CADE AND IVEY GO FOR 66 POINTS IN PISTONS 118-112 WIN OVER NETS! CORE FOUR ROCKS!

Welcome to the Piston fanatic I’m your host Dave Dalton and I’m excited to share my passion and perspective of our Detroit Pistons as we go on this Fantastic Voyage together I’ve been a Die Hard piston fan since days of Dave Bing and Bob laner I’ve also been the

Varsity basketball coach of a very successful program in northern Michigan thank you for listening please take a second to subscribe and like this podcast helps me out all I can say is Detroit basketball our Pistons one tonight 18 to 112 over the New Jersey Nets who had just won three out of four

They were missing a couple guys but most teams are but our uh our guards were Sensational Kade Cunningham and Jaden Ivy combined for 66 points and they were incredible and we’ve been looking forward to this all year Kade said he’s been just waiting that usually one of

Them has a great game or the other one has a great game but tonight they both did and it was a fun win fun game to watch our core four man the core for do we have something to be excited about even when even when we struggled in the

First half the core for they were outstanding and we you know our bench didn’t come play the greatest tonight except James wisman played pretty good but the rest of the team U the bench struggled and that but he still he’s staggering some guys I I still you know

It doesn’t you know work when he staggers and the one starter he leaves in with the bench group is assar I don’t think but he tried to match up aar’s minutes with Mel brid who he guarded him and he he held him to like 12 points

Tonight so anyway uh we got the Mavs on Saturday the Mavs just beat the Heat tonight and and uh Luca he is get watch him play he had his fifth consecutive triple double where he scored 30 or more points and he’s averaging 37 since the All-Star break so it’s going to be fun

As a s going to guard him I hope so that that would be fun to watch so but our our core four was just sensational and man they had some great great plays just great dunks that right at the beginning of the game the ball shot was

Running down Duran had the ball in the post iy slashes to the basket and I thought who is that guy I mean iy jumped way over the rim and and hammered it down and then um with five minutes left in the game when the game was still in

The balance cave drove right down the lane and just did a one-handed ferocious jump he said his his legs were feeling good but you know Duran had a bunch of dunks um one of the best dunks of the night was a but he he traveled just

Before he took it but he took off he had a couple dunks where he took off from way far back and he he cocked his arm back and he looked like Michael Jordan when he he dunked it on one of his big dunks so um yeah it was it was a great

Game it was F fun to watch and we but we shot ourselves in the foot we had you know too many 22 turnovers and they led to a bunch of points so the game wouldn’t have been close if we wouldn’t have turned the ball over we got off to

A great start 24 to eight and they they traveled like six times it seems like it was weird but um bench group came in and and we we went from being quite a ways ahead we we’re had like 24 to eight and then and then they caught up and by

Partway through the third quarter it was just like a four-point game so um you know and it’s not that’s not all am Monte you know it did it did tickle me though he said um he you know he has they have a back and forth about um struggle

Between a debate over staggering Cade and Ivy and he said the debate’s between me and me and he he I don’t know what s hard to struggle about I mean everybody knows that those two guys one of them needs to be on the court all the time

Then we have somebody that can create shots for other people and create shots for themselves and so it just is so much better for the offense when that happens but was interesting tonight they said on this on The Telecast that um Duren is second in in the league and uh setting

Screens that lead to scores so that’s one thing among many he did he started out the game just dominating and we went to him over and over again and then and he scored quite a bit but but then they we kind of went away from him but he did

Have too many turnovers tonight so that was unfortunate but it is you know we do have this young back court Kade and Ivy man they’re 22 years old and they’re this good and you know they had the 66 points I guess you know Isaiah thas and

Uh John Long back in 1983 in the game the highest scoring game in NBA history I’ve talked about it before was like 188 to 186 and triple overtime so they had triple overtime and they but they scored 88 points Isaiah and John Long combined

For so that you know as good as Ivy and Cade were tonight they they were a long ways from that so uh but it does you just wonder you know we’ve had we’ve been blessed with these back courts in in piston history you know we had

Obviously Isaiah and Joe and then we had chony and rip so I I mean I think you know of course everybody knows that you you know winning a championship kind of Trumps everything but they seemed to be you know chony and rip weren’t this good

This young I can tell you that much and and they are you know getting better so yeah welcome back Jen Ivy he has been struggling I think he was one for 19 on threes and then tonight he he was six for nine so welcome back and so we get

That going and we’re going to be in good shape but you know like I said the Nets were they were 25 and 37 and they were fighting for a playoff spot and they won three of their last four games and so they they you know you can say they beat

A bad inferior team but they they they won so um it it still gets disappointing I mean the score was one 109 105 with a few minutes left and Isaiah and Kade had back-to-back turnovers which you know and then then Kade next two possessions he comes down hit tough jumpers that

That secured the game and got us back in the lead so yeah lots lots to watch tonight and lots of fun to watch and anyway shout out to my granddaughter Kira she usually don’t say her name but they won their District game against a really good team and she knocked down

Two free throws with 10 seconds to go to seal the deal but she made all conference she has she shattered the school record for threes in the year she has 76 threes and she has another game Friday they’re playing for the district championship against a phenomenal team

From Belleville so good luck to the sleen Hornets but interesting thing vono um he was starting and I like him in the starting group and he doesn’t get as many good looks things don’t work out as good with when he’s not with the starters they don’t create oh shots for

Him and he’s been shooting he’s been on fire from three but he just doesn’t with that second group just doesn’t um create those shots for him so that’s I still think he he should start by but there I I don’t think this is a reason but I

Don’t know if you’re aware of if he starts two more games then it means he started enough games where his cap hold will go up two or three million do and I I would not think that the Pistons would be concerned about their cap space I

Mean we have we have the most cap space projected right now of any team and so I don’t think that they would not start him because of that but weirder things have happened I do think it’s funny you know people I just thought I’d touch on

This because I hear a lot of other podcasters I listen a lot of every piston podcast I can and other National podcasts too so I can I think do a better job for my podcast for you guys but um they talk about they’re worried about did Mike mcalla want B bought out

Or did the Pistons just buy him out and you know because if he got bought out then he could go to a contender which he did and so yeah I don’t I don’t know but like I said before he he was a good player he could he didn’t shoot the

Three he shot like 30% for us on threes but he did you know like I said there’s a difference between a guy that you know like again Isaiah Stewart he didn’t shoot hardly any threes he was 0 for one tonight so they don’t they don’t really still guard him out there even though

He’s shooting a very good percentage on the year so but mcalla played like 13 minutes a game and and I I just think people like you know they they make such a big deal about how much he brought to our team and again I’m not I’m not

Dissing him he he’s good he he helped I’m sure he helped but I think we’re over emphasizing how much help that he did so anyway we got Taj Gibson he’s 38 we just signed him today or yesterday and to a 10-day contract and he’s older than the hills and I’m not sure that

We’re going to play him I’m not sure why we brought him in but he he was awesome to watch he was tough and he played hard he can’t shoot I mean from further out than 10 feet hardly but he had that 10 or 12 foot jumper that he was really

Tough on he played he was tough for the Bulls and with for the Nicks and anyway I’m not again that’s just an interesting thing that we signed him but I know we’re going to hear these things I’ve talked about some of them before with Cade Cade is you know we’re better worse

What whatever you think of Kade he is doing historical things about scoring points and passing the ball so I I talked last episode about how he’s one of only five great players in the league this year that’s averaging 20 two points and seven assists and all the other guys

Are like Hall of Famers and then um tonight he became and it’s based on games play so you know he missed most of the last year but he was the sixth fastest in NBA history to get 25,000 2500 points in 800 assists and the big old Oscar Robertson did it the fastest

He he he a triple double for his career Allan Iverson and he was he was fun to watch and Luca who again we’re going to get to watch Saturday night it’s going to be fun Trey young and LeBron so those are those are the ones in history that

That fastest in in games played so good for Cade but uh SAR so again the core four was fabulous tonight it was you know Ivy and Duran and Kade and I and um assar all were fabulous so but assar played 43 minutes and the reason Monty

Said was he matched him up with Mel Bridges who was their St player he had like 38 Mel Bridges did the other night and so every time he was on the court they had assar on the court so when he rested assar rested so butar was six for

12 but he’s he’s he started shooting the three better but now he’s just he chucked up seven tonight that’s incredible that he shot he was two for seven again that’s the hard thing about three two two for seven is not good and it’s not helps your team win but three

For seven is good so that’s you know we’ll see what happens but he was 6 for 12 so he was you know four for five on shots which I think might have all been dunks he he gets up high he gets up quick he takes off from far away he has

That good little two-handed dunk that he does but he had seven rebounds three assists one steal one block he did have three turnovers so we a disappointing thing tonight is and I talk about it every episode is we have um our post players our forwards our front line assar Duran and

Stu have too many turnovers you know when when you’re Kade and iy and you handle the ball a lot you get a lot of usage then you are going to make a certain number Kade still had too many tonight but you still are going to make

More but for Stu to have four turnovers and zero assists and he had a solid game except for the turnovers and so that’s he doesn’t hardly touch the ball you know I’m sure he would like to touch the ball more but he only he was three for

Four shooting but in the other times he touched it you know he turned it over four times so but um steu played 32 minutes three for four like I just said 0 for one on threes two for two from the line 10 rebounds so he was a man down

There he was tough and we got this little thing where we go high low sometimes Duran forces it to him and then Duran turns it over trying to force it to Stu but you know so now Stu has a guy you know their biggest guy is guarding Duran and so Stu gets their

Second guy and so Stu’s been is able to manhandle those guys down though sometimes so he had a really nice post up tonight in the reverse pivot left-handed jump hook that he made so um he eight points he was plus eight during 30 minutes 6 for eight and he had you

Know I think four of those in the first quarter in the first few minutes it seemed like and uh sixth rate though was really good 14 rebounds and that’s TP four assists so the four assists is good but not when you have three turnovers two Steals and you know I I don’t know

If you guys have ever noticed he seems like he has heavy feet there’s some guys that say you know they say they’re light on their feet Duran seems like he’s like he’s wearing weighted boots even though you know he gets up so high when he does those thunderous dunks but when he runs

Down the floor it seems like I don’t know and I don’t know why if that you know he doesn’t get up quick enough and react quick enough on help defense to block shots quite enough I you know that’s what we all want him to do more

Of so but Cade Cunningham 38 minutes 10 for 18 he started out red hot he ended up um four for eight on three but he he made his first three I think but he was eight for n from the line he missed our only free throw and he’s like

A 90% free throw shooter but we were 21 of 20 I mean 20 of 21 and the lone Miss was by Kade Cunningham who’s our best free throw shooter but um five rebounds 11 assists so he’s not just scoring you know 32 points and 11 assists that is an

Impressive game and you know shooting High percentages his true shootings really tough and but the five turnovers is disappointing but he was plus 19 nobody was close in plus so the minutes he was on the court we won by 19 points the next closest guy was plus nine

So Kate needs a Max And for those of you that don’t think Kate’s a good player he is so um he’s not perfect and he’s young still and he’s getting better still and he’s going to be more consistent but again um but Simona vanto I vanto I

Think he’s a outstanding player and he’s had you know tonight he was not great but he was only played 23 minutes he played not very minut with the starters I like it Monte tries to get him in quick and then he play with the starters

And then he tries to let him play when he starts to sub the starters back in in the second core he tries to let him play a little bit with them then so I I I still think he’s more effective and there’s statistics out there that show

That our defense is better when you have Cade Ivy assar and Duran our defense is better when fonio plays than it is when Isaiah Stewart plays but again I you know Stuart’s a good Defender but and it’s not g he’s not going to change that because he loves Stuart and you know

It’s just lots of coaches have favorites but and there’s always good reasons to have St be one of your favorites because of his attitude and effort and so um I still think that that’s would be better but Monty praise James wisman and I listen a lot of good podcast again and I

Get to hear everybody just say how terrible he is how terrible he is and so you watch the game tonight and everybody still they just they have this blanket thing that it’s the narrative and piston talk that wisan is worthless and he is not great and he has bad games but he he

Doesn’t everybody says he’s what like what’s costing us a game he played 12 minutes tonight four for six two for two from the line three rebounds a block Monte PR him for his defense you know for he scored you know he he did good he had

Eight points and or 10 points and he yeah he had 10 points but he he play he’s playing harder if if you think that he’s just lazy not reacting he’s he’s intimidating some shots he blocked one shot after but a foul was called before so it didn’t count for a block he got

Way up little bit sad thing that’s happening is I love Sasser but and Sasser was has had huge great moments but he has struggled lately and again I talk about this all the time is that he seems to have good games or bad games but tonight he only played six minutes

So you can’t hardly get going but he’s one for four his shooting percentage has just really been bad but he’s had a lot of games where he’s been bad shooting and a lot of games where he’s been great and it just like I said last episode there’s doesn’t seem to be anything in

Between uh fornier was only played 13 minutes he was one for two two rebounds one assist two points so he was over for one on threes he didn’t get to play much so didn’t have much impact on the game but it was still a nice win we shot 52%

We didn’t have those stupid turnovers 12 for 30 from the from three which is really good for us like I said 20 of 21 from uh free throw line 50 rebounds to 29 we outrebounded them so we dominated the boards um we also dominated the turn

We had 22 turnovers to their 14 so but points in the paint 56 so that was we we we hammered them there but and again if we WI a turn it over it wouldn’t have been close and if Dennis shooter wouldn’t have been on fire it wouldn’t

Have been close but they at one point they were 11 for 22 on threes they hardly had scored they had more way more three-point baskets in the first half than they did two-point baskets but they shooter was 12 for 17 and five for seven

On threes and he had 36 31 points so you know he’s he bounced around there’s something about him that people don’t like he was a young player in Atlanta he was tored up there and then they didn’t didn’t want to keep him so they shipped

Him he went to OK Oklahoma City and he played really good there and then he he went to the Lakers and he helped him win the championship and he and he played really good there but then there there’s something that he rubs people wrong with

I it’s got to be his personality or his attitude I don’t know what it is exactly but he he was like the outstanding player the summer in the FBA Cup Tournament when his team Germany won the the whole thing and so anyway interesting what happens in the NBA but

I’m just um ha happy our team won got their double digit wins now 10 wins we get to play Saturday against Luca and get to see Kyrie play and they’re you know they’re fighting for their playoffs so they’re going to play with everything they got I think our guys are going to

Be ready they got a positive thing going tonight we keep our turnovers down and you know they’re not great on defense they they’ve added some really good players and they they’ve really helped their s their roster so we’ll we’ll see what happens but I’m excited to watch

That game and thank you for listening be the reason that someone feels heard and let’s go Pistons beat the maves

Piston’s Core Four put on a show why the future is bright!

  1. You are the best pistons podcast on the market. Some of these younger guys got more subs at the moment, maybe they can relate to the fan base more on a friend level or just been at it longer, but you are killing it with how informative you are. Keep it up dude. You know your stuff about basketball. By the time pistons make the playoffs you will be on top.

  2. Monty finally got thru to the brain pan of one of the young Pistons that shoving white powder up your nose is not gonna get you minutes ON court…might get you minutes IN court. Also, coming back to your room at 330AM after sticking your tube-steak into a local porker is not going to enhance your conditioning….but YOU know better than coaches with decades of NBA experience who are around the players 24/7….right?

  3. I like your opinion on wisemen to. He's taking way to much blame for a guy who is also only 21 22 years old. He's been playing way better this last half of the season. Only thing he's still not any good at is protecting the rim.

  4. As Thompson improves we could get rid of those little guards and play bigger at all times that would make a difference neither one of our little guys are pure point guard so they are waste of time sasser if he's not going to be a deadly shooter we could do better without him.

  5. Ivey was the missing piece all year. Luckily he seems to have overcame the Monty problem that led us to such a terrible year. Too good to be held down.

  6. the future is bright for us pistons and i hope the growth this season makes our core 4 want to play together for years to come

  7. As a Nets fan, I'm kinda lost on what the teams plans are. Cause they aren't in rebuild mode, and they are actually trying to win games. However they still stink and are stuck in the mud. They should've never traded Durant. Last year with Durant after firing Nash, the team was 25-8 under Jacque Vaughn before Durant got injured. Just dissappointing.

  8. What's up coach from a Pistons fans since 69. I've been under the weather the last few weeks and it does my health good to see the guys win. Living on the East Coast I get a rare opportunity to watch them play. I'm watching a replay of the game as I post this as I missed the first 3 quarters during the live broadcast. I hope they keep it going.

Besides, I'm getting weary of posting conspiracy theories probably along with any and everybody else that reads them. I had a couple ready to go this week but I said 'nah forget it. Here's something I haven't said in I don't know long. Let's Go Pistons!

  9. The athleticism of Ivey, Ausar and Duran is off the charts. Even Cade surprises me at times with how he gets off the ground at the hoop. Can we put the questions about whether "Cade and Ivey can play together" to bed finally?

  10. Wiseman and sassor need more minutes wiseman looks way better setting screen boxing out rebounding and guarding the paint duren need more post looks and isolation on the block some expand his offense game

  11. Good win tonight. Great screens by Duren and Wiseman to free up the guards for open jump shots, and they knocked them down. One thing to watch, Ausar is growing more confident in his 3 ball. If he can get to Stewart's average, we are a winning tram.

  12. Ausar is becoming a much better offensive player. He’s looking more and more comfortable shooting the ball and making plays. If he becomes something close to a Jaylen Brown we can be dominant.

  13. The league is propping up Luka the way they did Harden. He’s gaming the system with foul calls. And he’s so talented he doesn’t need to play that way. I hope the competition committee curbs some of this for next year letting guys trick their way into fouls.

  14. What we've been looking at over the last few games is what we should have been looking at all season. This young team should have been able to get used to each other and develop while assessments are made. Instead we've wasted two-thirds of the season.
