110 to 108 just an inexcusable loss David I don’t even really know what happened uh but this was a wild ending the heat didn’t Trail the entire second or third quarters the Wizards though they go on a 21 to7 run in the fourth quarter to go up 10 with less than 3

Minutes left and then the heat closed the game on an 80 run it looked like they they had a few chances to win this game um after making that run Duncan Robinson um during this 80 run Duncan Robinson makes free throws T Rosier droves uh drove through Washington’s

Defense for a layup after he had been kind of fumbling and turning the ball over for most of the fourth quarter Jimmy Butler gets fouled on this reverse layup he makes his free throws then just a crazy sequence where Duncan Robinson misses two wideopen three-point attempts

But Caleb Martin gets the last one uh with a tip in to make it a two-point game with uh 32 seconds left and then Kyle kozma who was awesome tonight uh fouls Tera Rosier on a spin move going to the basket extends that arm basically slaps Rosier across the face with it

Offensive foul he get the ball back with 12 seconds left Duncan gets another shot attempt he gets free for another three-pointer to win the game again he misses it bounces straight to Jimmy Butler who has a chance to win the game with his own three-pointer his misses

Off the back iron and then time expires that’s it I know it was a close game David but the Wizards had won 10 games all season going into this one I don’t think there’s any debate this is the worst loss of the season for Miami without a doubt and the flurry at the

End there doesn’t matter like to be honest with you I watched it and I I was invested in it because yeah positive outcome certainly benefits us and certainly benefits Heat fans but I looked at those last couple of minutes and you know what it should never have

Gotten to this point like you’re losing to a bad team that was on the road a team that has struggled to find their shooting stroke a team that struggles defensively and Miami looked lost disinterested tired bored like not completely engaged for 46 minutes that they turned it on in the last two

Minutes doesn’t mean anything and it was a horrible demonstration of a lack of understanding something that this team is not known for like they understand what’s at stake they know the mission they know the assignment almost every season that’s what they’re known for the accountability the heat culture and everything else like that

When their games are so important at this point in the season when you’re trying to fight your way up to standings and you’ve got New York fighting uh Orlando or in or or I can’t remember exactly who it was they’re fighting another team that’s in the same race

Right now easn conf Nick Sixers tonight and P and magic and Pacers magic so all these losses are impactful you’ve only got 18 games left in the season and you can’t seem to muster enough energy in the first quarter second quarter third quarter for most of the fourth until it

Matters until you finally realize hell we’re down 10 with two minutes left and maybe we should figure it out like there’s a lot of reasons here but I think they really just they completely fumbled the opportunity to continue to build something up the two losses in Oklahoma

City the most recently in Dallas those were understandable you’re on the road Dallas a team that look you know was looking to try and find a way to win after having lost several straight yeah Oklahoma City one of the best teams in the NBA that wasn’t the case you’re back

Home after a two game Road Trip and if it was a six-game road trip or even longer I could understand the fatigue and yes Eric spoler mentioned they played five games and seven nights guess what most of the NBA has to I understand that and I know it’s easy for me to say

That if it wasn’t the Wizards I would I would buy it more as an excuse like I don’t like they you were a little bit like that team stinks man like that’s the most unserious team in the NBA and they weren’t good for most they like

They weren’t good for much of this game I look I I know that the heat were leading this game for for Mo most of the game like I said did not trail of their it to win it yeah I was gonna like basically like that was the same point I

Was about to make like if they were playing even a 500 team they have no shot in this game ever right and I they led by double digits and there were times like okay like they would they would get up 10 points or 11 points and

Then Washington would kind of make a run to get back into it and then Miami would answer with their own run and I just thought okay you know what it’s not going to be an inspiring win but at least you get the W after two losses on

The RO on the road you come home you get the W going into a big game against the nuggets on Wednesday night and no instead they dropped this one and this was so unlike the Heat this season and I know that Heat fans think that their team always plays down to the

Competition hey news flash every fan base thinks that their team plays down to the competition cuz you play a team like Washington you’re like we should be blowing these teams out by 25 points points it’s just not how the NBA works that said the Heat have been taking care

Of business against teams like Washington all year they are 18 and8 against teams with a bottom 10o differential cleaning the glass keeps this stat and I think it’s a great stat 18 and8 against teams this season with a bottom 10o differential that’s one of the best marks in the league they take

Care of business they they when it comes to beating bad teams on the flip side they are not good against teams with the top in the top 10 in point differential they are three and 17 against those teams the only reason I point that out is because you have to win these games

Your whole resume for the Heat this year is built on beating the Wizards and teams like the Wizards and it kind of made this a must-win game if that’s sort of what you’re building your playoff case on right and you’re trying to climb the standings with these kinds of wins

Now the heat still have one of the easiest schedules in the league going forward it’s a big game against Denver on Wednesday night but then it’s two games against Detroit after that those should be get right games but if they play anything like this then

Like a Get Right game a win against even the pit entirely here at home like I mean Detroit has been a very Plucky team much much better look I’m like 15 feet away like 15 feet away from the Wizards locker room they might be walking past

Me right now as I’m saying this they’re not a good team they haven’t looked like they cared I don’t know that they look like they cared for most of this game and they just turned it on late they wind up getting some big shots from kba

And kper and and they looked really much better down the stretch and Miami was like oh wow all of a sudden we’re down double digits as the game nears its end and it’s run at the end and it was just yeah the heat getting out of their

Offense it was fumbling the ball it was a lot of turnovers and it was Washington taking advantage of it and then the Wizards turned into a pumpkin again for that final two minutes and then they started turning the ball over and fumbling it and offensive fouls and

Missing easy shots and all and just doing all everything that they could wrong and that allowed Miami like there was a stretch where the Wizards didn’t even get a shot off for like three straight possessions and that’s what helped Miami go on that 80 run there at

The end um but you can’t lose this game and yet here they are and they have lost this game now they were helped a little bit tonight by the fact that the Pacers Lo uh won in Orlando so that keeps Miami uh within Striking Distance of the magic

Who are the number five seed it’s still only a game and a half that separates Miami who is now at number eight uh ver uh between them and Orlando at number five we’ll see what happens between the Sixers and the Knicks that game is in the third quarter right now as we’re

Recording this but um all those things aside like now you’re the heat you’ve lost three straight games and I’m with you the first two excusable this one inexcusable but still it’s three straight losses either way you slice it and a potential fourth on Wednesday yeah against maybe the best

Team in the NBA coming off a big win against Boston and feeling itself right now A team in Denver that’s trying to make a little bit of a push maybe for the number one seed in the Western Conference like these games matter for the Nuggets right now so four straights

Not going to look good no it won’t um I know we’re kind of pushing it here in terms of the segment and there’s a lot to break down here and maybe we can get into some of the reasons for the loss in the next segment because I think there’s a lot to break

Down there I think as far as individual play overall play from the team itself and maybe even some players that might have been able to contribute as a couple of injured players that were played heavily in the rotation were not available for Miami but still not much

Jump into a few more player specific takeaways here uh we’ve been talking about bam he’s been struggling lately coming into this game he had 14 points and nine rebounds in Dallas kind of a pedestrian H hum game for him in that one and then against the thunder on

Friday night that second night of a back toback five points on one for nine shooting he hasn’t had a double double in six games uh seven games now I think uh with this one he had 16 or or he he had the double the double double tonight 16 points and

16 rebounds but you and I were texting Kyle kma they started Kyle kma at Center like that’s as underwhelming a matchup as you could possibly this wasn’t going up against nicoa yic it wasn’t going even against Chad holam it was should have been 32 points and 16 rebounds you

Know and you and I were texting dur in this game and and you know go like let’s go beond the box score here like he just didn’t look right how did he look in person not good um and you know I saw a lot of positive interaction on social

Media as far as like oh Bam’s got you know 10 boards early on or he’s got eight eight points and seven rebounds in the first eight minutes and that was like the Miami Heat Twitter account putting that out and I was like all right whatever yeah but like balls were

Just sailing through right past him like he was just kind of like lunging towards them as a pass was made and he just wasn’t able to Corral them and we’ve seen bam he’s not Kevin Love in terms of like grip strength but at the same time like

He can he’s not want to just let the ball kind of weakly pass right by him he was 04 at the free throw line that’s the weird bio who shoots 78% from the line you know for most of the season and he went 0 for four and he’s struggling with

That of late and bad passes from him not able to make good catches uh not able to power past Denny aaja uh not able to get past Kyle kma at one point he had I think Cory kissper on him and he wasn’t able to back him down like this was very

Ypical of what bambo has been like for most of the season and I to me honestly it looks like it looks like somebody who’s TI it looks like somebody who hasn’t slept well and uh I didn’t even stick around for Bam’s postgame media conference but I’m not sure that he

Would cop to it because that’s just not who bam is he’s like oh you know everybody’s tired at this point in the season we all gotta play through it etc etc but he just looks he reminds me of like when my son was born and you’re having those moments where you’re like

Wherever the baby sleeps you got to sleep but it really totals up to like seven hours over two days and it’s like yeah I remember what sleep was like and everything’s kind of in a haze because it’s like you’re dealing with baby you’re trying to catch some sleep you

Don’t even care about eating anybody you got to eat and it’s like all these different factors that’s what it looked like to me it was it looked like somebody in this kind of sleep paralysis and the fogginess and Haze that comes with sleep deprivation and I don’t know

I I don’t know if there’s again fatigue considering everything he’s had to put up with over the course of the season I know a lot of our listeners and fans will say oh quit making excuses for bam I’m not I know that bam contributes in a

Lot of different ways but this is not the version of bam that the Heat have come to expect and it was his worst performance of the season in my opinion he’s tired it was yeah I mean this has been the worst stretch uh for him over

The season he’s exhausted and yep um he looks it and he looks it and and the free throw shooting is such a great indicator of that when he when you’re short breing those free throws over and over that’s tired arms that’s tired legs that’s tired everything his free throw

Stance doesn’t look right he looks like he’s just sort of going through the motions he’s doing as little as possible I mean he just looks tired he looks like you use the parenting thing he looks like somebody who’s been in the gym for two hours and and and his muscles have

Reached failure and he’s just he can’t even do the machine things anymore you know what I mean like he goes from the uh going into this game four of eight from the free throw line in Dallas um and then he was three of four in

Oklahoma City and then he was what 0 for uh two for six tonight from the free throw line like it’s just been too late in a game when he found the energy you know kudos to him for that and was a clutch situation there but he got blown

By defensively a couple times in this game in a in a way that you never see with Bam by again players on the Washington Wizards I don’t mean to be too disrespectful but that team is not good and they don’t have very many good players and they don’t and they

Certainly don’t have players that should be blown by bam I’m not even talking about Jordan P it was like Cory kissper at some point is blown by bam and AIO I’m like what on Earth is happening here Denny AIA I think got got a Blow by on

Him once too and um it I don’t know what’s going on and it’s not even a minutes thing for him I thought that maybe with Kevin love being out that he’s been playing more minutes but his minutes have ticked up just a little bit not as much like post Allstar it’s like

35 minutes a game pre- Allstar it was like 34.6 minutes a game like we’re not talking about a huge difference in terms of the minutes but I do think we’re talking about just the wear and tear of the season and this is a guy who talked

To Brian wior uh earlier in the year like it was like a December interview or whatever it was and he was talking about how he was he was approaching this season like that Marathon like I got to make sure my body is right by the time

We get to June in the NBA Finals because I was so worn out by the time I had to go head-to-head with Nikola yic and dude it’s March and this guy looks worn out now that’s not to say that okay yes it’s been five uh five games and seven nights

They they are back home it’s been a it’s been a long stretch for bam maybe he hit a wall and maybe I think he can get kind of get through that wall and find your second win so to speak this season like I’m not telling I’m not here saying that bam season is

Over but he needs to find it right and that’s a big reason why Miami is in this three- game slump is that it hasn’t been great Jimmy Butler games but it really hasn’t been good bam out of Bio games yeah and I think that kind of speaks

Again U maybe this sounds like excuse making but uh it sounds to me there’s so much else that he does in terms of being the Hub on offense and and the focal point on defense and being able to switch and do so much and being able to

Guard down low and then have to go up to the you know to the beyond the perimeter to pick up some are they asking them to do too much I I I think it’s fair if again if you’re wearing down in March like it’s fine look it you know at the

End of the day losing streak but it’s okay but it always picks yeah it does but what if he hits another wall in May that could cost the heat of series no no no doubt um and I think that’s why you go after a guy like uh Damen Lillard

Again you know and that’s why you’re missing right certain players that could contribute as bucket Getters you know this is we we’ve made that argument before and it Bears repeating like you look for somebody to can carry the brunt of the offense so that you can leave

Jimmy and Bam to do what they do Best Around the Edges you know the things on the fringes that makes them so effective as players you know what bam does defensively and trying to pick up everybody and make plays and everything else like that set screens you know he’s

Getting run into a hundred times a game and you know that’s a lot and that takes something after and then it’s like oh well well you better go 15 of you know 28 from the floor as well and and and put up you know 30 plus points and it’s

Like well that’s not realistic you know and that’s why I think there’s a what what we’re seeing right now so I I don’t know I I eventually he’ll get some rest uh I wouldn’t be surprised if he misses a game here or there over the course of

The next 18 but you don’t have a lot of time left so I don’t know you can’t really afford to sit him up even against you can’t even afford to sit him against the Detroit Pistons like we’re talking about two game good luck telling them good luck telling them hey we’re gonna

Sit you because he’s got I a lot of money on the line potentially if he makes one of these all NBA teams for the super max extension like you tell bam hey we’re going to sit you for a couple games thinking like okay then I’m just like I’m one you know tweaked hamstring

Away from being ineligible for these end of season awards and then that’s going to cost me 12 to 15 65 game rule abolish the 65 game rule um did Eric Spa’s decisions possibly cost the heat the game tonight we’ll talk about that next here on locked on heat

Robinson flared out Duncan I’m sorry Jimmy Butler forced to switch for Duncan Robinson Duncan Robinson then flares out and had a open look at three to me David uh I don’t think it was a bad play call necessarily I think you wanted to get a quick shot and get bam manab bio a

Chance to get an offensive rebound if if it was if it was a miss but it was weird because Duncan Robinson’s Miss uh it rebounded out far and ended up going back to Jimmy Butler beyond the three-point line but bam had the position under the basket like if

That was just if that just sort of came off the the basket and in into the restricted area bam maybe has a put back there and we’re going into overtime so I didn’t really have a problem with the play call regardless of SPO having a couple timeouts left to burn I didn’t

Really have a problem with it at the end there neither did I and I certainly uh I don’t have a problem going for three either like you know you have Duncan Robinson you know yeah we didn’t talk about him you could have lumped him into that’s why I

Think fatigue is certainly a factor because there were things from Duncan who We’ve Come Again accustomed to just constantly being runaround like being able to put the ball down this season and get to the rim and everything else like that constantly moving off screens that energy was not there from him today

And he went what was it uh five of 16 overall and four 13 yeah a lot of three-point attempts for him to the 16 that used to be standard now it’s not um I actually didn’t mind I I thought the Duncan Robinson game was okay I I didn’t

Mind putting the ball in his hands just he had missed two wide open threes before that and some people might look at that and be like well don’t give it to him again and I think a exposer is like what are the odds that he’s gonna

Miss three open threes to win the game kind of I agree with SPO on that like play the play the averages play the odds right he was four for 10 from three-point range before those misses that’s 40% that’s really good and then he misses the last three so he ends up four for3

Uh I thought defensively he had some really big possessions on kosma kozma was attacking him they were trying to force that switch and they got it uh a couple times in the last two and a half minutes and Duncan stood his ground even forced to travel by kozma at one point

And uh I actually last two minutes Duncan Robinson game in the last few minutes sorry interrupt but in the last two minutes that defense was better prior to that H I think they were looking for that matchup for a reason I think it was working for them I mean kma

Had a monster night uh 32 points for him 22 points this must be a career-high in free throws right I I can’t imagine another game where he’s had 16 free throw he played for the Lakers so fair enough yeah Ryan Ryan writes in uh what’s up with d Wright not getting

Any playing time um still no playing time for D Wright he played uh against New Orleans started that game he and then he played like five or six minutes in the next game and he’s basically an out of the rotation obviously the he’ have added Patty Mills he’s been in the

Rotation the last couple nights big first Hales for him over these last two games he’s just an immediate just like offensive accelerator right away just starts doing stuff for them I don’t really know what’s going on with Delan right I don’t know why SPO was asked about it before the game kind of

Downplayed it like hey it’s like a sliding doors thing I could have went with D I could have went with Patty Mills it’s like I don’t know you’re you kind of make it sound like it’s just up to chance like you’re the one that decides who goes into the game you know

And and he’s not been deciding to put thean in the game in all fairness like I don’t think the defensive presence of D Wright was what they were missing today like yeah certainly they needed to shut somebody down but you know both teams were basically under a 100 for most of

The game and and it wasn’t until that incredible spurt by the Wizards towards the end of the game that it really made a difference and Patty Mills was not on the floor either so I don’t think that you really were looking for Delon Wright and his particular skill set what he

Brings to the table that’s fair I did think that at the end SPO went some with with defensive lineups he would like take Duncan out and put haime in and I was like you could have put Del Wright in those like little situation all places you know what I mean like I think

D Wright’s a better Defender than Hae haakas now maybe he likes Hae because of the size versus the lineups in watching but I just I thought there would I was a little I I made a note I was like no Donan here that seems a little strange

You know and as a player you want to go up against your former team like this could have been the game where he goes off for 20 something points you know he provides that spark that you were unexpectedly needing you never know uh so you know you don’t take a you don’t

You don’t take the swing and you’re not going to get hit but I have some I have a I have some theories but I I want to I don’t want to say I’m on on air I might I might text you I might text

You but hey I don’t mean to break it to you here everybody else is listening on our conversation at this point uh did these last three losses indicate anything about us needing Tyler hero back or are they just losses uh I think the heat are really missing tyah

Hero I want to go back to what we were talking about with bam right asking him to do so much if you have another shot maker like Tyler hero in the lineup maybe you’re asking him to do a little bit less he’s not running into this wall Jimmy’s not fatigued Bam’s not fatigued

You got Tyler hero doing stuff offensively I think they have missed him I think they’ve missed Kevin Love a lot too by the way yes yeah I don’t know where you break down those percentages maybe just 50-50 but I think Kevin Love 7030 7030 that they’re missing Tyler

Hero okay that’s fair I I look I think the Orlando Robinson minutes whatever he played I think they were fine um they tried a lot of Niko yovic backup center because B was in foul trouble and clearly out of sorts early on and that didn’t necessarily work um and again the

Game changes so much with what love provides because you’ve got those Outlet passes the rebounds the transition opportunities and of course the three-point shooting that yic wasn’t able to provide and that Orlando can’t provide as consistently as Kevin Love And that even bam can’t provide so it

Just it changes the game for Miami kind of smooth things over when they’re looking for offense just like they were today he would have played a lot more and and probably been a factor I did see him shoot around before the game and to be honest with you little rusty but I

Would have said he looked he looked fine like I I I can’t gauge how much pain he’s actually in but he he seemed like he was as close to 100% as he can possibly get and and the reality is I think they’ll probably play against the

Denver Nuggets on would be my guess yeah that would be my guess you think they both come back or just Tyler I no just Kevin oh just Kevin okay we’ll see I mean the Kevin Love injury was not supposed to be as bad as the Tyler hero injury we’ll see what happens

With Tyler hero still no real indications when they’re going to come back the heater off on Monday they are going to be practicing on Tuesday and then they get that game Wednesday night in Denver so a couple of days off for the heat much needed days off at home
