why are so many redditors against gambling? Such an odd stance to have, imo. And I don’t even gamble.

I was at the Knicks game yesterday and the guy next to me would ONLY talk about his parlay hits. Like the Knicks are getting killed rn why do u care about Derrick White 3’s

Getting rid of these companies is what we SHOULD be using our defense budget for, not propping up Israel

Surprising how many people are against people having personal choices on what they can do with their money.
I get the incredible opportunity for sketchy behavior so why not govern that instead of bob putting 50 bucks on a game? Make it a criminal offense for players, coaches and officials to bet on sports if you want to curb the appeal to bend the rules

This is after winning a play in game right?

Gambling being involved in sports has incredible drawbacks on all facets of the game. If you ever need a concentrated list here’s one:
1) Very vulnerable to fixing games — Refs, Coaches, and Players are all able to make huge bets for huge payouts in games they have direct influence in
2) Erosion of Fan-Player interactions — the level of posts I see of fans shouting aggressively at players that they need to hit the over is borderline insane.
3) Youth Perception — The NBA is a very popular org amongst youth. If you grow up surrounded by people accepting something, you tend to learn to accept it too. This is a long term move by gambling companies to generate a fresh new batch of degenerate gamblers.
4) Brand perception — The NBA has already started to lean HARD into gambling being most of their identity and it’s causing a huge rift in the viewer base. You cannot watch a pre/post-game analysis without the over/under getting mentioned it’s abominable. Also with possible corrupt officiating, the NBA is losing credibility every year they don’t fix things.
tl;dr gambling is poisonous to the league and predatory to its viewership, it’s going to leave a long lasting imprint on the game and not in a good way
