Hawks vs. Knicks Postgame Press Conference: Quin Snyder
Coach it seemed like every time New York tried to go on a run you guys responded in a way that kind of got the momentum back on your side just what did you see from the guys on the floor that kind of they kept their Poise and got the game well I
Think you know their runs came um on the offensive glass um they just that we know that they’re that’s something they do very very well and then in transition and thought we were efficient offensively and uh that helped our defense as well but also you know we we
Really executed well down the stretch and um on both ends you know we did give up a couple threes um but they were contested which has you know been a point of Memphis for us and it seemed like Jaylen DeAndre you could pick guys out at any moment and they were kind of
Like spark plugs for you guys offensively just what did you see from Jaylen to start the game DeAndre Off the Bench yeah um hunt was you know he came in just ready to shoot you know if he had some space and he’s big so he can
Rise up and get that shot off and then I thought he mixed it up um really well in the drive the one play that he went to the rim um late in the game out of timeout you know was was a a really big play for us and um yeah Jaylen across
The board his defensive rebounding is really important for us and uh you know his ability to play make as well so just got to get him to keep his feet in the lane a little bit but he’s a good enough passer that you know he finds people too
And so obviously you know excited to have both those guys played speaking of play M it um just you know it’s a little bit of a flashy play but the log from Jaylen to DeAndre just what did you think of it yeah you know those you know
We want to be aggressive on those and those guys connecting and and said you know Jaylen when someone’s you know willing and able to pass um um you know the other guys on the floor can feel that and Hunt made a great read and then Jaylen made a really good pass was you
Know there were a number of those plays I thought DJ’s buckets late um you know were important crucial buckets and you know we got to set our defense and and um you know we’re able to get some stops late Quinn your own ball defense was really good tonight it seemed that you
Were able to stay solid and it didn’t force you guys to help was that something that you had communicated to the team you know you you know you know from seeing us work a little bit this this week I thought our guys really made an effort on their Closeouts um the
Times that they did get to the rim we were even I thought we were getting bumped physically where they’re you know if we just are a little stronger um those will be harder shots um but yeah we didn’t get broken down as much until um the offensive glass it’s it’s tough
To cover and find people but we did a much better job of that as well and for the offensive rebounds it seemed like you know you were sending guards and the small for forwards and you had a little bit of an advantage with the smaller guards was that something that you guys
Were searching out yeah I think you know both sadik and and Hunt um you know there’s a lot of times they’re mad they’re they’re hard to keep off the glass cuz they’re physical and you know I’m I love whatever we’re going to do either crash you know with everything
You got or get back you know just don’t let’s not be we talk about being caught in purgatory and uh either one of those are good because if you crash and you know you obviously impact the play and eventually people have to account for it
As well can you talk about Trent Force I thought at the end of the third he bought you some critical time but his play would allow you to have DJ s on the bench a little bit longer yeah you get get a quick blow I he’s been doing that
You know for a while and he’s got a unique ability um you know when he gets in the lane to make plays you know he’s hard to speed up and you know he’s got his little floater and he’s able to pass um you know so as I said you know just him
Running the team and then he’s always solid defensively as well when can you uh I know it’s probably not possible to to minimize it to one thing but when you have a guy like Jaylen that I think rightfully so is going to be in a most improved conversation this year what do
You attribute the sort of leap that you’ve seen where he just to a lot of us just looks like a different guy yeah you know he he works at it as much as anything and you know he’s still figuring certain situations out and um you know I I
Think we don’t need him to be perfect I thought tonight um maybe the biggest thing he did early is he didn’t hesitate you know and that’s maybe been um at least you know the second part of the season um you know recognizing how people are closing out on him and not
Hesitating for a second and then shooting just you know taking your shot got um and that that’s really you know we have confidence in him in that and if he doesn’t shoot it you know that’s okay too you know but make a quick decision to do something else and and make a play
For someone else and he’s capable of doing both those things I’m so sorry too I have I know I’m from this market so I don’t get a chance to talk to you much um and I should have asked it pregame if I wasn’t here we got it back to back
That’s all go ahead though you don’t have to apologize just ask app I’m good uh I’m I’m working on something about jylan and obviously that experien he has been the playoffs and just his footwork and how unusual the guy footwork is for someone that’s a guard what have you
With might know you have against him tonight no I mean it’s a it’s a great story you know because you’re absolutely right he he’s he’s really unique I think his strength and his Poise you know allows him to read and it’s when you have to guard a
Player um you know on the catch you know who has r range um you have to guard them again um off the dribble and then you have to guard them again when they pick up their dribble you know there’s a lot of opportunities as a Defender for
You to make a mistake you know and he’s able to score you know and to pass you know where when he picks up his dribble he he’s reading you know and as you said you know the poison he has in the lane and his ability to finish over the top
Of you and then is also his ability to pass you know it’s hard to help or he’s finding people and you’re right I have seen it before mhm quick I wanted to ask you I know boy was dealing with that jam thumb he had it taped up just when his shots
Aren’t falling or not necessarily falling what do you want to see from him I I thought bogy played well you know I think you can you can get you know fixated on whether the ball goes in and the only thing for him is I don’t want
Him to get fixated on that frankly you know we finished with hunt because hunt was having a really good game and um you know defensively we were a little bigger um but you know Bogie’s so important to our team whether he’s making shots or
Not I mean I I I think he’s really made his defense a focal point and you know taking pride in that is something that’s also really important to our group okay
