What does Kerr’s extension mean for Warriors’ future? HE DESERVES MORE! – Bob Myers | NBA Countdown

I do want to get to some news out of the Western Conference here because you reported late yesterday wo that Steve Kerr the head coach of the Golden State Warriors agreed to a contract extension what are the details of that contract and why did it happen now yeah Malik uh

Two-year contract extension $35 million I was told by his agents at priority Sports uh Kerr’s deal was set to expire in this off season that lines him up now with a two years left on Steph Curry’s contract 17.5 million a record per season for a coach Greg papovich makes

More but he’s also the team president and I think the timing of it this was not an organization I don’t think Steve Kerr was a coach who wanted to go into the off season with this hanging over them they’ve been working at this for months really on and off really even to

Last year I think when Golden State didn’t get a deal done with the gentleman to my left here I think it was even more Paramount for them to get this deal done with Steve Kerr solidify their leadership now with Mike dun leevy Jr then their general manager and now the

You know the Warriors hold on to their four-time Championship coach Steve Kerr uh and again stays on the contractual timeline of Steph Curry pH I mean really real leadership in Golden State just kid why can’t I get on some of the highlights with curry we I work at ESPN

We decide those highlights there’s pictures of videos of me hugging cerr you know where you know I couldn’t get on it was all it scrubbed appar yeah what’s the problem oh there we go there we go there there there it is see I look the same I look the same see what

Coaching you know Steve is coaching his heart that’s why he gets the 17 million a year he gets 17 million a year you would have paid him that that that as well you would have front row seat to this this partnership between him and Steph Curry now of course we’re seeing

The Golden State words there you go now we got some video for you we’ve seen this partnership continue take new twists and turns this season as they’ve changed their starting lineup Bob but this is the first time we’ve gotten to hear your thoughts on Steve’s extension

No he deserves it he’s not I mean what four titles um I just remember when I we hired Steve as a group going through that first year of that Championship to be next to someone that had been there as a player and that can command a room

Because that team you remember how young Curry was and how young Draymond was and Clay Iguodala was really the veteran and Boga to some degree but mostly Iguodala was leading that team people forget obviously he won the uh the MVP of the finals that year but but Steve shephered

The team in a way where he had said guys this is going to be the hardest thing you ever do but I’ve done he knew it he did it it’s not we can say all those things but a player as a player to say that to other players meant so much and

For me to be a young GM and be able to watch him kind of lead that team do a title and then three more later was um you know I’m forever grateful I hope I wish you got 50 million a year have adversity validates everybody when you

Succeed and I remember when he took over the job some of us obviously thought about the job that Mark Jackson did Steve ker comes up in there does an outstanding job immediately wins championships there is no question he is one of the top five greatest coaches in

The history of basketball and when you see the money being doled out there for the plethora of coaches that have received them there is no question that he absolutely positively deserves it and last but not least let’s applaud his Brilliance in terms of him following the model of Phil Jackson just like Phil

Jackson didn’t want to coach any if it wasn’t MJ Scotti pipp and Kobe Brown and Shaquille O’Neal okay Steve KT don’t want to coach decision making he said no to the Knicks when they were at the bottom of but that that that was easy because Dolan tically didn’t want to pay

Him didn’t want to pay him the money in the years that golden state was willing to give him don’t get me started with that we do that off the year we don’t do it on the cuz I can tell you that whole story want that whole story

Going in the break I don’t need [Applause] [Applause] that

NBA Countdown’s Stephen A. Smith, Malika Andrews, Adrian Wojnarowski, Michael Wilbon and Bob Myers discuss Steve Kerr’s 2 year/$35 million extension with the Golden State Warriors.

  1. Mark Jackson just didn’t get along with management and that was the reason he was fired. Now, Kerr has took the franchise to the next level with a ball movement offense and having guys like Steph and Klay and of course KD helps in winning those titles. He deserves it. Plus, they are now the most valuable franchise in the NBA because of the success and with a new arena and playing in a major market.

  2. of course Stephen Smith always mentioned Mark Jackson name when they have to discuss Steve Kerr success. Mark Jackson is useless and no accomplisement in the NBA.

  3. Warriors DYNASTY END last season 😛😝😝😝😝😛😜😝😛😝😝😝😛😜😝😛😜😝😜😝😛😜😝😜😝😛😝😝😛😜😝😛😝😝😛😜😝😜😛😜😜😝😛😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😛😜

  4. Bob Myers came in, same as Kerr when it was built by previous mgmt drafts/development, and Mark Jackson. Benefited from luck of salary cap explosion, low Curry contract due to injuries, to sign Draymond. And they single handedly brings it down by not drafting and developing. Steven A stop, too 5???? Hasn’t won’t without Steph and Klay. When they don’t have either, they’ve lost and lost badly

  5. WOW, Hey Steve now you know what Barry Switzer feels like to win with somebody else team. He won with Jimmie Johnsons Cowboy team and you a fake winning coach with Mark Jacksons Warrior team. You were an average player on a superstar bulls team and you're an average coach of a superstar team. Go build your own team and lets see what you do. 🙄🙄🙄

  6. Why did they not keep Mark Jackson. Did they let him go because lacob's son did not get along with him and tha
    t caused a problem?

  7. Everybody's excited, the warriors are on a roll, Kerr for two more years. The roll has been against weak teams, including the Lakers without LeBron. Let's see what happens tonight against the Mavs, the last time the Warriors played a real team they ended up blowing a big lead. Then I'll see how much Kerr deserves big money. I really want them to win against the Mavs, but I want to see Kerr finally do his job properly. Bring on the Trolls.

  8. And No One Remembers Mark Jackson built this team, and got no chance to finish the job, in part because of Bob Myers!!

  9. We're in the Age off the International Big. Kuminga has been a revelation for Golden State, but standing at 6'7 there's only so much he can do against Porzingis, KAT, Jokic, Giannis, Embiid, and others.
Small ball has run it's course. Golden State should focus on acquiring Zach Edey this summer.

  10. Kerr did nothing for the warriors and yet he deserves more money smdh after all that caoch mark Jackson done for this team they still want to credit someone with the connection because of his complexion
