It was a fun Monday of wa scoreboard watching for the Orlando Magic as they’re on the doorstep to the playoffs it’s time to talk the road ahead for us and for everybody else what the magic can do it’s a standing check on today’s episode of lockon magic you are locked

Standings heavy we’re going to go schedule heavy we’re going to talk about the road ahead and as always before we talk about any of this stuff I do think we have to start with this important statement the magic very much control their own destiny as much fun as it was

Monday night to watch all the games and there were some big ones Cleveland played Indiana Philadelphia played Miami and then New York was out west playing Golden State as important and as much fun as watching other teams play was at the end of the day the magic control

Their own destiny uh standings wise yes they are a half game behind the Knicks the Knicks do have a game in hand so The Magik are one game behind in the Lost column they both have 40 wins uh the Knicks will play an extra game somewhere uh the rest of the way um

Actually no they won’t they my standings have not updated themselves yet the nickar game ahead of the magic with 41 wins so in that sense the magic do not control their own destiny they need New York to lose one more game but I still would say in essence if Orlando takes

Care of their business if they win their games they they do what they’re supposed to do they’re eight- two in their last 10 games if the Magic win the games that they’re supposed to win and put themselves in that in that position none of this stuff matters none of what we’re

Going to talk about for the majority of this episode is going to matter if the magic just take care of their business so any place you have to start starts with the magic everything starts with the magic and the Magic schedule still sets up really really well now I will grant you

We’ve been living in a fantasy land ever since the All-Star break ended the magic have have played a relatively easy schedule we knew even before the season began that the magic were set up to have a strong push at the end of the season I remember sitting here in August saying

Get me to the all-star break and the magic will take off from there the magic play nine of their final 14 games at home seven of those come next during this eight game homee the magic officially do now have the 15th hardest schedule in the league of 492

Win percentage and a lot of that starts Thursday I don’t want to overlook Charlotte magic play the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday magic have done really really well against these teams under 500 but we want to know about this magic team and what’s going to frankly differentiate whether they play in that

Four five game whether they can compete for homecourt Advantage whether they get the four seed because New York plays Denver on Thursday so that’s you know New York’s New York’s had a very successful road trip not going to take anything away from them play they play Denver on Thursday to close the road

Trip out there’s an opportunity there to make up that game that the magic need to tie the Knicks and control their own destiny but the Magic’s road is not easy anymore we’ve talked about this home stand they play Charlotte tonight Tuesday night they’ll play New Orleans

On Thursday as the start of four games against Western Conference postseason teams they play New Orleans on Thursday Sacramento on Saturday Golden State next Wednesday and then Clos this stretch out against the Clippers on uh on next Friday one week from Friday they Clos out the home stand

Stand with Memphis on a back-to-back Saturday home home back toback magic of one two of two of uh two of their four wins when with zero days rest on the second night of back Tob backs have come on home home back Tob backs and then they close the home stand next I believe

Next Monday again or April 2nd or 1 April 1 I believe against the Portland Trailblazers the magic will play five of their final seven games on the road and while there are no you know there are some Elite teams there at toward the end but five of seven on the road’s tough

New Orleans at Charlotte they come home to play Chicago uh then they go at Houston at Milwaukee on a back toback I’ll talk a little bit why that Milwaukee game now suddenly feels very very big we’ll get to that in a minute uh or a little later on the show uh at

Milwaukee and then at Philadelphia April 12th probably the biggest game left on the schedule considering the Sixers will probably have Joel em beid back in the lineup by then the magic cold I believe now it’s a two game Le let me just let me get my standings out here um the

Magic hold a two game lead over the 76ers so that game could be monumentally big and then the magic closed their season out April 14th at the Kia Center against the Milwaukee Bucks this path it’s not it’s manageable it’s very doable the magic don’t you know the

Bucks are the only elite team left on the schedule and the Bucks are shaky in some areas in some ways not they have the Warriors still of course but the Warriors are not you know your father’s Golden State Warriors anymore um they have a Challen chenging road ahead the

Easy part of the schedule’s done after Tuesday against Charlotte no offense Charlotte who’s playing a lot better by the way I will continue to say that they played them tough a couple weeks ago in Charlotte um after Tuesday the Magic schedule is no longer easy I don’t think we could

Classify the schedule as easy anymore the magic did the job they feasted on the easy part of their schedule they’ve gone 10 and three since the All-Star break two of those losses obviously to to the Pacers and nicks they feel very big because outside of the Cleveland

Game coming out of the All-Star break that was the only those were the only games against playoff caliber opponents that the magic have had so there’s a lot for this magic team to prove and they’re gonna have the chance to prove it you know I I I’ve been

Telling people like let’s get to the end of the home stand and then we’ll really know where this team is at because their finish is not easy they got to build some momentum they got to build some cushion and we’ll explain why that’s going to be important when we talk about

What the other teams have to face here in just a moment but the magic control their own destiny that that is that is the ultimate thing um yes New York has a one game lead on Orlando and a game in hand uh so I’m not going to sit here and say

That they can completely control their own destiny but to make the playoffs to avoid the playin to even compete for the four seed it’s all on the magic to take care of their business it’s all on the magic to win these games build some momentum build some wins and guess what

Like guys we are at this point where the magic should be expected to win these games where the magic should be expected to compete I I expect them to go two and two to at least at minimum split these four games they’ve got coming up starting Thursday I expect them to

Defend the home court they’ve done a great job of that so far this season they’re 22 and they’re 22 and or 23 and8 on the Kia Center floor let me make sure I have that right I don’t want to want to lead you away here yeah they the 23

And8 one loss in Mexico City 23 and8 on on the Kia Center floor they take care of their business at home and that’s what this home standand has to be about I think a lot of us said they had to go six and two at five and

Three at minimum if they can somehow go seven and one there’s gonna be a loss somewhere it happens it’s the NBA um but if they can dominate this home stand four and four on this home stand is unacceptable if they go four and four on this home stand the magic are going to

Be in trouble because the back half the back end of this schedule the back end of these 14 remaining games is tough and it’s not just the it’s not necessarily the opponents it’s the road trip there’s the Houston Milwaukee back toback at the end of the season um it’s

Tough that Philadelphia game you don’t want a Philadelphia game in the regular season that has a ton of meaning with Joel MB back the the only time you want to face Philadelphia when there’s meaning is the playoffs and that’s not a knock on Philadelphia that’s just because every game in the playoffs has

Me I the Sixers are a team that SC should scare you a little bit uh if if and when embiid comes back because embiid is an MVP player and the old saying goes if you have the best player on the floor you have the best chance to

Win embiid is the best play and beid when he’s healthy is maybe the best player in the league so the magic control their own Destiny and they got to take care of their business at home like they have all year long to put themselves in the

Best position because we got to talk now about everyone else’s schedule because the magic do control their own destiny but what happens if they slip what opportunities are out there we’re going to talk about what the Knicks piecers heat and Sixers have on the horizon coming up here in just a moment

Schedule and while the mag you know the magic do the magic are pretty much done with the easy teams you know no more Toronto no more Detroits they get their last look at Charlotte on on Tuesday um they got Portland they got Portland still um but cupcake season’s over uh

The magic dominated the soft part of their schedule as they needed to do and now comes the challenge now comes the ability can you step up and play some of these playoff teams the question then is well what if the magic falure a little bit what if they aren’t as hot as they

Have been during the soft part of the schedule what does that mean for the the other teams in the league so let’s start with the New York Knicks because they’re obviously the team that’s closest to the magic they’re half game ahead they’re a a full game ahead of the magic now in

The standings um fighting for fourth they have about the same kind of schedule as the magic have but flip it they got six home games eight Road games the rest of the season they’re currently they’re currently on a four game West Coast Road Trip they’ve won three of

Those four games they close out at Denver they still have a four game Road Trip coming up at Chicago at Milwaukee and then back to Chicago go figure and then at Boston they still got three games against the Bulls left and the Bulls you know are going to have their playin spot secured

It looks like um but that those games could still matter for the Bulls so so the the the Knicks might the Knicks will be playing I think competition that’s going to go to the end of the season but when you look at the Knicks schedule obviously Denver’s the big one on

Thursday after that not a lot you know the only the only Elite there’s only three Elite teams left on their schedule Oklahoma City March 31st at the Garden at Milwaukee on April 7th and then at Boston on April 11th but who knows if Boston’s going to be playing anybody uh

For that final Road game for the Knicks New York in essence I think has a pretty manageable schedule though um there’re not there there are not a lot of games there that they’re going to drop they have some major opponents that they might lose to but they still got a game

Against Detroit that’s coming March 25th one week from uh that’s coming up Monday they’re at San Antonio on the 29th um they they got two more games against Brooklyn um this is a Knicks team that is coming out of probably one of the trickier parts of the schedule now I

Will grant this they have a stretch here coming up after they get back from the road they have two games at home starting March 27th they play seven of nine games on the road just like the magic have five of seven on the road to close the season the Knicks have seven

Of nine on the road and then they close the season out with the Nets and Bulls at the at Madison Square Square Garden so it it for the Knicks it’s it’s manageable for them uh but there are Road games and New York’s been really tough on the road I mean I think this

West Coast Road Trip is proving how tough that team is on the road ogan anobi didn’t play on Monday they dominated the Warriors like plent and simple Steph Curry was cold but they they outworked out hustled outmanned that that Golden State team it was a really impressive win for them I I would

Say the Knicks are probably going to finish fourth um I I do think that I I I think the magic could be in that race but the way Orlando’s schedule sets up you know they they’ve got to be tied maybe ahead of New York by the time this

Road trip by the time this homeand ends um because it’s not that I don’t trust the magic on the road but their Road home is is much more difficult than New York’s now both of these teams are going to be on the road virtually at the same

Time um by the time we get to that five and seven stretch uh the Knicks will have five of their next six on the road starting April 2nd so the the Knicks are in Miami on April 2nd the magic will be in New Orleans on April 3 um so they

Their schedules are kind of off kilter which is nice because we get to watch each other play but um New York I think has a has a fairly favorable schedule I mean again their toughest that one of their tougher games is coming up Thursday they’re gonna have some pretty

Clear you know not clear sailing they got some tough games but Oklahoma City Miami Sacramento Milwaukee Boston those are their tough games um everything else are the kind of teams that the magic have been feasting on here for a little while so I I think that the Knicks

Definitely do still have the inside track for four what about the teams putting downward pressure on Orlando so Orlando as it stands at the moment has a two game lead over the Philadelphia 76ers um Sixers are 38 and 30 they’re two games up on Philadelphia two and a

Half up on Indiana three up on Miami that’s that’s all that’s all really good news for uh Orlando Indiana there or Philadelphia their schedule is actually U their schedule comes out as one as in the top half but about median of the league their schedule is tough because they still

Have nine more Road games the Philadelphia 76ers are hoping that Joel embiid is back in um in early April it sounds like so it bet on Jo Joel embiid playing that game against the magic toward the end of the season that game now looks monumentally big for both

Teams uh just just going to put that out there the Sixers have gone nine and 13 since emb’s injury that is why they’ve sunk down the standings and they’ve had a lot of rough stretches but Philadelphia starts a 4 game s-day West Coast Road Trip Wednesday in Phoenix so

They play they play Phoenix they play the Los Angeles double so they play the Lakers and the Clippers uh and then and they actually still have both of their games left against the Clippers uh they play March 27th at home uh when they get back from the West Coast rers so two

Very quick quick succession games and then they actually go they they don’t get two games at home they come home from that West Coast Road Trip hit the road again you know play that Clippers at home and then hit the road again to play the Cavaliers so how serious

Philadelphia is to contest the magic um again they’re two games back they are gonna go They’re gonna go through the toughest remaining part of their schedule right here for the next two weeks life is going to be really really ugly for Philadelphia and again they’re hoping that they could hold the ship

Steady for when Joel embiid gets back um which again should happen in which could happen in early April after this stretch ends the Sixers do have an easier stretch closing the season including the game against Orlando um they get three straight games at home to close the season but Philadelphia’s Road the SK

The the the records may not suggest it because there may not be the Super Elite teams you know Clippers are probably the best team that they’re facing the rest of the way uh but it’s Road heavy we’re going to know where Philadelphia stands here after this road trip end after this

Big road trip uh stretch ends uh in March on March 29th the Indiana Pacers who the magic have a two and a half game lead over as well also have a very difficult schedule uh by record it is the 12th easiest in the league but Indiana has eight Road games remaining

Five eight of their 13 remaining games are on the road um and look Indiana is not a team that can take quote unquote easy games for granted they’re only 18 and 12 against teams with records worse than 500 only the 10 seed Atlanta Hawks have a worst record um among the post

Eastern Conference postseason teams against teams with losing records I was talking to Tony East about this of locked on Pacers when when he uh visited visited the Kia Center uh for the magic Pacers game and he says like yeah we can’t beat bad teams it’s really really

Weird the Pacers have to take care of their business and they will have chances to do do so they still get the Detroit Pistons they get two games against the Brooklyn Nets they have a game against the Toronto Raptors still on the schedule but they’re about to

Take one of the weirdest road trips I think I’ve ever seen okay listen to this road trip this is an NC Tournament Road Trip uh the NC tournament moving into G gbridge Fieldhouse here um in the next uh in the ne starting tomorrow starting Tuesday um they start the road trip

Wednesday in Detroit okay fairly easy road trip then they go west to take on the Golden State Warriors the Los Angeles Lakers and the LA Clippers so you get the LA double that’s that’s nice and then they come back East to face the Chicago Bulls on March

27th that is a weird road trip uh and and you know the magic do this sometimes where they’ll go out west and then make a pit stop in like Minnesota or San Antonio or you know uh mid uh in sometimes Indiana uh where they do that

That one last that one pit stop after a West Coast Road Trip those games are always hard so March 27th against Chicago that is a game to Circle as one where the travel bug might get Indiana and might might cost them that is a bad

Bad trip um I look at that and look IND a lot of the rest of Indiana’s schedule might be more manageable they still have the Oklahoma City Thunder on their schedule and they still have the Miami Heat as well um I look at that schedule and I am not as concerned about Indiana

Catching Orlando again Orlando has a two and a half game lead on the Indiana Pacers uh for uh their spot in the playoffs I’m more concerned about Philadelphia but like I said the magic got their home stand continuing April 1st we’ll probably do this again on

April 1 I think April 1 will be the good day to to kind of reset where they are because Philadelphia’s gonna have gonna be done with their big road stretch Indiana’s G be done with their big road stretch Orlando will be getting set to do their big road stretch Orlando needs

To run up the score for you know for G to talk talk like talk about it this way if we’re going to Steve coraki this got to run up the totals here we got to run up the totals on Philadelphia in Indiana during this home stretch because the

Schedule always comes back around so Indiana and Philadelphia going to get a lot more home games closer to the end of the season Orlando’s got all their home games now that’s why Orlando has to put some distance between themselves and Philadelphia right now however there is one team that I am

Philadelphia catch in Orlando uh again magic got a nice healthy two- game lead I’m a little bit worried about Philadelphia just because Joel embiid is such a wild card I’m not super worried about Indiana um I’m not gonna say I’m not worried about them again magic take care of

Their business who cares what these other teams do um but I’m not worried about Indiana I think Indiana’s road is is you know the SK by opponent win percentage it’s not super tough but just the amount of road games that they have the weird Road games that they have the

Big games that they still have left on their schedule Indiana’s got a really tough path forward here to end the season and look I’m not sitting here saying Orlando has got an easy path either but if Orlando takes care of their business at home none of that’s

Gon to matter Orlando Orlando will be fine and you know they’ll be able to manage those final seven games again they still got a Charlotte game in there they got two games against Charlotte left which is huge um they still got a Charlotte G in there they got uh you

Know they got they got they got houst I mean Houston’s tough at home but so I don’t want to I don’t want to throw throw that throw that out but Orlando I think can manage this end of the schedule and put them and and and create

Some space in separation uh to to assure that they will be at least six if not five for sure I really if you’re asking me like before we get to the next phase of this conversation I think we will be PL I I am already starting to look into

Hotel rooms and and look planning and talking to people and planning to head to New York for game one um if if you’re asking me for a prediction today here on March 19th 2024 at 1:23 in the morning as I’m recording this I do think it will

Be New York Orlando in the first round of the playoffs we’ll be heading up to New York we’ll be shipping up to New York and and going to the Garden to for for the Magic’s first playoff series which is you know such a great introduction for Palo ban car that’s not

An NBA TV series they put the Knicks on TV we will be on TNT uh for our games in the playoffs if that is the case and that’s all that’s all we really want at the end as long as we look good um but I will admit this I

Am a little worried about Miami and some of that is that they’re the Miami Heat and you know even though the magic have a three- game lead on the heat for their spot it’s Miami I don’t doubt Miami and their schedule sets up really well the

Heat have the six c a schedule remaining in the league based on opponent win percentage they have eight games at CSM eight games at home in Miami um nine of their final 14 games in fact uh are at CSM um the heat are just 17 and 15 there

Though so not crazy you know they’re not crazy good in Miami but um look they’re gonna have a lot of home games they have a four-game home stand that features the New Orleans Pelicans the day after they face the Orlando Magic that’ll be Friday they get the Cleveland Cavaliers on

March 24th not easy the Golden State Warriors March 26 that’s the day before Golden State comes to Orlando so plan accordingly in case the Warriors aren’t going to sit anyone they need every game they can get right now for their playing tournament Chase they’re trying to at

Least get home court which may not help them uh in the 910 game Golden State’s in a big battle but Orlando will get golden state on the second night of a back-to-back which is beneficial for Orlando and then they face the Portland Trailblazers on March 29th they will

Close the season with a three-game home stand as well Dallas Mavericks April 10th and then the Toronto Raptors twice April 12th and 14th I know I know a couple Raptors friends of mine who are very much looking forward to the trip to Miami and spending a little time in

Miami again the Raptors are not playing for anything those those two games should be wins for Miami uh consider all all things considered um they still have some tough road games they Cleveland Cleveland on Wednesday on the road and then Indiana as well at gamebridge Field

House on April 7th so a lot of really big games but at the end of the day this is Miami I I think a lot of us fear Miami a lot of teams in the East kind of just fear Miami because we know they exist we know that they live for this

Time of year we know that they start to ramp things up this time of year and while they play this ugly grimy game of basketball which you know is is fine that’s that’s how they are um that can sometimes play up and down to their competition we know how dangerous they

Can be I would say the worst matchup for the you know I think I said this on the Pod that I did last week when we talked about what the magic are looking for in a playoff matchup Miami is not it we don’t want super physical teams they’re

Going to knock us out off offensively it’s one reason why I think the Knicks are not a great matchup for the magic despite the magic winning the series 31 Julius Randle might actually help Orlando in that sense uh you know I I think I think think Julius I think that

Julius Randle would help the magic if he plays in that series more than more than anything else um but the Knicks play a really physical brand he’d play a really physical brand of defensive basketball those are the game those are the teams we don’t want to R land in face so

Avoiding a seven8 showdown with Miami is a must uh remember Miami holds the season series they hold the tiebreaker with the magic um and so they can’t tie so Orlando does have a healthy three- game lead that’s a good thing you know we’re not going to sit here and be super

Worried but I do think Miami having a lot of home games frankly a lot of manageable games uh is a benefit for them and a reason to be a little bit afraid of of the teams trailing Orlando right now Miami is the one I am most

Worried about because they will go on a little bit of they could go on a little bit of a tear uh you know they have they’ve been really inconsistent this year no doubt about it but they could go on a little bit of a tear and put a lot

Of pressure on Orlando especially as all these other teams like I mentioned Indiana Philadelphia have really difficult finishes to their to their season Orlando has a very difficult finish to their season um it feels like you know again Orlando has to get has to bank their wins now because the end’s

Gonna be tough Philadelphia uh Philadelphia and Indiana they’re going to go through their tough stretch now and then they’re going to start to build some momentum toward the end of the season but I I think Miami is a team that their schedule super balanced they’re going to be putting constant

Pressure it would not surprise me if it’s Philadelphia Indiana in the 78 game Miami gets the six Orlando gets to five and if frankly we’re sweating that last game against Milwaukee in the magic need to get that game against Milwaukee to ensure that they’re in that four five

Matchup or or or something like that I will mention this though um and I think it’s worth mentioning but um guys uh Orlando is as close to Cleveland at three as they are to Miami at 8 and so something we do have to at least tangentially talk about is whether

Orlando can catch Cleveland and like with everything else I think we’re g to take going to reassess where the magic are at on April 1 I think when we get to April 1 we’re gonna take we’re gonna exhale a little bit before the Manch go out on the road and assess where they

Are in the standings I don’t think they’re catching Cleveland um you know Cleveland if you look at their schedule and I do have it up I this this will all go up in an article on Alando Magic daily Cleveland’s got the 13th easiest schedule by opponent win percentage

They’ve got two games against Miami they’ve got six home games versus eight Road games um they’ve got a five-game West Coast road trip that comes very late in the season again Cleveland’s kind of like Orlando they got to build their wins now because they go to Denver

On March 31st they get the LA double April 6th and 7th um that road trip late very very late in the season I think they go on that road trip and they have their final two or three games at home so remember when Orlando went out west the second game of the season

Cleveland’s kind of got the opposite of that so again that Orlando is not going to be able to make up ground consistently during that stretch because they’re going through their Road Road team so I don’t think Orlando is going to catch Cleveland but it is worth

Noting that Orlando is not too far from Cleveland or Milwaukee at two Milwaukee’s uh three and a half games up on Orlando they’ve got eight home games left including the two including the game against Orlando and two games against the magic so if you want to get

Technical here and Milwaukee is a really hard finish because they still got both games against the Thunder and two games against Celtics if the magic somehow sweep those two remaining games against Milwaukee April 10th and Milwaukee which they will not win because that’s a crazy backto back

Um and the finale against uh the finale in Orlando the mag just have to find two more games somewhere to make up ground and again they play Oklahoma City twice they play Boston twice the magic do the magic might be able to catch Milwaukee I don’t think they will um because the

Bucks have so many games at fiser form and the Bucks are they’re playing for champ sh they they’re not concerned what the peasants are up to um but it’s possible um the schedule does set up a little bit for them to do that but like

I said at the end of the day it’s all about right now what the magic do as much fun as it is to scoreboard watch and look at some of these other teams um it’s about what the magic do if the magic take care of their business they

Got 14 games left if they go nine and five they’re going to be fine for the five SE that they might have to go 10 and4 to catch New York to to beat New York but as long as they’re eight- six n and five they’re they’re gonna be fine

If they finish the season 500 and there’s no reason to think they won’t do that um they will they will be in the playoffs the problem is our initions are no longer the playoffs like again we’re going to celebrate hopefully tomorrow that the magic of clinch to play in spot

Goal is to be in the four five game like it would be fun to get home court advantage I’m not going to hate I’m not going to hate that but to maintain their position close the season out the right way um instead of limping into the into
