Nissanusa.com later on the podcast we’ll break down how James wisman has been improving also talk about how great Simone fonio has been for the Detroit Pistons um but we want to start off with how well the Pistons particularly K Cunningham played in this game and how the Detroit Pistons were able to get
This win against the Charlotte Hornets I do want to let you guys know right now if you guys were following me on Twitter you guys probably already know this but this is now my third time recording this episode because my Google Chrome keeps crashing on me so here’s crossing fingers that I don’t
Spend another 20 minutes recording and have to start over again for you guys I’d like to get up at work tomorrow in a decent hour however anyways k Cunningham I thought played a absolutely fantastic game he shot a of 20 from the floor I’m not if you watch this game each each
Time he shot up one of those bombs at the end of the game just trolling around like I don’t know why he was taking those shots at the end of the game he was just throwing up stuff at the end of the shot clock Ball cat finding him ruined absolutely tanked his efficiency
In this game absolutely ruined it I don’t know why he was doing it absolutely tanked his three-point percentage to two of 10 now in this game I don’t know why he did it it was it was literally I swear to God like a a a knife to the heart every single time he
Did it it was killing me absolutely killing me but if you watch this game you know that Kate played an absolutely fantastic game don’t just go look at the box score and see his field goal percentage he played fantastic in this game and the main reason there’s a few
Things he did in this in this game tonight but the main reason or the main thing I thought he did exceptional in this game against the Hornets was dissect the Charlotte Hornets defense the Hornets from the get-go against against Cade were playing extremely aggressive on him in the pick and roll
Trying to trap him and aggressively double teaming him anytime he ran a pick and roll with Jaylen durren heck even later on the game in the fourth quarter he had a move where he hit uh Grant Williams with a tween cross to his right and absolutely lost them Grant Williams
Dam near hit the floor and then out of nowhere Brandon Miller hit the LB button on his controller through a random double team at Kade at literally at the top of the key just out of nowhere Kade just got full on sprinted double team something I only have seen in my team 2K
Like I’ve never seen something like that happen in in a Pistons game at least and he was able to find Jay dur for an open shot but my overall point is is that the Hornets were throwing many different coverages at him and were being aggressive with everything and the the
Biggest stat that you should look at or the two biggest stats you should look at with Kade in this game tonight his turnovers which were only two and it’s plus minus he was a plus 20 in his 32 minutes on the floor the Pistons ended up winning this game by 17 he dominated
In his minutes and the reason for this was remember a few weeks ago maybe I think like a week and a half ago we talked about on the podcast if there’s one area of kad’s game that we need to see him really try to come into and and and grow
Into it was trusting his teammates I’d say a little more to take advantage of his gravity there was a lot of times where it felt like especially towards the end of games it felt like that Kade like watching you felt like he was saying to himself or he was thinking if
It isn’t me it’s G to be nobody else so I have to try to do this I have to try to get get this bucket I have to try to score here I had to try to create it myself and he he was doing that I felt like against any coverage the defense
Was throwing at him late and that was really causing a lot of you know some of the efficiency struggles at the end of games because at the end of the games defenses don’t want the ball in his hands at the end of games they’re being really aggressive with him in this game
The Hornets were doing from the get-go and instead of instead of forcing the issue Kade was dissecting the team he was allowing his teammates to play four on three it felt like every possession of the game it felt like they were it felt like Simone fonio Jaye Ivy Jaylen dur Isaiah Stewart
Were playing with the man Advantage every possession down because anytime they ran a pick and roll with Cade they were double teaming him and he wasn’t forcing the issue he wasn’t turning the ball over he wasn’t trying to do too much with it he was simply back in the
Trap out forc him to come out a little bit farther from the three-point line give his teammates more space and then he would hit Jaylen durren with Dam near the entire court open four on three either Duran’s getting to the basket he’s kicking out to his shooter or he’s
Hitting AC cross score skip pass that Cade that is to Simone fonio who he he’ll hit a three or he’s hitting a c Jane Ivy like he was just dissecting the Hornets defense all night and I understand why the Hornets were playing this aggressively against K anytime they didn’t play that
Aggressively against Cade he was just torching them scoring wise especially early in the game um in the first quarter Kate came out hot and he was destroying them offensively he shot five of eight in the first quarter had 12 points only had I say only it’s a
Quarter but he had three assists in that quarter he played absolutely Flawless was was absolutely fantastic but he was lot more aggressive scoring wise and attacking their coverage now when the Hornets started to really say you know you need to get the ball out your hands we’re not letting you beat us
Single-handedly he didn’t force the issue and he found his teammates and allowed his teammates to Feast off of his gravity um that’s one of the things you saw from K tonight that I thought was absolutely spectacular I thought that was the best part of his game tonight the other part which is
Something fans have been asking for and he delivered was slamming the door shut in the fourth quarter closing the game out for the Detroit Pistons now he shot two of six in the fourth quarter again like I said he had like a few bombs in the last two minutes where I was just
Like dude you’re destroying your you’re destroying your efficiency I don’t know why you’re doing this stop please let someone else shoot the bombs or just hold it and take the turnover like I please stop doing it but overall the point I’m trying to make is the Hornets
Cut this lead down to seven after the Pistons were up by like damn near 20 they cut the lead to seven with around five minutes to go and at the five minute mark this is what cage proceeded to do he hit two free throws extended the lead to nine then the Hornet scored
Then K came back down again scored again on a finger roll layup went back up by nine horners turn the ball over K comes back down Pull up jump shot now the leads 11 that’s back to back to back possessions Kade tries to close the door
On a on a on a hot Hornets team on a streak on a run they come out of the timeout the Hornets score cut the lead down to nine K Cunningham hits Grant Williams with that crossover I was talking about then finds Jaylen dur for
A dunk now the leads back up to 11 with three minutes to go so that was backto back to back to backto back possessions where K Cunningham whether he scored or caused the scoring found someone open essentially shut the door on the Hornets that’s what Pistons fans at least the
Pistons fans I’ve been seeing has been asking for from Cade for him to get to the fourth quarter with the lead and stop the other team from trying to steal the win from the Pistons or maybe in a tighter game maybe this doesn’t count for some Pistons fans because they were
Up by seven but I count that that that’s that’s fourth quarter clutch time you can’t let a team that’s on a run come back and steal that win from you you got you got shut the door and K Cunningham did that um so I thought that was the
Other great thing he did in this game when he sensed that the Hornets were really feeling like they could have a chance to win the game he completely shut the door on him played absolutely fantastic I thought he was better defensively this game I thought he was
More uh locked in on the defensive end but really like I said it was more so him dissecting the defense that I thought jumped off the screen and whether if you watch this game again if you just look at the box score and see he shot eight of 20 you’re going to
Think oh he didn’t have a good game no he played fantastic this game and if you’re watching if you watch this game combined with all the other games we’ve watched this season since they benched killing Hayes at Game 12 or around there Kate has been fantastic since then he
Has been fantastic since then and since All-Star break you could argue he’s been playing like an all NBA player since the All-Star break and James Edwards I third hinted at this on the last podcast and he he’s probably right this season’s been terrible awful like I don’t know
What other adjective you like I could use to describe it it’s been absolutely terrible okay however entering the season the biggest question was is K Cunningham him is K Cunningham going to be the franchise player for the Detroit Pistons and I think he’s answered that unequivocally yes he is the guy for the
Detroit Pistons he continues to get better and better and better and better for the Detroit Pistons as the season goes on so look all this other stuff happened that was terrible and it’s been a historically awful season no doubt about it no excusing it it’s been absolutely
Horrific but it seems like at the end of the day the Pistons got the answer they were looking for so I I’m happy I’m enjoying watching Cade play because it every night he’s getting better and better he looks more explosive than ever he looks more healthy than ever um and
When he dissects a defense like this it really allows his teammates to Feast off of his gravity and have great games and one of those teammates who had a great game in this game against the charlot horns in this win was Simone fanto who has been absolutely fantastic since the
Trade for him at the deadline we break down how good fonu has been with the Detroit Pistons when we come back this episode is brought to you by betterhelp give online therapy a try at betterhelp.com lockon NBA and get on your way to being your best self

Pistons hit that subscribe button or leave us a festar review on whatever podcast platform you’re listening to this on that’s another great way to support the podcast before we get Simone fonu I do want to mention that last week I mentioned that the Pistons had a few
Winnable games coming up and if they wanted to try to achieve the goal I had for him of trying to play near 500 basketball since their trade deadline they had to win these games if they wanted to avoid being the worst team in the NBA this year they had to win these
Games and one of them was against the Nets at home they won that game and one of them was the Hornets at at home they’ve won this game the next game they play is against the Toronto Raptors at home another winnable game they need to get these wins because if they don’t get
This win against the horn against the Raptors they got the heat the heat again Celtics Pacers the Celtics again the Pelicans the Knicks the Timberwolves and their next winable game is March 29th against the Wizards and you could be looking if they don’t beat the Raptors I
Don’t think they can beat any of those other teams you’d be looking at a one two three four five six seven eight nine game losing streak again I’m sure everyone would like to avoid that so they’ve done a good job so far winning these winnable games at home um they got
A few more coming up need to take advantage of it um anyways Simone fonio has been absolutely fantastic for the Detroit Pistons and this is something I I I’ve been I I didn’t want to say I didn’t want to go overboard I hadn’t said it yet because I
Didn’t want to get you know too far with it or you know really get ahead of you know get ahead of it but I think it’s absolutely true at this point I think Simone fonio is just better than buan bonovich at this point like I I think I mean at least how he’s
Looked in Detroit maybe this is just a hot streak maybe he can’t play like this all the time but how he’s looked Center ring Detroit he’s he’s better than buan he’s just better buan may be able to do more with the ball in his hands isolation wise um postup wise like is he
A better or more versatile scorer than than fanto definitely like he definitely is okay that’s fair but everything else I think fanto damer does better than him definitely defends better than him 100% And way more active Defender and just overall better Defender than buan he’s more active on
The glass he actively is is is is constantly going after the glass really helping the Pistons on that end especially when they try to put him at the fourward position he’s much more athletic than buan I’d say I say he’s around the same type of finisher around
The rim as buan he’s a better I’d say a more active off ball offensive player than Buon and I think he fits much better next to a cade next to an ivy next to assar blah blah blah pitch much better than Buon did so I this is this
Has been a home run trade by the Detroit Pistons going out there and get fanto he has been like I I don’t know how else to say it other than he’s been absolutely fantastic for the Detroit Pistons in the 12 games since arriving in Detroit not including tonight he is shooting 48%
From the field 43% from Deep 53% on twos averaging 15 points a game and 3.7 rebounds a game he’s been fantastic like I don’t know what else to say in this game against the Charlie hornets 7-1 from the floor three of seven from Deep 17 points eight rebounds three assists
Two Steals and a block plus 17 he he led the Detroit Pistons In Minutes tonight as he 100% should have the Pistons are better when he’s on the floor when he’s on the floor with these guys with the starters they are they’ve been playing extremely well we’ve talked
About this for weeks now that when he’s in there with the starters they are playing really good basketball so and I know assar was out with with an illness in this game I expect assar to come back to the starting lineup when um he he’s feeling
Better and he he’s back 100% but man look I I’m I’m sound like a broken record man whether it’s a s want to sit down I wouldn’t sit assar I’d sit Stu whether it’s assar or Stu you want to sit down Simone fono needs to be playing 30 plus minutes tonight like there’s
Nights where he needs to be playing 35 minutes he has been borderline I think is arguably their second best player since the trade deadline Simone fanto I think he has been you can make the argument that he has been the second best player for the Detroit Pistons that
Guy should not be playing 25 24 minutes off the bench he shouldn’t be a six-man Off the Bench especially when the staring lineup plays that well with him in the lineup it just can’t happen he needs to be playing near like 30 plus minutes I think damn near
Guaranteed and some nights like tonight 35 Plus minutes like that’s how good he has been for the Detroit pist on both ends of the floor like against Brooklyn I know they won the game but he only played 23 minutes played 29 minutes in their loss against Miami they played 21
Minutes in their in their win that this one was a win against the Bulls he played 25 minutes in their loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers he played 20 minutes in their loss against the Phoenix Suns he played 25 minutes in their loss against the Lakers like that’s shouldn’t be happening he needs
To be hovering around 30 minutes plus for the Detroit Pistons he feasts off of the gravity of Cade and Ivy especially when teams want to put two on ball on Cade he is going to continuously get open shots which he is going to hit down he’s going to
Attack close offs which he’s capable capable of doing and finishing at the basket he’s going to be able to come off screens and hit threes he fits so well so so well with what Kade does offensively with the pick and roll with Duren if they want to trap him Simon is
Wide open there was a few plays tonight where Cade waved off the screen so he could try to go ISO that he knew that they were going to trap him he would drive to Simone’s side knowing that the defender was going to be hard helping aggressively at the nail and all he
Would do he’d take one dribble inside the three-point line immediately swing it over to fantu at the wing and he was just automatic making the right play whether it’s hitting that three or attacking that Gap and getting into the basket Simone was playing he fits this
Like I can’t tell you I I can’t explain it like he fits better than a glove dude like he’s been so fantastic for the Pistons on both ends of the floor so I I know he’s probably gonna go back to the bench once assar comes back when he does
Eventually go back to the bench he needs to be playing close to 30 minutes a game and if I was Monty Williams I’d be trying to find a way for him to get to 30 plus minutes uh even Off the Bench even off the bench because he plays
Fantastic with the starters and the starters look fantastic with him in there and this isn’t just overreacting to the Charlotte Hornets uh the pisses being the horns who are another bad team this has been the case since he arrived in Detroit so I don’t know man I I think
He’s definitely been better than boan I’d like to hear from you guys do you guys think he’s been better than boan I don’t think it’s even close really I I think his impact on both ends his activity on the glass his activity off ball I think it’s just been like that
That has been much more important for the Pistons than buan scoring 20 points but giving up 30 himself like at least that’s how I feel so let me know what you guys think in the comment section down below or over on Twitter at cuka Hill how important and how amazing has
Simone fono been for the Detroit Pistons do you guys think he’s actually been their second best player since arriving in a trade let me know again comment section down below or over on Twitter CA Hill when we come back James wisman someone I’ve been incredibly tough on I

Segment about James wisman I’m not going to look at any stats because the stats don’t matter at the end of last season he was putting up I think like close to a double double or something with the Pistons and and that didn’t match anything you were actually seeing on the
Floor like you could tell watching him that yeah it’s not looking great like the more you watch the more people started sour on him so I’m not going to talk about the numbers at all because the numbers don’t matter to me I’m going to talk about a specific play and then I
Want to talk about something he’s been doing more of routinely in the fourth quarter I think everyone probably has seen the Dunkey had I think on Nick Richard it was the Hop step Euro kind of move into a slam dunk fantastic move absolutely insane agility balance for someone his size
Athleticism like that was the move was great the scoring you know the dunk was amazing that’s not what I’m focused on the next possession after that play shows shows you that James wisman is getting better and not not talent-wise he’s not getting better talent wise he’s getting
Better up here he’s getting better IQ wise and he’s learning how to play and that was by far we’ve talked about in the off season there’s something I’ve talked about a lot his IQ his the the mental game the mental part was his biggest hurdle playing in the
NBA knowing where to be knowing how to play knowing how to set screens correctly knowing the angles to set screen like knowing how to play the right way within an half court offense like excuse me all that was his biggest hurdle and The Possession right after that highlight
Dunk he got the ball at the high post with about I’d say like 13 seconds left on the shot clock and he got the ball and gave Nick Richards a jab step a j James wisman last year or James wisman at the beginning of the year 100%
After scoring that dunk was going to say this is my time I scored I’m feeling it I’m going to score whether it’s good or bad I’m forcing this I’m this is my time I got the ball I’m going to score the basketball James Wiman any other time would do
That instead what he did he backed the ball out he found a ball handler set another screen and generated open three for for the Detroit Pistons that play right there showed me everything I needed to see for this night that play right there impressed me more than the
Dunk did on Nick Richards because that that right everyone knows how athletic James wisman is everyone knows that he can dunk on somebody everyone knows he finishes well around the basket like everyone knows that about James wisman that’s not questioned about him what has been questioned about him is his mental
Part of the game and and and knowing how to play the right way can you play the right way do you know how to play NBA basketball that’s been the biggest question about James wisman throughout his whole career and that play right there showed me that he’s buying in and
He’s understanding his role within an offense it’s not just that play he’s been doing that for about two weeks now really doing it for about two weeks I’d say he had been flashing it throughout the season but over the last two weeks I’d say he’s really really taken that step mental
Wise and that play I thought was the best the best uh example of that and if you remember early in the season when James wisman was at top it was was him versus baggley whatever and I was talking about Wiseman I said that if wisan wants to be
An NBA player for a while if he wants to be an NBA rotation big what he needs to understand and what he needs to do he needs to buy into being he is not maybe down the line he will okay I don’t want to put a cap on anyone’s ceiling if they
Want to believe they can be this go ahead maybe down the line he can be Chris BOS but right now in the immediate future and for him to last in the NBA what he was going to do need to do was buy into to being a a a hard screener an
Elite lab threat an elite role man who played within an offense played the right way made the right pass kept the offense flowing and feasted on offensive rebounds feasted on putbacks and feasted on rolls to the rim and actually rolled all the way to the rim because we know
That that was something he didn’t always do he wanted to stop in the in the in between game catch it and try ISO and do his own thing he’s not doing that anymore he’s rolling all the way to the basket he’s getting oops from Cade he’s getting oops from Marcus Sasser that he
Got tonight he’s getting bounce passes on dump off because of it he has bought into that he you are not seeing James wisman no longer get the ball at the high post and stall the offense try jab step he’s getting the ball at the high post and immediately going into the dho
He’s getting the ball at the high high post or beyond the three-point line not even looking to score he’s immediately trying to get to the the 05 second offense trying to get the ball to the next side trying to get to another screening action try to dive towards the
Basket he’s keeping the ball flowing he’s playing the right way and that right there is the biggest Improvement he possibly could have had into trying being a NBA bench level big like that that’s that right there is where he needed to improve on and he’s been doing that that’s why he’s been
Playing well for the Pistons last of late that’s why he’s been getting minutes for the Pistons as of late that’s why they haven’t just been getting obliterated in his minutes as of late because he’s playing the right way he’s buying into that role and that’s his best chance at
Surviving in the NBA defensively he still has ways to go okay there there’s flashes where he uses his size and his length to really try you know bother shots around the rim and sometimes he comes up the great block but him and durren so I’m not even gonna like single
Him out with this because duren’s also awful defensively so like he has a ways to go but so so is durren so I’m not even gonna really pay attention to that you can tell though that wisan gives it his all on defense he’s trying he he not
That he’s Los lacking effort or anything or not paying attention I just don’t think he’s I don’t think the mental part of the defensive game has CT has caught up all the way with him yet and he just needs to rep it out like that’s going
Like whether he gets better or not we’ll see but it only going to come with reps offensively that’s where his Improvement is really coming just buying into the offense keeping the ball flowing knowing his role it’s the same thing we talked about with Marvin baggley last year what
Did you see from Marvin Bagley last year and now he’s with Washington playing well and he played well with the Pistons this year he was doing it even better this year he was not he didn’t come from Sacramento and try to be the number two overall pick the number three overall
Pick like that’s not what he came to Detroit to try to be he bought in to being a lob threat a ro threat set hard screens Feast on offensive rebounds Feast on putbacks and feast on Aly oops that’s what Marvin Bagley accepted and he was fantastic at
It he got even better this year at it he’s been playing well with the Washington Wizards like that that’s what Bagley did and I think it’s extended his NBA career like he’s going to have an NBA career now because of it I would say I think he’s gonna get another contract
Obviously I don’t think that’s much of a question for wisan it’s the same thing he maybe is a little bigger than Bagley he has a little bit more potential because of his size and athleticism so if he he can still have the long-term potential in his mind like I’m no one’s
Saying he has to abandon his long-term goal for himself down the line but you need to take steps to get there and before he wasn’t even an NBA player and over the last few weeks he’s been an NBA qual I’d say an NBA backup he’s been an
NBA rotational big because he is buying into his role offensively he’s playing the right way the you can see that the reps are starting to get to him and he’s starting to learn how to play the game of basketball in the half court I absolutely love that play for him
Tonight again everyone’s G to focus on the dunk but the play after that when he passed up the opportunity to try to oh I got the hot hand you know this is a heat check right here he passed that up to try to go into another dho screen and
Get an open three for Queen Grimes I believe it was on the left wing cran Grimes missed it but that was the right that was the right process that was the right decision and it just showcased that wiseman’s coming a long way in the mental part of the game and if he can
Continue to grow in that part of the game he will have a career in the NBA and he will be able to have a chance I assume down the line to maybe get to where he wants to get to but he needs to get to this level first he needs to get
That next step and he’s making that next step right now so I I’m happy for him he has a loud fan base he’s a he’s a good kid he’s a good guy he’s a he’s absolutely hard worker everyone loves him so I’m happy for him that he’s doing
This I’m happy that he’s he’s getting better and improving in front of us and we we’ll see if he’s able to end the year playing this way and if he does I I fully expect him to get a contract this off season from somebody I like I I
Fully expect him be able to extend his NBA career and have the chance at doing what he planed what he talked about in that um I forget what interview that was when they interviewed and wrote that article on I don’t know if it’s players tribute or what I forget um where he
Talked about how he still has goals for himself to he doesn’t want to be a bust basically what he was saying and that he thinks he isn’t going to be one he’s going to achieve his potential poal that’s great his pathway of getting there is doing what he’s doing right now
And I’m happy for him so James wi been playing well hopefully he continues to do that that’s all I’ve got for you guys today on today’s episode of lockdown Pistons podcast hit that subscribe button to the YouTube channel leave us a f star review I whatever podcast platform you’re listening to this on

Ausar not playing helped because his man defends Cade.
Now we just need Ivey to be replaced by a shooting guard that can actually shoot because his guy ran at Cade most of the night.
Weaver has done an awful job surrounding Cade with shooters like Fontecchio
Wow Ku, by far the most positive show in a long time.
Fontecchio seems to fit perfectly what this team needs; big improvement from Bojan. And yes Wiseman has finally been getting better. Not too surprising it has taken a while since bigs often take longer and he hasn’t played regularly since high school.
Now we gotta just get Ivey consistent and Ausar a shot.
But remember, goofies said They were better without Cade, and it's Ivey's team now. As for Cade shooting those bombs, he did what he's supposed to do at the end of the shot clock ku. Get up a shot to potentially help his team instead of holding the ball to pad stats. That was maturity, another reason why Cade is him.
Monty still really upset me in the 4th playing a full bech unit
The problem I had with you Ku is you were a complete A**hole. I could understand why Kerr didn't want to wait on Wiseman to an extent. The Dubs had just came off a Chip and were trying to go back to back. But the Pistons were on the opposite end of the spectrum a lot of young talented players developing. But you didn't want Wiseman to be one of them. As you knew all young players do what they know until they know what to do. The talent was obvious he was just inexperienced. He still needs reps on defense as well as offense. This team is the perfect learning ground and Monte is coaching James up to be useful on basic NBA-level basketball. As Cade is growing the team will grow with him. But it seems you want every player to be sacrificial to Cade while HE learns. And no one is allowed to learn except Cade. That lacks balance. Cade is NOT Monte's only responsibility the entire team is and those kids have careers just like Cade does. Monte sees the potential or lack thereof in ALL them. You have a very narrow view of things. Monte sees them every day. He did a tremendous job building the Suns and I think if given the chance he will do the same here. Monte has done a damn good job coaching James up and I for one being a huge fan of his greatly appreciate it.
