Last night, Wiggins, JK, & Klay were DeRozan’s primary defenders. Wiggins defended DeRozan for 19.9 partial possessions, JK for 16.8 partial poss., & Klay 13.6 partial poss. Not only was Klay the only to hold him scoreless, he held him to just one FGA and forced DeMar’s only turnover.

Partial possessions in this context refers to partial possession player tracking data tracked and gathered by the NBA, “which captures which offensive player each defender was defending for each portion of each defensive possession. This better captures real defensive assignments and switches, help defense, etc. than saying that each defensive player defended one offensive player each possession.”

  1. Klay is still a damn good defender against players that aren’t extremely quick or a lot bigger than him. But even then, he’s shown he can handle some bigs pretty damn well

Klay is still a very good defender for certain matchups. Smart, good hands ands understands positioning

This doesn’t tell us much. zero context.
*The TO was Steph helping and drawing a charge.
*The FG attempt, had TJD totally over help and the bulls got the board.
I love Klay and his defense iq has been great this year but come on man. This stat is dumb. Please respond with a retort-

  4. Klay has always been a good defender vs dudes who try to draw fouls to create space. Klay doesn’t bite. He’s the guard version of Looney.

  5. I think a lot of people forget that at one point in Klay’s career, many were calling him one of the best 2-way players. The man can defend.

Not sure why did they switched and put JK and Moody on him. DeRozan was cooking them. Underrated defense as usual.

“But JK is an elite defender and Klay is washed up trash” half this sub whines to themselves as they read this.

Klay had been all defensive 2nd team. Now that his minutes has been adjusted down, he can pay more energy on defensive end

Klay is a net negative playing next to him on defense. When you play next to someone you know you can’t trust to help or will be blown by it effects ur risk taking. Gotta watch off ball.

People sometimes forget prime Klay D was the reason why our small line up worked. Unfortunately also the reason why our defense is not working against some teams right now since no one can really replace prime Klay in our system…

Looking for the morons who were saying Klay was washed up a few weeks ago.

  12. Those stats tell me jk was getting cooked defensively in the paint and at the 3 pt line. Plus the 4 and1s he gave up. Klay was not the defensive issue last night.

Klay has guarded them all his life. It’s a learning moment for these kids. Hope Wiggs mins restrictions will be lifted off for the next game

You also couldn’t touch Demar without a foul.

Klay used to be one of the best in perimeter defenders in the league, he’s still got dem shifty hands!

  16. nateoak10

Klay has done this A LOT this season. But for some reason has the bad defense tag.

  17. Brokengan

I swear Klay must pay some dudes go to post these.

Wiggs not too bad considering he’s coming off like 2 weeks away from the team

  19. When klay can keep up with someone he’s quick enough to guard basically no one scores on him it feels like
