He isn’t the cone every wants you to believe he is. The first Celtics matchup earlier in the season, I saw both Tatum and Brown try to take him in iso and ended up having to pass out of it. He’s definitely had his lapses and games were he looks disinterested (definitely deserving of criticism), but he’s no cone; which makes it more deserving of criticism when he doesn’t give the effort on that end.

Funny thing is early in Dame’s career one of his plus points was his athleticism and competitiveness on the defensive end. I remember Terry Stotts put him on Kobe his rookie year and Kobe after the game saying “that boy serious” and complementing his effort on both ends. The issue happened once LMA left and he had to expend so much effort on the offensive end. He also has been dealing with core muscle injuries since 2017, and that has affected his defensive ability as well.

I don’t know if you guys have realized yet, but Dame really prides himself on the occasional time he has to defend someone in the post, he’s got a really strong lower body so it’s kinda difficult to back him down

I noticed this during the Wolves game as well, he’s playing wayyyy better defense compared to pre all star break

Defense has a lot to do with mentality like a lot of pros say and we can see it here. Hopefully Giannis stopped coddling him and everyone in the organization is being held accountable. Except Doc lol.
