Too early to call Denver dominant, Bucks need to find chemistry, on Wemby’s impact | NBA | THE HERD

Sam amch is having to put up with his nonsense he’s a legitimate writer for the athletic senior NBA writer I’m sorry I’m exhausted Sam it’s an exhausting job putting up with this nonsense listen man as you know Colin I I’m here in Northern California if you

Want me to get some Niner fan neighbors to come way in I could do that speaking J give love man give Brock some love so I I want to talk about this because you just wrote about the Warriors and one of the things we’ve talked about recently

Sam right for the athletic is that usually post Jordan Bulls are awful for three years post Duncan it’s really hard LeBron leaves the heatles there’s always this reboot where you’re bad you get better draft picks and you start over the Warriors are in this interesting situation where the rookie pods can push

Clay to the bench where klay’s a great bench player kuminga now is flourishing um Steph still great great draymond’s playing some ball and Wiggins has kind of figured it out he was choppy early pretty good and I look at the Warriors so you recently wrote about

This this is hard Legends to the bench Steve Kerr Klay Tom were they worried at all that it was just going to implode the locker room were they concerned yes I think the answer is yes Clay’s an intense intense individual uh I think there was frustration right at

The gate when they made the choice you know I I Strangely I give a hat tip to Andre Iguodala if you go back to 2014 which is a lifetime ago Andre makes that choice to go to the six-man role Steve cerr convinces him that sets the culture for

The Warriors clay was part of that and you know from then until now they have had a culture of sacrifice that Clay is now having to live up to uh but yeah I think they were worried because he’s a proud dude he fought like hell for two

Years to come back from the ACL the Achilles we we’ve seen earlier this season these moments vulnerability where he shares with the world how hard it is to not be the guy that you were before and then you come out I guess right before the All-Star break they tell you

Hey you know what do you think about the six-man route uh I think they were worried for sure yeah the um you know they don’t match up terribly well with Denver but nobody matched up with Duncan in the Spurs for about 12 years I said this I don’t know if it’s good for

Ratings I don’t really care about that I we don’t have the NBA at Fox I don’t care I like watching playoff basketball but when I watch Denver in a league where we always talk about mobility and Allstars they’ve had one Allstar in Forever joic they are perfectly constructed between length IQ perimeter

Bench scoring I I I’m okay saying this when I watch them dismantle people when they really Zone in I think we’re looking at for the next three to four years the best basketball team arguably since the Spurs and Duncan I mean I think I think they’re better than the

Heedles I really do and I may be over my skis on this how are they viewed with your sources in the league how is Denver viewed it’s like somewhere you know it’s right they’re not dominant that’s the thing they they’re respected they are you know feared to an extent but they’re

Not dominant uh if I’m being honest last week I’m in the Warriers locker room and I had a casual conversation with Draymond about this now listen we know the way he’s wired yeah and he made the point that LE wide that they’re not afraid of anybody you know and and he

Has done given nothing but love for Joker recently has a lot of respect for him but I brought up Boston and porzingis and he was kind of poop pulling what they’re doing so the Fear Factor is not there but Denver I think they changed last year when they won

That thing in June they are wired differently now they are you know as d as anybody so could I see them winning the whole thing again I could you know Boston to me you know is is obviously at the top of that conversation especially with their story and their journey of

Falling short two years ago uh poor zingus I think is in the middle of that discussion he’s never been part of a team like this but Denver I mean Joe is absurd Jamal Murray like I wrote last week might be the best guy in the history of the game who’s never been an

All-Star yeah their chemistry inable they lost some depth in the summer as you know and and that remains a question but uh but yeah they’re right there you know it’s really interesting when Drew Holliday went to the Celtics I remember being on that day and saying he’s a much

Better offensive version than Marcus Smart who I thought was a good player but sort of had served his purpose and I thought but I had no idea and I everybody loves Drew he’s one of the more respected guys leag I had no idea that he was going to leave this this

Hole in Milwaukee I mean cuz Dame’s such a great perimeter score are you surprised are people in the league surprised that Drew I mean it’s it’s a lot of the same pieces Dame for Drew and Milwaukee doesn’t feel and look quite right are you surprised by

That I’m not stunned I mean did I think Dame and Giannis was going to work better than it has yes but I I feel like we have learned for so long now that you know the simplistic star power perspective in terms of you know take

This guy and that guy put him in a pot and it’s magic is just more often than not that’s not how things go and I was around the old bucks teams a lot and I saw the value that Drew brought every single night and I was there covering

The finals when they beat Phoenix and Drew holiday is right there with Giannis as an MVP candidate with in terms of big moments um you know it was a very very nuanced trade the decision by Milwaukee to go after after Dame Lillard because

You you know you let go of a guy in Drew who was was part of what they accomplished and was still playing at a high level so um you know we’ll see where it goes doc I think has had a good influence so far coaching wise their

Defense has gotten a little bit better but the uh you know that relationship Giannis and Dame and and finding chemistry has been pretty challenging so LeBron Paul George won’t play tonight Lakers Clippers play tonight I think Nicks Warriors is tomorrow so it’s been a very good week um you know I saw a

Story yesterday Brian wior said LeBron’s going to sign an extension it’s going to be you know 50 60 million whatever it is and I said you know LeBron takes so much oxygen out of the room there’s only been four guys in my opinion since the 80s

Who have been the face of the league where they were the best player for several years and they leaned into it uh and I think that is Magic Michael Shaq and LeBron um I never felt Kobe for an extended period was best player in the league he always felt a little MJ light

Plus Shaq was so so magnificently interesting his size his he even shrunk Kobe a little um so and I think to myself LeBron Still Remains the face of the league to a lot of people International Players don’t necessarily seek the spotlight they don’t lean into

It do you think um what do you think LeBron and the Lakers I don’t think they’re moving off him but how viable is he on the market I mean what do you make of him and the Lakers if he would do you think they’d sign him to a three-year

Deal a four-year deal what is his future in this league so I believe and hopefully I think I’m accurate on this he’s actually capped out at a three-year deal because of the over 38 rule so you know there’s a limitation there in terms of how long

The contract can be uh Market wise you know listen I wrote last month about his flirtations in New York when he was sending all these passive aggressive signs that he might be unhappy with the Lakers and wearing Nix colored shoes and things like that but then immediately

You’re reporting okay by the way the Knicks had not spoken about him internally he’s not in their plans um you know Dallas is a team that in the past has you know internally shown some interest in and you know maybe going down the LeBron road but now I think

With Luca and Kyrie that’s a different calculus uh it is a really unique situation because he’s LeBron like you said face of the league maybe the greatest player ever but the market I don’t think would be all that robust uh and I think that’s why he looks at the

Lakers and knows my family’s here the market entertainment wise business-wise is what I want the Lakers need star power they don’t want to come off him uh it’s a little bit of a marriage of convenience that that like Brian wior has said I do expect to continue most

Likely yeah hey finally um we we’ve been talking about this for the last I would say three or four days uh wem’s got a little s buy a little a little old school George gerin the length uh his sort of he’s got this sort of delicate touch around the basket but can play

With power he’s a combination of a lot of people but again these international players come over here Sam and they are all business they they want sleep practice they it’s the reality is when when you travel if I travel overseas I’m not ad libing I’ve got a schedule I

Stick to it I do what I do these kids come over they are all basketball all business and I don’t know I I knew he would be good I think he’s better offensively I knew he would block shots I think he’s a little better offensively than I thought he would be Chad holgren

Also with his length is better offensively than I thought early what are you hearing about wemy around the league you know it’s people are amazed people are he’s living up to the hype now personally I just I I do struggle with the idea and maybe this is the

Inevitable kind of backside of all that hype is that I thought he’d be able to come in and have more of a LeBron type impact on winning you know what I mean and you see the guy the guy coaching him on the sideline of course is is nothing

But a winner uh and I am surprised at how bad they have been collectively I know the roster you know not the but they they just have struggled all year long and I actually think the next five six weeks are going to be interesting in the Rookie of the Year race you know

Halfway through the year I had Chad winning it now it feels like if you vote for Chad over wemy you’re getting it wrong in terms of the narrative yeah um because he has been that good individually but my God chett is an incredibly important player on a team

That might win the way yes um but wemy great you know his personality is fantastic in terms of media such a bright guy like you said he talks about going to bed at 9:30 at night and putting his phone on by the way I should interject real

Quickly I think Luca is one of the outliers in terms of international guys I Luka likes to get after a little bit Yeah and has fun but but yeah I mean he’s been great you know and you you talk about a ceiling this guy doesn’t

Have one and I can’t wait to see what’s next with him hi everybody it’s me Uncle Colin subscribe here to get the latest from the herd including exclusive behind the scenes videos and more wherever you may be however ever you may be watching thanks again for making us part of your day

The fear factor for the Denver Nuggets is not there according to Sam Amick, who joins Colin Cowherd on The Herd to talk the latest NBA news. While Colin’s pretty big on Nikola Jokić’s team, Amick says players like Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors isn’t sweating the Nuggets. Speaking of the Warriors, Amick talks their resurgence after the return of Draymond, and decides how far Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard can take this Milwaukee Bucks team, and whether Doc Rivers has had a good influence. Finally, Amick tells Colin how viable LeBron James is on the market, and what he expects to see from Victor Wembanyama.

  1. Kobe was never the face of the league? Dear god do people just say random words? He was so much better than the next best player that there wasn’t one. This is almost as stupid as his “big men don’t count in the goat conversation” take

  2. The Nuggets have one ring. It's premature to put them in the discussion with the Heat, who went to 4 straight finals winning 2, or the Warriors who won 4.

  3. Shocker a guy from Cali popping on anything San Antonio. Klay says Manu was a huge factor in him accepting coming off the bench, Sam guy doesn't mention it. Then poops on Wemby. Smh.

  4. The one thing Colin got wrong is he called the Nuggets the best team since the Spurs. Completely forgetting about the Warriors teams

  5. Bucks are 3-0 since allstar break. Held the T wolves to 16 in a quarter, held Philly to 13 in a quarter, held Charlotte to a 16 point quarter and a 10 point quarter.

  6. Hahaha they're not afraid of joker because they're in denial. They'll cruise through the playoffs again. Superstars and mobility is weak era talking head propaganda.

  7. Why don't you ever talk about MPJ's elite scorer. In the last 10 games, the elite scorer has historical shooting percentages for 2 and 3 points. Jokic wouldn't be MVP if he didn't have an assist from MPJ's elite scorer

  8. Jrue did not leave the hole. It was Bud. The team culture was centered around a chemistry that Bud had established. I think it’s absolutely wild that people credit the difficulties to holiday. Dude was there for three years. Giannis and khris have been there for 11. Brook and Bobby have been there for five or six. Pat has been there for five. Nope. Holiday is not responsible

  9. I don’t get how people don’t realize spurs are trying to tank and have no incentive to win games yet lol

  10. So ur telling me Kobe Bryant was never the face of the league in 08? 09? 2010 when the lakers won back to back championships?? Okay Collin

  11. Bro wrote up his analysis on the Bucks before the All-star break and only watches box scores

  12. If the Bucks had somehow been able to trade Middleton over Holiday (which never would have happened)… man the Bucks would be at the top right now.

  13. This warriors Homer response to the denver question was deeply unsatisfying. Guy’s like cardboard . Drink some green tea and energize your takes.

  14. So the bucks blowout the hornets by 40!! The topic is the bucks don’t look the same because jrue isn’t there ??? Why are y’all so obsessed with bringing up jrue holiday like we didn’t just win by a large margin and the defense is looking back to normal

  15. I don’t think these media guys actually watch the bucks. They just saw fired coach and hired Doc and ran with these narratives without intending to ever actually watch the team.

  16. I am not taking anything away from Holiday but it wasn't that The Bucks traded him , they also traded the other two best 2 way guards in Allen and Mathews that were on the team as well. Again Jrue is a great player , everyone knows it , that is why it didn't cost that much more then him to get Dame. If you Haven't , watch The Bucks now after all-star break , they have been getting better and better on defense , the roster is way better figured out as well. Boston is still better and The Heat can always come out of nowhere so yeah we will see. I do think The Bucks could handle Nuggets though , they match up very well together , Jokic's slow-ish pace ( just his play style of slowing things down then speeding up real quick) allows Brook to be able to guard him well with Giannis floating around , like I said though will see.

  17. Klay not intense… He's sensitive.. emotional.. not good at expressing himself in stressful situations

  18. LeBron played like 46 minutes a game as a rookie and they have comparable offensive stats and wemby has way better defensive stats , why do people act like rookie bron was already the best player in the league

  19. BS, the Bucks had the #1 defense for 2 years in a row before Jure. When Jure got there, they dropped to #14. They are #10 in defense right now without him. This narrative needs to stop. Get your shots in while you can. Bucks are winning it all. Jure never showed up when you needed him. Giannis had to carry him. Dame will show up (Dame time)

  20. Holiday only averages 5 less points then dame plus less injury prone better defender Milwaukee got worse. Oh and firing champion coach makes no sense
