The biggest thing Poeltl provides is defensive rebounding. We get killed on offensive rebounds and putbacks when he sits. It’s not the sexiest thing to bring to the table defensively, but very important.
Opponent offensive rebound rate is 24.6% when Poeltl plays and 31.7% when he sits. Those rates are virtually identical to the teams with the lowest and highest offensive rebounding rates respectively (Sacramento at 24.7% and Washington at 31.2%) in the entire league.

He was also the only Center on the team for most of the season so of course we were better with him. The other alternative was Precious or Boucher.

I’ve seen people here say he is an average C.
He’s a traditional C for sure, but he is VERY good at what he’s good at.

The shots he changes are so important, a super important part of his value. He’s not some brilliant shot blocker but he makes guys adjust and pass out of the paint all the time.
His fundamentals are so excellent. I genuinely believe that OKC should have cashed in a couple of chips for him to give them some veteran big mins in the play offs. Starting Chet at C but playing Yak heavy mins.

Everyone was down on Jak because he’s not a floor spacing C, like those grow on trees
what he provides in size, passing, positioning, IQ can’t be replicated easily. Our rim protection and rebounding falls off a cliff without him

Their record without him speaks for itself
