So yeah, the boys have still some issues. I guess.

Oh yeah this game will be used as film on both sides of whoever the Cavs play in the playoffs.

If this were a pattern I’d be more concerned but overall our team rebounding and Allen specifically have been really good this year. We’re 7th in rebounding and Allen is 11th in rpg. This is after almost being dead last last year in team rebounding. I think yesterday was Allen’s worst game of the year. Team rebounding has clearly been a point of emphasis this year after that knicks series and it looks sooo much better than last year. A one off against a good rebounding team on day 2 of a back to back… eh it happens.

Edit: I know the narrative of we get bullied by big strong bigs is out there so I looked up some rebounding stats against teams that fit that bill. In our games against the Kings, Bucks (with Giannis), Celtics, Lakers, 76ers (with Embiid), Knicks, and Nuggets, these are the average rebounds per game:

    Cavs 43 – Opponents 44

Granted, most of these games were also missing either Mobley or Allen, our two best rebounders. I know this narrative stems from the knicks series last year and I’ve been preaching all year that the rebounding discrepancy in that series was a result of poor team rebounding, not our bigs. So some numbers from that series:

    Total rebounds:

    Robinson – 49

    Hartenstein – 27

    Hart – 39

    Randle – 32

    Brunson – 21

    =============

    Mobley – 50

    Allen – 37

    Mitchell – 25

    LeVert – 23

    Garland – 9

Our bigs out rebounded theirs by a solid amount, but our back court got absolutely out played on the glass time and time again. This is why I started my original comment with talking about team rebounding, because that was a massive hole in our game last year. I think JB has done a really good job of addressing that issue and getting all of our players to buy into good team rebounding.

Biggest issue is is that this has been a reoccurring theme the past 3 years. Bad rebounding along with blown leads due to our starters getting tired and below average free throw percentages.

    Starts with the coach right?

I feel like this will improve when TT comes back. He does well against the bigger bigs in the league

  5. hartysparty

Allen and Mobley struggle against bigger centers. It’s been a theme the last few seasons and the reason we lost to the knicks. They need to figure it out

  6. DjReeseCup

Yeah we need TT back ASAP. Hopefully he’s still the same without the PEDs lol

  7. I’ve not watched a ton of Cavs games being out of market. But every single game I watch, it’s maddening how the second a shot goes up, we vacate the paint. Growing up as a 4/5, that’s blasphemous.

  8. Pretty disappointing game given how good they’ve been on the boards. I hope it’s a wake up call.

  9. Diligent-Contact-772

Absolutely humiliating as rebounding is 25% technique and 75% effort!

  10. NukeRussiaV4

    Cavs have no clutch.

Mobley and Allen need a proper bulk…you boys can’t be afraid to lose the high school abs

  11. PhatBussy666

IMHO the bulls just wanted it more. We didn’t look/play like we wanted it more than them and it showed. Ofc not downplaying that our guys were tired playing a double OT in a doubleheader but so were the bulls so it’s just not really an excuse. Again, in my very, VERY humble opinion lol

  12. Unfair-Club8243

To be fair Drummond sonned Gobert about a month ago. Drummond is highly underrated / underutilized as a center for the bulls, he can still fill that role at a high level

  13. nickpapa88

This is why Tristan was brought in — he would have played big minutes last night and helped stop the rebounding bleeding. Unfortunately he’s still suspended but it’s not all doom & gloom. There is a reason the Bulls are a bad team massive size inside is just a bad matchup for Allen/Mobley.

  14. KovuBrutus22

Yeah you can’t win with a PG shooting 8-22

  15. barkinginthestreet

Allen wasn’t good at anything last night, but there was a ton of ball-watching by the smaller players outside of Caris. We need more guys to crash when we’re playing small lineups.

  16. coolbabyjoe

JB shrinks when the pressures on. He’s an anvil around this teams neck. I’m fine with the downvotes that I’m sure are coming, but it’s reality.

  17. Forty_Six_and_Two

It didn’t hurt that Drummond came out of his coffin to have the best game he’s had in years. Without that happening, this game would have been over early.

  18. bong_pullz_4_jesus

These thing happen when you run a 9 man rotation in the second game of a back to back especially one that went down to the wire like the Dallas game.

  19. Namaste421

Eh, I wouldn’t put much weight into this. Tough to play on the road after a super emotional win like over the Mavs

  20. willgolf4_food

And yet somehow people are still trying to scapegoat Garland for it. If you believe this loss was on Garland, please return to licking Watson’s jockstrap clean.

  21. blackestice

I’m hoping inserting Tristan Thompson into the lineup will help with this. That’s what he’s built for at least

  22. lagrange_james_d23dt

That was seriously embarrassing, but I was happy to see Garland play better at least

  23. Dmoney1122

And we still should’ve won if JB could coach

  24. Ok_Equivalent1592

It’s wild to be so incredibly doomer when we could very clearly see the team was just gassed to hell last night. Probably going to be a rough night tomorrow after the 2OT last night. Give them time torecover and finish getting healthy again.

  25. Intimateworkaround

Need a new coach man. The team does not feel like it’s progressed to where it should be since they broke out in 21-22. Yes we’re in second but how much of that improvement has come from simply adding Don? Our long win streak was against mostly bad teams and we’re still not good against above .500 teams. Something needs to change

  26. x4candles

We were out rebounded, so what, it happens. It was the 2nd game of a back to back where Dallas gave us a run of a game. Then they had to leave immediately and go to Chicago. The Bulls style of play absolutely wore us down. They consistently shot the ball with < 5 seconds on the shot clock, took bad shots, and hustled for rebounds. They outplayed us and the foul at the end of OT to give them 3 free throws didnt help. On to the next game.

  27. TheSmokedSalmon420

That’s because we don’t have bigs – we have talls.

  28. riverman1089

If anything this continues to show how badly the Cavs need TT’s physicality back (which is something I can’t believe I’m saying in 2024). I hope he’s still got some juice left in the nasty tank (pun intended) when he gets back, at least enough to put up 12-18 minutes a night of just beating up the other teams’ big men.

  29. 6BakerBaker6

This is how the Cavs will get embarrassed in the playoffs again.
