Ainge realized the Jazz won way too many games to start the year and need to tank hard rest of the year to maintain better odds than the nets and rockets picks.
I do respect Ainge as one of the top execs in the league and I get all the memes about how calculated he is, but I legitimately don’t think he expected the Jazz to have won as many game as they have the last two seasons after trading their top 2 guys.
Now he’s faced with a diverging path, does he consider this current team a true core to go and continue to build around, or does he cash in on guys like Lauri and go for a true tank? It’s a good problem to have for sure, but using their picks to go get another star to put next to Lauri may just bring the Jazz back to the situation they were in with Mitchell/Gobert. My money is on another tear down and accumulating as many assets as OKC has.
