Malik Monk, De’Aaron Fox & Coach Brown | Postgame Pressers 3.6.24
Win for you guys what uh what was the the key to kind of flip in the switch there in in late in the first quarter early in the second um pick up our defense of pressure um that way we can get out and run more um when they miss
So that was really the biggest key and uh I think we did a great job with that how about the just Keon coming in and then you know obviously you got it going too like what was what were you guys trying to do there to to kind of bring
Life to the team um that’s that’s key on being a professional man um waiting for his name to be called and coming in and and doing the right things but um I try to do that every time I get on the court man um just try to bring energy whether
It’s um creating for my teammates or creating for myself just to just to get us going um and I think I did a great job attacking first um and then passing and making decisions after that so it worked out for me that big run late in the first half six three-pointers was
That just stoping shots due to running out being in transition um our defensive pressure picked up and and we was making them Miss and yep that’s exactly what happened um we were just able to get the long rebounds or the rebounds and we know sometimes they lag or or um sit
Back um and we was just able to run on them how about Fox’s performance and I believe tied his career high with 44 um how good is he he all right that’s no man he it’s Fox man um should have been Allstar him and domas man we keep saying
That but um they going they going to carry the team and we just is going to follow right behind them you guys relish to these moments like you’ve you’ve come into LA and and you know you probably know what the record is over the last like three years against them um just to
Kind of you know silence this crowd a little bit you guys you guys relish these moments yeah man it’s always great to come into um an arena and and make the home crowd go quiet man I think everybody loves that and that’s being a competitor on the basketball court so um
Thankful we got to win man can’t can’t celebrate too much we got to gain tomorrow so um um we’d be ready for tomorrow goad behind their late in the first quarter was that a little bit of The Hangover from Monday night or oh that’s a good question man um I actually
Don’t know what happened um sometimes it it we start like that um I I think that’s why we got 20 P 20 players 16 players um so it’s a team sport so the the next group come in and and pick up where the first group left off and they
Just pick up where our energy was Dar congrats on the wining great game for you and and the team what um how did how did you turn this around after you know after a pretty poor start uh I think defensively I think that’s where uh we pretty much won the game obviously um
Only allowing a obviously we scored 44 in the second quarter but giving up a 20-point quarter um almost regardless of how your offense looks uh will keep you in in any game uh we were able to take that lead and just build off that in the
Second half and um we’re able to finish this game off do you love coming to play down here you’ve had some big nights and then you guys have had a lot of success against this this team in the last few years what how much do you relish the
The opportunity to come down and and play these guys I mean um when you have you know divisional games those those mean a little more and then obviously right now what the way the standings are you know if we lose this game we’re half a game in front of them rather than I
Think now two and a half so um right now especially when we play teams that are around us in the standings those games mean a little more talk about that defense in I you scor 4 Points as a team but to limit them the way you did who was deflection
Yeah I mean I think um Keon and and davon’s ball pressure was big for us tonight um obviously domas uh just trying to be able to limit ad um you know Harrison or Keegan or who or Trey whoever was on Braun you’re just trying to limit them as much as possible but um
I just think what what Keon and Davon did for us as far as coming in pressing the ball getting deflections being able to get out and transition I think was huge for us in that in that second quarter um and like I said I mean we
Scored 44 points but I think a lot of that had to do with because of with the way that we’re were playing defensively what about your bench tonight we know what can do but beig where those Davon threes too I think you outscored him 50
To 18 yeah I mean he started he started off four for four from three I mean obviously that’s not going to happen every night for anybody but um that that’s huge for us and that that contributed to what we did in that second quarter um Keon comes out hits a
Big three in that second quarter while we’re on a run call them a call a timeout um I think we got contribution from everybody that played tonight you guys have been on the other end of of kind of blowing some leads recently does that in some way did that
I don’t know kind of give you the the just the knowledge and and the resolve to to stay in the game and and keep fighting yeah definitely I mean I think it’s a little different than some of the things that we’ve done because obviously we were down in the first quarter and
Then you know the second quarter we pick it up uh rather than being you know up 20 in the third or or late in the third or in the fourth and then giving that up I think it’s a little different because swings happen in the in in the course of
A game but um I think what we’ve done um and giving up leads late just can’t happen are you aware of the amount of road games you guys have played and how much are you looking forward to having you know a couple of weeks at at the
Crib yeah I think we it like 17 out of 20 29 or 28 or something like that are supposed to be at home I mean we have to do a better job defending home Court I think we’ve been I mean we were a good road team last year we’ve been a good
Road team this year uh we have to be better at home um I mean until then I don’t really have I don’t I don’t know what to say about it that was a good win by our guys bless you thank good win by our guys uh on the
Road uh especially you know with those guys jumping out the way they did to start the game um our guys stayed composed they just kind of stayed with it they didn’t Panic uh I thought javel McGee was huge huge his veteran leadership on the bench the way he was
Talking to our guys when we were down big uh the way he talked to them throughout the course of the game uh just great words timely words and reassuring words for all of our guys and even for our staff um but had a lot of guys play well you know obviously uh
Domas with the triple double domas had two huge offensive rebounds down the stretch I mean he just him working his tail off to come up with those uh they were just they were big um foxy he was he was amazing and I even kind of hate using that word because uh
You know to me that that’s who he is now it’s hard to score 44 points every single night especially on the percentage that he he did it at but he is more than capable with his ability his tenacity his skill set me the whole nine his athleticism quickness the whole
Nine yards but big game for him and in a big game environment uh Malik you know I said it before the game he is the Sixth Man of the Year he was huge for us throughout the course of the game uh but then the rest of the bench I thought the
Rest of the bench was was was really really really big for us Davon came off the bench and gave us a lift on both ends of the floor Trey l i mean his competitive spirit is unbelievable how hard he runs the floor and offensive transition he got a layup just because
He outran everybody um you know he’s diving on the ground for 50/50 balls uh he was solid defensively he was I thought he was really really good for us as well as as aen and then Keon Keon uh he impacted the game in a lot of
Different ways that don’t show up in the stat sheet so our bench was really really good tonight and you our Our Stars or our guys did what they’re supposed to do in big games like this but uh our bench was a huge factor in in in us getting a
Win Mike you talk about this the the bench what was it like man when they they were up 19 and panicked or like just take me through that when they were up 19 and the response you guys had well you know the one thing is we know it was
Early and there was a lot of basketball left um but you know like I said I thought javel just his words continu and say hey long game we got to get a stop let’s just string a couple of stops together and you know get out and run
Just doing the things that we preached uh coming into the game and our our our transition game we felt was really really good uh as well as uh our ability to crash the offensive glass we we only had nine of them but we turned those nine offensive rebounds and the 13
Second Chance points but like I said the biggest thing was just uh us knowing there was a lot of game left us not panicking at all do a lot to to our team but I got to give jaelle a lot of credit with his words uh saying the right stuff
And and then us just finding the right combination out on the floor to be able to creep back into the thing Mike was it was that first n minutes maybe a little bit of a hangover from Monday night and then that 10 run to the quarter kind of put things back on
Track yeah that’s a good question I don’t I don’t know I don’t I don’t I don’t think so you know cuz one of the things that they did they in the first eight minutes of the game they had 16 point points in the paint and you know
They do a do a heck of a job getting to the free throw line I mean we they beat us there 25 to 12 you know so they do a heck of a job uh getting to the getting to the free throw line um but they also
Do a heck of a job uh touching the paint and scoring in the paint and so for them to score 16 points in the first eight minutes and then the the next what is that 16 minutes they scored a total eight paint points so um our guys did a
A lot better job of of keeping them out of the paint and going vertical and challenging shots when we needed to and and so I thought that was the biggest thing I just thought that they were getting loose and getting into the paint and finishing and when when we tightened
That up defensively uh it it got a little harder for them Mike you just mentioned finding the right combinations and tonight that meant um dve on Keon Malik uh you went away from Kevin a little bit what were you just what was the the calculus there what
Were you seeing and and what did you decide to go with well you know this has happened in the past you know that’s why we have 15 guys you know on your roster you can go to any any guy on any given night and our guys just have to be ready
Uh to Keon’s credit you know we’ve started Keon four times this year and he’s 4-0 as a starter um he was really really good as a backup um uh but I was the one that that that sat him down and went back to Davon and davon’s been good
But uh you know as a head coach when you have guys that uh have done a good job you got to try to reward them and so we threw Keon out there uh as well as Davon and and we went on a little run and you
Know I don’t care who it is you know obviously Fox and and domas will get a little leeway Keegan and time probably will get a little leeway but but because they’re you know Fox and domas are are two guys but uh everybody else has to be
Able to bring it and and I thought Davon and and Trey and and especially Keon they they they changed the game with their energy they changed the game with their defense and doing all the little things again that don’t show up uh uh in the stattic I mean Keon had five points
But he was a plus 17 in 14 minutes you know and so you you look at the box score and there’s nothing overwhelming he had zero assists you know three rebounds there’s nothing overwhelming but he impacted the game in levels that you know if you’re not a if you’re not knowledgeable in basketball
You won’t even understand what’s the point of impact with you guys with this Lakers team that you just keep beating over and over again where do you think that you fit into their claws or they can’t match your strengths no I mean they can they scored
120 points I thought we just got to uh a point offensively where Fox’s speed took over the game and Malik’s playmaking ability whether it’s for himself or for his teammates took over the game and we end up putting up 130 points and they’ve been really really really good um uh
Defensively especially the last couple of games and so uh those two things offensively helped out a ton but you know if you think about that first quarter with them scoring 37 points we we had to get stops and you know I thought tonight and every game is a
Little different but I thought tonight uh the three guys off the bench Trey uh Keon and Davon they changed the game in that area while Fox used his speed and and and Malik uh was able to play make for us and you know again it’s different different things on different nights but
That’s what it was definitely tonight you ever that fast no I wish I was though might coming off a Monday how how much did you guys need this and then how how good uh you know is this outcome for you guys moving forward well you know
Every game for us is is a is a must win you know it’s it’s a not necessary playoff game because the preparation isn’t quite to the level of what you would what it would be going into the playoffs but you know our level of focus
To to the details has to be there uh because we’re fighting for our our our playoff position right now and you know we’ve talked about it before one loss can move you from 7th to to 9th you know just like a wind can move you from 7th
To 6 or maybe even fifth depending on who you are um so uh for us tonight tomorrow night they are all Big Time games for us no matter who’s in front of us

Malik- how gratifying is it to be the spark needed to light a fire in our team?
How exciting is it for you when you are able to get everyone involved? Like the assist to Keon Ellis? And everyone else, but it’s got to be a great feeling to ASSIST in the young fellas confidence.
Fox 🦊- whew child no questions at the moment. Just thank you for rocking with us. Thank you for being HIM while wearing a Kings. Jersey.

Sabonis- how mentally taxing is it to be top 3 centers stat wise and CONSISTENTLY showing up without acknowledgment from the league? Does it fuel you?
Just know we see you and we Rock with you! #MVP
coach Brown- happy birthday sir!
