NBA Gametime | “Jalen Brunson IS BACK” – Knicks stun rolling Magic to reclaim East’s No. 4 seed
In nearly 12 years just a miserable offensive night for the magic 34% shooting six of 26 from three-point range and 74 points you heard Kenny Albert say it that’s the fewest points any team has scored this season so far what year is this it’s like 1994 yeah that score anyway so uh that
Game which New York avoids a season sweep to Orlando Orlando still wins the season series but as you can see they flip-flopped in the standings because when the night began it was Orlando 4 New York 5 this is a potential first round series and what could be a grind
It out kind of series for the magic and the Knicks yeah and and both teams play um I would say a very conservative style their defensive first you know their defense first oriented uh and I and I think that if this is a matchup right it it definitely
Will come down believe it or not I’m gonna say this and people gonna be like oh no no but it it’s G to come down to foul shooting and turnovers right because these two teams I think are so evenly matched defensively the team that can get to the foul line the most make
The most free throws and not turn the ball over in that series if it’s a four five series I think that’s the team that wins the series I don’t think that’s crazy and I don’t I don’t think that’s that unusual for a playoff series that’s where Details Matter right free throw
Shooting matters turnovers matter yeah but people like the the big the big things I get the Big Shiny they want say like oh this guy needs to have for 30 points got need but it and when I look at these two teams in the playoff series
I think it comes down to turnovers and free throws because they’re that evenly matched well in Orlando you know pal and Carol fron Vagner are their big scorers but they’re not 40o threats on most nights and as a team they’re one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the
NBA I believe they hit the fewest per game in the NBA right now so it really is defense for them and keeping things tight yeah but to to Isaiah’s Point Matt fron goes downhill Paulo goes downhill somebody’s getting in foul trouble yeah and they’re very good at that there you
Go goes back to his point where people going to get caught up in the glitch but that style of play you live at the free throw line the glitch is does Jaylen Brunson prove he’s that much Bor than jayen sugs right call excuse me Cole Anthony in those guard because they
Don’t have the experience jayen Brunson got Dallas playoff experience and now beating Cleveland last year playoff experience that’s the glit that New Yorkers will be able to talk about that he’s the key guy in the series much needed win for the New York Knicks who
Came in Losers of eight of their last 11 and of course they’re very beat up right now OG Anon noi’s been out with an elbow injury Julius randle’s been out for an extended period of time with a shoulder injury Mitchell Robinson’s been out all season basically with an ankle injury
But they did get Brunson back tonight fortunately for them only missed a single game with a knee he came back and scored 26 on 11 of 19 hopefully their their bigs can get back to help out harinstein because if jaylen’s going to be the guy which we all love what he
Does but he’s got to have that support Z certain nights were not going to shoot the ball well so that rebounding and Miss free throws the little nuances of the game you need your bigs there to get those extra opportunities you need those bigs too because as as we see now and
I’m and I’m noticed the officials they’re letting the games go a little bit more the games are becoming a little bit more physical there’s a little bit more holding and and guys are being able to get in into each other like hand checking and everything else even though those rules aren’t supposed
To be implemented until next year I think right now what I’m starting to see is a little bit more aggressive play being allowed from the defense as as we look at the score tonight 9874 neither team cracked a 100 yeah not even close in Orlando’s case precious
Auua one of those big guys with 15 and 14 and here he was after the game thoughts there from a former Defensive Player of the Year Draymond Green who won it back in 2017 I guess the question for you two with all the information we have out there where you
Can take a player kind of remove him from the entire equation and kind of see at least statistically his impact on the floor how do you separate a player defensively from his team’s performance perance in this case Victor wanyama you know uh it it’s it’s very difficult and and I
Let me say I think Michael has the most difficult job of everybody in terms of trying to you know figure out who the MVP is going to be this year but on the defensive side of the ball you know trying to take you know one player out
And just single him out in this era and say you know you’re you’re great defensively because you know you can stop somebody from scoring scor I think with Victor it’s it’s a little different and I’m going say the victors uh the Durants the giannis’s uh these guys now are required
To do so much on the offensive side of the ball too so when you scoring assisting and then stopping people from scoring that’s different than you just being my job is just to defend shut people down and stop people but when you coming to the table and you getting 20 points
You’re getting 10 rebounds you’re getting three or four five assists then you blocking shots then you stopping your man from scoring timeout that’s different we haven’t had too many players in all League who can do that so Victor does need to be acknowledge for what he’s doing because he’s putting out
So much effort on the offensive side where most defensive players of the year you know they normally just do it on the defensive side of the ball but they’re not required responsible to score 20 25 points also with that Yannis Michael Jordan some of the exceptions Jord you
Know but a lot of times that’s the case right Yannis and MJ I can think off top right here was ever in the MVP conversation defensive play well def but in the same year though sometime like they be in the same year of defensive player of the year and MVP but that’s
Elite stuff that’s right right it’s a different level versus as much as we love the kimbe the kimbe was no no no no first and okay he was fourth option on the offensive man you have to worry about him as much for me though mat and
Zeke for our viewers it’s his impact I remember when nuk Bo was in our league May rest easy you ran your offense on the other side of the court because you didn’t want that seven s dude hang he was changing the rules he’d have one foot in the paint like oh there’s nudy
Let’s run this play run away from him that’s what I see with with whendy so I I’ve been saying it since can we add alterations to our stat sheet cuz every game I’ve done Matt I think we’ve done a game before guys are double pumping reverse lay uping fading away to me it’s
Just like a block cuz percentages come down I think that’s the argument when the voters are saying well team percentages go down well let’s put alterations to the stat sheet so people understand why guys are doing all this because they don’t want that joker to block a shot well that that’s some of
What you can isolate if you dig into the numbers a little bit he’s a 3.4 blocks per game that leads the NBA that would be the highest total in8 years often as someone who votes on these things I don’t often put a ton of weight just on
Block shots but in his case to your point he’s created a whole Zone around him in which players have started to figure out oh I just can’t shoot here this is this this territory is some place I can’t shoot let me ask both of you this question if we didn’t look at
Him as an offensive player and just strictly a defensive player would this conversation be different I don’t know because because Gober that’s a defensive playero defensive player Draymond I love him to death but known for his defense right so you know you would we would be having a different conversation if this
Guy wasn’t scoring the basketball too and I think the scores get penalized because they score in their defend but you know there’s been a couple of cases where we we rewarded them you know Giannis MJ I don’t know how many others there have been not many but not many but normally
It’s just the guys who just defend and don’t score right so I guess the qu the other question is how much should a team’s in this case defensive success matter relative to the player it’s hard to isolate one defensive player from a scheme sometimes wean weany is maybe a
Little different case uh but you look at the last four winners and whether their team has ranked defensively those are all top three defenses in the the NBA the Spurs as we just talked about with Michael are nowhere near that number but you again you can separate out wamba’s
Number from that and they’re a whole lot better with him on the floor but that’s where I do agree with Draymond at though because Draymond does have a point in terms of all these people that we just mention and just name their teams were winning right we we’ve never given a
Defensive player of the year award to someone whose team wasn’t winning and for the most part and that’s where definitely has a point and he makes a a an accurate distinction H I’m not mad at his perspective at either but we cannot Short change a guy because the team he
Got drafted by was that bad but his impact on the game is still that strong so I think we can’t Overlook that as well yeah oh it ain’t my fault did I do that by the way I said last year just after watching him on tap from France I would have drafted a
Number one overall based entirely on defense whether he play the offensive end or not there you go if you remember I I predicted that he would he would win more defensive play of the Year Awards okay fore fore the past is a dream tomorrow is a new day
We I’ve known death so I know how precious life is Dron Lane to is under attack the past is a dream tomorrow is a new day I’ve known death so I know how precious life is the past is a dream tomorrow is the new day attack even if I forget my name I’ll

The playoffs are different from the regular season. Knicks vs Magic in the playoffs would not be the same result the Knicks will dominate that series.
To compare a unhealthy Knicks to a healthy Knicks is crazy. Everybody kno if Knicks healthy magics dnt have no chance. I’ll pull on my money in the bank on that
