Did it occur to him that it’s a downward spiral? If the offense is struggling, you need to step up on defense to make up for it, until hopefully the shots start falling again. If the defense depends on the success of your offense, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Kidd sounds like that work manager who always bullshits his answers in a company meeting. You know, the one you don’t understand what the f he’s saying.
Man, Kidd was my favorite player when he was active but as a coach, I can’t even describe the hate I have for this guy and it’s mostly because of his BS answers.
Kidd probably thinks his press conference answers are privately funny and clever. But, this is no joke….Jason Kidd is the worst freaking coach in the NBA. Look at the team’s effort and body language, right now. They want nothing to do with their head coach. He has not earned their respect….and he doesn’t deserve it. Get this monstrosity of a coach out of town.
He mixed up basketball and football (soccer), where you don’t need to defend if you have a great offense and don’t let the other team get the ball. In basketball, that’s of course not possible.

As the number 1 Kidd hater, to take his answer somewhat seriously:
I do prefer offense over defense if you have to pick one, because you at least can get your points back if you give them up on the other end. Even with good defense, this current NBA, everyone is going to score. A lot. You scoring a lot puts pressure on the other team to keep it up and not be patient, and that’s where mistakes come in.
That said…you can’t be giving up 137 on 54 and 48 percent splits. This team can’t average freaking 140 a night.

Kidd needs to be fired
His first year, he really got this team up defensively. So much so that they made the WCF.
Since then, he reverted this team back to this BS mindset that defense is completely secondary to offense, and this team barely looks like a playoff contender.
I was over Kidd as a player and I’m entirely over him as a coach.
I was watching an after show stream on YouTube last night and one of the hosts had an explanation of what Kidd means here.
Basically off a missed basket we are god awful in transition and we have a bottom 5 defensive rating in those situations. Off a made basket we’re #6 in defensive rating (I could be misremembering the exact ratings but you get the gist).
So this is just a roundabout way of Kidd saying our transition defense is terrible and we have to score to protect it.
Dude be saying stuff like a guy who knows he’s never getting canned lol
