@Toronto Raptors

[Koreen] The Raptors are 23rd (in 3 point percentage) You could tell me Trent Jr will make the mid-level exception (around $13 million annually) and I’d believe it. You could tell me he will make close to double that, and I’d believe it, too.

    Other notes:

    On GTJ:

    >If he can do this with more regularity, he would be a significant plus for most teams. He is shooting 40.7 percent from 3 this year. His ideal role is probably sixth man, except his true shooting percentage is way worse coming off the bench this year (52.5 versus 57.2 as a starter; it is identical for his career, though). He is only 25, and young, shooting-starved teams such as the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Magic and Charlotte Hornets will have among the most spending power this offseason. Those teams rank 22nd, 28th, 24th and 26th in 3-point percentage this season.

    On Ochai:

    >Agbaji has hit just 10 of his 42 3-point attempts as a Raptor, and has hit about a third of his attempts as a pro. That number needs to come up for him to stick as a rotation player in the league, even if his 6-foot-10 wingspan allows him to guard up in size. Banchero figured out the Raptors and Agbaji in the second half on Sunday. However, Agbaji is showing to be worth the calculated gamble the Raptors took on him at the deadline, when they gave up a first-rounder this year.

    On Ramsey:

    >On his second 10-day contract, Jahmi’us Ramsey looks like a certified thing-doer. By which I mean, he can’t help but make a play or two every time he is on the floor. The Raptors have to sign him for the rest of the season or let him become a free agent after this contract expires, and I hope it is the former.

    Double? If another team offers him that then so be it. Gary is not the only shooter in the league…if anything it’s an easier skill to acquire if you’re going to laser in on it…even if we accept a slight dip from his replacement.

    Also doesn’t help that our drafted shooter sort of forgot how to shoot at first and also getting a >40% shooter in IQ months later.

    The number over the season is obv no good, but I’m not too concerned, even if Gary walks.

    I wouldn’t go much above MLE, maybe like $15-$17M per year, 3 years with player option on the last year

  4. Lol if we pay Gary $26/year Masai is officially cooked

    It only took him 2 consecutive contract years to be above 40% in a lost season. He’s not the guy we need. Gradey is the better player already.

    We have been reduced to discussing Gary Trents contract… an era of complete darkness has begun. Last time we were here was back in the Jalen Rose and Joey Graham days. Going to be a long ride.

    There’s a bunch of good high value 3pt shooters making less than 6 million a year. Gary may be younger but his growth has stagnated and it makes no sense to pay him double or triple of that to keep him

    26 mill for a guy with no consistent second skill is crazy. Shit, even his first skill is streaky.
