Gil’s Arena Debates If Jaylen Brown Could Carry His Own Team

Gil’s Arena Debates If Jaylen Brown Could Carry His Own Team

All right let’s talk about Jaylen Brown last summer Jaylen Brown signed the richest contract in NBA history 5e $34 million deal with the Celtics it’ll likely get surpass him he was at the right place right time uh so it’s not bad for a guy who isn’t even the number

One option on his team with that distinction belonging to Jason Tatum so recently Brown liked a tweet that raised some eyebrows so wait wait for it I would just read it for you in the meantime in between time so tweet said if Jaylen Brown was the

Number one on the te team he would average over 30 points per game and be in the MVP conversation so Jaylen Brown would average 30 points per game and be in the MVP race if he was the number one option on the team cap facts or cap which part

Of it both it’s a two-part him averaging 30 MVP if he average 30 average a 30 and being in the MVP race if he was the number one option on the team T was a number one option he ain’t even really so think this person saying if he was on a different

Team or this team and was the number one option so if he was on this team and Tatum was gone they wouldn’t be in first place right they probably wouldn’t even make but would he be in the MVP race in last place sure did you say first to last I’m just

Saying if he’s the number two option and they’re in first place and the number one option who’s averaging about 2829 if he ain’t really an MVB candidate what makes him think that he would be one what listen I think he just liked it because it was a compliment yeah me too [ __ ]

Right now tell me yeah g you average 40 in today’s League like he said like nah dog you wrong [ __ ] out of here but what is it like 48 what was it supposed to what was he supposed to do [ __ ] out of here [ __ ] out of

Here I wouldn’t be [ __ ] if I was the number one I what you trying to say dog oh ladies and gentlemen is G presenting my$ fantasy down lebrown count averaging 23 points per game this season Tatum’s averaging 27 just for that out there but Brandon if Jaylen Brown Jaylen Brown would

Average 30 points per gameing be in the MVP race if he was a number one option facts or cap cap big cap yeah big cap like Gil size yeah okay yeah big yeah yeah just like that leprechaun that come out there on that Court some Lucky Charms can you C oh

Well not a particularly difficult subject but when it comes to jayen Brown averaging a 30 piece and being an MVP candidate if he was the number one option stop the C what happens I mean can he be an effective number one option like if the ball just went

Through him without any other star so he gets all the double teams everything is just there’s no Tatum on the floor he turned the ball over too much turn the he turn the ball over too much right now as being the number two option like it just the wrong times this

Is it’s so hard to like like to to see him as a number one option cuz he’s never played as the number one option right so um if everything was focused on him like you are the the dude that gets the double teams The Scouting

Report is on you now you have to create offense passing for everybody like you know that’s that’s that’s what people don’t realize people just look at the person in the number two option and say all right he’s averaging number 23 as the number two option if the

Number one option was gone he can boom boom boom no that’s not at work every because the number one option is taking all the Heat and all the responsibility the number two option number three option they don’t have no responsibility just make open shots and create offense when everyone’s you know paying

Attention to me so if the offense was just sorely on you and you have to take on those double teams and triple teams and you know that’s a different that’s a different thing and not even that your his workload is going to be different yeah to be the number option that means

You got to work 10 times harder like and I don’t even know if you even working it like working 10 times harder now that’s like to be the like you know what I’m saying be the number option bro you’re you you’re working 10 times shape your shape is different people people just

Think that you can just turn into number one options and not realize that next step is very different than the number two option you have to mentally be prepared you physically have to be prepared right you have to really like understand like triple teams double teams um you you know taking trying to

Take you out of the offense getting somebody involved dealing with this person dealing with that person I ain’t touched the ball number two now complaining I ain’t touched the ball right right you know when Tatum has the ball jayen Brown was sitting there like this when Jaylen has the brown Tatum is

Resting right that’s two different things now you switch it and he s like yo come on get a ball up you done shot three four times in a row that’s a whole different mentality and my thing is like when they they’re they’re still young and they got

Time and they’re going to you know keep going just don’t turn into that Scotty ping mic [ __ ] yeah like you know what I’m saying like don’t let the media yeah like don’t don’t don’t get into that cuz both of y’all got a chance to really do some special things up there in Boston

And you know you don’t want to look back in years and be like oh [ __ ] like damn we [ __ ] this off because I felt like I was supposed to be the number one option or you was getting too much press it’s like like figure it out now why yall got

The chance because y’all been to the finals what last what two years ago and you know they’ve been making a run to the Eastern Conference Finals so it’s like yo it’s time for you got to get over the hump so so what was that adjustment like for you though becoming

A number one option in that was always number one option the G say words you’re the number one option yeah I was just on the bench I just didn’t get in the game yet but you always had that number one op that’s the number one number one option

Mentality I was I was just didn’t get in the game I was number you know at this point I was just number 15 Wai for my turn I know and then eventually I had to weave myself but just that’s how you have to I mean I’m just going to be you

If you don’t think like that man the number one or two option is not going to allow you in there right if you don’t have the confidence in yourself why are they going to have the confidence in you the stars in the NBA is not sitting there talking about hey man we believe

In you just keep doing this if they doing that to you they really don’t [ __ ] with you like that right it’s like yo come on man hey come on get your [ __ ] together M right that’s that that’s what you want to hear as get [ __ ] together man we ain’t got

Time for this [ __ ] right that means they respect you enough to know that when you [ __ ] up they going to say something to you so that something that’s inherent in dudes like you always had that going from college even College I know you talk about you were kind of

The last dude on the total Po in terms of recruiting but came in and said I’m taking everybody’s spot we had a very spirited discussion in the group chat man confidence is built through work ethic right when you’re sitting there working and working and working and working you’re seeing the Game Change

You’re seeing the results right you know how much time you you can’t trick the results like you can work you can work out you know a th000 hours a day you’re going to see results if you say you worked out $1,000,000 hours a day and you don’t have the results you’re not

Going to have the confidence in yourself but you know your confidence gives you that that mindset right when you when you when you look at someone like a a Kanye or a Jay-Z or or uh a Chris Brown those type of guys they know how much

Time they spend in the studio they know what they’re doing so when they speak in certain tones it’s because the work they put in right when you you can hear somebody who second get right right clothesline them and I’m like all right what you about to do oh nothing what was

His first thing oh the NBA soft because in his mind this is probably one of the toughest dudes that the NBA had at the time so he closed line him and he didn’t get up his mind is like oh they soft so now everybody from moving forward they

Off I’m going just bully through everybody now so basically you have to have that mentality Brandon what was your mentality like coming in your rookie season playing overseas you feel like you had that that mindset I had a lot to prove because I didn’t play the whole

Year and I made a decision where you know I knew that you know if this if if if I would have left overseas then you know I would have looked as a failure so I was already put on a pedestal of you know Jay Bullis and everybody body

Doubting me and telling me that this wasn’t work so coming in I was I was on fire I was hostile I just wanted a chance to play yeah just to be able to show and then getting with Scott Skyles was the best thing for me a point guard

And you know just went in there and did my thing I then can you how about yourself mentality number one overall pick obviously a lot of expectation but did you come in like I’m the guy yeah just going to hoop man like ain’t no pressure when like yeah like Gil said

Man like when you know the work that you excuse me when you the work that you didn’t put in everything else is easy like going out that [ __ ] daily working your ass out busting your ass and to exhaustion MH like like if you ain’t damn near making

Yourself throw up and [ __ ] and work out like you a like you ain’t working man like so if you ain’t did that and know what it is to to be counted on in that regard yeah cuz that’s what it is man just being able to be counted on in

Certain situations showing up doing your job man so yeah know it’s yeah if you put the time in man like I said the results come is that something you always had in you you feel even as growing up no I developed it man when I got to college like I was like I

I I didn’t have the skill trainers and none of that [ __ ] I just went out and hoop then when I got to college I developed that and knowing what it was to work like what it was to put the time in the Wai room on the floor and I saw

The results each year of me getting better right like people ask me like what was the difference between my Junior and Senior year I didn’t miss a day I might have took a day off a week maybe maybe a Saturday but I maybe probably just one day a week I took maybe Sunday

Off um cuz what was said to me before my senor like the people wanted to see more from me offensively all right so that hold something I don’t think I probably didn’t dunk the basketball one time on the hook jump shot just not just jump shot I already had jump I already

Had the jump hook my like that was like that was perfected sophomore year junior year like that was hugs like diligently like this what you need to get like so I’m working on that counter off of that up in HS and [ __ ] like that mhm but then

That summer I just [ __ ] I didn’t touch the rim I didn’t I don’t I shot the ball in the paint MH like it was all elbow to elbows and threes and turn around jumpers like that’s face up glad like that’s all I did like day in day

Out so by the time my rookie year came around I had the confidence that I could play with anybody so we asked to chat with Jaylen Brown average 30 points per game is a number one option uh 40% said fact 60% said cap over 2,000 voters cap I mean

Well well well see you changed it I didn’t change anything Gil I’m mely I’m merely a vessel no no no you changed you said if he was the number one option would he average 30 that’s facts he can average 30 as a number one you said and

Win MVP yeah that’s what the tweet that he lik said but you what did you just say right now what did you put as I didn’t put anything good you can see hosting J Brown would average 30 as a number one option that’s it that’s a fact yeah yeah no that’s fact that’s

Fact that’s a fact you said and win MVP see you tricky [ __ ] man y my hands have been sitting right here on this couch as that up y tricky with the word contr contrary popular I do not make the beat on this show put don’t this supposed to be St Patrick’s

Day y’all no I’m just kidding

  1. JB would turn into Jordan Poole if he had his own team 😂.. nah but fr JB is good but not good enough to be #1 or MVP

  2. They gonna straight clown this man and say he CANT be a #1 then Brandon gonna say "dont turn into MJ Pippen" wtf 0_o. Yall just clowned this man and you think thats not gonna make him ask for a trade to prove yall wrong, that was stupid to say B, he basically saying your NOT "Him" but its ok not to be "Him", FOH nigga, Im asking for a trade if im Jaylen, im not goin out a #2

  3. This probably a dumb take but I will say it anyways. It may be easier for a 3rd option guy to be a number 1 option then a number 2 option to be number 1. I think the mentality of a 3rd option guy is more of an alpha than 2nd option guy that’s used to being Robin to someone’s Batman.

  4. Jaylen Brown averages 28ppg for his career without Tatum. In each of the last 3 seasons, I believe he averages 30 ppg when Tatum doesn't play. I don't know if he would be the MVP, but he'd be in the conversation.

  5. Did yall see the past like 3 games. Brown doing his thang… I don't know if that's cap and wish everybody find another word other cap because you're using out of context…A-town forever

  6. Every time I listen to this podcast I remember why I stopped tuning in regularly. Jaylen Brown was the Celtics 1st option in the playoffs his 2nd year in the NBA he led them to game 7 of the ECF. Jaylen Brown as the 1st option was the Celtics leading scorer in the Bucks series round 1 against Giannis and Middleton, he got hurt in game 7 and missed some time against the 76ers, then he was the 1st option against the Cavs and scored more points than everybody in that series except for Lebron. Stop disrespecting that man.

  7. i was on the fence since i know his numbers would be there, but Kenyon martin was spot on. Too many turnovers even as the number 2 option and he is awful in double teams

  8. Stop the hate. This guy has improved year over year. Give this guy his credit. How would any of you guys know what it feels to be a #1 option when none of you guys were never that?

  9. Pippen averaged 21.0 in '91-'92 with Jordan and 22.0 in '93-'94 without Jordan. Scoring doesn't necessarily go up a whole 7 points because you're the #1 option.

  10. We saw what happen to Jordan Poole 🤷‍♂️ it’s not that easy when you got your team and YOU THE MAN it’s a different attention. JB would have to get his handle and 3pt way better then that.

  11. Tatum is just as prone to turnovers as Brown is. Brown commits more because Brown is willing to take the risks in traffick that Tatum avoids when avoiding contact & settling for 3’s…!

  12. First off Jason tatum SHOULD be heavy in that MVP convo like he was last year second i wouldnt say Big Cap i mean look at SGA he a younger JB minus the JB defense so i mean….

  13. Depends what you consider in mvp talks. Is top 10 within mvp talks or not? If Stak Jack can finish top 10 in mvp one year, I’m sure JB could be around 8-10 range one year. If Julius randle could bring the Knicks to the playoffs despite him having worse handles and turnover problems I’m sure JB can do the same. No one is saying he’d be a top 5 player but he has to tools to shoulder the load for a playoff team
