Kyrie Irving, Jason Kidd | Mavericks vs. Pacers postgame 2.25.24
All was on our Indiana and shoot 56%. 38 C I took, but it’s definitely difficult. Um, yeah, I don’t think we, uh, definitely difficult. Um, just because when they’re playing with that high level of pace and, uh, they’re making shots and they’re making a scramble, putting us in scramble mode
Defensively. Uh, they took full advantage of it and they made shots tonight. So you gotta give them credit. Uh, they were prepared for us today and they made adjustments, uh, from the beginning of the game to the end of the game. So we just got
Take care of the basketball and also, uh, just be ready to be hunted. You know, a lot of teams are coming after us. Um, you kind of see the, the press, um, or the media, uh, calling us legitimate contenders.
I don’t think it’s our time right now to be listening to all that noise, we just got to focus on one game at a time and, uh, just get ready for what’s ahead of us. You know, a lot of teams are gonna be playing their best basketball and, um,
This is that test for us in the season, you went, you went on a run that gonna be quality. What happened after it seemed like they just attack like that. Uh, yeah, we, it was, uh, you know,
We were down by four at that point and then they came out of the time out and they, and they hit us in the mouth again and they hit a few threes and, uh, from a few guys that, um, you know, we probably need to run off the line, especially at home.
They play extremely well at home and, um, you look at their record and, uh, and, um, I think the facts speak for themselves. So tonight, you know, Tyrese wasn’t really the, the main initiator, um, or, you know, the main one of the main scorers,
But he did a good job of running the offense and those guys from the bench came in were playing with a good rhythm, you know, Benedict Ma and hit some good hesitation threes. Um So the little things really beat us tonight,
Do you think in any way this could be a learning situation for you guys? I mean, yeah, I think, you know, we could, we always try to learn something that wins and losses, but when we have road games like this where we don’t play as well as we would like,
Or we don’t have the energy particularly that, um, is required to, you know, withstand a few runs from home away teams. Or, you know, and tonight we couldn’t withstand Indiana’s run after they, um were, you know, up by four and then all of a sudden they started creating that,
That separation, which a lot of good teams in our league do. So I give credit to them. Uh, while also just being aware that still a young group, still a new developing group. Yes, it’s good to go on a win streak and have that success.
But it doesn’t mean shit in the regular season, you know, until we get later down the line and, you know, we’re aware of what our seating is. Um that’s a different uh mind mindset mentality. But right now it’s just about incremental progression and taking it game by game.
You know, it’s not any time to hold our head, but we’re well aware of the things we gotta work on and, and consistently do to be a good team this week. Yeah. No. Shout out to JB. It’s one of my tribal brothers. Um We’ve been close for the last few years.
Uh And I was just grateful that he took that opportunity to showcase the, the kai one you know, such a selfless act. Um And, and he’s such a AAA good brother. Um that is about the revolution. So I, I shout out to him and
Um I told him that if they were comfortable wearing for the game, if not, you know, just kinda, you know, put him to the side and I know he had some other uh shoes that were ready too. Uh So you never know what happened in the future with us.
But uh I’m glad that he initiated that and made that happen. Uh Me and my tribe are extremely happy. So shout out to JB, I don’t think it’s difficult. Um If you’re playing with the intention to stop them from scoring 30 I, I think at times they, they got out in transition,
They capitalized off our turnovers and took full advantage of our mistakes. Yeah, I thought again on the road, we get it, we cut it to four. We’re, we’re in a good seat, um, defensively, uh we started to give a little bit better effort, um and give them credit. They were making shots tonight.
Um But then on the offensive end, we, we just couldn’t throw it in the ocean. Um We had a couple of bad shots that, um took away, you know, some of the energy, but we’ll learn from it. We’ll watch this and, uh, and we’ll get better tomorrow.
Uh We have another, another good team. We got, you know, face in Cleveland, but just being able to execute, you know, uh understanding when you’re be behind, you have to, you know, get the best shot and, uh, we’ll, we’ll look at that and, uh,
And make sure again when Kyle is going like that, he’s got to be able to touch the ball and be able to make the decision. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, we had 15 assists the lowest of the season. And so
I think we got to look at that and, and understand we got to move the ball. Um I thought Ky and Luca got great looks tonight. Um, again, Kyle in the fourth gets going. Um, we got to get the, the ball’s gotta be in his hands, uh,
Going down the stretch there just to make sure, especially with Luca out that, uh, he’s getting the shot or he’s making the play for someone else. Um, again, you know, uh, Luca was getting great looks. Uh, Kyle was getting good looks and we had some turnovers
In transition too that we just normally haven’t had. And so we gotta be better with the ball too. We had some turnovers there that we normally don’t have. Yeah, you know, especially on the break, we get to stop and, you know, we,
We throw it away on the break and then they come back and, and make a three or, or get a lay up. And so, uh, we, we gotta be better with the ball, um, understanding, uh, just, uh, you know, being, uh, hunted now, you know, when you win seven in a row,
Being on the other side of the team that’s hunting. Uh, now teams are gonna, you know, try to win every possession we, and if for us to be one of the elite teams. We have to understand that and handle that better. You obviously have two elite scores.
No, I think it’s better when you have, uh, you know, four or five guys who can go who, you know, um, understand PJ had great looks tonight. Uh, I thought Josh had good looks. Uh, Timmy has had good looks.
Um, you know, we might have to try to get him, you know, better looks but he’s had some looks that just didn’t, haven’t gone down here of late. We got, you know, get him going. Uh, but he’s been one of the guys that scored for us.
Uh Josh is scoring and so again PJ, Josh or D live or, or Gaff or centers, uh, you know, being able to play the pick and roll and get the lob or offensive rebounds for those guys too. Yeah. Is that a case of you, the two big, two big guys, maybe they’re not
Used to. Yeah, I think, uh Hallen Burton causes a problem, you know, driving, you’re trying to protect the rim. Uh, he does a great job of finding or dumping off. But I thought, uh, when you look at Turner and his ability to short roll or when someone drives, he,
He kind of, you know, finds his way at the top of the key or at the top of the three point line and he was wide open tonight and so we have to be better. Yeah, they’re good. You know, and, uh, again, with their pace and being able to drive it,
Put it on the floor, you have, you know, four guys out there who can definitely drive it and, and cause a problem. So, um, this will be, uh, something that we look at, you know, we don’t face this a lot of times.
So this is a good test for our defense and we know we can be better. Um, but tonight, our offense, you know, didn’t, didn’t capitalize on a lot of opportunities.
Myles Turner scored a season-high 33 points, Tyrese Haliburton added 17 points and 10 assists and the Indiana Pacers beat Dallas 133-111 on Feb. 26, 2024, to snap the Mavericks’ Western Conference-best seven-game winning streak.
Luka Doncic finished with 33 points, six assists and six rebounds for the Mavericks, who shot 47% from the field but allowed Indiana to shoot 56% and make 14 3-pointers. Kyrie Irving had 29 points and six rebounds for Dallas.
“The whole game for us was about our edge, our competitiveness,” said Pacers coach Rick Carlisle, who had a 13-year coaching tenure with the Mavericks. “We just wanted to stay aggressive and not look at the scoreboard, just play our game. You’re never going to have an easy game against a team like Dallas.”
Back-to-back 3-pointers from Andrew Nembhard and Haliburton broke it open midway through the fourth quarter, pushing the Pacers in front 120-102. Dallas, which was within four earlier in the final period, later trailed by as many as 22.
“Give them credit,” Dallas coach Jason Kidd said. “They were making shots. We’ll learn from it. We had 15 assists, the lowest of the season. Haliburton caused us a problem driving. Turner, he kind of finds his way to top of the key or the 3-point line. He was wide open, so we have to do better.”
Nembhard and Ben Sheppard scored 15 apiece for Indiana, which has won three in a row to bolster its tenuous hold on sixth place in the East. Bennedict Mathurin added 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
Doncic, who leads the league with an average of 34.3 points per game this season, had 25 in the first half in a matchup against the league’s highest-scoring team. Indiana entered averaging 123.8 points per game.
Neither side led by more than eight in a first half that ended with Indiana ahead 67-60. It was tied at 32 at the end of the first quarter. The Pacers carried a 100-91 lead to the fourth.
