Hi Steve um any reason why you changed your starting lineup when it was only like less than five minutes in and the game was still tied I’m sorry say it again why you change like you changed like you I guess you went to to the bench when

You when you had less than uh five minutes into the game when it was still tied why did I do that yeah um those were the uh rotations that we wanted to get to I think they hit 17 threes which you know they’re not a team that that

Hits many threes do you feel like those were defensive breakdowns or did you I mean were you trying to get I like the way the game started you know soan hit two threes which um you don’t expect that but um I I thought our defense was

Really good that’s why we started uh the way we did with that lineup I wanted to have uh Draymond and and Trace out there together and um I think when we subbed it was nine to nine our defense was fine but as the game went on we had multiple

Breakdowns they got to the rim at will and we gave up you know 28 free throws and 17 through you got to stop something and I thought they got anything they wanted all night so it was a tough night for us defensively see what was the

Hardest part of this game for you to to to to endure um all of it it was tough it was tough we just never had any traction in the game I didn’t feel like we had uh confidence or energy um I thought their pace and their uh their movement bothered us and then

We had some breakdowns and just felt like we were never never really in the game what what do you feel like didn’t work offensively in the first half where did those struggles come from well it’s uh you know obviously it’s you know we’re playing some lineups that um

Haven’t played together a whole lot um and with Steph out it changes things dramatically for us in terms of um you know what he provides not only with the shooting but the spacing and the gravity that that uh puls defense is uh side so they did a good job of just staying in

Front of us and um I didn’t think we moved the ball particularly well is this are you seeing some kind of uh growing pains with the youth right now what did you say um yeah I mean we’re we’re playing a lot of young guys we started two of them and um this is

All part of it you know you got you have to um you have to go through multiple Seasons to really um understand the different games that are going to happen the different uh Styles you know different uh emotional swings there’s all all of that has to be

Experienced um by young guys in order to develop and grow and understand how to win so that’s yeah it’s it’s all part of it Steve Jonathan was really able to get you going and it’s to start the fourth quarter and attack the rim and but it

Seemed like even when you got a little momentum they they seem to answer with a big shot or or did something just tough to to to make a stop after some of those those good stretches yeah we didn’t we just didn’t ever establish anything defensively they shot 51% from the floor

And from three got to the foul line so we you know we just never quite um you know got Traction in the game defensively which um allowed them you know every time we tried to make a run they’d hit a three they’d hit another

Three and uh you know it’s back to 12 15 so which couldn’t get there you mentioned the spacing and gravity without step um I assume that’s why you played clay to start the second half and how much do you need to sort of create that space for Jonathan and others to to

Operate yeah I mean that’s you know we’ve been starting the way we have over the last six weeks um because of the impact that uh that Steph has for um JK um you know getting downhill and um wigs you know same thing so without him there’s there aren’t as as many driving

Lanes for sure so it’s it’s different and that’s why I didn’t just plug Chris in for Steph and keep the same starting lineup I felt like we needed to do something different so my main motivation for the starting lineup was to get off to a great defensive start I

Wanted to set a tone with a really good defensive lineup see uh see how we could score uh it was a little bit of a struggle to score first five minutes I think as I said I think it was N9 to n but I liked I liked the defense I wanted

That tone set but we couldn’t maintain it how much can clay sort of provide that gravity yeah I mean clay does obviously but um you know modern NBA um you know the way everybody plays you got um you know you need you need multiple spacers to really open up the floor and

Um unfortunately the last couple games we we just haven’t been able to knock down shots and and do that what have you seen from Andrew just since he got back the last few games here um you know he hasn’t been it as best but um you know

He’s getting his rhythm and timing back I’m glad he got to 26 minutes and uh hopefully that’ll help him for the road trip thank you hi Jonathan uh you were able to get get going offensively attacking the Rim Early there in in the fourth was it just

Hard for you guys to get stops after that to get you know to keep those runs and momentum going uh I think uh honestly L up a little bit uh starting the game uh and uh got that momentum it was kind of just tough to like get back uh of course uh second

Half we came we kind of like uh try to do our base to get back in the game but it was a little bit lit they hit 17 threes on you know better than 50% what what was kind of the breakdowns defensively for them to get so many open looks uh also

Was just connected as much on defense uh we did not scramble as much uh um I think that’s just one thing we got to do next uh next game and just upcoming games just be connected at the very beginning of the game and just lock in where uh where do you feel that

Steph’s absence like where did you feel it the most tonight not having Steph where did you feel that the most uh we got uh everybody coming off the bench starring anybody missing everybody there feel like we have a great team to compete against anybody uh and of course we’re going to feel step

Absence but there can be a reason because Steph not playing that’s why we’re losing uh obviously he comes in he change the game but just as missing him don’t mean we got to go out there and lose else that was quick all right we should hey Trace uh Steve said he wanted

To set a defensive tone with this starting five tonight where do you think that that tone started to break down um I mean I think at the start of the game it was a 122 or 129 um but at the end of the day I felt

Like they got a few easy horse shots that got them going and they got comfortable and then uh throughout the game they were running transition and just sending ball screens and um miscommunications and breakdowns and they were getting easy shots and so um our defense broke down and that’s

Something we’re going to have to look at the film and fix uh where do you feel like the challenges offensively in the first half came from um I just think that uh obviously without Steph um you’re going to go through a little bit of struggle at the

Beginning of the game trying to figure out what’s going to work but at the same time we got Chris coming in um clay um we’ve all played together so um we just got to get get organized and get going quicker um but at the end of the day I

Felt like after our offense and after the first few minutes our offense was fine but um we just we just got to get going quicker what have you kind of learned as a rookie about just how how long an NBA season is and how many kind of twists

And and turns it can take yeah um that’s something a coach explained to us at the beginning of the year um some of the Vets have said the same thing that you’re going to have ups and you’re going to have Downs you can’t get too

High can’t get too low um so at the end of the day you just got to keep a level ahead and just take it one game at a time how are you guys feeling when you look at the standings with the clock ticking on the ability to move up um

We we look at the next game um you can’t go you can’t win six seven games in a row without winning the first one and that’s what we say before every road trip we take we say we got to win the first one before we can win all of them

So we take it one game at a time and then we go from there when you say they hit a couple horse shots ear they are you just talking like wide open yeah just wide open early shots like to get them feeling good and get them going so

What what were the breakdowns on their three-point shooting cuz I know you know I think they came like 29th and three so I you kind of want to give some of that up but I mean was it too much did yeah I think too much obviously uh I think

Sohan hit one and he was a guy that obviously we weren’t looking to close out super heavy to Zach Collins hit one in the second quarter and they’re guys that you they can shoot threes but late close second jump type of players and they hit them and so but that just goes

To show what we started our game planing early when one guy hits a shot then everyone starts feeling good great I think you guys were like 3 33 and8 at home last season I think you’re 17 and 17 this year what what do you think kind of is there anything tangible

You could say that’s been the difference to be honest no just how the cookie crumbles sometimes clay the way the way J kind of gave you guys some some spark coming out of the gate in the fourth attacking the rim like that is it disappointing to be able to not get

Some stops key stops there at times when you could have grabbed some momentum a little bit and maybe run with that yeah it’s disappointing I mean give credit to the Spurs they shot the heck out the ball 51 half% from three and uh unfortunate not at the office for

Everybody but John um was great tonight at The Rim and hopefully he takes that same uh approach when we see them on Monday and uh just a just a bad loss though I mean just not not good but we’ll uh flush it and uh bounce back

Monday clay how does it change sort of the geometry on the court without Steph and the spacing and how much do you take it on yourself to kind of create that space and make you know and sort of replace some of the threes that he he makes usually Well Steph uh makes our

Life easier everybody out there is life’s easier cuz he uh demands so much attention and for myself when I’m out there I don’t try to put more pressure on myself just rather be myself and shoot open shots and create shots as well as make the basketball play uh I

Mean tonight was unfortunate I got myself in foul trouble and had three turnovers that’s inexcusable and I’ll be uh better better Monday oh heck yeah I see it sort of off topic uh sorry uh our colist did piece on Roger feder did you have any interaction with him today

While he was here and I know there’s a ping pong history there right uh Roger is a great person I’ve met him in Shanghai in 2018 and uh he’s just super down to earth especially with all the success he’s had he doesn’t have to be

And uh he’s just really cool guy and I watched him my whole life growing up um it was awesome to have him in the building unfortunately we couldn’t get a win for him but uh it was just cool to be in the presence of greatness and he’s

Just such a humble likable person and it was awesome to see him here in San Francisco nice that
