New article on ESPN+ comparing the Thunder to the 73-win warriors. Its behind the + paywall, but basically the thunder have an amazing offense this season, with scoring from all over the place, but I find it a bit hyperbolic comparing a 73 win team to one that’s already got 18 losses with 22 games left.
SGA is reaching new heights, but he’s no Chef Curry.

They’re a great team but this is a wild wild comparison lmao. Another conversation about a dynasty that doesn’t exist.
OKC thunder are a very good basketball team this season.
With that being said, they are nowhere close to the 2015-16 warriors. That team was revolutionary, they broke the league and truly accelerated the dominance of the 3 point shot in the Modern NBA. They had *half* the number of losses the current OKC team has in *the whole season*.
Celtics this season might be a better comparison
comparing a thunder team who hasn’t even played in a real playoff series to a warriors team who were reigning NBA champions and who finished up with the best single season in the NBA record wise is i’d say a bit precipitously premature on ESPN’s part
It is okay. They get very little press. The media going to Media
They frankly should have compared them to an earlier version but they just want to grab headlines and clicks. I have never paid for the ESPN paywall and I never will..
SGA needs to win a few rounds of playoffs first before being compared to Curry. He is obviously extremely good but I think his stats will take a hit because FT merchant style doesn’t work well in the playoffs,
The NBA is desperate to manufacture new super stars. It’s why we see the huge shift towards offense and shiny big scoring numbers.
ESPN is just the NBA’s mouthpiece pushing the same agenda.
I was just about to make a post about this. I couldn’t believe my eyes 😂😂
I think from a stats perspective that might be true, but I don’t think it lessens what the 2013-2014 warriors did. Gotta keep in mind they lit up the league at a time where the pace was slower and defenses were stingier. And they did this while putting up an elite defense themselves
It literally says they aren’t at the warriors level in like the second paragraph. People can make comparisons without fan bases panicking chill
“How do they compare?”
“They don’t.”
Concise
They have the potential to be a historically special team. Doing very well with a very young team, excellent payroll situation for 2-3 years, and still a shit-ton of draft assets (**14** FRPs in the next 7 years (several protected); 1 FRP swap; 19 guaranteed and 6 contingent SRPs) that they can either use or roll into trades.
But they ain’t there yet, and making that comparison is ridiculous. The “73” team was the most dominant regular season in League history, and we came within what, a Draymond tantrum and 2 points of the Championship?
A little patience, OKC fans. Your time will (probably) come. As it is, the Thunder are 6 games back of the Celtics on a League-wide basis, so they’re not even the best team THIS season.
The thing about the 73 win warriors roster was that there were literally no answers for it. The weaknesses of OKC are apparent and it’s mostly their ability to get rebounds.
