Matter the Celtics came out and did the job now early on it was uh a tight game 21-21 but then they just took off from there I’ll get into uh a little bit of historical perspective later on uh a little bit of perspective from this season later on I’m also going to talk

About how the Celtics even though they were hot from three one of my favorite things is how they pick them pick the Warriors apart but let’s start at the top the big story daring Jaylen Brown to shoot so the the Celtics win the tip the story of how this game got broken open

Starts with the opening tip I love that weird tip Jaylen Brown gets the ball on the on the right side the Warriors kind of don’t get out to him and he gets a wideopen three-pointer drills it okay felt like ah maybe that was just a a weird Cross Match kind of thing uh

Didn’t you know whatever whatever he got the open shot he hits it then the second shot of the game he gets the ball above the break left side uh basically at the top of the key actually and Draymond Green is guarding him and stepping way off like the Marcus Smart defense like

Go ahead JB you’re up there I’m gonna be down here at the free throw line you do whatever you got to do so like Jaylen was taken back by that he looked at and he was like really Al Horford sets a pick and jayen I guess I’ll just step

Back here and shoot this three and he hits it uh then at that point it’s uh Warriors scored is 2121 come out of a timeout and they say well it looks like the warrior strategy is to let Jaylen Brown shoot now it seemed weird at the time I’m

Looking at it like you you really I don’t think Jaylen Brown is Steph Curry or anything but I was like you know he can hit open threes I looked into the numbers okay I I can kind of see where they were coming from right he’s shooting just under 35%

This season he had a tough shooting season last year this season on wideopen three-pointers six plus feet uh of space between him and the defender he’s shooting just about 28% on wide openen thre pointers that’s 11% less than that last year so you look at the numbers and you’re like huh I can

Kind of understand why the Warriors might do that so they tried it they I think what the warrior strategy was was if jaylen’s going to shoot like that on wide open threes Let’s test it let’s test to see if he can do that and what we’ll do is we’ll have Draymond Green as

A sort of a RoR and he can help protect the paint and if Jaylen hits hits one or two fine well he didn’t hit one or two he hit five in the first quarter he had 19 points in seven minutes in the first quarter the Celtics went from tied at 21

So it’s a 21-point game Joe moula puts Jaylen Brown in the left corner and says all right let’s let’s let’s test the Ile strength of this strategy let’s see how far the Warriors are willing to go with this they put Jaylen Brown in the corner Draymond barely jab steps at him makes

It Splash Jaylen hits that one then Jaylen comes down straight away and he’s like if you’re going to let me just shoot I’m feeling good Draymond starts to challenge it but by this time it’s too late Jaylen Comes Down Bam second three in a row next possession another

Warriors Miss Jaylen comes down now this time Draymond is up and boom Jaylen hits another one now at this point it’s a 140 run uh or a 120 run the 140 run comes when Derek white hits uh Luke cornette for an alleyoop and then there’s Jaylen

You know arms up to the crowd come on on come on he’s given everybody come on let’s go he wants he he he’s imploring the crowd to get louder and louder place was nuts mad house roof was coming off the place so Jaylen takes that strategy and runs with

It and destroys it it’s it’s a level of shooting that look you give any NBA player that much space there there’s a good chance that they’re going to find a Rhythm Jaylen may not be having his best three-point shooting season but I do think a lot of that is because he does

Take a fair amount of uh contested three-pointers uh I think he and Jason have had some struggles in the past couple of Seasons with their three-point shooting but you don’t want to let those guys get into a rhythm and when when Jaylen stepped into that first three-pointer and it was wide open and

He hit it hits a shot like four seconds into the game that should have been a little bit of a signal to the Warriors like all right let’s let’s just keep an eye on this maybe we don’t want to do the completely play off of him thing and look Joe moula

After the game to to his credit he was like you know you have a game plan coming in and then the game kind of tells you what you need to do and so they they saw it and they were like oh all right well let’s kind of forget the

Game plan for a second they’re letting Jaylen kind of shoot so let’s let’s let JB cook let’s kind of see where how far we can take this thing and after it was 21 uh 21 all 23 to one run to close the first quarter and then a monster second

Quarter where they it was 3816 in the second quarter so that’s a what 61- 17 run 61 to 17 run over the course of a quarter and a half this game went from tied to blowout laugher 50o uh game uh in a in a heartbeat and it starts with they took a

Shot the Warriors took a shot at defending Jaylen Brown a certain way uh they tried it it didn’t work even though Draymond Green aord was like uh it worked he just made the shots uh buddy I hate to tell you this but the strategy

On how to defend a guy kind of like if if he’s hitting shots it’s not working you know it’s like my investment in nfts is working I’m just broke like what no he made the shots in your face he made them in your eye that does not constitute the defensive strategy

Working it w did not work Jaylen went off had 19 points in seven minutes and BAS basically buried the Warriors they were on three games in four nights like I’m look and I’ll talk about this later on I’m not I’m not going to make too too

Much of this uh again I and if I’m being intellectually honest here uh if I’m gonna sit here and tell people like I’m not I’m not putting too much stock in any individual game any individual losses that might happen Celtics are going on a road trip there are potential

Losses that are going to be happening on that road trip Celtics have won 11 straight they’re going to have to lose at some point and I’m not going to put too much stock in that I’m also not going to put too much stock in a win like this because they blew out the

Warriors by 50 plus doesn’t mean that uh doesn’t mean a ton individually in this game but it’s nice it was nice always nice to beat the Warriors people love beating the Warriors Steph Curry had probably the worst half of his life he was terrible and I think the three games

And four nights yeah you probably chock that up once JB started hitting those three three-pointers and the Celtics started dicing them up the Warriors had no legs they had nothing left there was no comeback coming from the Warriors and in this team the amount that they’ve played and all of that

Stuff this was very much a chalk it up they were ready uh they didn’t play their starters after the half uh but let me get into how they picked the Warriors apart because it goes beyond JB JB started it but the rest of the Celtics finished this talk about that in just a

This game is that even though the Celtics were blistering hot from three they came out shooting 75% and I jokingly said you know my my bold take is that the Celtics should shoot 75% from three more often they didn’t exclusively on the three just because they shot 75% early on yeah they ended

Up taking 49 of them right they put up 96 shots but they didn’t rely on trying to bury the warriors with just three-pointers in fact one of my favorite possessions of this game was Jason Tatum uh giving the ball up having a potential three-point shot there giving the ball up the ball working

Around getting back to Tatum at the top of the key him passing up another shot faking driving and finishing that was chef’s kiss perfect that was beautiful basketball the Celtics of the past I swear if they had hit as many three-pointers as they did early in that

First quarter it would have been nothing but three-pointers they would have taken 60 of those things but they didn’t just say oh we’re hot from three let’s just keep on jacking every three that we can get they didn’t test the limits of that they kept

Getting in to the paint they were 11 of 12 at The Rim in the restricted area in the first half they had 20 assists in the first half and yeah you’re gonna make a ton of shots you’re gonna get a lot of assists chances are

But I love the fact that they worked the ball inside I love the fact that they drove that Derek white drove it and kicked and found Luke cornette along the Baseline I love that they drove and and got to the rim Jason Tatum got double teamed and it was a lazy double team

From the Warriors like three I want to say three possessions in the in the second quarter where maybe a couple more where Tatum saw the double team it was not a crisp double team it was not your typical Warriors defense and he just split it

Rather than uh try to shoot over the top of it and he didn’t even say I’m going to give it up he saw an opportunity like I’m going to split this and he got to the rim and it was just perfect the Celtics most impressive thing was their their

Commitment to making the right play not just what always going to the high hand Jaylen hit those three three-pointers took two shots after that in the first quarter and they didn’t just try to overdo something they said what do you got for us Golden State what are you

Trying to take away what are you trying to give us what do you think you can live with and they took what you think you could live with and turned it into it’s gonna kill you that’s where the Boston Celtics and this is why I believe this is a different team I’ve been

Saying it from the beginning of the season I’ve been telling people since day one make your parade plans in June because this is the team more so than any team in the past here where I thought hey they could and I thought they could have beaten the Warriors and

I thought they could have gotten to the finals last year uh but this team I keep saying this year’s Celtics team is going to get to the finals I think they are going to win a championship I’m not saying that in a jinxing way because jinxes aren’t real I’m saying that

Because this team continues to play the right way make the right play the mentality is there I always talk about process the process of this we talk about it everybody talks about the Brad Stevens era process over results Kai Zen that whole mentality uh Joe moula is is carrying that with him and

It’s it’s something that they just they’re just committed to and you know what I’m talking about when I say in years past they would get carried away in games like this and I’m I believe if they had let that mentality seep in here yeah they closed the the

First quarter uh on a 23 to1 run and were doubling up the Warriors at after one 44-22 nothing more dangerous in a in basketball in NBA basketball than a 20-point first quarter lead it’s it’s the 3-1 lead in hockey it 20 points in the first quarter is the most

Meaningless insignificant lead that you can have now it was significant in this game because the Warriors just didn’t have it they didn’t have anything to give after that first quarter and I didn’t think they had a comeback in them but in the moment it was like look man Curry had a bad first

Quarter I expect because he’s Steph Curry I expect him to come back and hit some shots so if the Celtics had come in to that second quarter with the mentality of baby we’re hot we’re just gonna keep raining Hellfire from above and you can’t stop us Ian they did hit a

Ton of Threes no doubt but that wasn’t what they were always seeking they were just seeking the best shots if they had just come out banging threes or just hunting threes and just taking those threes they would have given up opportunities for the Warriors to come

Back because there is going to be some regression to the mean that shooting is going to C come back down to earth and if you’re just doing that and you’re not doing the other stuff you’re not putting pressure on that defense you’re not demoralizing the other team the way the

Celtics played that was demoralizing that was the okay you know what Steve Kerr says I’m done starters are sitting the third quarter we are we’re done congratulations you win we could have done our postgame interviews at half time and and been done with it but it’s because of that mentality that picked

Score because uh I want to get to some of these other guys before I get into the historical perspective stuff Jason Tatum the birthday boy turned 26 scored 27 nine of 13 shooting four five from three 505 from the line so it combined what’s that 56 from Jaylen and Jason

Jaylen finished with 29 three rebounds three assists one turnover between the two of them that’s always fun so uh great play there great defense by the way Jaylen Brown great defense by the Celtics they really clamped down they held the war to 22 points and 16 points

In the first and second quarters and I know people were busting my chops there saying oh carrales is gonna say they gave up 26 in the fourth quarter they lost the fourth quarter oh my God no the defense was spectacular the warriors were missing some some easy looks they

Were missing some makeable shots but the defense was on point for sure so Jaylen and Jason had their big games I told you there was no porzingis you got a nice game from Derek white they found him for a couple of daggers in that second quarter he was really an instrumental

Part there in the second quarter of piling it on uh he finished with 14 points and eight assists Drew holiday had seven points six rebounds four assists shout out to pton Pritchard who came in and played at a speed where the Warriors just couldn’t keep up you know

I keep talking about the Warriors legs they didn’t have them uh and this is where the historical perspective I mean that the the inseason big picture perspective comes in because look things have a tendency to even out that and people have brought it up people brought

It up in on Twitter on Boston Sports journal in the comment section there where the the Celtics this was the opposite of the Milwaukee game remember the Milwaukee game the Celtics had played like five games and seven nights or whatever eight night uh third game and four nights they were clearly toast

They they kind of hung around a little bit early and then the Wheels fell off and it became embarrassing and this was the opposite of that game 100% Warriors hung around the Celtics made their big run the Warriors didn’t have any legs they didn’t have a comeback in them the Celtics poured it

On and then basically the entire second half was garbage time the Celtics started their starters in the third quarter but the Warriors didn’t and then a few minutes in it was like the seven minute Mark where all of the starters came out and it was garbage time so

This is the opposite of that right and things even out when you’re when you’re as good as the Celtics are I want people I want you to keep the big picture in mind like yeah the Milwaukee loss was rough but you know it happens and this war this Warriors loss

Is rough for them but they were 13 and3 since losing to the Lakers uh they had backtack losses Sacramento in La uh they were 13 and3 since then they had one eight straight in a row they came in winning three in a row they had beaten some some teams that were you know

Short-handed and hurt and all of that but they came in but they they didn’t have it they didn’t have the legs and so it’s it’s not like season like crippling you know they have they have other issues but regardless so the Celtics feasted like they you know they they got

An embarrassing win just like they had an embarrassing loss the things tend to even out out here the Celtics lost to the Lakers that was a month ago you know remember people were like go back to the comments section on YouTube after that podcast people were losing their damn

Minds you don’t have to lose your minds after these games and so yeah they lost to the Lakers and that was tough you you didn’t want to lose to the Lakers that was uh some unacceptable type of stuff happened there and what did they do they responded by winning 11 straight

Games this is incred this the longest winning streak in the NBA this year they haven’t lost they’ve only lost two games in a row once and that was in early November that was like the seventh and eighth game of the season so there are 23 games left that

Was a long time ago the Celtics continue to pile on these wins so finishing up my point about pton Pritchard he he had the legs then that the Warriors didn’t have and he just came in played at a speed that they couldn’t keep up with he had 19 points

Six six rebounds six assists you know shout out to him some nice minutes from Sam Hower some you know decent minutes from Luke cornette in limited time so yeah I just feel like this is why I try to stay even keeled sometimes they’re going to lose they’re G to lose at some

Point on this road trip they will lose they might lose that Utah game I’m I’m telling you now I’ve told you before I’m telling you now expect them to lose the Utah game playing in Portland the night before losing a time zone in altitude

That is going to be a tough one if they win that game I’ll be impressed but that could be a tough game for them get used to it it’s gonna happen and they might win oh they might lose two in a row it’s gonna happen potentially so the whole point of this

Is for a team as good as Boston they have a tendency to even the these things out and they did so that Milwaukee loss was not a big deal and this win is great because it’s the Warriors and all that stuff not that big of a deal either

Right um historic win because this is the third 50 plus Point win of the season for the Celtics the third one no team has ever ever done that they’ve never won three so the Celtics are on this historical Pace they are doing things that we haven’t seen before and their

Point differential now is up to 11.4 that’s one of the best point differentials of all time and they continue to make uh to put distance between them because right now as I’m I’m doing this podcast the Knicks are about to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers so they’re going to have a ninepoint lead

Assuming that the Knicks close this out they’re going to have a nine game lead over the Cavaliers and what’s this game uh 50 60 so there’s 22 games left there’s 22 games left nine games to make up that that’s just the Celtics will have to lose and and they have the the

Tiebreaker over the the Cavs the Bucks they don’t but if they if they beat the Bucks here coming up but bottom line is the East is basically wrapped up it’s basically a wrap and the Celtics are doing this in incredible ways plus 11.4 Point differential that’s insane so Savor the

Flavor Celtics fans because this was a nice win uh I know a lot of people are feeling good about beating the Warriors and yeah soak it up because it’s it’s fun uh I know the Warriors have a little extra a little something extra and after that loss to the warriors uh earlier

This season people were really kind of like ah angry so you got your revenge Celtics did what they had to do Jaylen was awesome and you know maybe don’t dare him to shoot three-pointers don’t don’t do that it’s not going to work uh Celtics off and then they go play play
