Darius Garland Is Back! (It’s Cavalier Podcast), Cleveland Cavaliers, Cavs News
Oh Welcome to another edition of the its Cavalier podcast it’s your boy Mac and tonight our C Cavaliers took on the Detroit Pistons for the fourth and thankfully last time this season where a series sweep was up for grabs the second time in the Cap’s last two games that
They had the opportunity to bring out the proverbial broom against an opponent and where they failed in Chicago they succeeded tonight against the Detroit Pistons team that has only picked up nine victories this season and from the very jump the Cleveland Cavaliers seemed determined to go out there and punch
Their opponent in the mouth as they scored the contest first 11 points looking very very confident in doing so hell Detroit didn’t even get on the board until Isaiah Stewart be stew as you all know him and love him knocked down a triple from the left corner the
Game was mostly all Cleveland though as the Cavs would end up outscoring Detroit 32 to 24 in the first quarter and managed to do much the same in the game’s second and third frames as well before things got a little too close for comfort in my opinion in that fourth
Where Detroit would cut the lead to 10700 at one point bringing the game within an arms length something just I don’t know Cleveland just kind of started going cold down the stretch in that fourth and I’m glad that they were ended able to pull out the victory but
It really really probably would have set things a blaze on social media had they been able to complete a come back thankfully that did not happen as Cleveland would win this game 110 to 100 and seal the deal sweeping Detroit on the season in the process earning them a
Much needed Victory before heading into Sunday’s primee time matchup against those goddamn New York Knicks who continue to be a budding rivalry for this Cavaliers team I’m really looking forward to that match up by the way uh with the exception of that lackluster fourth everything seemed to go the Cavs
Way tonight nearly everything that ailed them in their loss to Chicago was working for them tonight the free throw line uh for for instance a major it issue against the against the Bulls where the team went just 11 of 19 wasn’t a problem tonight as the Cavs would
Knock down 26 of their 30 freebies that is good for 87% folks you’ll love to see it especially coming off a game where they missed some really really key ones uh the the one that really comes to mind obviously is Donovan Mitchell’s uh second free throw Miss of the night in
That first overtime that really could have ended the game but and put them up for but didn’t right he obviously didn’t knock that down um the rebounding Wes something that was really really Troublesome against Chicago I won’t speak on the numbers I’m tired of talking about it but it was bad not
Existent tonight uh as Cleveland won the Battle of the boards 53- 42 with the front Court Duo of Jared Allen and Evan Moy combining for 32 rebounds this was the Cap’s 10th game this season in which they’ve drilled 18 or more triples to korf gears here the three ball was live
It’s the 23rd time they’ve attempted at least 43s and Funk fact this team has a record of 17 and six when they attempt at least 40 triples this year and the mor of the story get the ball up shoot that they’re just seeing seemed to be an emphasis on ball movement and
Perimeter shooting tonight as multiple Cavaliers got in on the action from Isaac aoro and Max stru to Dean Wade and Sam marel the three ball was just dropping for everybody tonight however we absolutely have to talk about the man who led the three-point charge tonight and that was none other than Darius
Canard Garland this man seriously this man was on Fuego tonight ladies and gentlemen and damn it it feels good to say that after all the that people have been talking about him all these bad takes people have been spewing about Darius Garland lately he drilled eight triples by himself tonight that’s the
First time this season that he’s done that and the second time in his career that he’s knocked down at least eight with the other coming against Minnesota last season where he dropped 10 on 15 attempts now the most important number here is the number of attempts he took
He put up 12 more tonight and was aggressive and getting a shot which is exactly what the Cavaliers years and I’m sure fans have wanted all along considering the the discussion around him has largely centered around aggression and uh turnovers right he put up those 12 12 attempts tonight and it’s
Important because it’s a game without Donovan Mitchell who wasn’t active and to see him take it upon himself to kind of shut down you love to see it because people have really been down on DG and people just seem to think that he’s not capable of some of these things
That we’ve seen him do in the past he just he reminded folks just how special he can be out there tonight and he’s really started to play well uh since the All-Star break fun fact Garland has now attempted 46 triples over his last five games that’s 9.2 per game and most
Importantly he’s knocked down 45.7% of him that’s flame-throwing that is absolute flame-throwing efficiency from Beyond The Arc the dude is just letting the thing fly and again he’s doing so really really efficiently which is that that’s got to feel really good for him it’s got to have build his
Confidence back up and it really didn’t matter or he took them off the catch and shoot he was money wild Garland’s back in the ball game he fires a three and knocks it down stepping back cash Darius Garland behind the long line against cage Garland to the Baseline backs to the corner fires
Pulling up off the screens check Garland gets a Jared Allen screen a long longar is DG was truly phenomenal tonight and while I won’t go overboard because after all this is the Detroit Pistons that we’re talking about here again a nine win team although you know
I’m not trying to on them too much because they do have some fun pieces over there but let’s be real here the Detroit Pistons are not exactly in the upper echelon of the Eastern conference uh so say what you will about them I will say that tonight is yet another
Example that he is definitely capable of Allstar level play which I’ve known all along people seem to have just forgotten because of some of these these takes that people have just been letting fly and just constantly on him I never understood it uh dude has been through the ringer this season in terms
Of some of the injuries that he’s had to deal with obviously with the jaw injury being the most jarring one right him to miss a lot of time and it was going to take him some time to get it together and that was the thing that people still
Need to understand is that you don’t just come back and snap back into things especially in a season when you’re kind of already having somewhat of a rough year to begin but the the moral of the story here is that people just got to be patient that is all I’m saying at the
End of the day just have a little patience because come the postseason DG is going to be really really important especially when the defense starts really really honing in on the likes of Donovan Mitchell you’re going to need even more shot creation and Darius Garland can bring that to the Table

3s better but he has to quit driving to the basket and turning the ball over.At 6"1 you dont drive against 7 footers again and again just to get blocked and pounded .This is just going to get him injured again.Idk why he hasnt pulled up short and thrown up more floaters in that situation since hes accurate with those. The team still seems out of synch a bit.
Mobley has got to get with a shooting coach and put up 1,000 3's a day
He has to do this against top teams. I’m not buying the Cavs this playoffs.
DG should run the second unit with Allen or Mobley and be him when he’s not with Spida. Hopefully see more of the deep ball our guards can shoot from far out stretching the floor more. I’d play more backcourt plays starting at the back court to open quasi fast break 3s from DG & Mitchell and keeping the defense guessing warping the floor creating lanes for clean opportunities. Guess that does get going for us, kinda our ingredient to get going on offense to open up the inside, along with a balanced attack from aggressive Mobley and Allen in the front court. Then it all is happening fluidly. We’re going to figure it out, get everyone involved for a complete game. Playoffs gonna be interesting, we got a real dark horse contender. Could be on the brink of a dynasty. Once we get one more young 3&D wing we’re set.
