The games when it feels like we shoot too many threes and lose… It’s more than a feeling, it’s facts. The Magic are 11-20 this season when attempting more than 30 3pt Field Goals; 25-7 when they attempt less than 30 3pt Field Goals.
You’d think this would be a major point of emphasis from the coaching staff.
That’s because they’re able to get points in the paint when they win, and struggle in the paint when they lose. It’s more than one stat in a vacuum. It’s a combination of how opposing teams defend and how our team responds to the other teams’ defense

It’s def an important stat, but I think it’s a symptom more than a cause. Having watched most of our games this year, I’d say there are two reasons we take too many threes: our offense is stagnant and we’re heaving them up after failing to get quality shots through ball movement and/or we’re behind late in the game and trying to spark a comeback.
The first reason is the most important one, obviously. If we’re down 8 or 10 with 5 minutes left, ofc we’re going to be trying some treys to get back in it.
The coaches need to hammer home the importance of executing the half court offense expertly and continuing to move the ball if the shot or mismatch isn’t there. If the open shot is a three, take it confidently; otherwise, keep it moving and get inside.
Bricked threes usually mean fast breaks which usually mean easy points for the opponent bc we are so slow. Getting inside, getting fouled and getting back on D should be our priorities on offense. All those things are way easier when all our guys are whipping the ball around and moving and cutting early in the clock.
