[Afseth] Jason Kidd on working through struggles: “My job is to put the guys in that can help us win and who are playing, but you never turn your back on someone if they’re struggling. Timmy’s struggling, we know that. … We have to continue to put him in a position to be successful…”

In other news the Dallas Mavericks have decided to put THJ as a starter to help him “through his struggles”.

  2. and so the loss steak continues, seriously Kidd is a moron and he must have some shit on Cuban to still have this job

  3. ILikeTujtels

This mindset is so mind boggling that I am baffled in my mind.

  4. LogansGambit

So why not put guys in a position to be successful who AREN’T struggling? What do they have to do to get any kind of minutes?

Failure. You’re dooming the team to mediocrity to coddle a player who’s only quality is he can throw the ball at the rim a lot.

  5. Dapper_Connection526

He’s been struggling all season lol. Below league average FG% and 3P%

  6. Specialist-East-4347

THJ is NOT helping us to win, neither are you

  7. PrinceofEden23

Throwing THJ in the fucking fire while he continues to struggle definitely isn’t helping either, in fact it’s probably making him play even worse LMAO.

Either his mental gets worse since he can’t make a shot or he just keeps chucking since he has a long leash. I think this would be the time to try Hatdy instead of Tim since with THJ you know he can’t hit the side of a barn but Hardy might suprise you

And when the coach struggles we stand by him too. You can’t just throw a decent wife beating millionaire out in the cold just because he’s failed at his job three years in a row.

This is the downside of a “player’s coach”.

Kidd has prioritized keeping people happy over team success. Remember when he said his job is to get THJ the 6MOTY award before the season started?

  11. TXTundraPower

Your job is to win games. Not let a player get his confidence back at the expense of the team.

  12. Why the hell does maxi have 25 minutes and lively and gafford less than 20

  13. DepressedFineapple

So what he’s saying is, yes, Tim is playing terribly but we just have to play him some more

  14. Salvalicious252

No your job is to win games and use the players who are able to help you accomplish that goal.

  15. Igor Kokoskov was the genius behind our WCF run. If we make it to the playoffs we’ll get swept

  16. Simple_Wait_7286

It’s actually insane how different the vibes around this team were exactly one week ago before the Pacers game.

    >”You never turn yourback on someone if they’re struggling”

#YES YOU FUCKING DO THATS YOUR GOD DAMN JOB

  18. What must Hardy be thinking when your coach makes this kind of statement?

I have never seen a coach with less balls and personality in my life.

  19. Slashers23

He does know we’re trying to fight for a playoff spot and not rebuilding right?

  20. Yesboi227

Bro he literally throws his own players under the bus and doesn’t take accountability how does he even have a job

  21. Stevie_McGhee

And this is why players love him and don’t want him gone. So buckle up for more steady diet of THJ and bad coaching.

  22. BOOM_Shooka_Luka

You could perhaps instead put Hardy in a position to be successful instead of Hardaway, but then again you’re just watching the games like me.

  23. ITakeLargeDabs

Translation: “I know other players can make a better impact but I care more about Tim’s feelings.” What the actual fuck am I reading?

  24. qotsabama

Fuck Timmy. He’s getting paid a lot of money, he will be fine. We appreciate his contributions but he’s actively hurting the team. Fournier gets paid to sit, so can he

  25. SokfromDallas

I can’t believe we’re in the same position we were in last season man

  26. hagredionis

“We have to continue to put him in a position to be successful…”

    OMG

  27. Simple_Wait_7286

This is the difference between Kidd and an actual great coach.

A few seasons ago, Duncan Robinson got a big contract (just like THJ) after helping the Heat to the Finals in the Bubble. Just a couple seasons later, Eric Spoelstra completely benched Duncan because he was playing so poorly.

Duncan has bounced back well since then but it shows that Spoelstra is only looking to play the guys who give him the best chance to win in the present, he doesn’t care about the past.

Someone like Kidd doesn’t have the spine to make these types of decisions. He’s too focused on being “player-friendly”, which is fine but winning is always the number 1 goal and THJ has not contributed to winning games.
