At the end of this game, I was reading a thread from yesterday where people are still talking about how Ant has to go because “he isn’t on Scoot’s timeline” and I’m starting to think I’m taking crazy pills. This wasn’t even Scoot’s worst game and I just can’t think of one thing he did that any of our guards couldn’t have done. Even the nice blow-by he had was ridiculous because *why can’t he use his left hand*. It’s almost comical that he shot that layup with his right, it makes no sense whatsoever. The eye test looked like we lost the game in the minutes he was on the floor and, as it happens, he did indeed have the worst +/- on the team at -24. Sure, that’s only one game, but post-ASB, these are his stats:
**38/16/89 shooting with a league-worst plus/minus of -12**
Not only is his shooting absolutely atrocious (league-worst FG% for players with over 7 attempts per game) but the +/- makes it seem like he isn’t positively impacting the game anywhere else either.
He’s not a bust yet. But I will die on this hill: it is WAY too early to talk about “Scoot’s timeline”. The Blazers should be on Ant’s and Ayton’s timeline until either Scoot or Sharpe show any concrete proof that they should be focus of the franchise, and we are a very long way from that right now.
