How Worried Should We Be About the Philadelphia 76ers?

When the Philadelphia 76ers spent years tanking losing year after year setting records for some of the lowest win totals in a season they received a lot of criticism from both the fans and the media but the response from the front office was always to trust the process

Trust the process of losing badly now to build a contender for the future and while it was painful to watch those Sixers teams between 2013 and 2017 the process slowly but surely started to come to fruition in landing top lottery picks with Star level potential and

While most of the those top picks didn’t pan out the way they thought they would like Ben Simmons and Marquel fultz losing all of those years did enable them to land one of the greatest big men of this generation a superstar and MVP in Joel embiid and while the Sixers for

The better part of the last six seasons have been contenders or at least finishing near the top Eastern Conference the fruits of their labor and tanking all of those years have netted them not even a Conference Finals appearance they’ve come very close as we all remember the famous buzzer beater

Shot from Kawhi Leonard in game seven but still to this day despite even finishing with the best record in the east at times they have never made it beyond the second round of the playoffs and while we’re now nearly a decade remove from the point in which

Embiid was drafted for the Sixers and their fans you have to start wondering if the process has failed because as embiid now enters his 30s currently out with a miniscus tear and the Sixers Free Falling in the standings you have to be asking how worried should we be about

This team as always if you’re new to the channel and you like this type of content then be sure to subscribe to help the channel grow and in return I’ll be providing more more NBA content like this now the Sixers are hopeful that Joel embiid will be returning at some

Point this season they haven’t set a definitive timeline for an expected return date but the franchise has continued to state that the plan is to have him return at some point whether it be in the final weeks of the Season or in the playoffs but that they won’t be

Rushing him back and they’ll wait until he’s fully ready to go and while we all knew that after embiid went down with the injury the Sixers were not going to be the same team and would likely Fall a bit in the standings the Sixers have been much much worse than what most of

Us would have predicted without embiid don’t get me wrong losing embiid who was having an MVP caliber season and likely would have won the MVP award again had he not gotten injured losing your Superstar player a top three player in the NBA is obviously critical to your

Team success but to me I still viewed the Sixers as a strong and capable team even without Joel embiid to where they could have held down the fort while he was out and at least maintained a top five or six seed in the East and part of

The reason I felt this way was because Tyrese Maxi was really coming into his own I made a video on Maxi shortly after his 51o performance after embiid went down and the Sixers got the win over the Utah Jazz stating that this kid is the future a future that they can start

Building around post Joel em B and with a budding star in Maxi I still consider the Sixers to be a top team in the Eastern Conference and then after making some great moves at the trade deadline picking up buddy Hill to add some shooting to the roster they picked up

Veteran Kyle Lowry off the buyout market like despite the loss of their Superstar I thought they would be all right I thought they would be all right until embiid came back and they would be good to go for the playoffs but the Sixers have been surprisingly bad since embiid

Went down with that injury case in point the Sixers over the past 24 games in which embiid has been out of the lineup they have gone 8 and 16 in that stretch some of those losses being to bad teams they’ve boasted an offensive rating that ranks 21st in the league in that time

Frame a defensive rating second to last in the NBA and 26 net rating in 24 games you’re talking about numbers that rival those of teams like the Hornets pistons and wizards during that span going from being top 10 in the league in both offense and defense to the bottom 10 in

The NBA they are 29th in the league in effective field goal percentage they’re one of the worst passing teams in the NBA at 29th as well and playing with some of the slowest Pace in possessions generated per game they’re also second to last in true shooting percentage and

Dead last in the NBA and three-point percentage again all since embiid has been out the three-point shooting has been particularly surprising because it’s not like embiid was jacking up a bunch of threes and helping their overall three-point rate now obviously because embiid commands so much attention from the defense it’s going to

Be more open looks for guys on the perimeter that are no longer there but even still being last in the league in three-point shooting over the last 24 games is pretty telling on top of all of this the Sixers are bottom five in rebounds per game they give up a ton of

Second Chance points to their opponent and they have a negative net 12 net rating in clutch games which is bottom five in the NBA when they were top 10 in the league in net rating clutch situations under jelm B again don’t get me wrong not having your Superstar is a

Huge loss but it should not be this bad when you break it down by the numbers but here’s the the bigger issue given the Philadelphia 76ers have one of the hardest schedules to close out the season while some of their opponents are jocking for position in the Eastern

Conference standings there is now a world where the Sixers could conceivably miss the playoffs currently at the time of this recording the Sixers to eighth in the east standings tied with the heat for that spot and they have a 4 and a half game advantage over the Bulls who

Sit ninth while I don’t think they’ll be bad enough to the point where they’ll actually have the Bulls pass them in the standings even though I would love to see that happen as a bulls fan but because the Bulls are playing better basketball as of late and the Sixers are

Not there is a possibility where you see these two teams facing off in the second game of the play and even though I’m a bias Bulls fan I actually don’t see the Sixers winning that game despite having homecourt Advantage now obviously if embi comes back that’s a different story

I would take the Sixers easily but I also wouldn’t be surprised if mbid in the coming weeks they decide to rule him out for the season because at this point even if the Sixers make the playoffs they’re going to go up against the Boston Celtics they’re not winning a

Seven game series against Boston even with Joel embiid and so the Sixers have to ask themselves is it worth trying to get MBI back for a first round exit is it worth potentially bringing him back prematurely when they know this isn’t going to be their year to win a title

Rest your Superstar as much as you possibly can have him come back fully healthy next season beefing up your roster and make that title push next year because the Sixers also know their window to win with embiid is closing he just turned 30 he’ll be turning 31 going

Into next season you’re only going to have a few more cracks at this before it’s time to start fresh and if this year isn’t it if the team isn’t truly in a position to win by the time Joel embiid is nearly ready to play then just

Shut him down for the season the problem with that though is at what point does embiid say enough is enough I don’t see myself winning here I want out and he requests a trade he publicly stated this past off season that he wants to win a championship and whether that’s in

Philly or somewhere else he doesn’t know but he’s going to put himself in the best chance to win embiid seeing how this team has been performing without him could be a huge eye opener for him that hey this team simply put is not good enough I don’t have the proper

Pieces and T around me to win and compete for a title my team should not be this bad without me we’ve been trying to get this right for years didn’t work out with Ben didn’t work out with James Harden we paid Tobias Harris over Jimmy Butler I need to start looking to see

What else is out there because this is not it now the good news for the Sixers is they have a ton of cap flexibility going into the offseason with everyone but embiid on expiring contracts and a partial guarantee to Paul Reed going into next season they’re obviously going

To need to pay Maxi but outside of that they do have an opportunity to sign bigname free agents although this is a relatively weak free agency class and they have some draft Capital to work with in making a bigger trade but the bigger Point here is the worst thing

That could have happened to the Sixers is to have this team play so poorly without embiid and having embiid see this and realize the lack of support he has on this roster and for the Sixers whether they make the playoffs or not or get bounced in the first round by either

The Celtics or the Bucks they have to get this off season right they have to hit on the proper free agents trades getting players on bargain deals all of that because it could very well be the last time the last chance that they have to win a title before embiid finally

Loses his patience and looks to go elsewhere where would that be and what would a trade look like I have no idea all I know is he can’t be looking at this team right now and be happy with the way that they’re showing up without

Him I would love to hear what you guys think though let me know if you think Joell em be could be on his way out of Philadelphia let me know in the comments as always be sure to subscribe and I’ll see you in the next one

  1. They are a cursed franchise. Only hope is maxey or maybe Embiid can make a miraculous return which is nearly impossible for someone that big. Poorly run franchise like the bulls

  2. Am I outta pocket to say I wasnt worried about them even when Embiid was cooking? He's a regular season player healthy or not he shrinks in the playoffs we've seen it too many times
