RJ on the NBA’s REFEREE problem after Knicks’ no-call 🗣️’There’s HUMAN ERROR!’ | NBA Today

Monty Williams none too thrilled about that known call where’s the New York media now the absolute worst call of the Season no call and enough’s enough we’ve we’ve done it the right way we’ve called The League we’ve sent in Clips we’re sick of hearing the same stuff over and

Over again we had a chance to win the game and the guy dove into aar’s legs and there was a no call that that’s an Abomination you cannot miss that in an NBA game period all right so crew chief James Williams had this to say in the pool

Report on this game quote we determin that Thompson gets to the ball first and then was deprived of the opportunity to gain possession of the ball therefore a loose ball foul should have been called and should have been whistled on New York’s Dante dant chenzo so Richard is

There a problem here is there something it needs to be fixed what can be fixed this is this is my thing it’s like something needs to be done we always hear that very very often and it’s like well what can be done here there’s a level of human error and we know that

The referees get graded and then they get upgraded based off their playoff games and the opportunities and the best officials will get the biggest best games and that’s all there can be done every single time a coach comes up here and want yes we get it it’s been going

On since Pat Riley was complaining about the officials and Greg papovich and over the history of the game this is a part of it but to me when it’s like something needs to be done it’s like well Monty you are one of the more intelligent men

In all of the game tell us what needs to be done and the last thing I’ll say about this when a player makes a mistake in a game a coach will defend his players and say hey look you know what that’s not the reason why we lost the

Game we had plenty of opportunities well if you watch the rest of this game as me and my kids were they didn’t box out twice two different times they didn’t box out his team did not box out and they never got the opportunity to get the ball again so whether it was coach

Or his players that weren’t able to move on there were more missed opportunities watch this okay so you made a mistake the referee’s made a mistake let’s see your box out situation oh you didn’t box out you fouled again okay you had to foul then you don’t box out again so

There were multiple mistakes that were made by them yes the foul call that was awful that was it I 100% agree with Monty but Express to us one what needs to be done and two hey Monty your team had other opportunities after that to secure the ball and still couldn’t get

It done first of all deprived of the opportunity to gain possession of the ball congratulations to all the crisis PR officials who stretched language how about speared in the abdomen how about we just go how about we just go with that look I’m just going to be nice number one how about we

Just don’t find Monty Williams he’s right how about we don’t find him number two can you imagine if the Pistons were 5 and 52 instead of 8 and 49 and staring at the possibility of being a nine- win team they should be better than that now

This would be a much bigger deal look it was a horrible call we all know it was a horrible call the NBA admitted it was a horrible call the Knicks were on the other side of this a month two weeks ago hon so karma is a cat or it’s Dante

Dienzo just diving into people and not getting called for it and here we are there’s nothing to do a guy on the chiefs no I don’t you can’t CH you can’t challenge no calls and if you could it’d be a Pandora’s Box stuff happens Kate Cunningham played well though right and

Part of why and Becky knows this part of why Monty reacts that way is he’s sending a message to his team that I’m fighting for you this is a team that you that has been discouraged this season with the kind of year they’ve had the kind of losing that’s taken place their

Historic losing and they’ve got to know their coach has their back and is fighting for them the message to me was as much to his locker room to their fans to their organization as it was to the officials in the league office yeah and I think at the end of the day we’re

Coaches were always going to complain about the officials right this it’s never going to be good enough but the Human air aspect is real nobody likes making mistakes they’re not doing it on purpose um but what gets me is the the no call to the verticality call N1 I’m

Like so you don’t call the tackle and then you call I thought which was pretty good verticality like and and that one you call but at the end of the day we all learned in fifth grade box out the shooter to your point Thank you box out

The twice and they didn’t do that and they just didn’t do that and the next Did

Richard Jefferson, Zach Lowe, Becky Hammon and Adrian Wojnarowski join Malika Andrews on NBA Today to react to the Detroit Pistons’ 113-111 loss to the New York Knicks including a loose-ball foul no-call on the Knicks resulting in the Pistons losing the opportunity for another possession. Postgame, Pistons’ coach Monty Williams publicly disputed the referee’s no-call and stormed out of his press conference.

  1. What monte message is to have referee accountable… error of the player results to lose or something else but in the error of referee results of a loss of the team in the game so where is the accountability of the referee… if the referee have error they will not loss a game they are free to go nothing else…

  2. This was a copout by ESPN because yes, they could have done better but they’re treating this as an isolated incident when in reality, Referees have been f***ing up plays all year and determining games that should not have been determined by them.

  3. Box out point makes no sense cause the game got flipped on its head. It's never easy to rebound in those situations. And they had a chance to go up 3 but instead it went the other way

  4. They didn’t fight for those last two box out possessions cause that no call sucked the fight out of them, had that call went their way the last possession would have came about

  5. Jefferson talking absolute BS non-stop defending the indefeasible. Do your homework Richard. The Pistons were robbed on the last play in literally the game JUST BEFORE THIS ONE – when Banchero travels in front of the whole world, but the refs again don't call it and he hits a shot to win the game. TWO GAMES IN A ROW THE REFS SCREWED THE PISTONS in the last few seconds. Yeah, Richard, we just got to "box out" better. : )

  6. It’s time for AI refs, gents. I’m tired of the human error is part of the game bs. It shouldn’t be. Start using AI in smaller league games and work its way up to the NBA when it’s close to perfected, and call it a day.

  7. Richard Jefferson is a joke for this take he never brought up the biggest problem with these refs the NBA never hold them accountable for bad calls but they fined players and coaches for calling these refs out for there bad calls… this is why Adam silver is weak and is the worst commissioner the NBA has ever had

  8. Still find a way to place blame all on the Pistons boo ESPN boo Richard , this zero accountability train y’all riding is crazy

  9. RJ STFU. Its not Monty's job, or urs for that matter to come up with a solution…its the Billion dollar league's job, sounding like the Company Man. 🤦🏾

  10. To not call a foul on a tackle then call a foul on and and 1 when Duren was inside the circle, and went straight up into the air after the knicks player threw his body into him is an insult to the game what a shame!

  11. The two minute report showed 3 missed calls. 1 was the one Monty complained about, but then the other 2 put the Knicks at a disadvantage… so now how do you feel about having a fair game?? Because it looks like Detroit benefited from 2 missed calls themselves. And Becky Hammon, get some glasses. Duren did not go vertical. Only his arms were vertical. The slo-mo replay clearly shows Duren jumping horizontally into Hart.

  12. What don’t you understand…? If there is a lose ball and people smack each other on the ground for it, it isn’t a foul. If someone has possession and you dive for the floor and hit him, it is a foul. The offense player seemed to have possession for like a micro second then didn’t have possession. This is why it’s a missed call.

I’m sorry yall but it still appears to me like a good call unless possession of the ball extends into the time that the offense player lost the ball..I dunno…if the ball is on the floor, it’s fair game to dive for it.

  13. Bad call yes. But Detroit is 8 and whatever because of Monty, not the refs. They literally suck. Has nothing to do with the refs. Every other team won their 9th game in December. That being said, this is the worst officiating since I started watching the league in the 90s. Officials need to be fined, suspended and potentially fired when they repeatedly make bad calls like this. Maybe there will be some accountability in the referees then….

  14. Richard, Introducing legal gambling has to be met with more accountability for refs. This isn't just the days of oh well, a missed call. Literally hundreds of millions of dollars come down to their getting the calls right in the final 2 minutes of a close game.

  15. Refs are never going to get all the calls, that's just a fact. If i remember correctly it might have been Magic or Bird, one of the old school guys that said play well enough to remove the refs from the equation. That way, those bad or missed calls, would be irrelevant to the outcome.

  16. Everyone skrt'n the issue at hand. It's very simply, raise the ref standards, define clear lines of what a foul is. Refs should not be able to dictate the outcome of a game.

  17. Love RJ’s take. The Pistons had many missed opportunities. Don’t blame your horrible record and loss on 1 play. That’s not the only missed call for that Knicks game. That’s basketball.

  18. you're up a point, you steal the ball, you grab the ball, you hold the ball…why are you trying to dribble up the court? Time, score, situation…
