At the teams around the heat in the standings and it’s not the Knicks and the Cavs and the Sixers anymore now it’s a young Pacers team the Bulls and the Hawks who have been a mess all year long and the heat who have just won 11 out of

14 during that stretch we were doing like the whole lookout for the heat thing and now they’re in this mix with these teams I just I just don’t understand this team David I don’t know that there is anything to understand right like you know I somebody I was

Talking to yesterday said that this is like the only team that has had like a seven game losing streak and a seven game win streak in the same season it’s like that that doesn’t happen like there are no teams that that just have that kind of a a flip-flop and it’s not just

Due to an a really strange unpredictable injury or anything like that yeah they’ve had their Nicks and bruises and they certainly have had players Miss time but this team has always found a way to kind of fight through that adversity and still find a way to be you

Know at least to win mostly uh I don’t know I I mean the four game losing streak has been so tough to predict too because again if you had told me when we talked about it we talked about it in our preview of the Denver game like this

Was an opportunity for this team to step up to Showcase what they can do and yes Denver that was an ultimate Challenge without a doubt but they were kind of due for a loss as well they had just had a comeback Victory against the Toronto Raptors at home they were traveling for

The first game of a road trip that felt like maybe you could have a scheduled loss and yet it was Denver and Reggie Jackson of all people who wind up coming up in clutch game situations I saw Aaron Gordon say what a clutch team they are I

Mean this was how M you know this is how they were referring to Miami Media members and fans in general referring to Miami Nat to Lago this was a team that always finds a way to win that always comes up in these clutch game situations Etc not yesterday and so they just

They’ve blown a lot of leads also they’ve just faltered in the fourth quarter down a stretch so this feels a little different than even last year’s about with mediocrity and and for somebody who has been mostly positive about this team and their chances of going to another NBA

Finals I’m not so sure that I’m I feel the same way about this team I think that this is a team that just does not look and act the way that a team that is ready to compete is they could they could surprise me and they could turn

Things around and I will be just like a lot of people were last year last year I wasn’t surprised this year I would be greatly surprised if they’re able to flip that switch that’s interesting because I think and you I’ve talked about it like mostly I think this team is better

Than last year’s team I do I do too and I do and the thing that separated last year’s team during the regular season in the playoffs was basically just three-point shooting variant like they couldn’t make a shot to save their life in the regular season and then all of a

Sudden everybody had career best like averages in the playoffs they caught lightning in a bottle and then there you go you compare combine that with Jimmy Butler um you know doing a Michael Jordan impression for two and a half rounds and then that’s what you got

Right and and you end up with Miami in the finals so this year that’s not really the case Miami’s fine in terms of three-point percentage like the variance part of this isn’t really what’s going on it’s not like bad luck or anything like that it just seems like sometimes

This team has it and sometimes they don’t sometimes they take these games seriously and sometimes they don’t and these last four games especially the one against uh Washington on Sunday it just feels like this team isn’t taking it with the appropriate amount of seriousness and we hear like Eric spoler

Talk about this or talk around it you know with intentionality allism and all that stuff and it’s like dude it’s March like how much more like what else do you need to be intentional for 48 minutes of a basketball game like just this team if

If it’s like it’s one thing to be like okay this is like you said the veteran team that knows how to win and knows how to get it done and yet they can’t be intentional they can’t be prepared for these games it just this team is so hard

To figure out because when they are playing well like again like that 11 and3 stretch I’m like wow you know I’m not counting out the heat either when they’re playing like this and then they drop four in a row and you’re like yeah it kind of does feel like this is a

Playing Team like being in the same sentence as the Bulls and the Hawks feels appropriate where I think a lot of people would look at this roster and Jimmy Butler and Eric spoler and bab bio and the Miami Heat and everything that goes along with it and think that they

Should be up there with Boston and Milwaukee but they just haven’t been you know I I found an interesting contrast even as if we’re just talking about it right now and I hadn’t even kind of made these thoughts concrete until just now but listening to Eric spoler and Michael Malone talk about

What it takes to bring a a similar effort no a greater effort the year after you win a championship and spoler was asked about it he said you know what it’s been so long I I don’t know what it’s like to kind of you know to to want to keep the

Belt right that championship belt to and you have to have like a a greater Focus like you’re so desperate to say can we win it in that that year that you win the championship that that kind of drives you but the next year you got a

Taste for it and you have to be even sharper you have to be even more prepared to hear Malone talk about that nuggets team they came into camp in the offseason their workouts and everything that they did was we want to be even better so that we can maintain our

Status as Champions and I think there’s something to this Heat team that as good as they’ve been I think there might be just a little sliver of doubt that kind of separates them that they’re just not as fully committed to these games because we just don’t know if we’re good enough

Like they were as good as you could possibly be last year they made it to the NBA finals they had a historic run they were great during that stretch and then they get to the NBA finals and what does it matter like you can’t beat up on

Your older brother you can’t beat up on on Big Brother Nica yic because he’s just too good and so maybe there’s a little bit of that and I don’t know maybe maybe that’s I think part I think I think it’s a good point and I think

Part of that too is that it’s just so freaking hard for this team to do anything anything they have now they’re dropped back down to the bottom 10 in offensive rating after hovering around League average uh and that that seems about right to me this is not a good

Offensive team and it is so difficult even when Jimmy Butler is at all NBA Jimmy Butler level it’s still pretty hard for this team to generate good looks and you watch a team like Denver or Boston or even Milwaukee as up and down as their season has been it’s just

Like okay even Milwaukee could just go into a Damen Lillard dianis pick and roll whenever they want and just generate a good look out of it it is so difficult for Miami to consistently possession to possession do the work that it requires for this team to get

Good looks and now you kind of you scale that out for one two three four seasons now of the Jimmy Butler experience it’s basically been the same song and dance regardless of The Supporting Cast around Jimmy Butler this team it does like they don’t have a nikic who just makes things

Look easy right right and or or anything even close to it and so they they’ve been asking bam to do a little bit too much they’ve apparently been asking even Jimmy Butler to do too much and I do have some stats about those things later

On I know do want to talk about Tyler hero in that latest injury update later on too but quickly um a couple more things here so the heat right now they’re 35 and 30 eighth place in the East I think it’s going to take 45 or 46

Wins to escape the play in I think that’s that’s the goal now just get out of the bottom Seven 8 nine 10 get into that top six and then let’s just see if you can you know catch lightning in a bottle again so I think it’s going to

Take 45 or 46 wins to escape the play in so that means and I just mean like getting the number six seed which again I’m that’s fine that’s the goal now so that means that he got to go over these next 17 games 10 and seven or 11- six

And you look at the schedule you got to win these two games in Detroit Friday Sunday you got to win them if you don’t forget it like I I’m I’m burying the heat into the playing tournament at that point because you got you again the Pistons are a better team than they were

Sure but you got to beat them so understand you have to beat him because then Monday on the second night of a back toback you play in Philadelphia now they’re not going to have Joel and beid for that game but it’s still on the second night of back toback tyres Maxi

And the Sixers you know they they win they still win games without Joel and be they’re just not as good obviously and then you have a four game home stand or I’m sorry a five-game stretch here four of which are at home that is pretty rigorous you’ve got in Cleveland and

Then the Pelicans at home the Cavs again at home the Warriors at home they’ll have Steph Curry back for that game and then uh and you finish it out with Portland here so like you just go through there like if you don’t beat if you even split that series with the

Pistons over the weekend and then you lose like one of those games against Cleveland you split that you know those two Cleveland games maybe you split the New Orleans and the Philadelphia games you’re talking about three losses where already in the next week and a half

Where you can only afford five or six for the rest of the season so I I don’t know man like this is going to be really tough to get to that 45 46 win mark the good news for the heat is that you at least have the tie Breakers

Right now over Indiana uh or right I’m sorry you don’t you you have a game on April 7th against Indiana right now you’re tied with the Pacers for the season series at 1 and one that April 7th game in Indiana is going to be is it’s probably the biggest game left on

The schedule for the heat because that could determine your birthday April 7th there you go um for your birthday hopefully heat can get a win they are two- 0 the heat R over Philadelphia but they still have two games coming up against Philadelphia I talked about the

One on March 12th there’s another one on April 4th but if you win one of those that March 12th game I think you have to beat Philadelphia that way you just go up 3 0 on the season series and that other game doesn’t matter so much cuz

That way you get the play the the tiebreaker over them uh they are three and one over Orlando this year so if they do get into a tiebreaker with the magic who are right now two and a half games up on the heat then then at least they have that

So it’s going to be tough man like you look at the schedule and it’s not going to be easy but it’s it’s also possible so 10 and seven 11 and six that’s that’s kind of what the heat got to do over these next 17 games uh the heat will not be held

His playmaking and everything he does and you know what his rebounding as a c like those things have been you know missed because those are Second Chance opportunities there were opportunities yesterday against the Denver Nuggets where they couldn’t Corral a rebound Tyler for whatever faults he may have at

Least he’ll pull that down ignite a transition opportunity that could lead to easy buckets same with Kevin he’ll grab that rebound he’s a great underappreciated rebounder once he gets his hands on those balls he’s not gonna you can’t fry him out of him and he’s gonna be able the social clip that’s the

Social clip right there I I don’t I I heard it as soon as I was thinking it I was like you know do I go there that’s the clip Kevin loves getting those hands on the balls you know I guess and in any case he uh he’s a great rebounder and

Obviously can ignite a fast break opportunity too so um yeah Tyler the fact that they only scored 88 points I me we could talk about rebounding I just like Tyler’s averaging 20 too much it yeah yeah I mean I at some point this team just needs to score

I mentioned in the last segment like they’re back down at the bottom 10 in offensive rating and look their offensive rating with her on the court hasn’t been a whole lot better than what it is with him off the court but you know what this this team has been so

Weird all season I just I know that Tyler hero would have helped yesterday I know that for a team that just scored 88 points and has had a hard time scoring over this four game losing streak Tyler hero would help and by the way like Duncan Robinson as much as we love him

In that starting lineup and the stats and all that kind of stuff like he’s quietly not been as consistent as you maybe would have wanting to hope the three point shot is kind of Hit or Miss sometimes he’s only shooting like 38% from three over these last nine games

With tahiro out and you know this is not even a Duncan Robinson thing necessarily because I do think that he’s been playing well and that his chemistry with those guys is you know is still notable but just having another guy who can score having a guy who could take the

Patty Mills minutes right like they’re playing so many guys in these lineups whether it’s Patty like there was Patty Mills and Thomas Bryant minutes yesterday against the defending champs I just don’t know that you can afford to do that they’re missing and and those minutes otherwise probably could have

Gone to tah hero and Kevin Love right and that just looks a lot different that looks a lot different I don’t know if that means that he’d win that game but I know it looks a lot different I know this team doesn’t get blown out if those

Two guys were playing and so yeah they’re they’re missing Ty hero a lot and the fact that he is now out indefinitely with you know he misses the first three or four games with that knee hyperextension left knee hyp extension that he had at the end of that New

Orleans game and then he’s missing these last games with the with the right foot tendonitis or tendonosis or you know whatever it is yes uh now like with this inflammation essentially in the right foot I don’t we don’t know when he’s going to come back and for the Herold to

Use the word indefinitely is troubling and it it kind of lines up with all the things that you and I have been hearing too is and just by the way just context clues with this team too when is Tyler hero going to come back we don’t know and that’s because progress right Eric

Spoler giving a non- update update yesterday and that’s all he could do because I don’t think anybody knows but we do know like the heat are going to be cautious with guys like this we saw it with bam earlier in the year when he was dealing with the hip injury which was

Like another lingering type injury and apparently this foot thing with t Hero has been lingering it’s been an issue even dating back to his rookie season so when it comes to lingering issues that like of things that can kind of get inflamed and bothersome the heat with other players have been very cautious

With those things right bam missed what was it 12 13 games or something with the hip injury and now they’re being Tyler’s missed nine and it just feels like they’re being as cautious as possible and I I as much as it hurts and as much as they miss him

Offensively I still think it’s probably the right move to be cautious with him considering that you you’re going to want him to be as fresh as possible for the playoff something that he wasn’t obviously last year although that was for very different reasons considering what we’ve seen from the team over the

Last four games where they’ve absolutely needed him and Kevin Love like taking this cautious approach and making sure that those guys are at full strength with with love you know he’s an older player obviously you don’t want to push him could he go out there if this was a

NBA finals or even a playoff game probably probably I would say so could Tyler do it yeah maybe you know if if it’s been a lingering issue since his rookie year when he was what 19 years old like you don’t want to continue to build on that you want to give him some

Rest and have him come out and be Miami secret weapon right that they that they’ve had all along over the last couple years so I like cautious approach you know I know it might be costing Miami in a short term but if there’s a long-term payoff and that’s a big if

That’s on Tyler and that’s on the heat and and the coaching staff to make sure that they maximize his opportunities and to maximize his level of Play Once he’s back at full strength but if you can break him out and and have him be the

Kind of player that you and I expect he can be and be that kind of prolific score as a starter because again I think that conversation as a bench player is probably done I think then it’s all worth it like because all of a sudden you’re going to be welcoming in a

Dynamic 20 point per game score that could just make things so much easier and I hope he’s at the very least putting shots up right now so he can’t be he can’t be just sitting still like his cardio would be you know shot he would have you know a very very poor

Level foot with it’s like the bottom of the foot right you were looking at some sort of diagram before we started recording so maybe not like running he’s probably not doing sprints but you know you could get on a bike and you could still keep your your you know cardio up

Or whatever I’m not a doctor I’m not going to pretend to be one but if he does come back in this first game after the road trip it would be against New Orleans at home so the last team he played would be the same team that he

Comes back to face in the very next in his first game back so 15 points against the Pelicans uh when before he left that game with an injury so you know maybe that maybe that home stretch that starts March 22nd you start with a game against the Pelicans at home and then it’s

Cleveland Golden State Portland maybe that’s the Target date but again I’m just I’m just guessing here um so we’ll see it’s not great you never you never want to hear indefinite when it comes to any sort of injuries I know we’re trying to kind of spin it positive here and

Obviously you prefer hey be cautious get this guy ready for the playoffs as opposed to you know just wear him out in the in the regular season and just and and you know playoffs be damned kind of thing but there is going to have to be a

Balance at some point especially if the heat drops some of these games like we were talking about earlier it’s like okay how many more games can they really afford to lose and and and then also like what does it look like when Tyler hero comes back is there going to be a

Process of folding him back in maybe there won’t be I don’t know maybe he’s just a Gunner and he just comes back and he starts taking shots and Miami’s offense just looks that much better but we’ll see what happens um I have some important stats that I want to share

In the past like Lottery teams that are not just not just messing things up for other teams you know playing the spoiler role and things that sort but they’ve kind of just they’ve kind of figured it out they kind of turned it around dur has been a Monster

Yeah they kind of want to have a Runway going into next season too and by the way this Pistons team has played Miami hard every time they’ve played the two times they’ve played this season also so it’s not like these games have been blowouts despite the Pistons not being

Good and outside what was it 23 games in a row that they lost they’ve been actually kind kind of feisty outside those games I don’t know whatever we don’t think to do the Pistons stuff that much but we’ll see what happens Friday night um if you are interested in

Effect ding ding um so the record versus top 10 teams that’s what we’re going to explore here they’re three and 18 with a minus 7.3 Point differential it’s that also obviously includes last night’s loss to the Denver Nuggets um the heat what was it last

Year was better last year in front of me I I think it last year but um the you look at the schedule coming up and other like teams that are included in top 10 in point differential just mentioned the the the the immediate schedule two games against the Cavs and one against the

Pelicans like those three teams are all in the top 10 in point differential and the Heat have been losing those games for the most part this season so we can get out of here if you split the the season if you split the weekend Series in Detroit and then you drop those three

Games that’s four losses man like and that’s with a back-to-back in Philadelphia it sandwiched in the middle of it so so that record versus top 10 teams is not great that point differential I mentioned minus 7.3 is almost worse to me as a marker because like we’re not even talking about close

Games anymore if you’re losing by more than seven points per 100 possessions like these are just games that the heat are not competitive in and it’s actually been worse over the last two weeks it’s actually been M like like worse than eight points uh in terms of differential so that’s record uh next

Category uh let’s go with bam what do we say all right so here’s an interesting one so bam anab bio’s true shooting percentage this year is 56.2% it’s not great that’s not great I according to stat news the average Center in the NBA the average Center’s true shooting percentage is

61.3% bam is significantly lower than that bam is an inefficient offensive player and I I don’t think that that should be surprising based that on the fact that his shot diet is mostly range shots but they got to figure out a way to up that true shooting percentage

Because if you’re going to be relying on bam atab bio this much then he has to be a more efficient player I don’t think that there’s any doubt about that if he’s going to be one of your two or three most important offensive scorers just to scores which he is he needs to

Be a lot more efficient because right now he is below average in terms of true shooting percentage just against the average Center in the NBA I know this is kind of opening up the convers about oh well he’s not really a center anyway like I I I imagine like 90% of our listenership
