BEST WIN OF THE SEASON?! 👀 Can the Suns’ win vs. Nuggets IGNITE a Championship run? | NBA Today

We talk a lot about the race for the one seed in the playin picture out west but are y’all paying attention to what’s going on in the playin race in the East if not we’re going to go Coast to Coast here we’re going to start with the red

Hot heat Duncan Robinson showing off his handle Jimmy Butler was getting buckets late the heat they won their 11th game out of 14 so Richard are they already in postseason form I I think they are and look to be honest haime hawz I think he’s going to play okay I see dunan

Robinson with the S we starting the Duncan Robinson most in no no no no we’re not we’re not doing that DPP Terry Rosier Jimmy Butler that crew they’ve got some they’ve got some time to mix in it’s going to be good well they’re still looking up at Orlando

Though in the standings after the magic got their fourth straight win they’re now 10 games above 500 for the first time since 2012 Kendrick Perkins is this their best team of the last decade hell yeah it is and look they’re going to continue to improve this is a young team

That has bought into to their coach system they play with a certain type of tenacity led by that man right there be Caro that’s me pulling into the next stop the garden Jaylen Brunson missed the game with a knee injury the Knicks fell to the Hawks 1161 100 CH New York

Has dropped eight of their last 11 are these injuries just going to dash any hopes for the Knicks to get home court advantage it might because in a hot second they can drop as far down to eighth but still orange and blue skies especially next season we have great

Pieces they need to get he but I was surprised I was surprised they went 16 for 52 from three beep beep all right that’s where we’re ending Brooklyn Ty Maxi missed the game due to a concussion protocol the Sixers fell to 9 and 18 without Joel embiid Philadelphia entered

The game Joel went down sitting in third entered Joel went down sitting in third place right so that’s when he went down where they’re at now they’ve tumbled all the way to seventh and the playin tournament zone so a little bit concerning here for the Philadelphia

76ers the East race to avoid the playin it continues to tighten up look at that Richard five teams separated by just a game and a half with the magic moving up into that fourth spot as we say hello to Scott Perry who spent two decades in NBA front offices including most recently

With the New York Nicks thank you so much for being here my friend I think it’s it’s fair to say right we we can count the Cavaliers the Bucks and the Celtics CH as some way shape or form the top three certifi okay top three C’s so

When you’re looking at the best of the rest who Scott do you think could win a playoff series in the East absolutely the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks and here’s why I say the Miami Heat they’re battle tested we saw what they did last season they won three playoff

Series go all the way to the finals they have two Allstars Le by Jimmy Butler who is very capable of winning the series so and they have the best coach I believe in basketball so they’re going to be very well prepared and they won’t beat themselves and then obviously the Knicks

If they’re healthy they’re the deepest team they’re physical they can shoot the basketball all the things that are necessary to to be able to win a playoff series the Knicks have it on their complete Rost and they’re deep the health is just the but look you look at even Denver

Right they win the championship because that was the first year that they’ve been healthy in three years and so health is such a big part of it I look at the New York Knicks I look at them to me as a very scary team so you don’t

Know what what when everyone’s going to get back but when they were healthy they look like they could have been a team that could possibly go to the NBA finals the way they were playing their defense their offense way everything was clicking and I think look when you look

At Josh Hart has raised his level there’s different guys that have kind of used this opportunity to up their game if they can maintain that intensity and get everyone back healthy then they could be a problem for me it’s the Nick I’m giving you this one shot okay golden

Opportunity go ahead give me a slap across the head wow but anyway look I deserve that you know why because when the Miami Heat was struggling that’s okay that’s fine when the when the Miami Heat was strugg struggling I was like you know what it’s time to trade Jimmy and you for that

Because when the time is right they always step up to the plate and now they’re playing playoff type basketball and it’s the culture once again yes Jimmy is out there doing what he does Best But I look at what bam is providing on both ends of the floor the growth of

The young players coming in into the system and right now this team is playing agenda free guys are playing with you know within the team and when I look at this team I’m like man not only do I know but the rest of the Eastern Conference know that we don’t want to

See the Miami Heat oh Boston looks at them Boston they’re doing they’re doing double tap right if the necks are healthy it’s a whole different conversation right and our fingers crossed are that they get their health very soon but the truth of the matter is that the heat are healthy

And they are coming and this is when they really play their best version of basketball and start gearing it up and as much as we like to forecast seeing them oh yeah it’s the heat like we know that they’re going to be good they still find ways to compete now when we talked

About James Harden going to the Clippers a lot of people looked at those first six games they like oh it’s not going to work it was a it took a little while for Terry Rosier to find his momentum and his chemistry and now that that is found

You’ve got an All-Star in bam you have just overall this identity that has helped them move forward it’s them like top tier was it Celtics bucks Cavaliers Cavaliers yeah heater right there at the right time yeah there’s something to be said for experience and they have it in

Spades talking about the Miami Heat Y and they’re gonna have a confidence I remember talking to someone just a couple of months even when they were hurt even when they were were downtrod a little bit and saying you guys don’t really fear anybody in in the conference

Do you that absolutely not but I think we should ask this question again in two weeks because health is going to be such a key factor in whatever we’re discussing in terms of who could make that noise SC Perry thank you so much for spending some of your day with

Coming up here on NBA today Kevin Durant and the Suns Richard shocked the defending champs is it time to start believing in Phoenix I heard you have some sizzling thoughts I do sizling I know I miss 10 straight straight shots myself but all them felt great leaving our hands and that’s the

Name of the game you know you just stick with it and overtime we was able to get stops rebound and get easy shots on the other end I mean we’re not going to shoot the ball as poorly as we did tonight you know we just get a shot on

Goal every time down and you know we’re going to out two teams most night with the guys that we have on this team so in a big picture you know we’ll look back as uh this being a huge win so after struggling in the fourth when the Suns finished blowing their 22-point lead

Kevin Durant and Beal they bounc back in a big way in overtime they combined to score 13 points on five of five shooting that adds up to more points and field goals made in OT for the Suns Duo than they ever had in the fourth so I think

We can safely stay last night best win of the Season maybe at least beating the Nuggets abs in Denver but let’s talk a little bit big picture here because the the big three no Deon Booker again last night they’ve only played in 23 games for the Phoenix Suns they’re 14 and nine

In that stretch I would have thought they would be a little bit better there do they have time to put this together a championship team a championship run they do but they need that big three on the floor but I’ll tell you this a lot of people will see the numbers what what

Did he finish with 35 points right in this game Kevin Durant I love the field goal attempts because everyone underestimates KD because he is so efficient I know that’s like a basic word but he will give you MVP points per game off of what 17 18 shots he was

Intentional did he shoot the ball 34 times last night shooting the ball 34 times is him being vocal him being aggressive also looking at their construction defensively he has relied upon defensively as that second level Defender so I think there are a lot of aspects to KD’s game that may seem quiet

But him taking those shots shows that he wants to be aggressive he wants to win he is competing he took the took the tough shots and like this is historically something he has not done that I appreciate well look they have to I we keep talking about it they have to

Be healthy right if they are healthy in my opinion they can beat anybody if they are banged up if they got guys in and out of the in and out of the lineup they can lose to anybody so when I look at yes is Kevin Durant good enough to lead

A team to a championship 1,00% I don’t think his game has dropped off in any sort of substantial way that could say like oh he’s still not that guy he is very much that guy 27 points a game 50% shooting 40% from three and he’s having

To play some small ball four and five so he’s actually having to help them playing other positions not having Bradley Beal for a large portion of the season and he’s still that efficient so with double teams and box and ones going so for me if this team can get healthy

Stay healthy are do they have a great lineup no but do can they make some serious noise I can see them getting to the Conference Finals if they’re helping last night was about the little things and and I just want to see which direction the suns are going to go in

After getting a huge win like last night are you going to continue to build in those areas because they did a lot of great things on the you know that for as things that don’t show up in the stat sheet so are you going to Trend upwards

Or you going to still take those steps backwards and I feel like this is a great great starting point for them especially at this point of the season but it’s tough though they have the toughest remaining schedule in the NBA they face the Boston Celtics that face

Rich they they face the Boston Celtics twice in the next week I mean which Celtics which Celtics sure come on man the one that 16 and four last they’re the best team in the league they we don’t have to just like pet them and tell them how great they are we can make

Fun of them when they blow a 20po lead without Donovan Mitchell with 9 minutes to go yeah we can crack some jokes on the Celtics everybody in all I watched I watched everything yesterday and it was just like Celtics are all all great team well can they be are they better than

The old Warriors are they better than the old Bulls all I did was stare matter and you like doesn’t matter no man I was watching Everybody Just stroke the Boston Celtics for the last week I was there just W so great they’re so perk over the head you ready for your

C I was not ready for the to to to light them up because the Cavs just more of like this why I said this might be the best thing to happen but it might not matter which version of the Celtics it with without Devin Booker in this coming

Up here for the next week or so as he continues to recover either way they going have to play him Rich yeah I said which Celtics that’s no you didn’t just say that Richard I don’t even know what happened all Right

On NBA Today, Chiney Ogwumike, Malika Andrews, Scott Perry and Richard Jefferson discuss…

  1. Kd didn’t prove much he just heard the noise about jokic possibly passing him up & he wasn’t having it can the suns stay consistent? & can kd take the suns to the promise land.

  2. I don't get how everybody keeps talking about KD. Last night: Grayson was the difference maker by being active and not an spectator on the offense. He's always consistent on defense but looks for a corner and puts his hands on his waist on the offense while the game is going. The team going after every rebound made a huge difference as well. Grayson has the potential to stretch the opposing defenses. Let's not overlook that Jokic had a bad night.

  3. Perk worry about your Celtics not my Heat let me slap you in the back of the head for even saying trade jimmy

  4. They will stop double teaming kD when his teammates start hitting shots and you don’t want on player guarding kd that’s game over

  5. Shout out to Nurk for the defense on Jokic .

Also KD clutch shooting and Allen has been super consistent for us, Beal is still feared because he can drop 20-30 anytime . And has experience like KD if we pass and play defense and score in the fourth we can beat anyone! And this is without book!

  6. The Celtics are not much different than my Clippers. You can’t have your best players only be 6’7 or 6’8. Even Kobe had Shaq and Pau next to him. If Heatles never got Bosh and got Carmelo instead, I doubt they win in 2013. You gotta to be BIG even if your best player is not that height.

    Bill Russell
    Wilt Chamberlain
    Hakeem Olajuwon
    Magic still had Kareem
    Kobe had Shaq and Pau

A team with Shaq or Duncan were reaching the Finals every year from 1999-2007. Celtics had KG who is 6’11.

Only MJ’s Bulls became a dynasty without an all-star big man. They figured it out without needing one. They did defeat the Cavs with Daugherty and Knicks with Ewing all those years. Then avenged Shaq’s Magic in 1996. The 1998 Pacers were a taller team than those Bulls and the Bulls still found a way to beat them in 7. The Davis boys and Smits were a huge frontcourt. Jalen Rose was 6’8 and Reggie Miller was 6’7.

    1. Jokic 6’11
    2. Giannis 6’11
    3. Embiid 7’1
    4. AD 6’10

    Suns have 6’11 KD
    Spurs have Wemby.
    TWolves have Towns and Gobert.

Clippers really need to re-evaluate their lineup. Hard to win a ring if your best player isn’t an elite big or you lack one. No rush to re-sign Paul George and James Harden until they can show us they can perform well in the playoffs. Right now, three of our stars are still born losers. Two of them are skilled but ringless.

In the 2020s, every champion had an elite big except the 2022 Warriors who only had to handle a small team like Boston. Lakers had AD and Dwight. Bucks have Giannis. Nuggets have arguably the best player in the NBA. The last 5 MVP winners were 6’11 or taller.

    2019: Giannis
    2020: Giannis
    2021: Jokic
    2022: Jokic
    2023: Embiid

It’s Joker’s world and we’re all living in it. He’s going to win at least 3 or 4 rings when it’s all said and done. True, he isn’t athletic and doesn’t play D that well. But like Shaq, he’s also too unstoppable. He won his 1st ring without needing to create or join a superteam similar to Giannis in 2021.

Jokic got drafted by Denver and he won them a title without trying to act like LeBaby crying for Anthony Davis to help him and getting coaches fired. Or asking his friends to help him or giving up every 1st round draft pick to trade. Without being like KD winning prostitute rings in Golden State.

It was Year 8 for Shaq, Giannis, and Jokic when they won their first. I believe Denver has more championships to come. Jokic is way more skilled than Shaq. His game is prettier than Shaq’s but Skip Bayless doesn’t like Jokic for some reason but thinks Shaq is the 3rd greatest player ever. Uh huh. Being slow and unathletic like Jokic might also help prolong his career.

It was a fluke win by Phoenix similar to my Clippers winning in Minnesota or the Lakers beating us because LeBron caught a hot hand. I’m not concerned for Denver. They’re going to destroy everyone by late next month.

In the West, it’s Denver and then everyone else. In the East, it’s Boston vs. Miami vs. Milwaukee. Ignore the other five teams in the East. I see Boston vs. Miami ECF again. Milwaukee is playing great lately but I still don’t trust Doc Rivers in the playoffs no different than I don’t trust Paul George, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, D’Angelo Russell, and Anthony Davis’ health or strength in stopping Nikola Jokic.

We’re returning to the era when the bigs rule. Clippers, Celtics, and Heat will never win a championship if their top 2 best players are all 6’8 or shorter unless they face each other or another smaller team like Phoenix and Golden State.

You know why I don’t believe my Clippers will ever win a championship with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and James Harden? Because they don’t care about their legacy. They don’t have that same DESIRE and WILL TO WIN like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James have. They don’t have that same WORK ETHIC.

If you want to win rings, you want to be the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. You need to want it 100% all day, everyday. I don’t see that with Kawhi, PG, and Harden. They get paid well and that’s it. It’s no different than Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady. I never saw it in them that they so badly wanted to win a ring. There’s no fire under that belly to want to always win.

Sorry, Clippers. You’re already running out of steam. Nice new logo but this franchise will never win a championship with a small team like that, weak leadership, and not the same desire as MJ and Kobe in always trying to win it all. Playing basketball like their lives depended on it because they cared about their legacies and how they’ll be remembered.

The only players who don’t need to have the same will power as MJ and Kobe but who can still win rings are elite players who are 6’10 or taller. Like Shaq can get away being lazy because he was so big, strong, and unstoppable. Or Jokic who has no desire to be in the spotlight, no social media, and cares more about his horse racing. He doesn’t have to work as hard as Kobe because was born big.

Size matters in the NBA. Clippers needs to get the memo. Lakers won all those championships because they always had an all-star big man and not because Magic and Kobe were so fun to watch.

  7. KD❤ He has been playing heavy mins almost every game this season. The suns huy need to get healthy

  8. The Suns have figured out the Nuggets, just imagine if Booker was playing.. the Suns are one of the few teams that could beat Denver in a 7 game series
