IN or OUT?: Marcus Morris signs with Cleveland Cavaliers, Cavs News
Welcome to in or out a rapid fire NBA show where we discuss a handful of topics and determine where we stand I’m Tony pesta that’s Corey Walsh and please sound off in the comments with your stance on every topic we discuss there’s only one topic today and that would be
The Cleveland Cavaliers have unofficially acquired Marcus Morris senior off of the buyout Market I say un officially because so far the only source for this is Patrick Beverly so w if you are currently being held hostage somewhere please tweet something to alert us maybe put Isaac aoro and Jared
Allen on your all defensive team so we know something is up but nonetheless Morris reportedly plans on signing with the Cavs whether the Cavs plan on signing Morris is yet to be seen I guess uh Corey are you in or out on Marcus Morris I’m I’m I feel like it’s hard to
Be out especially when you kind of just look at this team it’s as well as they’ve played you would say they still don’t have like really veteran bench pieces whatsoever they have that like grit and toughness you’ve looked at the teams in the past and they’ve had Rondo
In some years they had Danny Green this year it seems like this is the their swing that they’re allegedly going to do which was like you said like PB is the only source and he’s tied with barol at this point I don’t know if any of us are
Going to take the leap of calling barstol Sports the credited credential news source whatsoever but I don’t see a reason why Pat Bev would just throw that out there for no reason would say something something more outlandish if he was going to come up with like a fake Rumor for attention
Not only is Marcus marus Mor he’s starting yeah that that something that would actually break the internet I’m not sure if people outside of Cavs fans are even aware that this news has broken yet oh no definitely not I don’t even know if Marcus Morris knows if I’m being
Honest yeah no I think it’s still though overall like there’s no risk there’s there’s going to only possibly be reward and for the people who are worried about whether or not players are going to lose minutes I feel like this is still like one of those things where they’re going
To roll with the guys they have but now they have another option in the break glass and case emergency type situation where they can throw something different or something that they assume would be the same but just another crack at it like I see people being concerned about
Dean Wade’s minutes like what does this mean for Dean down the road I would imagine Dean is going to be untouched until it comes postseason time where as well as he’s played in the regular season we don’t know if Dean’s going to be that player when the lights are as
Jared Allen said that bright because we saw last year it did not work so at least like you would think schematically at least offensively they provide the same thing they’re going to be a three-point shooting mostly offensive player except you look at Marcus morris’ stats and he has a weird Caris L vert
Syndrome of being infatuated with the mid-range and it’s not his effective shot whatsoever but I can see why JB would like throw him out and when Dean’s struggling but I don’t think he’s gonna be start playing minutes in spite of Dean kind of thing yeah I I would
Imagine Dean is safe I think the only way that this signing would be like a loss or a negative is if he just tanks their chemistry somehow but this isn’t like a Jay Crowder situation uh Marcus Morris is allegedly coming here on own accord so you’d imagine that he’s not
Coming in to just tank anything they have going on uh I don’t think he’ll like usually we sometimes we get a little we talk too much about the buyout Market when really they rarely make a difference I was looking at like the best buyout players of the last 10 years
And it’s like Jeff Green who it was impactful but you know Marco bellelli Boris Dia was like by far the best one and that’s like those are the best of the last 10 years usually it doesn’t make much of a difference so uh he does bring toughness physicality two things
That this Cavs team needed uh low volume but he is a three-point shooter he’s shooting 40% so you know he has a he’s been on numerous playoff teams in the past he’s a veteran so that’s always good I would say for this Cavs team he is kind of a plug andplay player there’s
Only 15 games left and it’ll be even fewer than that by the time he joins the roster so he won’t have much time to get initiated to begin with but you can kind of just throw him out there and I think he’ll be able to fit in and as you
Mentioned with like the break glass in case of emergency he’s kind of just I would say like a better version of this Danny Green signing we saw last year where when you get to the playoffs sometimes you never know what’s going to happen I don’t think we planned on
Playing Danny Green if it comes down to George Nang isn’t playable in a series let’s say Tristan Thompson isn’t the same version that we saw earlier in the season and maybe Dean Wade is just having a bad series maybe he’s not hitting shots maybe he’s not even taking
Shots anymore he loses his confidence I think it’s a quality insurance have someone like Morris who worst case scenario you put him out there I think it’s better than any of the other options they had yeah I guess it also depends on the context in which he’s
Brought aboard because I think if I’m remembering about the Danny Green thing if you remember after the series he was like on NBA Countdown he was complaining how he think there was a disconnect between the Cavs and him and that’s why it was such an awkward time up with the
Team because I think he was promised minutes like to ramp up but he only got minutes when we were losing in the Knick series and then it just felt like this is a really poor time to have like rehab in the middle of a game like this is
Like not an exhibition this is like kind of our life or death situation so as long as Marcus Morris because we all know that the Morris twins in general are just like hote heads by nature and I think that’s what the casts are trying to draw out of him for this team because
This team definitely you would think chemistry-wise they don’t respond well to like the fu type of guys but I think historically with especially with this young team they usually kind of love those types of players just because they’re in the minority of that locker room like this team is just known as a
Bunch of pretty level-headed calm guys and that’s why George yangang being the quote unquote emotional leader it’s a little scary at times because I don’t think of George Nang as a menacing guy I just think him as a guy who just chirps at the refs and that’s like to the
Extent that he really has an edge but as long as Morris comes into it thinking that he’s just going to try to like kind of get the guys riled up and not be like all right we’re going to probably promise you x amount of minutes in the
Postseason or even in the regular season then this shouldn’t really be a risk to the team whatsoever yeah it’s a a low risk moderate reward type of situation uh it’s not going to tip the scales one way or another I wouldn’t say but for a
Backup or I mean for a buyout signing in mid-march he he will be playoff eligible to like it’s it’s basically as good as you can do uh it’s it’s it’s everything you would expect at this point so any last comments um no just that we kind of
I think the best case overall though should be that if he’s in a series that’s a lose because it means that something didn’t go right and if we’re GNA rely on this buyout signing at some point down the road then that just shows blemishes within the roster more than it
Shows that we shouldn’t have signed Marcus Morris yeah I agree 100 per. I I think we’re both tentative tentatively in on this is there anyone with this contract would you rather of it had been anyone else like whether on the G League team or just converts someone else
Because I don’t I think this is this is it yeah I agree I know I know there was a little bit of chatter about we could have just brought ammani Bates up but I think I would rather like if you had to play someone in the playoffs I would
Rather play Morris in the playoffs still than ammani uh amman’s a promising young player I think the Cavs will give him a contract at some point maybe not in the off season but yeah I still I I just think I would rather have Morris strictly just because of the experience
Like if you are breaking glass in case emergency I would rather have it be a guy who’s been in the playoffs before and who his main goal is like hey they need some toughness they need some energy rather than a guy who amanii baat I mean he’s barely even played in the
NBA this season at all let alone hey go here’s a first round playoff series for you buddy like that just wouldn’t feel fair to ammani either so yeah because I think people will argue like oh the volume shooting bait Springs could be like really could swing the tides in the
Playoff series but I think it’s the case like people sometimes argue for Merl where it’s like no matter how much volume shooting he brings you know in a playoff series he’s going to be the one that gets targeted in the defenses other the opposing offenses sets so I don’t
Think Morris would draw the same level of attention just because of his track record in the past not that he matches that now but it’s just one of those things that I think players think of all the time mentally definitely and I think Morris is still as I mentioned more plug-and
Playay than ammani like moris he he has a great understanding of what his role is in the NBA he’s always managed to do that with every playoff team he’s been with he knows his role and he’s pretty decent at it throughout his career so and whereas ammani is still someone
Who’s searching for that so I think I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out basically that’s going to do it for this episode of in out thanks everyone for watching please sound off in the comments and let us know if you are in out on Marcus Morris and with all that
Being said go Cavs hi Brian

Cavs could use his tenacity and experience for a playoff run. In!
Don't the Cavs have like 3 roster spots open? Either way, the Cavs need to fill out the bench
